I'm always surprised when these wannabe chefs audition with something super simple. Even if they truly are good cooks, they go to  three renowned chefs and say, "Here's a steak and I made some mashed potatoes." That's supposed to impress? But apparently it does sometimes. If you can get Joe to confirm it's medium rare, that's all it takes to get on Masterchef.

And can we please be done with all the fake out reveals? The judges doing the no/but really yes thing, and the contestants walking out looking all saddy mcsad sad face and then whipping out the apron. Enough already. Not cute anymore.

I doubt the judges decide anything.

I was watching Masterchef in Spain and producers decide everything. This year they even had a Tik Tok guy who couldn’t even cook anything simple.

I am not impressed by most of the contestants, I hope they improve later.

Just watched the most recent episode - Back Street. Does anyone think the victim’s Home Heath job was code for prostitution? I just found it odd that he was bringing all these women to his cousin’s house for what seemed like sex and texted his co-worker about making $100 to “dance”. The cousin claimed the victim was taking a revolving door of women to the back room to presumably have sex with them. Was he a sex addict? Or was prostitution going on in that house, run by the victim and perhaps the cousin too? However the cousin tried to down play it as being the victim cheating with a lot of women. Very odd situation.

So the suspect killed the victim why? Because he (the suspect) was high and felt like starting a fight that night?  Senseless. SMH.  I guess there is something to be said for the suspect not wanting his girlfriend to go to prison for his abhorrent act but he still killed someone over nothing.

It was really weird. The cousin mentioned a second girl and very erratic behavior from the victim, but I wonder if they ever interview that girl.

  3. I was watching the After the first 48 episodes.

Amazing how some of the victims’ lives have been extremely sanitized in order yo make them look good (for example drug dealers or thieves killed during their trade).

I know everybody has he right to have an attorney in court…but most of them are just scoundrels with nice suits who don’t care about justice, just their ego.

As one of the DA said: defense lawyers don’t  have to demostrate their clients are innocent, they just need to create doubt.

Yes, Derrick is a bit of an overconfident douche. But to paraphrase a musical, his skill with a grill is undeniable. It seems like you would be better off to just eat the fact that he's a jerk and have him on your side.

Shelley picked all her buddies thinking they were going to party. Derrick can be a jerk, but he knows when he has to work for the team.
I have watched several editions of MC in different countries and it is amazing how many contestants still try to pick their friends for team challenges and not whoever they think are the best team player.

Deep fried Iberico ham is the equivalent of a well done wagyu steak.

I like the new concept of gambling to change an undesired ingredient and maybe getting a worse ingredient. It makes it more interesting.

I agree with you. It is embarrassing that a chef who claims to respect the product and said the “farm to table” mantra cooked ibérico ham.

It’s like making a purée out of Caspian caviar.

  6. I like this show, is short, you can see chefs preparing interesting foods… but I can’t stand most of the hosts. Some of the “celebrities” barely know anything about food, so I guess they go there for some kind of self promotion.

Some people like Sunny Anderson makes the show totally unwatchable. I can’t stand her antics, screaming and yelling.

Aaron really needs to get an education.  Does he really believe vinegar isn't used in Japanese cooking?  Has he never had sushi?  And the word "interesting" is not pronounced "intreresting".   Also one of the top three takeouts in the UK is Indian, ie spicy.

I don’t think is fair to criticize Aaron about the pronunciation of a word when his first language is Spanish.

  8. With so many contestants lately being lazy, whiny or just plain nasty, it is great to find somebody who is likable and articulate. I liked her and Imhope she can improve her health and go on with her life.

So, Simon: can't drive, covered in tats, dressed like a teenaged soccer fan, and (apparently) hasn't had sex in 10 years. I was actually wondering if they were really married; Simon was definitely not wearing a ring.

I've seen a few of those scooter drivers who insist on using roadway, but I admit I've never seen one out AT NIGHT. I thought the whole 'go to the gym' thing was ridiculous, but I guess if you're Shannon, you can't just call up an Uber.

