  1. Saw the show last night. Oh my. So Matt used 7,000 old tires to build that hut, grade and put in the floor, side the walls with wood (the Brown house also now has inside siding, I noticed, though just studs upstairs and the rooms are wide open without interior walls) and did it all in three days, two weeks or whatever? Uh-huh. So the production company called in the local building crew again to do some projects, though we're still waiting for a front door and tiles or something on the roof to replace that tarp with winter coming in 10 minutes.

Or it was 2,000 or 5,000 or I swear he accidentally said 20,000 at one point.  I doubt the family put all that up themselves but even if they did it's obvious on every episode that this show really, really messes with timelines.   The most realistic thing that happened was Cupcake immediately jumping on that new bed and making himself at home - Dogs never fail to find the most comfortable spot.

  2. Still watching it but I hate that Megyn had to throw in "huge ratings success" when she mentioned both the girls weddings being televised.  It's borderline but in the context of the rest of the interview and the general way she's treating the Duggars I feel like it was another little knife twist of "see how great and popular they are, everyone wants to watch them"

I want to know what these lies Jessa is referring to? Is she disputing the facts in this case?

Also, they kept saying that Josh was changed or seemed different when he came back from treatment. Was he outwardly acting like a perv before or just overall seemed different? I want to know what they mean by this too.

Conjecture of course but.............I picture Josh turning into a mini Jim Bob but with that teenage know it all swagger that guys that age can get which would pretty much make him a jerk to be around.  Maybe he toned that down for awhile, maybe not such a bossy second male in charge attitude (at least for awhile, not something we've seen in the past few years)

NOT saying this happened - just want to be clear on that first but.................Apparently JB and Michelle never considered and were never told (by the professionals, CPS, police or whoever they supposedly talked to) that molesters are not necessarily confined to opposite sex molesting.  The safeguards they put in place kept the girls with the girls and the boys with the boys.  They're lucky Josh didn't go on to "experiment" with his little brothers.  A true professional giving advice on how to handle this would have told the parents that's a real possibility.  But I think that's so far outside the Duggar's experience and beliefs not to mention that it would open the possibility of Josh being gay that they never would have considered or accepted.

Again just want to be clear - not saying it happened, not saying Josh is Gay or Bi, only making a point on how their sheltered life does less to protect their kids.

Horrifying. I need to watch something (else) off the wall stupid before I go to bed.

A little off topic but this is why I DVR repeats of the Golden Girls - When we just can't deal anymore one episode of stupid hi-jinx and snappy comebacks usually makes me laugh

  3. What I got from Jim Bob and Michelle's explanations about what happened is that, following Josh's first confession, "safeguards" were put in place to protect the girls, yet he managed to continue sexually abusing them for another 16 months, until his "third" (?) confession, when they finally took steps to stop him.  Then JimBob says that the success rate at actual treatment centers isn't very high.  So much better that he chose to handle it himself, which allowed the girls to continue to be victims for over a year.  Way to protect your daughters, dipwad!

Here he's stating that treatment success rate isn't high - But he mentions multiple times in the interview that Josh is "cured".  Another contradiction or another excuse - if the sucess rate to rehabilitate young molestors is low indicating that, more often than not, they repeat offend then he can't claim that Josh is fixed unless he wants to also claim some new treatment the rest of the world hasn't discovered yet or just go for a straight out miracle.  On the other hand if he's exaggerating those statistics and standard treatment centers are succesful in most cases it means he really didn't want or intend to send Josh to a real program in the first place or he just didn't bother to check out more than one possible place before shipping him off to the CCCC (Construction Camp Counseling Center).

I still really, really want to know where 15 year old home schooled Josh who, by their own statement, had never been away from home before they sent him of for "treatment" found the money when he did come home to pay for his own "accredited" counseling.  Let's be generous and say they found someone who charged a sliding rate of $50 a session and that Josh only went once a week.  That's still $200 a month.  He didn't make that from an allowance or sweeping out rental/flip homes for JB.  If he went to fewer sessions or only went once or twice then he didn't really get counseling the way they want us to think he did.  I still feel the claim of paying his own way was another spin to make it sound like he took responsibility for all of it so they can try and get us to think how wonderful and repentant he was/is.

