  1. Why would anyone want that much junk food in their home. Donuts are not healthy. They are deep fried and full of sugar. However this type of behavior, getting stuff for free, is being handed down. Sadly, crispy creme will not do this again without limiting the number of boxes of donuts. I know they think that what they did was wonderful, even before giving some away, however I think it was a desperate attempt for publicity and pathetic.

  2. I'm from MA as well. Boston area. Way back in the dark ages, when the only thing around AOL I was active in a number of parenting/ step parenting boards.I did not use my children's real names so I called them different kinds of herbs. The herb thing stuck with the play of having neither time nor thyme.

  3. This religious exemption thing is not true. The TTH house property does not have a religious exemption listed against it. They pay about $7,500 a year to the county in tax for the property. Keep in mind it is is a rural/urban fringe property across the road from the town landfill.

Religious tax exemptions are very easy to get. You really have to watch this video and you will get an idea. John Oliver actually opens his own church.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Televangelists (HBO)

U.S. tax law allows television preachers to get away with almost anything. We know this from personal experience.

Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption will not be able to accept donations from Church supporters from the states of Mississippi, Nevada,

  4. Can you imagine if this scandal hit first while the show was still on tv? I imagine the ratings surge would be huge! I feel bad for any wife finding out that her husband has been having an affair. What makes this really creepy is that this is an online affair for the purpose of sex. He paid for it! What makes it even worse is that the whole world knows about it, how humiliating. I feel bad for Anna. I hope that this isn't seen as a failing on Anna to keep her man sexually satisfied.  I wonder if Josh had a normal upbringing with school and male friends who hid in the shed reading Playboy, had a few girlfriends and wasn't forced into marriage if his life would have turned out to be normal. The same for the other children in the family. I can't imagine being raised as a Duggar or in that climate.

  5. WANDERWOMAN, more of a lurker but a sometimes poster and you and Maisie are the reason why I am here!

I Popped into this forum right after she was born and just kept coming back to follow your progress. Started reading all about the Duggars and still haven't ever seen more than 20 minutes of one show. The group of posters here are just so wonderful. I am so sad this is happening to you and your daughter, neither of you deserve it at all. I still remember when you called your husband your rock and I was so happy to know that you had him by your side. After reading your recent post I immediately thought of this country western song you should play to him....

Just really hope that both of you get through this together.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to work through their sexual abuse on TV with people who know nothing about counseling. Too many people experience something and think they are experts in that area. I have too much respect for therapists and the training they receive to being to think that they have any understanding of the trauma of abuse and how to help other through it.

"This Society persists in believing that children participating in the media are a protected Class; that a portion of their income is protected, that their work hours are limited, and their education is provided by their employers. It’s just not true.

....Here’s the rub. In Arkansas where the Duggar Family is produced there are Laws on the books that might have prevented the filming of this highly suspect family. But the Laws were ignored and went unenforced to this day. ....Where are the work permits, because they’re required? What are the terms of employment and what official reviewed them?

    "...This is official neglect.

If the minimal protections we imagine are extended to the most visible children in our culture had been present in the real Arkansas world then even a cursory background check of the Duggar family would have revealed the tawdry truth about this holier-than-thou example of reality television’s unceasing need to focus on the 'unusual, the freakish, the abnormal.'

"Did we learn nothing from the deliberately fabricated broadcasts of “John & Kate + 8?” How many times do we have to witness the unraveling of a famous television family before we demand common-sense action?

"...The First Amendment was not crafted to protect the parent and producers involved in collaborative products that utilize minors. A novelist, a painter, a sculptor or a pamphleteer is, as an individual, by definition protected in his or her right to free expression. Not so the parent who sells their off-spring into the maw of popular entertainment. Not so the people involved in the wide-spread dissemination of the culturally-biased portrayal of childhood.

"...Children in reality television deserve more protections than their counterparts in professionally- produced entertainment product, and as we’ve proven beyond any reasonably doubt, professional children are deliberately, woefully, dangerously under-protected."

This explained everything so clearly regarding salary and how children are forced to work for free but most importantly without ANYONE looking after their interests. The State of Arkansas and every state should enforce the rules they have in place for children. However, more regulations need to be developed to make sure that children who are filmed get some of the salary so they aren't used as cash cows for their parents. Plus they should only be allowed in front of the cameras for a certain number of hours a week and they get to decide if they want to be filmed.

  8. I am not familiar with TV contracts. Is it possible that you and Derek has already signed a contract with TLC to move to Nepal and do a spinoff. Would being a victim of abuse be a reason that would allow TLC to cancel the spinoff? If not TLC might have to pay them for not working

  9. I imagine that the mission in Nepal is the spin off. Why wouldn't they go if they have their own show? They would be paid far more than regular missionaries, there would be a crew along that could help them out and I am sure they will be made very comfortable. The mission would get exposure and definitely lots of contributions from viewers. Nepal probably doesn't have the laws we have here about filming people from whom you do not have permission. So I would imagine that we would see some of the people they are helping and filming without their consent. They could have Jessa holding down the fort in the USA. Having her baby and stuff surrounding that. The Duggars could take a trip over there on TLC's dime. This is just my speculation. Does it mean the same if you are paid 30,000 per episode to be a missionary?

  10. I predict that they are going to kill this. I believe it has been carefully scripted among the family. They will show how upset they were and how they did everything they could to protect the girls and the girls will agree. This is the fight of their lives. I haven't ever seen the show, only 20 minutes of Josh's wedding. However, I object to them and their show because of their cult like religion and Jim Bob's total control of everything and everyone along with the teachings of Gothard especially hitting 6 month babies with wooden spoons. Sometimes I even feel bad for Michelle as I don't think she really has any choice about anything in her life being married to Jim Bob.

  11. Sadly, I really think she is going to play up it up as backlash from liberals and anti Christians. The reason she will do this so she can get people to believe that if they are upset with the Duggars then they are Christian hating liberals. I truly believe the plan is to tell people why they are wrong to feel as they do in a very calculated and strategic manner. It will work on some people. Not sure why the Duggars are so important to Fox. They supposedly don't even watch tv.

  12. When Steven Collin's abuse came to light all episodes of Seventh Heaven were pulled from syndication. The same for Bill Cosby. The same thing should happen to this show. Were they filming the show when this broke? Did TLC know about it? If so they should lose their broadcast license. Josh will be ostracized by everyone. Feel a bit sorry for everyone involved except the parents, they are total jerks.

  13. I've loved this season so far. Superb acting and stories. Love the show being more ensemble than Jenny focused but liked it very much when it was. I read awhile ago they are getting stories from other midwives. Look forward to this show.
