I just started watching this series on PBS, Sunday nights. I can't remember which season they're showing, I think it S03, but I've gone back and started at S01E01. It's such a good show! Always a titch creepy but the cast is great and the characters are compelling enough that I'm drawn in and I want to know more about each one. And it's good for practicing ones French!

Chloe is...intriguing and also quite odd, isn't she? Like she's almost a savant or a psychic or something.

The smarmy photographer is strange, the guy who's now under suspicion of stealing drugs and worse. I really hope Chloe doesn't get more entangled with him, he creeps me out.

I like Rocher, Cortene, the Commissioner, Fred. Really everyone is top notch. 👌 Plus, there are like 10 seasons to watch so there's a lot there! Anyone else watching?

I'm on season seven now. I really like the cast too. Especially Chloe and Rocher.

I actually really like The Road for some reason. Maybe because it ends well? I don't recall finding Brenda annoying. I didn't think she survived because she was popular but because she had faith that she could get through it.

I also dislike Joseph and Lonely Hearts though. I seriously have no recollection of Cargo, even though I must have seen it because I rated it a 7 on imdb.

There are some I can't rewatch because they're just too sad/disturbing to me. Won't list them all here, but "The Promise" is one. Anyone want to offer their list? I may provide an actual list later.

I can't watch rewatch Rampage. With so many school shootings, theaters, concerts, etc. I can't watch it again.

Intuitive profiler Chloe Saint-Laurent solves the most puzzling cases with the Paris homicide division in this suspenseful and fast-paced series based on actual criminal cases. Her exceptional sensitivity enables her to read the minds of killers and victims alike. From Walter Presents, in French with English subtitles.

Airing S01 now on PBS, Sunday evenings.

I'm on season five. It's a really good series.

Season 7 has so many classic episodes, it’s L&O’s strongest season from a case standpoint IMO.

We Like Mike is an excellent episode, great case and I really like the Mike Bodack character - the trial was really good where Mike had to decide whether or not to testify and it was satisfying seeing him do the right thing and testify against the killer, he was in a very tough situation, I was glad they said the Bronx DA dropped the charges against him at the end. It was a frustrating situation with how they had a confession and a ton of evidence against the perp but most of it got tossed because of the screw up where the witness was taken to the courthouse instead of the station. The investigation was great and I liked how they tracked down the perp from the neighborhood watch report. The perp was pure evil and very stupid as well. The donut shop owner was a memorable minor character. Awesome episode all around.

I really like Mike too and I'm glad he decided to testify. The Bronx was frustrating they couldn't wait a couple days later? But he told what he saw and even admitted to his own crimes even though he knew what that meant for him. Luckily they dropped the charges.

Passion is pretty good - the killer was somewhat sympathetic, his mother was awful, she threw him away like garbage all for that asshole Evans and even after her son went to jail for the murder she still wanted Evans, what a sorry excuse for a mother. Her and Evans deserved each other, both were rotten people. Pretty interesting case, even if it did take them a while to come to the right conclusion.

Yes, his mother was horrible. I think she's worse then Evans, he comes off as the asshole that he is. But she chosed to follow him around at the expense of her own son. She's so pathetic begging to Evans to talk to him after her son was convicted. Yeah she and Evans deserve each other. Poor Austin stuck in boarding school even during holidays.

Past Imperfect is a strong episode as well, good case about the model’s death and I liked how the investigation turned up the long lost daughter. Good investigation and trial, it was interesting how the victim just didn’t want it to be known that she was a hooker and that’s why she wouldn’t help the daughter with the paternity claim.

Yeah, I didn't expect a long lost daughter. I assumed it was her son. Especially when it came out that they didn't get along. I do feel a little bad for the daughter her mother wouldn't help her for her own sake and her son's. She of course didn't deserve to die for it. It would be interesting to find out how the money turns out. Sonja can sue and probably win now and Douglas sues her.

Terminal is an excellent season finale, really good case and investigation, and Adam had some great scenes where he took the governor to court for removing him from the case. I loved the scenes between Jack and Adam in this episode, it showed the mutual respect they had for each other. The state prosecutor who took over the case was a jackass and a dummy, he blew their chance at getting the death penalty with his cross, he should’ve let Jamie continue to try the case. The final scene of Adam taking his wife off of life support was very sad.

The ending always breaks my heart. It's so well done. Poor Adam.

I like the case too. At first everyone assumes it's a hate crime. Which makes sense. I like the girlfriend helping the cops lure her boyfriend and that it was her idea.

I agree the state prosecutor should have let Jamie take over. He was an idiot. He was the one who messed up the case. And he even said he hadn't been in a courtroom in awhile.  So then let Jamie do it. I hope he gets fired for that.

I love that Adam and Jack got to spend so much time together.

IMO, the Counting On threads had an unwarranted bad reputation. There are other sub forums on PT that have far worse thread titles and highly critical posts and they go unnoticed.

Also in my opinion I think Jeremy would actually like being called a Holy Goalie. Whether he's as good as he thinks he is of either, is up for debate. 😁🙏🏽🏒

He probably would since he thinks he's the best at both.