  4. So do the Duggars think that no one has read the police report?

Did Megyn Kelly read the police report before interviewing them? Because there were quiet a few things she could have caught them lying about. I wish she would have had the report in her hands during the interview and pointed to parts and called them out.

(She still came at them way more aggressively than I expected. Maybe she's given them just enough rope.....)

Oh no, can't do that - it was gotten illegally doncha' know and because of that she has far to much journalistic integrity to use it in her interview   (heavy sarcasm alert)

I think JB was exhibiting some classic signs of lying in his opening statement - the speech was well rehearsed but delivered at the speed of light.  That fast talking can be a very good hint that the person is lying or telling a "story"

  5. Only 20 minutes in on the DVR but what a crock of crap already

The girls were asleep and never knew what happened, except when they were awake and he touched them.  But then they didn't understand that was bad touch - except that we already had talked to them about the sleeping incident and explained there was bad touch.  So either Josh touched his sisters while they were sleeping and somehow JB & Michelle talked to the girls about it without every exactly explaining what Josh did or where he touched that was wrong and without educating them right then on what sort of touching is wrong  OR  they did talk to the girls and they understood what had happened which makes them liars when they say that the girls didn't know what Josh did wrong when he did it again while they were awake.

We put safeguards in place - so far said multiple, multiple times....would you like to explain what those were?  Lock the girls in at night?  Put a bell alarm on Josh?  How could Megyn not ask them to clarify that!

But he went to rehab, or he went to a friend, or he got counseling, or he did construction.  By the way - Josh was 15, home schooled, by their own admission never been away from home before; please tell us how he paid for real accredited professional counseling "himself"

And of course she opened with "illegally obtained police report" making Josh, JB & Michelle sound like victims in need of sympathy from the start

  6. No matching clothes?

So this is what is in People about the girls Jill and Jessa.

SMH why would they out them?

    http://www.people.com/article/josh-duggar-molestation-scandal-michelle-jim-bob-megyn-kelly-fox-news-video?xid=socialflow_facebook_peoplemag

Just saw it on Peoples site and can't get past a reaction of... Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god (and repeat). Can not believe they did it, first because it makes it "real" plus we can all do the math to figure how old everyone was which just - ugh. But mostly because nothing will ever convince me the girls had any real say in whether to keep it secret or reveal it was them and I won't be able to believe what we know they're going to say abou having forgiven Josh long ago. It's just all getting so much worse.

  7. Abandon hope all ye who DVR here

    http://www.ew.com/article/2015/06/02/fox-news-why-isnt-media-scrutinizing-how-josh-duggars-police-file-got-leaked

Megyn Kelly definitely has NO intention of doing a "real" interview she is going to softball this all the way.

The worst part is if it ends up the way it sounds then we know the Duggar supporters will be all over the I told you so's and the It's just jealous anti-christians rhetoric, it'll give them fuel for their defenses.

I'm still going to watch - I feel like if only the people who agree with them watch then there's nobody able to say what a pile of bull the interview was.

    One part of the article:

Kelly also teases her interview with the Duggars, which will air Wednesday.“This isn’t going to be a cross-examination of a family It’s going to be an interview. I want to hear their story,” she said. “And I think America wants to hear their story now.”

  8. I think the interview will be a big disappointment. It's pre-taped and because Jim Bob is such a control freak, I doubt he'll allow anything controversial in the final edit. Fox will avoid controversy too and take the big ratings. I would love to be wrong about this and see somebody hold them accountable for their beliefs and actions, but that has never happened before.

I think the interview plan and talking points that Jim Bob is putting in place means the viewers are going to get spun more than a 10 year old on a tilt-a-whirl.

