  1. I really liked how this tournament was designed. I especially liked the blind judging. Sometimes I truly think that chefs win because of their reputation! Not sure we really need Simon and Justin but since it is a blind judge, they are there to answer questions about the cook so maybe we do!

I went back and watched so I could compare the scores and boy did they vary!

    Antonia vs Marcel

    47    TASTE     45

    28    EXEC      27

    17    PRES      17

    92   TOTAL     89

    Eric    vs    Jet

    37  TASTE  38

    20  EXEC   22

    15  PRES   16

    72  TOTAL 76

    Alex   vs  Darnell

    37   TASTE  36

    20   EXEC   22

    14  PRES    14

    71 TOTAL   72

So Marcel is actually in second place by scores, just not by bracket!!  Can't wait to see next week's rounds. And I noticed that Marcus won't  be judging then.

Not sure whether to make a thread for it or not, but is anyone going to watch the Guy-hosted, March-Madness style Tournament of Champions starting tonight?

I am, already have it on my DVR calendar. I like quite a few of the chiefs but I think I will be rooting for Darnell! Have always liked him...of course, the pairings will make a difference!

****Just realized that Justin Warner and Adam May won't be on....wonder if they will judge?

    Vegas is another favorite.

I recently purchased the complete Vegas series. I know that I watched it when it first ran but don't remember much about it. I still love Urich but not so much Vegas...hoping it gets better during  the second and third season. It is fun to see all of the old actors and folks who performed in Vegas back then....will keep watching and see if it improves.

  5. I just watched the High budget game and really enjoyed it. Always thought that it was hard to use "cheap" ingredients, but expensive things are not so easy! Not being able to use the under $10 veggies was really hard...the one guy was smart to buy the whole basil plant but then he didn't use it as he should have. I was rooting for Billy the whole game and his meals looked yummy!

Can't wait for the Tournament of Champions to begin....hoping that Iron Chef Alex goes out early but probably won't happen!

  6. I had no problem with Johnny Cash because of this:

    Quote

50 Years Ago today, on May 11, 1965, Johnny Cash was arrested in Starkville Mississippi following a performance at the Mississippi State University. Cash was charged with public drunkenness after being caught in a local resident's garden picking flowers.

"I reached down and picked a dandelion here and a daisy there as I went along, and this car pulls up."

He spent the night in a jail cell and later wrote the song "Starkville City Jail" about the incident. Apparently, Cash shared his cell that night with a 15-year-old man named Smokey Evans. After kicking the cell wall so hard that he broke his toe, Cash took off his shoes and gave them to the 15 year old, saying, "Here’s a souvenir. I’m Johnny Cash."

In 1969, before singing "Starkville City Jail" to the inmates at San Quentin Jail, Cash recounted the experience:

"You wouldn't believe it, one night I got in jail in Starkville Mississippi for picking flowers. I was walking down the street ... and uh, you know, going to get me some cigarettes or something. 'Bout two in the morning, after a show. I think it was. Anyway, I reached down and picked a dandelion here and a daisy there as I went along, and this car pulls up. He said, 'Get it the hell in here boy, what are you doing?' I said, 'I'm just picking flowers.' Well, thirty six dollars for picking flowers and a night in jail. You can't hardly win can ya? No telling what they'd do if you pull an apple or something ... I'd like to get back at the fella down in Starkville Mississippi...that still has my thirty six dollars."

Johnny Cash is to be honoured by Mississippi town Starkville, 42 years after he was arrested there and locked up in the cells for the night. The Johnny Cash Flower Pickin’ Festival will include a pardon for the singer, four years after his death. It is reported that Cash was arrested in May 1965 whilst picking flowers from somebody’s garden in the town, inspiring him to write a song ‘Starkville City Jail’, which he performed at San Quentin prison.Johnny Cash later wrote in his autobiography that he was arrested whilst walking from his motel to a grocery store after a party on the Mississippi State University campus.“I was screaming, cussing, and kicking at the cell door all night long until I finally broke my big toe,” he explained. “At 8am the next morning they let me out when they knew I was sober.”

  7. A screened in porch!!!!!!! Finally, and what a grand porch at that. That fan should keep the air flowing and think no bugs! I loved the whole house and would move in in a New York minute...or maybe a Mississippi minute! Ben's chair was amazing....looked like it came from a Frank Lloyd Wright house. I don't think I would have ever chosen that particular wallpaper but the way it was used was perfect.

wasn't Susan's character written out cause the producers underestimated her popularity?

Yes, she was written out of the second season when they brought Rita Fiori in. Done rather abruptly and without warning. I actually like Spenser and Rita...a very different kind of couple but she never quite connected with most people. Realizing their mistake, they brought Susan back for what turned out to be the last season. Again, no mention of why Rita was gone. I have read that when they filmed the 4 movies, she was again in the show but since only Spenser and Hawk were the only original actors in them, it was quite different. (The movies were filmed in Canada not Boston.) One of the things I really liked about the original series was the fact that they used Boston and when it snowed, it really snowed!

I have just started watching Vega$ which I watched way back when also. Am only on the second show so I'm not sure how much I will like it but since Robert Urich is in it, I probably will!

Remember if you want to watch the first season of Spenser, it is available for free on IMDB!

  9. Mystery/suspense series based on Robert Parker's "Spenser" novels. Spenser, a private investigator living in Boston, gets involved in a new murder mystery each episode. Using his years of experience, his natural talents for observation and reasoning, and the occasional bit of help from his friend Hawk, Spenser never fails to crack the case.

I started reading the Spenser novels and could not stop! You can not imagine how thrilled I was when I saw that it was going to be a new TV series but wondered if it would live up to Parker's books! It did! Robert Urich was the perfect Spenser and Avery Brooks was Hawk! I luckily noticed that I could see the first season on IMDB on my Fire TV and couldn't wait to start watching. About half way through I realized I had to see the full 3 seasons and started hunting for the DVDs. Using ebay, I found a very reasonably set and off I went....Binging on Spenser is the best binge in the world.

I have several favorite episodes...some made me laugh, others made me cry. The funny? The two shows with Sal Viscuso as Sammy Backlin. These two shows were hilarious! The Road Back where Spenser is shot and there is a chance he may never use his right arm again...many tears! Sleepless Dream was another good episode that I couldn't figure out whether to laugh or cry so I did a little of each!

I'm hoping there are others on this forum who are Spenser fans also so we can chat about probably my most favorite show and actor ever!!!! Remember the first season can be streamed on IMDB for free! I wonder if anyone kept track of how many windshields and windows were shot out in the three years this series was on?

  10. I have truly enjoyed having Holmes and Holmes on HGTV. I think that is over now since all the new shows are beginning on Sunday night and I am going to miss them. It is nice to see how a "real" contractor fixes problems without over-dramatizing the problems. It also appears(at least to me) that these three really care about their clients. I also like how they do extras for the families...I loved the 3-D action figures that Mike Jr. had done and had to laugh at him being the angel in the room!(I wouldn't mind having that action figure in my room!!)
