  1. I get all of my proteins from a CSA that makes home deliveries all winter. (No fish or seafood). I have a bread guy who has periodic sales in the winter. We have an upright freezer, so I stock up once a month. I do about half of my shopping at a Trader Joe's. we have a good local market for organic produce and specialty items. Regarding Aldi, we have one near us, but I haven't been in years. I might try it over the holidays.
  2. Hubba hubba! GO CUBS GO!!!! I lived on Waveland Avenue a block from Wrigley back In The '70s.
  3. Well, I could not get in to see the relics. It was mobbed! They even had cops and port-a-potties set up outside. I didn't tell her I was going to try, so she won't be disappointed. I did buy Mr. Hag a new recliner today. The springs fell out of his old one, so this is his Christmas gift. He loves it! He sat in every one in the store!
  4. Mama Hag is whipped into a frenzy! Padre Pio relics are on display tomorrow at a parish near me. She doesn't leave the house, so I am hoping that I can get over there to get a holy card for her. They are letting people touch the cards to the relics. Did I mention that Padre Pio is her favorite saint? She has a framed photograph of him in her living room!
  5. Well, the good news is that my pneumonia is not back. The bad news is that I have a terrible bronchial infection. Got an inhaler and some big drugs. Hope to be feeling better by next week.
  6. ((((Imisspuddy)))) you are a great daughter. Mom knew it, and so do we. Cricket, ouch!
  7. (((Imisspuddy))) praying for you and yours
  8. My friend is in a part of a Houston that was not badly affected.
  9. Well, Mama Hag saw her cardiologist yesterday. Her pacemaker is good for 8 more years, at which time she will be 94. Of course, she had to add "hopefully, I'll be dead by then." She's out of her mind. Mr. Hag said she will outlive all of us.
  10. I sent him with a list and instructions to ONLY get things on the list. I knew how much it should be, so I monitored my debit card activity. Good boy; he stuck to the list!
  11. It's a lovely shade of purple and I can't put any weight on it. The result? He is out doing my errands as I type this. Good thing I finished all the laundry (mine and household) on Monday whilst he was at the Cubs game.
  12. We do our own, but I mostly do the household laundry. Occasionally, he will do it if I ask, but I always have to take the initiative. I truly think this is an xy issue. As my daughter says "Why? XY!"
  13. I sprained my foot this evening. While I am naturally klutzy, Mr. Hag is at fault for leaving a case of beer in the back hallway. I came in from outside and tripped right over it. As you can imagine, I gave him hell because I've been bugging him for 3 days to put it away. He's still stalling. "I'll get to it." It's always "will", "could", or "might"; never "doing" or "did". I had to reschedule a business meeting. He needs to understand that I am the major breadwinner. If Mama can't work, no one gets anything. Plus, it hurts like hell. End of rant. Thanks for listening.
  14. Congratulations, Booney! Hoping for good news, Cricket.
  15. I get all of my perennials from friends or local greenhouses. They know best what grows in our area. I have a strange sun pattern in my yard; almost none in front and a LOT on the south side. I am gradually repopulating after a knucklehead in our building decided to let her dogs do their business in the yard. (FYI, it's illegal to do that within 15 feet of anyone's window in Chicago.)
  16. Dayum, Cricket, you need a break! Keep us posted. Still praying.
  17. (((Cricket and Joe))). sorry about the complications, but glad you're home. Still praying for you both. ?
  18. (((Cricket & Joe))) Dayum, you guys can't catch a break! Thinking of you both. So sorry about your tree.
  19. I first met kudzu in AL. Holy crap, it was EVERYWHERE! It grows over everything including street signs, mailboxes, and traffic signs. Cricket, check your PM.
  20. I will be praying for everyone on here who is going through tough times. Consider yourselves virtually hugged. I am still (!) recovering from my pneumonia. I went to the doc this week and he said it will be a few months before I feel up to snuff. I went to an art fair for an hour this afternoon, and to Home Depot this evening for half an hour. I'm completely wiped out!
  21. (((Cricket & Joe))) praying for peace for you this weekend. It's not an easy wait. If you're up for it, do something frivolous and fun. I am celebrating my 35th anniversary of being cancer free. I am still not all the way back from pneumonia, but feel like a humanoid for the first time in a month. We've had poor air quality warnings this week, so it's been an indoor week. Still missing my pooch, but I have lots of pics to remind me. I have not read much of the other board since I got sick, but I agree that it's been kind of bringing me down. I am not a big fan of Hobby Lobby, for many reasons.
  22. ((Bronxoni & Mom))) I agree completely with LMSJ. You can't control his reaction, but you will rest easier knowing that you did the right thing. Praying for all of you. ❤️
  23. Yep! I used to know a guy who bought and sold gold fillings. He was loaded. Died at age 45 from Type 1 diabetes. I forgot to mention that my pooch died yesterday. It was for the best; she was riddled with metastatic cancer. I miss her like crazy. ?