I'll watch, and feel slightly gross for doing so, around these forums everyone will be pretty honest but I think it'll be interesting to see who gives press statements the next day with things like thanking them for their honesty and saying they hope the media will now put this behind them, that viewers can now move on etc.

  9. From the CNN article about the interview:

The parents of the famous Duggar family will answer questions about the Josh Duggar molestation scandal in an interview on Fox News this week.
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar will speak with Fox anchor Megyn Kelly at their home in Arkansas, and the interview will air on Kelly's 9 p.m. program on Wednesday, Fox announced on Saturday.
Josh Duggar and the other children on the family's reality show "19 Kids and Counting" will apparently not be a part of the interview

Annoying and very telling - Only Jim Bob and Michelle but they are going answer questions about Josh.  Their son is a 27 year old man who was put on TV by his parents but then willing went on broadcasting his life as an adult in his own home.  Can he not speak for himself?  If they were really interested in addressing this Josh would appear with them or have his own interview.  Putting JB & Mechelle on is just giving them a forum to spin everything the way they want.  And (not that the girls should appear anyway, they shouldn't,) keeping all the kids out of it plus Josh and Anna guarantees no hung head, uncomfortable looks or side eyes to give away when they're outright lying.  We'll see how "hard hitting" this turns out to be

  10. I have a hard time feeling sympathy for a grown-ass woman acting like a big baby at the dentist's office, especially when one of her observing daughters will most likely need the same surgery in a few years. .

This grown-ass woman has a deep, deep fear of dentist that came from a slightly abusive pediatric dentist with no bedside manner who, in hindsight never should have been working with kids. I need one tooth pulled and have been putting it off for months; if I thought I needed six done it would take Valium just to get me in the waiting room. We can't help our phobias even if they look silly to others.

Not blaming you for what you said though, "reality" shows like this don't help when they play it up for drama to make things look oh so dire or make the person look crazy instead of a little nervous. That gets some viewers actually believing every single thing they see........my Mother being one, she thinks the Brown family are modern day pioneers; she also thinks all the stings on Mystery Diners are real and that some of the employees get arrested after the show ( she's a little older so I just play along)

  11. I'm sure you clever other watchers saw lots more...

The fake shopping trip for the girls where they were able to just open random stuff like the breath strips and nobody stops them or asks if they're buying that. They lived in town after the boat sank but made the Juno trip look like these kids had never seen a displosible razor before.

Shouldn't Ami have been a little more swollen? She's got a pretty thin face and when she got back to the cabin she didn't look any different. I don't doubt she had something done but I think they played with the timeline

And how did the boys know to pick them up when they got back? I don't remember seeing a radio unless it's the one on the boat but they sure didn't hang around the boat all day waiting for Billy to call. You know if they set up some system the narrator would be all over it "Matt goes to the boat at 3pm every day hoping Billy will call and say they're coming home.. Communication in the bush take planning"

  12. Didn't Jonathan say something about there was an issue at the processor? Maybe they couldn't take any offloads for a period of time due to some problem which pushed everyone's date back.

He may have said that and I missed it - That would explain why he didn't try to get them to lessen the delay; he knew there's was nothing anyone could do.

  13. Jake A needs to handle his temper better. I get he's exhausted but when you are captain you will deal with various scenarios. Sig may be sitting in a warm wheelhouse but we've all seen him sweating bullets and still keeping his cool. A good caption keeps his wits under pressure.

I was going to reply that all the captains have a temper and we've seen them all blow their tops.  But thinking about it more - the examples I can come up with don't involve Sig.  Keith has lost it on camera multiple times (there's the famous fight with a DC crew member who didn't make coffee) and Wild Bill can get hot and bothered.  But if Sig has lost it to the point where he truly went off on someone I don't remember it.  Angry yes, they have to be tough to run those boats, but not out of control angry.

I believe Jake A will get there though simple because he seems like the type who truly wants it and if it means he has to work on something even if it's something internal like anger issues or handling stress he'll do it.

