  1. Yep. Lots of shows are like that. I remember back when Big Bang Theory was still in first run and people would come to the forums here to bitch about each episode. Every single week. Which is fine - except they'd also be saying "when will they cancel this mess". Well not when the ratings are high that's for sure!
  2. I was mad at the guy because, well jerk. But I was madder at the cashier. She knew that guy had no right to cut in front of a line of customers and instead of telling him to go wait his turn she gives him priority over the rest of us? I always wondered if anyone else walked out as well but, hey we're Canadian so I'm betting not.
  3. Ugh I'm having a flashback to Christmas. All us nice polite ladies have formed a line waiting for our turn at the cash, finally I'm next and some man comes up out of nowhere and goes to the counter. And the cashier - who knew damn well where the line was started to process his order. I stepped forward and said "I believe I was next" and the man gets all exaggeratedly polite and says "well by all means go ahead" as if he's doing me a huge favour. And the cashier is looking apologetic AT HIM. I dropped my stuff on the counter and walked out. I still get mad when I think about this.
  4. This would be an interesting topic for them to pursue on The View. But they won't because it all ends in screaming and them talking over each other instead of making valid points. Maybe I'm looking back through rose coloured glasses but I feel they used to discuss issues and make points without things deteriorating into mayhem.
  5. Agreed and I don't see it as bashing to make this point. If they were tied neck and neck I'd feel differently about this but not the way things are now. They're being realistic about his chances.
  6. I'm not positive but I think she was referencing that the Trump administration cut the pandemic response team. Claim: The Trump administration fired the U.S. pandemic response team in 2018 to cut costs.
  7. Does anyone know whose voice is doing the WealthSimple commercials? Upperclass British woman. Sounds so familiar to me but I can't tell if it's because I recognize the specific voice or if she just sounds like someone I feel I should know.
  8. There's a commercial on for McDonalds right now with a song with a '50s vibe playing in the background - can't remember it offhand (despite having heard it roughly a million times in the last week or so - ok maybe slight exageration). Anyway I don't mind it too much but it's driving my husband crazy. It comes on and we have to mute the TV or I get treated to his trademark speech on obnoxious music in commercials (also heard roughly a million times)!
  9. Maybe. Or else like most experienced Moms - well aware of when to jump in and when to back off.
  10. Not sure if this is a pet peeve or not but it's annoying the hell out of me. Our local oldies radio channel spent the morning of International Women's Day playing songs by female singers. Big whoop, right? Not for some. Guys (and some women too sadly) complained that they never have time set aside just to play songs by guys so major double standard. Sweet jesus. Seriously?
  11. But, but they were wood! Honestly we just bought recently and we bought despite, not because, the previous owners painted perfectly nice oak cabinets a shiny green. Sigh. I get it if the cabinets are stained or damaged in some way and you can't afford to replace them. But when there was nothing wrong with the cabinets why can't people just leave them alone?
  12. Rewatched and I don't know how I missed this line: "Did you make this taste bad so Dad would lose weight?" Seriously laughed out loud. Upon rewatching I stand by my opinion that Sheldon was right in the sense that his contribution deserved more than a thank you in a foot note however, and that's a big however he also did not deserve co-authorship credit. I liked that the Ed Begley Jr character made that clear to Sheldon because it really wasn't enough for it to come from Dr Sturgis who obviously could have been biased. Have to add that Iain Armitage is an awesome little actor. His face at the end when Dr Sturgis told him he didn't want him in his class anymore - wow. You could see the hurt and confusion and realization that he blew it all there in that moment,
  13. Finally watching this episode - only a few minutes in and I've had one hearty laugh (when Sheldon calls Meemaw to see if she's dead) and one moment where I rolled my eyes (as a librarian I was not impressed at the suggestion that taking books out of the library was some how a terrible thing that you only do as a last resort!). Ok saw it all. Excellent episode, I noticed as well that the university paid for the trip because they want to keep Sheldon as a student. I think that answers the question that has been posed a few times as to what Sheldon's status at the university is. He is not just auditing a course - if they aren't paying (and I don't know if we are ever told that they are or are not) it doesn't really matter. The university recognizes that Sheldon is someone they want to keep around.
