I think even the cheating on Mary could be subjective. Sheldon may not have seen what he thought he saw. George and Mary could have been role playing with Mary in a wig for instance.

There is also the references Sheldon makes to his father's girlfriend trying to buy his love with action figures.  Sheldon may be naïve and have misinterpreted some of the things he has said but that, to me, seems pretty clear.  At some point George does cheat on Mary and appears to be having an affair of long enough standing that the kids meet his 'girlfriend'.

To each one's own but I think I'd rather have had  a caretaker who actually WANTED to take care of me as a child than one who just felt they were obligated to but took little if any joy in doing so. Hence, in THAT particular facet, I think Marie was far more preferable than Debra, Ray or Frank.

For little Ray maybe.  For Robert who was ignored from the day little Ray came home from the hospital, not so much.  Ignoring or smothering - either extreme has consequences which I think ELR was very good about showing.  Neither of the boys as adults was without some issues!

A cooking program that one would imagine would be more entertaining and educational than it actually is upon viewing, IMO.

I've been watching the Food and Cooking Channel a lot lately and I have to say there are actually very few of these shows that I could see myself getting into on a regular basis.  Some I liked better than others (I kind of like Ina Garten and Valerie) but most of the others while they had their moments, were mostly kinda annoying if you watch too many episodes!  One show I do like (and is new to me) is Good Eats, with Alton Brown. So here's another unpopular opinion - I like Alton Brown 😊.

Idk, I found Debra to be a much more realistic and better parent than Marie.

Agreed.  Within the limitations of a show that tried not to over focus on the kids (those kids had to be the quietest, best behaved, longest nappers!! kids in the world) I felt they did convey that Debra was a loving and involved parent; that Robert was a loving and involved uncle ; and that Ray was a father who should have been parenting kids in the 1950s when it was acceptable (or seemed to be) for Dad to pat the kids on the head in passing once in awhile but otherwise leave all the parenting to Mom.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Sheldon is officially in the class and getting credit for it. I have no idea how the financing is going for it. If the college is letting him take it for free or what.

I can't remember what happens in the episode where the college is trying to recruit George Sr but for some reason I had the impression they were offering Sheldon a free ride if he were to go there.  It wouldn't suprise me at all to learn that they were offering him this class tuition free as well.  It would be very prestiigous for most schools to have someone like Sheldon attending.  They can't know for sure of course if his life long trajectory really will include a Nobel Prize and towns named after him as he assumes but they have to know he's destined for great things and they want to be part of that.

Sure, I get that...but don't forget that Sheldon is the variable in the equation, not the "real" college students. Mary can't expect everyone and everything to adapt for him, instead of vice versa.

PS - Love your username! I inherited a few Beany books from my mom's collection as a young teen 😀

Agreed - but I think it's becoming more and more clear that Sheldon isn't just the variable in terms of being a kid and not a full-time college student but also a genius that the college wants to cultivate for its own benefit.  That's bound to influence anything that happens from here on out.

re: my name -  thanks! I got mine from my mother as well. I adore those books - I'd really rather grow up to be Mary Fred but Beany will always be dear to my heart 😊

Sure, but the other 2 students are enrolled in the college and taking the course for credit.  Sheldon is only there as a special treat.  The college students shouldn't have to turn their schedules inside out to accommodate him.

Absolutely agreed and if the show wasn't called Young Sheldon they probably wouldn't have 😉.   But I think Mary was acknowledging she was asking a special favour when she offered laundy facilities and provided food.  I expect Mary has a few more years ahead of her of trying to make sure Sheldon gets the education he needs while still being protected the way any parent would want to protect a child Sheldon's age,

With regard to considering taking this class as a special treat - I agree from Sheldon's POV that's true - but considering the university is already trying to make sure Sheldon continues to go there when he's ready to attend full-time that they are very aware that Sheldon is "one of God's special  little people".  I suspect they would be prepared to be very accommodating where he is concerned in Stugis's class.

If Mary felt uncomfortable with Sheldon hanging out in the dorms, the correct compromise would have been suggesting they meet at the library or some other common area on campus, not their house.

