  1. Thanks, Goth.

I'm all about a fashionable and well made handbag, but I'm too practical to pay more than $200 for one. I'm also not above buying a new or like-new handbag on EBay which is a far more economical way to get a nice brand without paying full retail. It's fun to win the bid too. :)

I'm so glad you said that!  I was beginning to think I was the only woman not spending thousands on shoes and bags.  I can't even conceive of spending $80,000 on any purse, even if I had that kind of money.  What is it made out of...the last surviving unicorn?

  2. I wasn't seeing anger or bipolar or anything except a rather large family having a fun trip.  It looks to me that they all had a ball.  Kate didn't lose her cool when the girls were arguing over the bunkbeds.  She left them alone to figure it out.  Nor did she freak out when a rainy day threw a wrench into her plans.  She re-grouped and came up with other activities.  This is a newer, more mellow Kate, and I'm liking her.

  3. This is what most bothers me about Kate Gosselin. She's one of those people who think saying they have OCD or a similar disease is cute. I absolutely hate people like that. OCD is not a joke. It can be absolutely debilitating for the person living with it, almost imprisoning them. It's not a cutesy little condition that gives off the impression that you're extremely neat and organized. A person who is afraid of germs wouldn't proudly admit to having a damned bird flying around and eating off her and her children's plates. Getting off my soapbox. Sorry for the rant.

I don't know if Kate has ever said that she has it.  I put that label on her under the "it takes one to know one" doctrine.  It's true that it can be debilitating for some.  Most of us figure out ways to deal with the things that panic us.  I used to not be able to eat out or use a public restroom.  I can handle it now that I'm older, plus I have my disposable toilet seat covers and lysol wipes with me. Symptoms often get less intense as you age.  Of my two grown children, one does just fine, but the other is at a stage where she has to have an even number of ice cubes in her glass, an even number of fries on her plate, etc.  So it can really vary.

  4. I wish they had some real project going on in their lives so we could avoid the road trips and the contrived meetings with other polygamists.  They should've invested some money into a real brick and mortar business instead of the online jewelry thing that's never going to take off.  I wonder if they believe the TLC gravy train will chug on forever.  For Pete's sake, get something set up now.  I seem to be more worried about their future than they are.

  5. This family has been marketing themselves for years,  I guess someone finally bit and gave them a show.  It also could be that Billy Brown's book "One Wave At a Time" caught a producer's attention, and things went from there.  I haven't read it but the Amazon reviews are good.

Being fake never stopped any other reality show.  I like watching Alaska the Last Frontier, but every time the narrator says something about how they won't make it through the winter if their hunt is unsuccessful, I'm thinking, "Or you could just drive up the road to the supermarket and get some food", because that is the real truth of the matter.

I don't believe all those grown sons truly live with their parents but don't know for sure.

  6. I enjoyed seeing the kids now that they're older and thought they all seemed to be having a great time.  Had my doubts about another road trip because Kate has generally not done well with that sort of thing.  I don't know if the passage of time has lessened the symptoms of her OCD or if she's on a medication that's working for her, but this Kate was relaxed and genuinely just enjoyed her kids without getting ruffled about anything.  It was a pleasure to watch.

    I'll duck now.

  7. I always liked "Money Money". I remember the days of trying to record their songs off the tv and telling everyone to be quiet so there wouldn't be any noise on the tape. LOL

Good times. The Monkees and The Partridge Family were my fave music to listen to. Actually, they still are.

I used to tape record songs off the radio, too.  I mean, I didn't have an unlimited amount of money to spend on 45's...they were 75 cents in those days.  I'm glad I'm not the only one who has Monkees and Partridge Family CDs in her car (which get played when no one else is around).  The music is still good.

  8. Actually in the comments of said article someone who knows the legal language used said fists were thrown, that Corey simply wasn't charged with battery along with the DV charge.

What I'm seeing in the comments is that  threatening to harm someone is the legal definition of assault.  If Corey had actually hit him, then it would be battery.  I don't know if the poster is correct about that or not, but it doesn't appear there was an actual beatdown.  I have to say that causing legal trouble for my son would definitely put a strain on my marriage if I were in Danielle's shoes.