  14. It can get you through a door but it can only go so far. I can't speak for any of her other titles but her book for girls called "Rock What You've Got" is one I would highly recommend to anyone who has tween or teen daughters.
  15. Absolutely agree that he is not entitled to co-authorship but I'll have to watch this episode again because my impression was that his contribution was significant enough that Sturgis could not have published without his help. To me that does suggest Sheldon deserves more recognition than a footnote but maybe I'm remembering it wrong.
  16. Sheldon isn't a physicist yet, He's still years away from that. Which is one of the reasons his behavior is only excusable because he is still a child. Adult Sheldon doing the same thing would be a whole 'nother kettle of fish. That said Sturgis behaved badly too IMO. Sheldon did make a significant contribution and he deserved more credit than he appears to be getting.
  17. Which is also a strong indicator that Sheldon, for all his brain power, is still a kid. Studies show that one of the biggest reasons adolescents make bad choices is because their brains haven't developed. In effect they think with their emotions. Adults who interact with Sheldon who think just because he's super smart that must mean he can be reasoned with as an adult are going to be disappointed. It's really not up to Sheldon to set the boundaries and expectations - that's up to the adults, as you point out his parents and Connie, but also the professors and administrators at the university. They want the cachet of having the genius kid so they're going to have to figure out how to deal with that kid. I honestly don't think that falls on the kid.
  18. I had very little sympathy for Ramona and I doubt she would have had a leg to stand on if she'd complained to anyone. Unlike young Sheldon and Dr Sturgis she didn't actually contribute anything to the paper. Also she didn't just want shared credit she wanted to have her name as part of the theorum. That was never going to fly! Sure she made Sheldon buckle down but you don't get academic credit for that you get a dedication in the front of a book!
  19. The absolutely wonderful Beverly Cleary will be celebrating her 104th birthday this April. It's not all that unusual anymore for people to reach and exceed the 100 yr mark.
  20. And with regard to washing your hands, for the most part this advice is for when you have potentially come into contact with a contaminated surface. You really don't need to be continually washing or purelling your hands in your own home! I've got friends who are constantly washing their hands now. First that's not going to make any difference if you would never have been infected in the first place but second you're going to have a lot of problems with irritated skin if you aren't careful. I've got a fair few family members and friends who are in the nursing profession and they will be the first to tell you that constant handwashing and sanitizing does a real number on your hands!
  21. Emotionally Sheldon is very young for his age. He isn't going to react maturely to most situations and the situation in this episode was no exception. That doesn't make Sheldon right - it makes Sheldon, Sheldon. He needs guidance but there is only so much any adult can do to change the basic character of the children they are responsible for. That's another aspect of this show that I really enjoy come to think of it. I've been around kids similar to Sheldon (by no means as bright though) and for the most part there is only so much you can do to help them smarten the hell up!
  22. I actually really like the episodes that remind us that Sheldon is still just a little boy. Sure he's a genius but he's also only 10 yrs old fercrryingoutloud. It's also good to me that the writers are creating in Young Sheldon the Sheldon he will one day become. To do otherwise would be a big mistake IMO. But of course it does mean they have to walk a fine line.
  23. I got married in a Catholic church in Canada in the early '80s and the only condition the church imposed on us was that we take a few classes with the priest along with a few other engaged couples - sort of a marriage counselling thing to prove we were ready for marriage. Shockingly our priest recommended we not rush the baby production 😊.
  24. I had children but when I went out for an evening, especially one that was going to cost a few $$ the kiddies stayed home. I was less than impressed if I was in a relatively high end restaurant especially later in the evening and there were kids running around the place. Sure, definitely some kids behave better than others (just like some adults) but even so, time and place people, time and place!
  25. I hate those commercials too and I really don't get it. The commercials make it sound like you can sell your house through Purple Bricks and they will do everything and it won't cost you anything. I know they don't take a commission but they have to be charging you something. Especially if they are the ones doing open houses, showing your house and drawing up paperwork.