Felt for Captain Jonathan.    I know the TB used to be the "Douche Bandit" but that was always more Andy to me.   Jonathan is a less control freak version of Sig.   This is a business.   Things have to get done.   We do them a certain way for a reason.    We do it right, we all get make money.   He was really upset over the dead loss.   It came out of his pocket.   But you notice the crew still came away okay.   They take care of their folks.   Like a boat owner should (hint hint Josh).

Wondering - we didn't see Jonathan fight for a better spot when he was told they had to wait to off load.  Could he have and how are these things controlled?  Could he have said "hey my crabs have been in the hold a little too long and they're gonna start dying off if you delay my offload too; can you help me out".  In most places that would fall under couldn't hurt to ask but maybe this doesn't work the same.  I'd like to see them cover some of that, maybe on the bait - how does the offload work, how do they arrange it, how do they negotiate deadlines etc.

I think the worst though was knowing that those piles of dead crab still counted against their quota, that they couldn't just turn around, go back out and make it up, that's really rough.

  14. MSN has picked up the DHS suit news also - a "source" (so take it as you will) feels that it was likely to appeal a decsion made in the CPS investigation but with all records sealed it's going to be impossible to know for sure what the outcome and appeal (if any) or reason for the suit were or how it fits into the timeline.  The only thing known for sure is this dogged him into 2007 because that's when the trial took place but since the show offically started in 2008 the crew couldn't have known about it and even though he was an adult by then it sounds like it wouldn't have shown up on any court documents at the time.

  15. You raise an interesting point. They are as obsessed about defrauding and modesty as they ever were. And they do say that their skirts are always supposed to cover the knee, and that their shirts are supposed to not be too tight or low cut. But I'd agree that they push the envelope with both those things. They are completely blind to the fact that their modesty standards are arbitrary, and that by nature of being human beings, they will certainly "defraud" people every day. It's almost like, to them, as long as you follow Gothard's magic but highly arbitrary formula, you're safe from defrauding.

I'll say this quickly but take discussion to another thread since it risks going off topic - The Church or Gothards and Jim Bob, Michelle and by extension the kids have no idea what modesty is because their version of it isn't societies version.  We've all sort of agreed as a society that for men and women the groin and butt isn't shown in public and for women add in no breasts.  Breast feeding and, in appropriate settings thong bathing suits excluded.  But the Duggar version of modesty isn't about body parts it's about stirring lust.  What they don't recognize is that what makes a man or woman attracted to another person isn't necessarily the part that's between the neck and the knee - some people get off on feet yet the girls wear flip flops and sandals all the time, other people find hair (head or facial depending on the sex or even bald) a turn on. Even in countries were a burka is worn some men get crazy trying to just imagine what is under it.

My point is they're not dressing that way meet or maybe exceed social norms and they can never achieve what they think they're achieving - dressing and presenting in such a way that nobody that sees them is ever tempted or has a lustful or sexual thought.  At some point the person looking at you has to control themselves and you're not responsible if they don't.

  16. TLC may have stopped airing them but the episodes are still available at TLC on demand - so I went back and watched the Erin Hill interview which I'd skipped when it was on (thought it would be boring).  It's harder to watch it now knowing what was about to hit the fan.............. but I wanted to see what people meant when they said it was tense and there were some weird looks.  I think I saw it most in Anna, her face changed when she thought the camera wasn't on her and she did a lot of glancing off camera at something or someone

Alison Arngrim linked, on Facebook, to this article that I think is pretty good - it's basically what if Josh had come out as gay instead what would the family, friend and political reaction be then.

  17. Alison Arngrim who played Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie is all over this on her twitter feed.   For those of you who have not read her book - she was sexually molested by her brother for years.   She never told her parents at the time, but she just begged them to not leave her alone with him.   It was the 70s.   Nobody was thinking of this at the time.   She went public years later.   Her parents believed her and were sorry they did not protect her.  He brother is proud of what he did.   EWWWWWWWW.

