Amazing how that is, isn't it? She's all about women remaining home and yet she's out there working, doing interviews and other stuff. If that's how she thinks it should be then why isn't she at home? Also, conveniently ignores the rights she's against are the very ones that allow her to be out.

In a patriarchy, benefits always, always, always redound to women who espouse the status quo and work to harm other women. It's part of the structure of misogyny.

Villanelle better not have an ecstatic look on her face like Aaron did in tonight’s season finale. Because being murdered, especially by someone you’re into, probably sucks.

Honestly, I loved that moment. For an instant, Peele wasn't bored

  3. The sad thing is, I actually know the distinction between lamb/shepherd and beef/cottage pies. When I make it, though, I usually use ground turkey, just to Stick It To The Man. 😉Sometimes even tempeh! Take that!

Both pronunciations are common in the states but I believe only the former is accurate.

I've only ever seen it as 'worcestershire', like so:

  4. Both Nico and V called it 'worcester' sauce. I guess that's a UK thing? Is it only 'worcestershire' sauce here stateside? (BTW, that is the ingredient that makes it shepherd's pie-y, other than just a ground-beef braise.)

  5. And now we learn Carolyn fences. And brings her fencing club to the workplace, apparently. (Unless it's the fencing club of MI6, which I totally believe exists.) My love for these little character notes is boundless. Boundless, I say!

Jess keeps rubbing her belly. When characters do that on soap operas a lot of the  viewers who've been pregnant post annoyed comments about it and say it's not something women generally do IRL. So I wonder, why are they highlighting Jess' pregnancy?

One of the ways I know a colleague or friend is pregnant is that they start resting their hands on their bellies (even when they're not showing). I think (and I have nothing to base this on, truly) is that women are really socialized to not put their hands on their stomachs, because it draws the eye, and omg maybe they'll notice we're fat!!! So when a fetus is on board, it's an unconscious signal: nope, not fat, preggers. Especially among show-biz women, for whom an extra bit of padding could kill their careers.

I was super coveting that multicolored jacket V was wearing early in the show.

The psychopath teacher is doing double duty by playing Thenadier over on Les Miserables a few channels over.  I like Adeel Akhtar. He's value-added to a cast.

  7. Of all the awful things Villanelle does, the thing that made me full-body cringe was the shouting in the museum. Oh!! How could she?!?  (Yes, this says way more about me than it does about V or the show. I accept this.)

I'm picturing the director with Zoe Wanamaker (C's boss): yes, sure, let's do a take, no 'out-there' is too far this time, 'kay? And then the fabulous textural contrast with Shaw's frosty-bored calm response. Oh yes, ho-hum all in hand. That's spectacular structure.

Glad to see V back in fancy clothes again. I'm happier when I'm coveting all the wardrobes.

Which does not allow her to practice law in the US.

And you don't need to have passed the bar to appeal to the MMPA -- they are not a court of law, for heaven's sake. They're not a federal agency, even. They're just a small association staffed with stodgy old white dudes who have been accorded a power that theater-owners accede to, even though they don't actually have to. They don't change ratings much, because doing so would clue folks in that they don't actually have real authority -- being rigid props up the illusion.  (TV content warnings do a better, more comprehensive job informing viewers what they can expect, with a lot less prudish judginess.)

  9. Not for nothing @ams1001, but have you ever had your clotting factor checked? That seems extreme, both in causation and in duration.

I watched The Bodyguard and enjoyed it, but I have to say I don't understand why it was such a success. The reason for the whole thing was kind of dumb, I thought, and not very creative.

I think UKers have a tabloidy fascination with the sex lives of their pols. This, I think, extends to fictional ones. Plus Hawes's character was closely related in age to the woman who was Home Secretary (and has a different cabinet position now).
