I'll always have a spot in my heart for that movie, 'cause I remember going with my mom to visit my grandma on weekends when I was a kid, and we'd all sit and watch this movie together :). I liked her here, too. Same with The Parent Trap, another one Imy mom, grandma and I would watch together (haven't seen the Lohan remake, so can't comment on that one). I should watch Pollyanna again sometime, it's been ages since I've seen it.

I also agree with your mention of Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz.

I was a huge Hayley Mills growing up. I loved Pollyanna but the Parent Trap was my favorite. I must have watched it a million times. She was such a great actress.

I haven't read any of her books, but I assumed they were lusty romances. Why did anyone say these books were porn?

That's what they are. I don't know why anyone thought they were porn.  They were banned in Florida high schools. The Bridal Quartet and the Dream trilogy.

  3. I can't remember the name of the episode. But there's one where Astrid and William are in the cemetery trying to open a crypt but are having trouble. William asks what Raphelle would do in this situation. Astrid says she'd get mad and say shit a lot. So they both do that to see if it helps. It doesn't but it's hilarious.

  4. The different Berenstein books cracked me up. I wanted John to go on.

The whole book ban is stupid. They complain about appropriate books for kids. But public libraries already have everything separated into catagories including children's sections. If your kid is in the adult section that's your problem not the librarian's.

They claim they are "protecting" the kids but if that was true why isn't it enough that it's in the adult section? Why do they need to take them off the shelves completely? They want to ban books from adults too. Nora Roberts' has two books ban for apparently porn. Anyone who actually read her books know the sex scenes aren't porn not even close. Also her book about Satanists isn't ban.

Pre-tweens and teens should have access to books to information about their bodies and sex if they want it. So many parents' won't talk to their kids about those subjects and not all schools have sex ed. Just because those books are banned doesn't mean they aren't think about it or learning about it somewhere else. I learned more about sex in the hallways of high school then in sex ed. I liked having the information because I had parents' who wouldn't talk to you about any of that. I'd rather teen and preteens have accurate information.

Just because you ban the books doesn't mean kids can't get a hold of those books. I read VC Andrews in my early teens. My parents' never would have allowed had they known. I made sure they didn't. This was pre-internet days and I had no problem get them. Yeah, it had incest and stuff but I like the for reading how much Cathy and her siblings went through. The shock at reading that the real villain turned out to be their mother.  Each book afterwards showed how the trauma continued to effect their lives into adults and raising their own children. Which a lot of sequels of similar stuff doesn't show. I like reading about what people go through whether it's fiction or real like the Diary of Anne Frank which has been banned in some places. I've read many more holocaust books since then. At sixteen I was reading romance books full of romance and sex.  I still like romance books and movies.

As pointed out the same kids have access to the internet which is the easiest way to find the same stuff that's in the the books they want to ban.

I love John pointing out certain stories from the Bible. I never tired of people pointing out the same stuff they supposely want banned is in the Bible. There's incest. Brother murdering brother. Wars and more. But it's not going to be banned. Nor do I think it should. I don't believe in banning books.

The guy addressing the board and the librarian were right.

I just don't get the rational of it being okay to say fuck two times, but OMG three times will scar the kiddies for life!!!!! Either allow it to be said or don't. The idea of allowing it but only so many times is ridiculous.

It really is. Kids have either already heard the word or it'll go right over their head.

You definitely need the notes to figure out who Dante hated and why. I feel bad for a lot of the people in the circle of lust (you'd think the way most of them were killed is punishment enough!) but at least getting blown around my a wind is one of the less painful things that happens in Dante's Hell (being turned into a tree that's torn apart by birds, anyone?)

That was for suicides? I just got the book and will definitely read the notes. I have heard Dante really hates anyone who isn't Italian especially the Greeks. With the exception of Cassius and Brutus who are stuck with Lucifier.  And he also apparently has a few Popes in Hell which will be interesting to read. Hanging out with Cleopatra and Helen of Troy actually sounds more fun then a punishment.

I wonder of Trudy's parent kept in touch with her daughter.  After all, they were actual family.

    So do I.

The last one is Harry, Prudence's husband.  You mean the next-to-last one, the dashing older gentleman?  I heard he's a possible new love interest for Violet.

Yes, that one. Lady Danbury I was hoping she'd get a love interest.

