Why on earth are the adults trying to make the kids look at their deceased relatives. Not everyone feels the same about that. I feel upset for the kids.

Agree! It also seems outrageous that the funeral directors in both scenarios are leading the kids around, forcing them to look.  Very strange.

Nico is a budding sociopath.   A bad seed.

Yes, his circumstances are extraordinary and no one should have to deal with that but as we have seen in other cases many do, and without coming even close to the degree of cruelty and remorselessness he demonstrated.  If that's how he acts when he's on camera, can you imagine when he's alone with her?

    He enjoyed tormenting her.

I think it's more that he is trying to get back at her for everything she has not done for him.

He really needs support and guidance at that age, and instead he is abused.

Rewatching Cynthia cussing out her brother after she was turned down for surgery for gaining 4 lbs and I just want to reach through the TV screen and bitchslap her!  I wonder how many times she's lashed out at her brother growing up whenever she was frustrated, but more important, how many times has she lashed out at her kids?  She definitely has a potty mouth.  I wonder if she's ever cussed in front of her students.  She's a mean piece of work when she's mad.

It will definitely come out with her kids.

It really angered me that Cynthia would knowingly deny her two children the chance to have a father present in their lives.  It's very selfish and wrong.

I agree, it's hard to watch.  Is it bad that I'm happy it's coming back for another season?  I've lost over 100 pounds myself and this show is part of my maintenance plan, to remind me where NOT to go.  I didn't do it through surgery though.

I really don't think these patients are prepared for how everything can change after such a huge weight loss.  I do wish they would talk more about the psychiatric/emotional aspects of this process they go through.

I enjoy this show also, but it's getting increasingly depressing and voyeuristic.

Congrats on a huge accomplishment!  It's very difficult to do on your own.

I wish they would have an extended version where they cover the emotional issues.

  5. OMG x 2   !        I might have to watch this series, of course with hands close to cover my eyes.

I have a feeling this next episode (Lupe) is going to be the Penny-Pauline of the season.    I am not sure after this week's show I will watch. The broken toilet scene skeers me.

Supersize vs Superskinny is mostly interesting, and they talk about emotional reasons for problems with food.

I'm ready for the next Penny, and can't wait for Lupe!

  6. This was horrible.  Sean and his mother need an intervention.  Why didn't Sean have physical rehab after his injury in high school?  It doesn't make sense to let someone just stay in a bed forever.

When Sean went to the hospital for his fake heart attack, in the next scene after the commercial his hair was much shorter than when he arrived.

  7. Milla's husband did not seem to be very involved with anything. I know he had serious health issues also.

Her children cared so much and actually wanted to help.  It would be interesting to see how growing up in that environment affects them in later life.

  8. Was it Randy, his two sisters, his parents and about 6 kids that lived in the house? Did either of the sisters have a boyfriend/husband? Maybe they are both single moms and can't afford to live on their own. I did also notice that both Randy and his one sister worked for his dad in their hardware store. Geez, talk about an extreme case of  co-dependency in the family.  It seems like Randy gained weight as a kid at his father's encouragement in order to do well in sports and he was never able to change his behavior after he grew up.

The sister who was overweight had a fiance.  He was in the episode towards the end, when Randy had to go to the hospital.  The whole living situation was strange.  Maybe the father was trying to control all of his children.

  9. Dr. Now's whole 'you have an enlarged weak heart, lose some weight and we'll see' bothered me immensely. Shouldn't the patient at least have been referred to a cardiologist? I'm hoping that Dr. Now is a cardiologist or his practice includes a heart specialist and he/she was consulted off-screen otherwise that just seems wrong to me.

Yes, especially when many others on this show have been hospitalized just to be in a controlled environment.

  10. This episode was like Marla 2, only with more health problems and more enablers.  Getting extra food while in the hospital seemed very suspicious.

I wonder if the show will ever address some of the cultural reasons why some people refuse talk therapy.  Teretha was an educated woman who worked in the social work field, I would hazard a guess she's even referred clients to therapists, and she still didn't want to tell a stranger her secrets.  It would be an interesting thing for the show to explore, but that would probably get in the way of all the gorging and bathing scenes.

Some of the people probably don't want to address their own problems, because it's the first step towards real change.

  11. I wish Dr. Now had said more about the pain pills causing the ulcer. I would assume it was advil or something like advil not lortab or prescription meds? When Dr. Now said that she had abused pain pills and it caused the surgery, I thought she most have had a complication due to constipation and her hernia but it was an ulcer. I thought prescription pain meds mostly use Tylenol combo because of its safety post surgery with bleeding. I would hate for the show to give the impression Ashley was a pain med addict when she just took too many advil. I guess I was thinking about his because my mom in the last week had a root canal and then needed emergency neurosurgery for a brain tumor. The dr's number one rule was no advil (my mom wanted it for her tooth) because of possible bleeding. They had to explain it to my mom over and over. I still wonder on this show how much is cut out. Do these patients get such little instruction about meds, diet and no counseling till a crisis? Did Ashley really have to wait 2 months till she left the hospital to see a counselor? We have a pretty bare bones hospital but there are still social workers that come and talk to any patients struggling with mental health issues.

Very sorry about your Mom, I hope she is recovering well from her surgery.

I assumed Ashley was abusing some kind of Tylenol 3 or stronger, but you are right Tylenol is safe for ulcers.  I hope the people on this show get far more information and care than what is shown.

  12. Aaaannnd, with Gideon's story, I am officially done with "My 600-Pound Life." Dottie took me to the edge, but Gideon pushed me over it.

These people. I don't know anyone that ignorant in my life, and it's brain cell-destroying to watch them gorge themselves, whine with self-pity, waddle, waddle, waddle, and lie to the doctor.

Also: contraception seems to be unknown to these people.

I see it more as people with serious psychological issues who have to change their entire lives. It's incredibly hard to give up lifelong coping mechanisms and daily behaviour.

Why don't they also have the right to have children, like everyone else?  For example, seeing how much Chad loved his children were some of the most heartwarming scenes this season.

  13. The edit wasn't good for Kayleigh, especially the lecturing that he has to be more healthy, while handing him huge plates of high fat food.  It seemed like she resented him a lot, which isn't good for the marriage.  I don't blame her though.

  14. Food is constantly delivered, Dottie was always starving. I mean Dottie knew the cameras and sister were coming, she could have eaten before they came or eaten something else while they were there. She insisted on the pizza and brownies, no? It doesnt sound like a producer manipulation to me.

    Agreed about the food.

I feel like Dottie really needed a friend or some other support instead of a personal attack from her sister.

It bothered me that her son is unable to consent to being filmed on tv like that.

  15. This was incredibly sad.  At least Dottie was aware she was using food like a drug.  I hope she helps her youngest son eat healthier, even if she can't.

It was convenient how her sister was there right when the food was delivered.

  16. I was ready for drama, but this episode was disappointing.   It was cringey when June was calling Dr. Now sweetheart and baby in one of the appointments.  However, a heart attack and stroke are pretty serious issues.

I would have liked to have seen what happened with Sadi at the end.
