I'm happy that we're now done with tv awards season as I'm bored with seeing Succession, Beef, and The Bear sweep everything. Although I know it's now a moot point with Succession and Beef. And while I love The Bear, IT IS NOT A COMEDY.

I thought it was interesting that the Succession cast didn’t win either of the individual awards. With the male category, it was a split between Brian, Kieran, and Matthew, but then Sarah Snook didn’t win! I wonder if SAG had Succession fatigue too.

I wonder if Kieran shot himself in the foot by starting his fake feud with Pedro Pascal.

This would be the perfect jumping off point for a streaming series - less pew-pew, more politics.  It would really give them room to explore a post-Empire galaxy because there's a big difference between winning a rebellion and constructing a lasting peace.

Isn’t that exactly what the Mandalorian Universe is doing?

Was super excited about the EP 1 anniversary news but was immediately saddened by lots and lots of people trashing it across various platforms :'(. I know it's a terrible movie but I've always found it the fun kind of terrible. Also Attack of the Clones is worse, fight me.

Attack of the Clones is definitely worse. Phantom Menace at least has Dual of the Fates and podracing to make up for all the cringingly bad parts.

  3. I can’t believe the forums went down the DAY the team medal drama was “resolved.” I missed you all something fierce!

Kamila received a 4 year ban on competing (but it's retroactive to 12/2021 so she'd be able to compete in 2026).

She’ll be too old to compete for Russia in 2026 anyway. 19 is ancient for a Russian female skater.

Now we’ll see if the IOC follows existing precedents of disqualifying the team results and reallocating medals…

There's also the fact that his high placements earn future spots at Worlds (and the Olympics, I believe). He may take one of those spots, but if others don't place as well internationally, the U.S. would lose the spot (or spots?) anyway. --He is also still extremely popular.

I agree. He sits out the Grand Prix and 4c, which is where skaters can gain international experience. The men’s field is too inconsistent, and Ilia can’t carry US figure skating on his own. Unless someone like Vincent Zhou comes back next season, they’ll need Jason Brown to lock in Olympic slots next year too.

Pretty sure Taylor will be on tour in Japan during the SB

Prepare to hear ad nauseam for the next 2 weeks the exact schedule Taylor Swift will have to follow to fly from Japan to Las Vegas and make it in time for the game.

  7. This certainly complicates Ava Ziegler’s strategy for Worlds. She needed Isabeau to win Nationals to leave that second Worlds slot in question, but now Amber Glenn has a pretty good claim on it.

For me, what makes Margot’s absence funny (in a bitter way) is that it sort of fits the point the movie was trying to make.

This! Ken getting the recognition for Barbie, even though Barbie carried the whole movie is the most Barbie thing that could have happened.

Paul Giamatti is running second in momentum behind Cillian Murphy but is possible if he snags the SAG

I’m surprised Cillian still has the edge after Paul picked up the Critics Choice and hasn’t missed on a major nom. If he wins, I wonder if In n Out will give him an endorsement.

Gosh, I forgot that Annette still hasn't won an Oscar. For some reason I thought she'd had one in there sometime in the past. But you're right, she has no chance. It's Lily vs. Emma at this point. Or the international community can rally and completely surprise us, and give to Sandra.

I feel like at this point, the only nominations that mattered were Lily and Emma, and the other three actresses were picked from a hat. The acting races feel more predictable than usual this year. The supporting categories feel locked up, while the lead categories are down to two front runners. I didn’t even notice that Leo was snubbed, because Paul and Cillian seem like the only options.

Disappointed for Dua Lipa and the catchy "Dance the Night Away".  No doubt that Billie Eilish and "What Was I Made For" will win.  I find this to be one of the most boring and morose songs I've ever heard.  It's drab whispering, very repetitive, and almost tuneless.

Same. I loved the whole Barbie soundtrack except for “What Was I Made For.” Billie Eilish is so talented, but this song is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

the Bear is probably repeating next year

The Bear airs in that in between zone of eligibility, where season 2 aired during the Emmy voting period, so I could see it potentially falling off the radar next year if another comedic darling comes along.

Agree with this part. In fact, the only two from last year I can remember is the baby one with Tyler, Andrew and Paul.  And the Lacey Chabert/Wes Brown one which had a sequel this year.

Ghosts of Christmas Always was another good one from last year. I feel like by next year, I'll only remember 2 or 3 from this year too, which is fine, because it makes catching reruns less tenuous.