  9. This is a site I found that has tons of genealogical info on the Allreds. This is why the Mormons have a rep for recordkeeping.

That is interesting, mimion.  So Christine's mother had 6 children.  I wonder if she still has contact with all of them since she left the AUB, and whether that might have anything to do with her moving in with Christine.  Kody said something about wanting to be with her grandchildren, but she must have other grandchildren (unless I'm reading those charts incorrectly).  Of course, it's possible she may just be closest to Christine.

  10. I'm curious about the timeline myself.  That oldest daughter has a few videos up on YouTube.  In one, from 2008, she talks about how they're touring the country to promote her dad's book.  She says they were in Nashville to sign a movie deal and were going back to Alaska to film a documentary based on the book, only this was back in 2008.  I guess the movie never happened.  I don't remember a documentary about them either.  In one video, she's on a riding lawnmower on what looks like a basic suburban house.  I wondered if that's where they really live.

  11. Thanks purpleflowers.  I tried to figure out their family tree when reading their book, but it gave me a headache.  All the inter-marriages are bad enough, but when you throw in all the re-marriages within the same group, it's mind-boggling.  For a group that believes in eternal marriage, they get divorced a lot.

  12. That is the night that is referred to as "GumGate". That is what kicked the whole thing off was a piece of gum.  That is also the night the WHOLE crew walked out and never went back.  Rumor was that she beat the crap out of him and destroyed several items in the house. (I said RUMOR-but I do believe something very bad happened because the crew walked out and refused to work with her again.)

By Kate's own written words, she has beaten her children.  She wrote about beating one of the boys (at that time-they were still in cribs) that she "beat him back to the crib.

I remember the episode where the child got gum on his stuffed animal.  Kate did over-react, but what parent hasn't had those extremely frustrating moments.

I don't believe any of the other things are true, and I'd like to know the source for all these rumors.  There's no indication that the camera crew ever walked out on her and refused to come back.  As far as that goes, any one of them were perfectly free to contact CPS if they saw those children being abused.  Hell, their own father could've done something about it if it had really been going on.

Kate hasn't admitted to beating her children unless you count spankings as beatings, and I realize people have different feelings about that.

I think with Kate there's a lot of unfounded rumors that originated on Gosselin "hate blogs" that get repeated as if they are fact.  I don't want to rehash all the unpleasantness that has gone on in the past on forums about her.  I neither love nor hate the woman, but I am interested in verifiable truth.

  13. I enjoy this show except for one thing...that obnoxious fart Donald Trump.  I hate how everyone kisses his ring and sucks up.  And that daughter of his.  Does she ever say anything to him besides "You did the right thing"?  Oh, I forgot, for variety there's always "I think you did the right thing".  (Ok, thanks for letting me get that off my chest)

I'd also like the competitions more if they were all skill and hustle based instead how many rich people you know.  At least, everyone would have a fair chance then.

Does anyone know why there's underlying hostility between Brandi and Kenya?  Some backstory I don't know about?

  14. I think that baby turned because the writers couldn't resist the impulse to have a cool ninja-like zombie baby show up.  I watched that scene over several times on slow-mo just to freeze the frame on it.  That infant was awesome as a zombie.

    • Love 3
  15. They never did explain how that baby turned into a zombie.  Did it get bitten during the fight when no one was looking or maybe bitten before they found it?

I think you'll enjoy the series.  There were a couple of dud episodes, but overall pretty good without being overly grim, mostly due to Doc's sense of humour.

    • Love 1
  16. I actually found it more interesting than I thought it would be.  Kinda odd that it's just a one-off show, maybe they were feeling it out for a series?

