We're getting an Aldi in my neighborhood too. It's a brand new shopping center, and the grocery store was supposed to be a Fresh Market, but for some reason they pulled out of their lease. Aldi will take over the space. I've never been in one and I suppose I will check it out, but I'm firmly wedded to my large chain grocery store that I shop in weekly. Their prices are good, the variety is huge, they double coupons, they have a ton of their own digital coupons, and almost every week in their circular, they have a coupon for $8.00 off if you spend $75 or more. I like one-stop grocery shopping. My late father-in-law used to compare prices and go to different stores to get the best deals - produce here, meat there, that store was having a sale on detergent, etc. Not me - get 'er all done in one store, one trip.

I get all of my proteins from a CSA that makes home deliveries all winter. (No fish or seafood). I have a bread guy who has periodic sales in the winter.  We have an upright freezer, so I stock up once a month.  I do about half of my shopping at a Trader Joe's.  we have a good local market for organic produce and specialty items.

Regarding Aldi, we have one near us, but I haven't been in years. I might try it over the holidays.

I had to share this amazing video.  So sweet and so funny!

Oh, and I had to share this too!

GO CUBS GO!!!! I lived on Waveland Avenue a block from Wrigley back In The '70s.

  3. Well, I could not get in to see the relics.  It was mobbed!  They even had cops and port-a-potties set up outside.  I didn't tell her I was going to try, so she won't be disappointed.

I did buy Mr. Hag a new recliner today.  The springs fell out of his old one, so this is his Christmas gift.  He loves it!  He sat in every one in the store!

  4. Mama Hag is whipped into a frenzy!  Padre Pio relics are on display tomorrow at a parish near me. She doesn't leave the house, so I am hoping that I can get over there to get a holy card for her.  They are letting people touch the cards to the relics.  Did I mention that Padre Pio is her favorite saint?  She has a framed photograph of him in her living room!

Just heard from a friend who lives in south Houston.  The water is halfway up his lawn.  His wife and daughter are nurses at Houston's Medical Center and won't be able to leave work until Wednesday, at the earliest.  He's hunkered down at home with his grandchildren, their dog and his two cats.

His biggest problem?  He's run out of cat litter and wonders if Amazon will deliver by drone.  Gotta keep a sense of humor in the face of disaster.

    I'm desperately worried about him.

My friend is in a part of a Houston that was not badly affected.

My husband was 40 yrs old, and had been divorced for nearly 10 yrs. when we met.  As such, he had been doing his own laundry for that long (except for the occasional load he would take to his mother's - ugh).  I saw no reason to take on that duty, simply because we began cohabitating and because I had girl parts.  Fast forward 31 years...he does his, I do mine.  It works.

We do our own, but I mostly do the household laundry.  Occasionally, he will do it if I ask, but I always have to take the initiative.  I truly think this is an xy issue.  As my daughter says "Why? XY!"

  7. I sprained my foot this evening.  While I am naturally klutzy, Mr. Hag is at fault for leaving a case of beer in the back hallway. I came in from outside and tripped right over it.  As you can imagine, I gave him hell because I've been bugging him for 3 days to put it away.  He's still stalling.  "I'll get to it."  It's always "will", "could", or "might"; never "doing" or "did".  I had to reschedule a business meeting.  He needs to understand that I am the major breadwinner.  If Mama can't work, no one gets anything.  Plus, it hurts like hell.  End of rant. Thanks for listening.

Sounds like you tried a good selection from QVC.  Sorry they didn't work for you.  I am hesitant to order online.  They say they will replace them.  I know what you mean about simplifying things.  I am relatively new to growing things and I don't want to waste money.

I get all of my perennials from friends or local greenhouses.  They know best what grows in our area.  I have a strange sun pattern in my yard; almost none in front and a LOT on the south side.  I am gradually repopulating after a knucklehead in our building decided to let her dogs do their business in the yard.  (FYI, it's illegal to do that within 15 feet of anyone's window in Chicago.)

  9. I will be praying for everyone on here who is going through tough times.  Consider yourselves virtually hugged.

I am still (!) recovering from my pneumonia.  I went to the doc this week and he said it will be a few months before I feel up to snuff.  I went to an art fair for an hour this afternoon, and to Home Depot this evening for half an hour.  I'm completely wiped out!

  10. (((Cricket & Joe))) praying for peace for you this weekend.  It's not an easy wait.  If you're up for it, do something frivolous and fun.

I am celebrating my 35th anniversary of being cancer free.  I am still not all the way back from pneumonia, but feel like a humanoid for the first time in a month.  We've had poor air quality warnings this week, so it's been an indoor week.

Still missing my pooch, but I have lots of pics to remind me.

I have not read much of the other board since I got sick, but I agree that it's been kind of bringing me down.

I am not a big fan of Hobby Lobby, for many reasons.

My opinion is yes, inform him.  What he chooses to do with that information is on him.  By telling him, you remove yourself from the situation between your mom and him, and let him decide how to react.  You won't have to feel guilty about not telling him or wonder if you did the right or wrong thing by not telling.

At that point, you will have done your part and then some.

((Bronxoni & Mom)))  I agree completely with LMSJ.  You can't control his reaction, but you will rest easier knowing that you did the right thing.  Praying for all of you. ❤️

Oh my goodness, @seahag, LOL  I'm (practically) speechless!

Did she get a good deal on the gold fillings?

Yep!  I used to know a guy who bought and sold gold fillings.  He was loaded.  Died at age 45 from Type 1 diabetes.

I forgot to mention that my pooch died yesterday.  It was for the best; she was riddled with metastatic cancer.  I miss her like crazy. ?