Josie’s prom dress in Never Been Kissed

It’s like something a Barbie doll would’ve worn in the 80s/early 90s. It’s almost a blessing that Josie never showed up to the prom looking like that, but Billy’s stunt was so vile that I almost wish that Josie had dropped his name in her big op-ed at the end of the movie because he deserved some comeuppance after what he did to her!

You know what’s sad? Despite how hideous the dress is, I still think it’s better than the Pretty in Pink trainwreck!

My barbie doll did have a dress like that in the 80s except it was blue.

  7. Patricia Heaton's character on the Middle was such the opposite of ELR Frankie was always in comfortable clothes when she was home. Her going out later at night usually depended on whether she wanted to put her bra back on. In one episode they have to go look for their kids and she's happy when Mike picks the car that has a bra already in it.

The house is always a mess. At one point their neighbor calls the cops because she thought they had been robbed. Nope, it was the same mess it always was. Frankie's too embarassed to tell her neighbor and the cops that it was normal. She decides the family is going to clean out their house and donate a bunch of stuff. But the cops find it and assume it's the stuff that was stolen during the "robbery".

Similar to Debra on ELR Frankie is a terrible cook but relies on take out food to feed her family. On the rare times she does cook her kids think their being punished. They'd rather starve.

  8. I really love that Raya's mom was so supportive of her. I hated that her grandpa wasn't. He was also very stupid. So he was okay with an organization that he doesn't know where it is "taking" his granddaughter off the street without telling her mother? Really dude?

It was great seeing Robyn and Delilah teaming up together. I like Robyn finally realizing she has to let her daughter make her own decisons. Finally. That was driving me crazy.

I agree about Dante's dad and the Captain. I just don't care about them. Same with Fisk.

The next thing will probably be deodorants for other people's bodies, so if someone's aroma offends you, you can spray them discreetly from a distance.

Is it wrong that I would love to see a commerical of people discreetly spraying people?

I don't understand why Max doesn't have all the episodes on the platform, but I guess this is something.

I hope it gets to the past few seasons so I can hear the jokes in the beginning. The last time HBO was free they didn't including John Oliver episodes so I couldn't finally hear them.

I think they missed the target here on government transparency versus what actually needs to be secret.

Good point. Some things actually do need to be a secret.

Which is why getting the ruling right is so important. As much as many of us want Harvey Weinstein to rot in jail, we shouldn't want our passion to get him in jail to muck up rulings and set bad precedents for the future. Because then we'd risk throwing a good person in jail who doesn't deserve it all because of a bad ruling.

I want it to be fair because I want him to be convicted without any way for him to get out. Which often seems like the case.

Here's what was at issue. The appeals court basically stated the following:

    • Harvey Weinstein had no criminal record before the New York trial, so, in the eyes of the court, he had not been proven to have done anything wrong before the trial
    • Despite this, the prosecutor brought forth as evidence the testimony of several women who accused Weinstein of crimes he was not on trial for, and thus were not being tested by the trial at hand nor were they tested previously
    • The jury then based too much of their reasoning for conviction on these untested accusations, instead of properly evaluating the accusations that Weinstein was actually on trial for.

It's like this- you've got a murder trial with a defendant who has no criminal record. The prosecutor brings in all these people who testify the defendant committed murder in prior incidents. The prosecutor then says "because all these people said the defendant committed murder before, he must have committed this murder!"

Well, you can't base a fair conviction on crimes the accused is not trial for, because those crimes are not being tested by the court. The defendant needs the proper ability to defend themselves, and they can't if they're faced with the prospect of having to answer for crimes they haven't been charged with (since charges need to be supported by physical evidence, not simply on hearsay alone). You also can't use, as evidence, accusations of crimes that haven't yet been tested by the court, since, in the eyes of the court, it is not proven that the defendant actually committed those crimes. Because of the presumption of innocence, since the accusations are not proven, you cannot say the defendant committed those crimes.

Now, you are allowed to use character witnesses and use unrelated incidents to establish motive. Getting back to my hypothetical murder case, if part of the prosecutor's case revolves around suggesting the defendant has anger issues and wants to argue the evidence points to the defendant killing the victim in a moment of rage, the prosecutor can definitely bring in people who have witnessed the defendant get violently angry before, because then the prosecutor can prove the defendant can let their anger get the better of themselves. The prosecutor would still have to prove that the rest of the evidence proves the defendant's guilt, but at least the prosecutor can establish part of their case.

My guess is that Weinstein's previous trial judge thought that by using the testimony of the women who brought forward the untested allegations, the prosecution would simply use it as evidence that Weinstein was the kind of guy who simply "would commit rape", not as evidence that he actually committed rape. The appeals court ruled that the trial judge erred in this assessment, as that the trial judge didn't stop the jury from using those untested allegations as evidence Weinstein committed the crimes he was actually on trial for.

One other tangentially related point- Weinstein and his lawyers brought up the claim that the #MeToo movement unfairly influenced his trial, and there may be something to this. I mean, I really don't know how a jury can be expected to judge a case fairly when, on a daily basis, they're confronted by thousands of protesters who loudly shout at them and implore them to convict. There's a reason why juries are typically sequestered for deliberations- put in a hotel room without TV or newspapers and (I suspect) the Internet, because the judge can't risk the jurors being influenced by anything that would bias their evaluation of the case. How all those jurors- and the judge- can't be influenced by those protesters is beyond me.

    Thank you.