Yep, it was pretty sad.  I know new talent is needed but some screen testing might have been nice.  It's like they pulled names out of a hat.

Exactly! Although, even when they strike gold with some pairings, when the story isn't there, it's tough to catch lightning twice. Autumn Reeser and Antonio Cupo come to mind. I guess, statistically, Hallmark needs only 5/100 new movies in a season to succeed, so they don't saturate my holiday rewatch schedule year after year (I didn't even have time to watch Nine Lives of Christmas this year my DVR is so full!) but it's such a slog getting through the duds.

i quite liked this, however my love/hate with SC and her writing stems with the fact she cannot do romance, she screwed up Katniss’s relationships and she does it again with snow and Lucy Gray…she set a perfect opportunity to come up with something great to cause a rift or cause snow to go evil, but that’s what she comes up with???

I think the filmmakers did a terrible job adapting Katniss's relationships, but I thought the romance written by Suzanne Collins was mostly great. The movies tried too hard to make it into a Twilight-esque love triangle, but it was much more subtle in the books. Or maybe it's just that book!Katniss and book!Peeta checked off all of my favorite tropes, so the romance was an easy sell for me.

I didn't like the romance between Snow and Lucy Gray, because she was just his Manic Pixie Dream Girl, who didn't fit into the box he wanted, and that dynamic was well played out through the 2010's. The point of Snow is that he didn't need a catalyst to go evil. He was evil and self serving all along. His journey was getting his foot in the door to regain his elite standings in an already evil society, even after being given the opportunity to embrace humanity.

I think what really grinds my gears with the Russian skaters is that they see themselves as huge victims. They think they're victims of political persecution. They think the other skating federations are jealous and want them kept out because they're so competitive. They think the doping scandal isn't a scandal at all and somehow doesn't reflect poorly on any of the Russians involved.

Speaking of, have they handed out the team medals yet? It's been 2 years!

One of the things that bothered me the most was the complete lack of comedy in this movie.

Agreed. It was pretty bland, and I think part of the reason was that none of the characters were given any charisma. Even Charlie Hunnam, who was supposed to be a total scoundrel was just kind of there. Maybe he was too busy choking on his Irish accent.

I was excited for this movie based on the premise, but it didn't deliver. Everything about it was boring. And the final battle drove me crazy! Why did they give the love interest a weapon and ask him to murder Sofia Boutella? Why did they need him to do it? Why could they not just do it themselves? That was some bush league Bond villain plotting right there.

  16. I watched Sealed with a List last night, and I thought the premise and the characters were good, but the story wasn't there. It meandered a lot. I think it could have been decent if the plot were tighter.

Now that Hallmark has shown their full crop (although I guess HMM still has a few left...) I think my top picks for the season are Catch Me if You ClausRound and Round, and The Santa Summit. I'd also maybe add Christmas on Cherry Lane, because although it was frustratingly confusing, there was a lot to think about after.

My award for most outlandish movie of the year is Navigating Christmas, in which the heroine decides to go halvesies on a lighthouse with her boyfriend of 3 days. Girl. What were you thinking? That town wasn't that charming. Runner up goes to the shipping boxes from Heidelberg Christmas

As someone who has been craving more Chanukah movies, I actually like this one because Chanukah was mainstream. No one was trying to teach someone else about it. Chanukah wasn't made into a Christmas celebrated by Jewish people. It was just a normal (as normal as reliving a day over and over again can be) movie that took place at Chanukah.

I like that they also tied the significance to her parents anniversary, so they had an excuse to throw a big party.

    - Everyone's parents live in huge, beautiful homes. No one ever comes home from the big city to a house less than 3,000 square feet. All parents' houses also have big porches and fire pits in the yard. Of course people need these huge houses so that they have somewhere to store all of the Christmas decorations.

This wasn't on Hallmark, but EXMas was the biggest offender this year. The exterior shots of the house were MASSIVE, yet, for some reason, they didn't have a guest bedroom, and there was only one shared hallway bath.

I wanted to like this as I like Katie Findlay.  (Love Strikes Twice was one of my favorite Hallmark movies from the past few years.)  But even though the actors were doing what they could, the romantic chemistry just never clicked for me.  Ultimately, I think I liked the premise more than the execution.

I haven't had a chance to watch Sealed with a List yet, but I thought I recognized the actress! Love Strikes Twice was such a gem! I've also liked Evan Roderick since Spinning Out on Netflix, but all the Hallmark movies he's done have been such duds, although Autumn in the City was decent.