Her extreme lack of mobility makes her extremely likely not to survive for long, especially since she's also not likely to lose any weight on her own. I wonder if Simon will start looking around for another super-obese woman to latch onto once his current meal ticket expires.

    That bears repeating!🙂

They have to be married, I doubt she has hired him to take care of her, he needs a visa, and I don’t think they give visas just for care takers.

I have noticed that very little food is actually prepared in those households. Lots of fast food,take-out and the food that comes from the grocery store is generally 2 lite bottles of soda, baked goods, ice cream, processed foods and snacks. I think there is definitely an enabling dynamic that goes on between the caregivers and the obese person. Lots of guilting, begging, threatening. The saddest part is when I hear a caregiving parent or spouse say that they give them the food because that's the only happiness in their lives and if they took away the food, there would be nothing good in their lives. It's incredibly sad.

As an aside, Mr Poetic and I were making an 8 hour drive home from a family visit and stopped at a fast food restaurant (McD's) to get a bite to eat. I haven't had a fast food burger in years and after actually eating one, I can't imagine eating that kind of food every day, much less multiple times in one day. Also I was shocked at how expensive fast food has become. I hear a lot being said about how economically disadvantaged people eat fast food because it's cheap, but it seemed pretty expensive to me.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree here too.  I just saw an advertisement on tv for 4 items from Wendy's for $4.00.  Five minutes later, I saw a Burger King ad for 5 for $4.00. I think a lot of people would find this to be a cost saver and time saver.

Fast food is not cheap. It is convenient, for some people, but not cheap. It is a stereotype saying that low income people eat fast food because it is cheap, when it is not. I was talking with some families who have saved a lot of money during the time restaurants were closed.

This may not be a popular opinion, but after listening to Justin (ad nauseum) just keep repeating the same several phrases concerning how: Stephen was a bully, Stephen ruined his life, Stephen was in Houston, so therefore Justin had to leave, (Houston is a pretty large city, I'm pretty sure he could have stayed there and never ran into Stephen --especially since Stephen rarely leaves his room), It seems to me that Justin uses Stephen as his excuse to not do whatever he does not want to do. (Such as staying in Houston to do the program.) Even when they were half a country apart for who knows how long, Justin just kept coming back to the same old monologue. I understand that childhood trauma does not just go away, even when you are Justin's age. But there are ways to learn how to deal with it and not have it control the rest of your life.  I listened to him rehash the same things for 2 hours and couldn't stand it, how could Dad have listened to it Justin's whole adult life and not do something to help this manchild seek counseling so that he can become independent. Probably the same way he is killing his other morbidly obese son by supplying pizza every day. This father is the poison in this dysfunctional family.

I agree, Justin keeps using Steven as an excuse so he doesn’t want to change.

When they first introduced her, her occupation was listed as something like "Pharmacy Technician."  I assumed that she'd be preparing medication doses for patients in the hospital.  After about 10 minutes of watching her, I feared for her patients.  She did not appear to be smart enough to know that three McGriddles was an excess amount for breakfast, so I wondered whether she was smart enough to dispense medications.  Really, if she couldn't count to ONE as an appropriate amount of a serving for a fast food breakfast, how could she count out pills?

When they actually showed her at work, her job seemed to be more like "Pharmacy Courier."  Someone else did the work requiring attention to detail, and she just pushed the cart from the pharmacy to the various nurses' stations.

Reality was/is not a strong concept for Leneatha.

We only got glimpses of her job and the difficulties she had to do it because of her weight. I have met excellent professionals in their careers who can’t follow a diet. I work with some people who are probably around 400 pounds, very good in their positions, but with extremely bad eating habits.

i felt she could make it: full time job, supporting family...It’s a pity it didn’t work.

Don't fuel up, there are a lot of buffets near Dr. Now's office.

I watched the return to the office after dissing Dr. Now scene, when Ashley and her buddies went back into the office, and they were alone in the office, and everything was locked down tight except the door from the waiting room, and the exam room Dr. Now was in.   So the rest of the staff members were behind locked doors, or gone out the back door.

Not many buffets in that area, and I don’t think the Whole Foods across the street can be considered one.
