    I always thought that Tom and Edith would make good match. However, I know it isn't going to happen. So happy to see Gwen as she was a favorite. She made me realize how much I also miss Sybil.

    Hoping for a sweet ending for Mrs Patmore. Either she goes with Daisy or she finds love with someone like the police officer. I like Daisy, she needs a Sybil to help her.

    You don't have to imagine it, you just described Saudi Arabia. And every other ultra-Conservative Islamic society.

     

    The likes of Huckabee and the Duggers, I always think, really want Christian sharia.

     

    We can hope 60 Minutes is working on a Gothard expose.

    Vernicious thank you for clearly pointing this out. In all honesty, I was a bit nervous to come out and say that they want woman to live like many are forced to live in some Middle Eastern countries. I truly think that they use some of the same recruitment techniques used to convert people to extremist groups. It is brainwashing. When people are forced to blindly follow another person, to accept what they are told without question, are actually punished if they begin to question it is brainwashing. That is how the Duggar children have been raised. What makes it worse is that the Duggars makes their money spotlighting their family and their beliefs. Even if the parents wanted to go back to how they were raised they can't as everything they've built is due to the life they publicly portray. They are in with the right wing politicians and are celebrities in their religion. The truth is the more publicity they get the more money their home church gets from supporters plus the money from TLC. JB is a very rich and sly man. He has built an small empire with multiple houses and businesses as well as a couple of planes. I am surprised 60 minutes or some group hasn't done an expose of them, their religion and laws.

    I'm not sure either. I really know nothing except we have comcast, yet we were a Neilsen family, and they wanted us to do it again. And it was clear to them we had cable.

    I assume that some or maybe all advertisers want the numbers verified by an independent body which is what Nielsen provides.

    I don't know about cable "boxes" anymore, but I am almost positive a cable company's TiVo (or whatever their DVR brand is - might not be TiVo), is tracking what you watch. That's how they know X amount of people watch a show "live", who forwards through commercials, and get what they call the "fast national" ratings. I think they track anything up to minimum 7 days, and I've seen people argue/say it's closer to 10 days. They may even be able to tell if you're fast forwarding through commercials/storylines.

    Cable knows everything you do. I am an Amazon Prime member and often watch Amazon original shows. Amazon knows which shows people watch through their internet connection.

    When non viewers mobilize to organize a boycott, isn't the aim essentially to prevent actual viewers from watching?

    I found the old show to be entertaining, but also very banal. I just can't comprehend how continuing their inane adventures, e.g. with a trip to a lumber yard, is in any way threatening or harmful to anyone.

       

            It isn't the trip to the lumber yard that is harmful. In my opinion it is the way of life that the Duggars encourage and live. We do not need woman treated like second class citizens who live in a third world country. Nor should we hold their lifestyle in any esteem. Can you really imagine what our country would be like if EVERYONE homeschooled their children? If ALL woman had to cover their knees and elbows in public, had to have an accountability partners, parents chaperone all dates, read all your texts, no alone time to get to know your fiancé, no real dates. Blanket training or as I call it beating a toddler. No reading the newspaper/TV or understanding the world they live in. Side hugs.Their beliefs in my opinion are nothing short of dangerous . There are people who LOVE these people and their life and so they join the Duugars church or find another extreme fundy group to join.  I could go on...  That is why I don't want them on TV

    I hope that Anna wasn't coerced into visiting Josh during her fertile time. I really do not think these people care one

    bit about her other than the fact that her purpose in life is to give birth. They know that a new pregnancy would help ratings. Still haven't watched a show.


     

     

    Plus, I mean, the point of a boycott is to send a message to the company. If you're not a Nielsen family, your consumption doesn't really matter in that sense, I'd think? Which is another reason why I don't think the Duggar boycott will work; how many of the people pledging to boycott are Nielsen families? 

     

           They can get ratings because they know what you watch on your cable TV. You no longer have to be a Nielsen family.

    No. As a condition of coming onboard full time, Mark made them drop that requirement.

    I agree with this. However, I think it should be modified that if the product receives the offer they have put forth and they reject it than they are obligated to give a percentage to the producers. I really think she was there for publicity only.

    I would not want my children eating off of silicone. I got some silicone pans for Christmas and refuse to cook in them. I assume she says it is dishwasher safe but after it has been through a number of washes is it really? I believe she was on for publicity and it is working. Doesn't Shark Tank producer still get a percentage?

    Mary was the only one in jeans. They all wear jeans in the British version.

    The bakers had far less experience than the British bakers. Far less imaginative in their cookie flavors.

    Since they aren't near their homes they had to find people who could leave for a period of time. If they continue that format it will be a different group of bakers. Mary is 80.I'm sure she wouldn't enjoy a lot of travel.

    Ha. It's exactly the kind of thing my sister would do, but I wouldn't change the name. It's giving her too much power. I'd find some other way to get back at her.

    (Kidding -- maybe.)

    My sister was in the deliver room with my husband. He said he wanted to be the one that called and told my mother. My sister did not get it, really she thought he was being controlling. Ended up with a c section and she was not in the operating room. I can't even remember who called whom at this point.

    I've always took the comments about how Michelle must be on drugs with a pinch of salt, like haha, yeah she's so weird she could be. But seriously, that call? I don't even know what that was. It's like the operator has to pull the answers out of her. No trace of panic or even concern in her voice. Searching for answers to simple questions.  She really sounds drugged out of her mind.

    I'm feeling rather cynical about this. Do you think it might be a made up drama to increase public interest and get more publicity? I did not listen to the call but read the article quoting Michelle and it sounds as if the drama has paused when she says they want her checked out as she passed quite a bit of blood.

    Everyone has moved on and I am sort of in shock. Just read about WW. I haven't read every post as there are so many pages!  I am so sad as I don't want it to be true. I have 2 questions to ask and if the response is somewhere in the last 15 pages please don't make me go looking as I tried. 1.) Is WW and the person who asked for money for school supplies the same person or is the school supply person still a regular poster?  If she is I do not mean to imply she is not a real person! When Absolom posted her warning I was trying to decide which of the two she was talking about.  2.) Was someone able to run the supposed picture of Maisie and found out it was a stock picture?   

     

    WWs story began to sound off to me when she started discussing her divorce, custody and child support and the fact that she had already moved. So much in such a short amount of time. I am a step parent. My step daughter is fully grown but about 19 year ago I discovered the step parents boards on AOL.. remember dial up? I was very active and learned so much about every aspect of divorce, child support, custody etc. With her story everything was settled in such a short amount of time. Her cs was low, she had cancer, she had already moved...Courts do not look kindly on men who lower their salaries to pay less cs. Courts look at salary history and wasn't WM in a security job one, that would need people of some decent moral character, at least that was my impression. Anyway the flag went up and then the talk about the gofundme site which was not started by her.

     

    I read some of the info on Razing Ruth on the Way Back Machine and have to say if she got that much money, gifts and gift cards I can't even imagine how much the Duggars get. It makes me sad thinking about people who really don't have money sending cash or girts to them when their father owns 2 planes and RE and other businesses. Such good Christians to take from people, then again the televangelists and their talk of seed money to get people to give them lots of cash.. Sadly it appears to be formulaic in how one gets people to believe their story and get the cash and so many people are using it to take advantage of people.

    When Facebook friends start getting annoying or post non stop I just stop having them show up in my news feed. At some point I change the setting back but for others it is easier to keep it off and go to their page when I feel like it.
