    @seahag I hope you're feeling better!

Mama Hag is one organized woman, lol.

    Will she be "wearing" Diamonique?

Nope.  Fake pearls.  No wedding ring.  She stopped wearing it as soon as the old man died.  She even prepaid the tips for the altar boys!  She's wearing the dress she wore to my wedding.  She's gained a little weight, but she said they can cut it up the back.  She also had her gold fillings removed and sold them.  She doesn't really like the funeral director, but he is convenient.  Mama Hag decided to do this when she sold her house.  She didn't want the funeral director to try the "if you loved her, you'd get X most expensive package".  She also told me to get the flowers from anyone BUT the funeral director, who convenienly has a florist shop attached to his funeral home.  She's a piece of work!

@ennui, Navigating the health care system has certainly been eye-opening for me.  That's all I will say.

As a fellow Moonstruck lover, the one quote that really sticks me with from that movie isn't "Snap out of it!" but Cosmo's "Everything is temporary!"

    So this too shall pass....

Mama Hag has DNR forms taped up to her doors (inside the house), and she has it on file at the hospital, and in her purse at all times.  She does not want to be brought back if she goes.  She has also planned out and paid for her funeral and the lunch afterwards.  She also has her outfit picked out with the fake jewelry to wear in the casket.  I have to look at it every time I go there, lol.

NO. It's not about what you want, it's about what your mother would want.

I realize that you are struggling with this, but your mother is 96. She's had a good run.

I think hospice is an excellent idea. They are wonderful people, and it is not a death sentence.

My friend's aunt flunked out of hospice-twice!  She died at age 101 last year, at home.  She was proud of the fact that she failed twice.  She had her wits about her almost right until the end.

Was not a fan of my mom's meatloaf, either.   It was very "solid."   I don't think we ever had leftovers -- too many of us at the table.   My husband said he loves meatloaf sandwiches.

I have a meatloaf recipe I took from a "healthy cooking" TV show years ago. You know, before the internets, when we had to write it down as they went along??!    It's topped with a bottle of chili sauce, kind of loose/crumbly and we like it.

My mom made a HUGE meatloaf!  There were 9 of us at the table.  They bought a half a cow at a time.

Count me in! When a new stone I had never heard of came along on the shopping channels, I would want to add it to my collection.

HSN's Jay King kind of ruined that idea for me. He always seems to bring something new. One time he was telling his usual story of how he got the latest new agate rough. He was with a friend on some hill in someone's back acreage and dug up some rocks that were of the agate variety. They named that agate after the friend and the owner so it's a combined name with agate. I don't want to chase after every rock and pebble Jay King finds on some hill while they stopped at a Cracker Barrel crossing a bridge in Michigan. I knew I couldn't do that.

I certainly like the widely accepted precious gems, and opaque gemstones like carnelian, charoite, green aventurine, etc. I avoid Jay King's random gravel of agate and quartz. It doesn't mean I don't have fun looking. I don't need to buy though.

For my 60th, Mr. Hag gave me a necklace with charoite and onyx in a silver setting.  I had a pair of charoite earrings that I got at an art fair many years ago, and now I have something to go with it!

    Hi, GAM2

A little late checking in, but wanted to tell you that we have had our sleep number for about 5 years now.  For us, it's been absolute heaven.  Yes, it does take a few nights to find the right number, but once you do it is heavenly.  Only problem for us, we just can't sleep on anything else now.  I hope you love yours as much as we do ours!

We've had ours for about 5 years, and we love it!  We also have the adjustable base, which has been really great for keeping my head up with this pneumonia.

On another topic, when my father died, I felt like a huge burden had been lifted from my shoulders.  He was a hateful, manipulative pedophile.  I was only civil to him because he would have made my mom choose.  He tortured my brother and me for decades.  It was a great day for us when he croaked.  He had issues with my other siblings, but they chose to sanctify him after his death.  I had to forgive him for my own mental health, but my psychiatrist told me that I never had to stop protecting myself.  At least now, I am free to call, visit, and take care of Mama Hag as much as I want.

I'm getting very nervous about my mother.  She's 96 and in a nursing home; one of the aides just called me to say Mom said she feels congested and can't breathe too well, so they're going to do blood tests and whatnot.  Every time the phone rings I'm expecting dire news and don't know how I will cope....

My anxiety levels are through the roof.  I'm trying to "let go and let God" -- all of that -- but am fearful of what my physical and emotional reactions will be when the end comes.  I know she's old and has outlasted all her siblings, but I'm sure it will still be a shock.

(((Bronxoni))) Praying for you and mom.  When Mama Hag nearly bit the dust 6 months ago, I was hit with how hard it will be when she goes.

I might be even sadder?  I have never had meatloaf in my life.  My mother never made it.

We had meatloaf way too many times when I was growing up.  You had it the first night, then in your sandwich the next day, then reheated on a trivet over water a few days later.  I am proud to say that I have not made a single meat loaf since I left home.  Blech.

I'll have to look for those smaller avocados at Trader Joe's. I love putting slices of avocado in sandwiches.

I made the potato salad for our cookout this afternoon. Looks like it may be a cook-in since it's rainy this morning here in the Philly area. Supposedly the rain will be mostly out of here this morning - I'm hoping! Anyway if any one likes to make potato salad, I do mine with a little extra ingredient that's really tasty. After you boil the potatoes and let them cool, cut them up, add some salt, pepper and diced onion, and then add some Italian dressing (I use Kraft Zesty Italian). For 4-5 lbs. of potatoes, I use 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the dressing. Then let it sit for a few hours in the fridge (I usually let it sit overnight). The Italian dressing absorbs into the potatoes and adds great flavor while keeping the potato salad moist. Then I add diced celery, chopped hard boiled eggs and mayo. Really yummy!

I make mine using roasted red potatoes and a balsamic/basil/mustard vinaigrette.

  9. We get Charmin Ultra Strong super size rolls on sale at Target. Mr. Hag goes through them in a day otherwise.  Our bathrooms were built in the past 10 years, so we can handle the big rolls.

I buy plants from a local nursery that you have to know about to find. It's on a residential street, and They not only have their own greenhouses, their homes are on the property as well.  It's a cool place.  I'll be getting my herbs from an organic grower at my farmers' market.

I love Boscovs. My mom and I would shop there when we lived in Pennsylvania when I was a kid. There's one in Lancaster and when we vacation up there, we occasionally stop at the mall. I always stop at Boscovs and Gertrude Hawk when I'm at the mall there.

I went shopping today for some capri length pants. With my figure, shorts are no longer my friend. I usually wear knee-length denim skirts in the summer, but they can be awkward when sitting, if you catch my drift. I decided to do brick-and-mortar shopping and I'm glad I did. I went to Boscov's (those of you in PA or the mid-Atlantic area know this chain) and got a fabulous deal on capris. The brand is Salem Straits (probably a Boscov's house brand), they're 100% cotton, drawstring waist, "pork chop" pockets with a cute button detail, and the perfect length, although two of the pairs have a roll tab so if I want to cuff them to shorten them a bit, I can. I got four pairs - black, khaki, army green, and navy. The best part - they were on sale for $9.99 and I had a 15% off coupon, so each one cost me $8.50!! I saved so much money, I got this top in a couple of different colors at $18 a pop after sale discounts and my coupon; also 100% cotton, great for hot days:

    I don't think I could've gotten a better deal online!

I want this top!!!  I love the color and the cut.  I couldn't find it online :(