So yeah, she is supporting the victims and wishing that Josh got help.

I read her book when it was the daily deal for kindle awhile back  -  she is awesome, smart and wickedly funny.

I think it's really, really sad that this seems to be one of the only, maybe the only site where Josh is universally condemned.  Was just reading news on MSN and they had an article about the show being pulled; the number of comments excusing what he did because he was just a kid or it was his hormones or. just straight up bible quotes about judging and he who's without sin.................it's just sick and I can't figure if it's "Christians" who follow them and must defend them at all costs or if it's people who think that molesting someone is just a little touching and no big deal.  Maybe a combination of both but some of the comments they make trying to excuse him are just so horrible and I feel like I want to just smack them all down but at the same time you can't get into an argument with every one of them.

But if that's how strangers are reacting and how little sympathy they have for Josh's victims then I just can't imagine how the family who wanted to pray it away and sweep it under the rug made those girls feel.  I hope they sneak onto the right sites and find they have a LOT of support and a lot of people who put no blame on them at all.

  18. FRC isn't a typical corporate employer. They're a DC-based political lobbying entity with a specific agenda. I doubt that their funding or finances are transparent (they aren't a charity or a publicly held) corporation. FRC is in the PR/spin biz AND with a "holier than thou" allegedly "Christian" agenda. So,  FRC's going to cut loose a problematic spokesman in a hearbeat, whatever it costs them in money for a confidential severance deal. That's how that world works. It's not the typical corporate employer/employee situation.

So I believe Josh got some amount of money and probably a deal that included continuing insurance coverage for his family, in return for making a BS non-statement and going quietly and quickly.

I was thinking that too - That it's pretty good odds they gave him a "severance" package that included money and the company paying their benefits for a period of time to get him out the door as quickly and quietly as possible.

There is a part of me that doesn't want to see the show cancelled - I think it's because of the family size and the idea that everyone is going to be punished for this.  Jill and Jessa lose money for themselves and the kids still at home end up with even less when the family income drops.  I can only hope that Michelle and JB invested for a rainy day.

If they keep on TLC is going to have a lot of meetings to figure out how - do they force the family to drop the fake face they put on and start to be real or does JB demand they go on trying to make us think they have the perfect family and all is always well.

I'd still love to see Jinger and Jana demand their parents give them the TLC money they earned for appearing on the show as adults (they had to have signed their own contracts but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a clause that the money go to the parents or they just turned the money over when they were paid)...............take that cash use it to start a real life, go to school, date, whatever.  Any solution though pretty much screws over the young ones.

Sadly they still have their admirers - besides the support on Facebook I noticed articles at "The Stir" are getting a lot of responses along the lines of - This is fake, It's all gossip, It's blown out of proportion, How dare you tell them how to parent (seriously?) and (my favorite - not) This is a family issue and the person who "blabbed" to the authorities should be ashamed.   Just sad.

  19. For those saying Anna should divorce him......People and Entertainment Weekly both have articles up and they're quoting Anna as saying that Josh confessed everything to her and her parents before the were married. Whether that's true and she kept that secret all this time or she's being manipulated to keep sweet and follow a script now it seems to show she's not going anywhere.

I do feel a little bad for him losing his job but ONLY because of how it's going to affect Anna and especially the kids. A future job in the public eye is out - is the SOTDRT enough to give him a decent behind the scenes low level desk job

This is what the plot was supposed to be so no yelling at the messenger when it doesn't make sense. Bottom line - she panicked, Max and Ryan came to her penthouse because they were asking everyone there about Theo. She was sure that Ryan was suspicious of her and that he was looking into her background. She wanted to find out how much Ryan knew about her and whoever she's working for and who else had info on them/her. Except Ryan hadn't been checking up on her so it was her saving Ryan in the bunker that put her on Ryan's radar which I guess would have been the S4 plot line.