I would only be comfortable with that compromise if I was still nearby.  And if I am going have to sit for hours in a library or other area on campus but can choose to be in my own home instead I know which choice I'd be making!

She did everything for Raymond and nothing for Robert. She couldn't give a crap about him.

I don't disagree that Raymond was clearly her favourite, but some of my favourite moments in ELR are the times when Marie does step up and you realize how much she does care about Robert.  Mind you 5 minutes later she ruins the moment!  But they happened.

I find her intensely annoying and change the channel immediately upon spotting her presence.  But that's what tv remotes are for.

Yep.  I totally get not liking a TV personality or a show.  What I don't get are the people who go out of their way to create their own website to trash said TV personality or show.   You couldn't pay me to watch Diners, Drive Inns and Dives (well you could but it would have to be a LOT of money) but I don't care enough to try and influence anyone else not to watch and to spread mostly false stories about him!

Was anyone else a bit sad to see Georgie and Sheldon actually bonding, knowing how hard they'll fall out in the future?

What I find sad, and try not to focus on, is that it's kind of obvious from BBT that Sheldon has a rough number of years coming up between leaving the relative security of his family until he meets Leonard and eventually Amy.  He is a very lonely young man for a few years there.

  12. Oh god, the credit karma one with the two young women having lunch and talking about the apartment one of them has just seen. "Dude"  "Dude"  kill me, kill me now.  And if that isn't irritating enough the one who desperately wants the apartment tells the other one when asked if she applied for it "oh I'll do it this afternoon".  But "dude" and "dude" are snarling at others and insisting "that apartment is MINE".  Ugh...

I do however like the kitchen porn.  Even though it is apparently the bunkhouse kitchen and not her private one, I love the space (and the cavernous pantry).  I want that kitchen, and the budge that supports it.

Yep, she makes no secret that she is not cooking in her own house, I forgot what they call the place but it's somewhere on the ranch.  And the ranch is the reason I've watched the show.  I don't want to own or live on a cattle ranch (well not since I was about 12 and horse mad) but I love the wide open spaces and the while having to drive to get anywhere would pall after a time I do envy that they have so much land.  When they show scenes of the sunsets and the vistas, wow.

  14. I wish this show was on a channel that I get.  I totally went off Roseanne (the actress and the show) when she had her twitter meltdown but now that The Connors is doing well and she seems to have quieted down - or anyway no one is paying any attention to her -  I'd love to see this show again.  At least before it went to hell in a handcart - which I kind of date from when Becky (original recipe) ran off with Mark.  There were good episodes after that but for me it was never the same.

Also that she is "Pioneer Woman" but was raised in country-club land and lived in LA before she married into a multi-million $$$$ family, so

That's the kind of criticism I find really off base to be honest.  I read a big diatribe against her awhile ago saying in essence how dare she talk about making economical meals when she's rich.  If that's a valid critique of her show then most of the food network people need to start looking for another gig! PW as far as I've ever seen makes no effort to pretend she doesn't live a pretty sweet life - she buys buildings and turns them into stores and hotels for one thing! Aside from PW  Ina Garten and Giada are about the only ones I can think of offhand who don't make much effort to hide their privileged lifestyles!

  16. I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately to this show. A friend was downsizing and gave me the full series on DVD.  I can't believe I missed this show when it was in first run!  My only excuse is we were living in England until 2009 but I'm sure it must have been shown over there too.  Oh well anyway am enjoying this show very much.  If anyone else has the DVDs I'd recommend watching the bloopers and the scenes that ended up getting cut.   Very funny stuff!

I never understood the animus towards Pioneer Woman.

Yeah I don't get it either.  I don't watch her show very often but when I do it seems pretty innocuous.  There are other Food Channel personalities I find way more annoying than her (ahem Guy Fiero).  I've discovered the solution to not liking someone is not creating a website devoted to hating them it's not watching their show!  Problem solved 😀.

  18. Ottermommy, I'd recommend anything by Richard Peck!  He's wrote wonderful books for teens.  Probably best known for the Blossom Culp books (the first of which had a movie based on it by Disney).