I actually loved Tom(?)! - the single dude. He had great humor.  Didn't mind the other guy (the couple that lost baby stella) but the OTHER guy.. OMGGGGGGGGGGG you can not go out with your wife and then constantly comment on how hot other guys are.  It's not ok for a straight guy to do that with other women when his wife is around and it's not ok for the wife to do it - as much as you say you enjoy it and can look at guys together.... DENIAL DENIAL DENIAL.  And he's going on a camping trip with guys he barely knows... and there was an 'incident' some years ago when guys spent the night at their house and things got 'a little out of hand'.  His wife is slowly dying inside trying to keep that happy face.

The red-headed couple?  It seemed to me that his wife was egging him on in regard to the waiter, which was weird.  It did make me wonder what happened that night his friends slept over.  Yeah, that camping trip isn't a good idea if he wants to keep his marriage intact.  I'm going to vote them least likely to succeed at fooling themselves for very much longer.

  17. Am I the only one on Christine's side? Or should I say monogamy's side, because this episode is exactly why I call bullshit on their sales pitch on the wonders of polygamy, that love should be "multiplied," and that their sister wives support eachother. The opposite was on display tonight. If you have one wife or significant other, their feelings matter more to you, and there's more at stake when you mistreat, or even disagree with them. Christine wasn't saying that Kody's friend Ken wasn't entitled to his opinion, she was hurt that he insulted their way of life, and Kody laughed it off, even though she, his wife, was deeply offended. He dismisses and ridicules her feelings, and that's not ok in any relationship. Then seeing all the wives rolling their eyes and laughing at her was even more heartbreaking. But Kody, in particular, does this all the time because he's a selfish prick, and because he simply can. If he gets into an argument with one wife, he can simply shrug it off, call it PMS (he does this next week), and walk away, into the arms of wife #2, or #3, or #4. That's polygamy, and it doesn't sound so great for anyone but the King. They all always say that they vote on things, and all have a say. That's bullshit. It's the Kody Show. Always.

That's the thing that bugged me.  When Christine left Kody and the other wives at that table, it was obvious she was very upset.  Not only did Kody not go after her, the other three wives sit there laughing.  Kody doesn't ever have to pay the piper when his wife is angry because he's got three others who will cluster around him and prop him up. I guess it's good to be the king.

  18. This isn't a series?  Oh, well.  It was pretty interesting to me, although maybe it should've been called "Gay or Not?  We're Not Sure."  The men rating every guy they see on their "danger scale" seemed like hazardous behaviour to me.  Like being on a diet, but constantly talking about cake and ice cream and hanging out in front of the bake shop window.  This isn't something I could live with as a wife.

I ended up having mixed feelings about the show.  It's easy to say the men are just in denial, but don't we all know of people who lived a hetero/homo life for a while, and then "switched" to the other side?  I think it's probable that, for some people, sexual attraction may be more fluid than others depending on the circumstances.  I've always been hetero, but let's say I was in prison for a long time.  I'm sure I might swing the other way. Oh, hell, I'm thinking too much.

  19. "Steve being around" isn't the same thing as cavorting with Kate in the master bedroom while poor Jon sleeps in the basement.  Steve was around because TLC hired him as a bodyguard.

Here's what Hoffman says in his book about Jon:  "I like Jon Gosselin---a lot.  He's my friend.  I've traveled with him and partied with him and have been with him through his highest highs and his lowest lows."  It would be hard to feel this way about Jon and to have a good opinion of Kate.

I believe there was only ever a photo of a wooden spoon and never any photo or video of Kate hitting any of the children.

At any case, I don't want to ignite an argument about whether everyone should like or hate Kate.  Mileage may vary and all that.

  20. I was surprised this show got another season.  I didn't think anyone else besides me had watched it!

Junice was right about all that carrying on and praising Jesus for a new Bentley.  It was ridiculous, but these people seem to truly believe that wealth is personally arranged by the Lord.  So what does that say about your average person like me who can never afford a car like that?  Jesus doesn't love me as much as the Tankards?  I understand perfectly now why Junice had to move away from them to save her own sanity.

I still don't have all the kids figured out and who they belong to.  Am I right that Ben and Jewel don't have any children from their marriage and that all "the juveniles" are from prior relationships?