Yeah I didn’t get why Rey said that by her behavior she acknowledged she lied - she never said she lied, she was crying because she was terrified of the psycho stalker and the detectives didn’t believe she was in danger. I liked how the episode pretty much left it open ended as to whether the first attack was real or not -

I like how the left it open too.  I do believe her because of how scared she was but I can see how others (not Rey) might think she made it up. There wasn't any evidence.

one thing that I thought of was that Briscoe said she had deep scratches on her neck, but if she had done it herself wouldn’t they have found her own skin under her fingernails? That makes me think the attack was real.

That's a good question. They would have checked under her fingernails to see if it was her skin or not. That would have proved if she was lying or not.

Glad I’m not the only one who thought Anita was a bit out of character - that scene just seemed off, Lennie and Anita had known each other long enough for them to have a conversation about the case without getting so pissed.

No your not.  Van Buren knew Lennie too long. And there were times in the past and future when she disagreed with him or other detectives but still gave them time to look into it before ordering them to move on.

And Rey was a hypocrite for how he judged Lennie for his actions when Rey had lied to help the victim in the past. But Rey being a hypocritical jackass was nothing new.

    So true.

  10. Piper and Paige were my favorite pairing too. They were just so good together. They had different personalities that meshed well together.

  11. Leverage-the Lonely Hearts Job- The Leverage crew are at bachelor auction when they realize all the women there are grifters. Nate wants to find out who their leader is so he tells Parker to pick a fight with Hardison's date. Parker walks up to Hardison and his date, taps her on the shoulder and slugs her across the face.

Sophie: Parker! He didn't mean a literal fight. He meant start an argument."

Later Nate apologizes to Parker and tells her next time he'll say argument instead of fight.

That's a major inconsistency I mentioned. There are 2 stories on when Trudy and Monk met. One is they met when he was a detective, the second is they met in college.

I just reread your post and it was there. I don't know how I missed it. Sorry.

Maybe Monk was too anxious to meet them earlier?

Yes but I don't think he'd wait that long because it would make Trudy happy. I do love that her parents' were so great to him.

Stalker is a great episode, but Rey and to a lesser extent even Anita irritate me in this episode - I absolutely loved seeing Curtis get exposed for his hypocrisy on the stand, he was so damn self righteous. I thought he was wrong when he said that the victim acknowledged with her behavior that she made up the first attack, she never said she made up the attack and was genuinely terrified that she would be killed and she was right to be - she never said she made up the story, she was crying because they didn’t believe her. There were a couple of holes in the story but frequently victims do leave stuff out, I wasn’t convinced the first attack was staged, I think there’s a good chance it wasn’t, and I think the victim was crying because they didn’t believe her, not because she made it up. Lennie tried to make it right, and Rey was so damn smug and condescending about it, I loved when Jack exposed his hypocrisy.

I never thought she made up the story either. She was way too scared for someone who made it up. And your right that she never said she made up the story. I don't know why Rey thought she did. Also it was okay for him to lie to her employer so she could keep her job. But not for Briscoe to try and get her killer convicted.

Although I'm not sure he was lying. I always thought after she was killed he felt horrible about not believing her and trying to do everything he could to get justice for her.

Anita was wrong to jump down Lennie’s throat for changing his story, and it seemed kind of odd for her, her and Lennie had known each other long enough that it would seem like she would be calmer in discussing the situation with Lennie, and it seems like Lennie would go to her before testifying, like I said they had strong mutual respect so that felt off.
It’s a really good case, and it’s memorable because we got to know the victim before she died, so the viewer felt more invested in the outcome.
The twist that the killer blackmailed the company employee over his embezzlement and got to use his computer while incarcerated was good.
The building super was a cranky old guy and a memorable minor character.

Yeah Van Buren was out of character. She knew Lennie and should have trusted him. Even if she thought he was wrong she'd give him a day to look into before moving on. She was really good at doing that.

  14. The Peach cobbler competition felt like it should be on a different show. But it was nice to see Robyn just hanging out for the day. I was about to be pissed at her for thinking about going on a date with Miles but she fixed it at then by remembering all the bad times. Thank you. There's a reason they divorced. I still hate how they changed Miles.

  15. One that bugs me is in Mr. Monk and the Game Show Trudy takes Monk to meet her parents' for the first time when he's a detective. But they met in college and dated in college. Its hard to imagine she would have waited that long.

I tried to read it once because Little Women made it sound interesting. Boourns for false advertising, Louisa May Alcott.

Dante for the win when it comes to fun with the afterlife (and even then the footnotes saved me)!

I got into Dante after watching Overly Sarcastic videos on it on Youtube. It's funny who all Dante decided should be in Hell. I don't think Cleopatra deserved it. Not to mention how pathetic Satan ends up being.
