Why do interviewers always ask dumb questions such as "What was it like to film that movie" or "What was it like to work with so-and-so"?  What kind of answers are they expecting?  They know what the answers will be, whether they are truthful or not.  Can't anyone think of an original question that is safe and inoffensive to ask?

Not too many Fulbright scholars pine for Red Carpet duty...

It didn't feel to me like Murphy was "going after" Cosby -- it was a pretty mild, truth-based joke, IMO.  Amy Poehler and Tina Fey were much harsher at the Golden Globes almost 5 years ago.

Agreed, it was pretty mild but it had the same effect as if Mickey Mantle publicly pissed on Joe DiMaggio's grave (that is if Joltin' Joe had been a convicted sex offender)

I'm almost suprised (but pleased) that they did so many classic characters with Eddie Murphy, after they've declined to do so recently with other multiple-time hosts.  Murphy coming back is a big deal though.

The jab at Cosby was interesting, but that whole Bill Cosby situation just makes me sad.

Liked Seeing Maya Rudolph back.  At least Rachel Dratch got a cheer this time, helps to put her on as the first guest.

I love the Buckwheat stuff, but I've always been a little surprised that they do it, because it seems like the kind of thing that some people would find offensive.   I even used to think that when they did it originally.  And when they rebooted the Little Rascals film.

I think there are a lot of comedians, perhaps more so in the black community but for anyone practicing the art, that will look at the riff with some sense of relief that Murphy just made it OK to go after Cosby. With both barrels if need be. Cosby's power and influence, which was considerable and yet already severely damaged was just rendered into a million glittery bits of cosmic dust. *poof*

That was an important moment and one when the clip is shown 20 years from now will be recognized as such at least in terms of comedic integrity. Hopefully the clip will be run as part of a double-feature along with Hannibal Buress.

Fallon AND Corden? Won’t they let Colbert play in their reindeer games? I’m not surprised when Fallon pops in but I was surprised to see  LA-based, non-NBC affiliated Corden there.

I suspect he's aiming for a little face time anywhere that will allow it to gin up some buzz about his appearance in the soon-to-be-released film of "Cats"

If I bother to see it the only thing I'll be thinking is "Doesn't that cat look like Boris Johnson?"

I was seven and remember watching the Watergate hearings with my grandparents.  The only time I ever heard them curse was at Nixon, they called him "the bastard".  I asked my grandfather the name of the "song" they were playing before the hearing.  Grampie said "It's called The Bastard is Doomed".  I never knew the real name, "March to the Scaffold", until now. 🙂

Thanks for the education Rachel and Freddi

I literally have tears running out my eyes from laughing so hard at this post.  Grampie obviously knew the brilliance and power of vivid, economic phrasing.  Thanks for passing along the story!

Many rarely used nicknames.  Rose City is more common.  I've lived 3 hours away and had an uncle who lived there for 85 years and friends down there and have never heard of Stumptown as a nickname.  I've a feeling that whoever named the original story used Google, not locals, to come up with the name.

Greg Rucka, creator of the Stumptown comic book, and his wife lived in Eugene, OR before moving to Portland where they currently reside. No Google required since he is a local.

As for the rarity of the name being used, there are literally dozens of businesses and entities with "Stumptown" in their name. A smattering:

    Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Stumptown Booth (they rent photo booths)

    Stumptown Disc Golf Club

Stumptown Printers Worker Cooperative (a print shop)

The Stumptown Cluster (an annual dog show)

    The Stumptown Gamecrafters' Guild

Don't get me started on lunch counters, strip clubs and beer names... 🙂
