  1. I enjoyed this, liking the new cast, though like others I was expecting more of a time jump. I think last season was a bit heavy on seriousness at times, and liked to see a bit of a lighter side to the Queen. Elizabeth and Philip breakfast and jokes about the painting "one good eye between them" and the show of affection, reminded me of season 1 CF & MS, rather than last season strained marriage.

I also thought they did a good job of establishing everyone in the new roles, so recognize who they were.

Great episode..not a typical 9-1-1.  The final montage had me having Cold Case flashbacks..emo song..slow-mo walk through the police station...perfect...

I had exactly same thought I was waiting for ghost Emmet to be watching in the sidelines!

The episode was fine, agree that Athena doing everything herself can be a bit tiring.  I did like the flashbacks though.

What I did like that I didn't feel was too cliche, otoh, was that the show made me feel a little sympathetic toward the shooter.  I honestly didn't care one way or the other about Emmit. I mean, I should feel bad about him being killed because  he is a victim, but the show gave Glenn Plummer's character such pathos.  And in such a small scene it invites you to ponder a lot of different ethical questions:  prison as punishment vs. rehabilitation vs. a means to remove someone who is a danger to society.  Criminalization of drug addiction  (esp. true in the 80s when crack was the drug and the users affected were mostly black) vs treating drug addiction as a disease that needs to be treated (esp. true now when the opoids/heroin is the drug and the users affected are mostly white).  So there was a lot more going on with the resolution, imo that moved the original crime beyond its normal cliche bounds.

Yes this! I had those thoughts too. I was thinking what he's done in his life should count towards something, I would hope he wouldn't get too harsh a sentence.

  3. It was good when Rebecca told Jack not to make Randall choose, but I also wonder if part of it was guilt about denying Randall a black role model with his father William.

Malik does look a bit young, but I think part of that is being so used to shows/films using buff 20+ year olds playing teenagers!

I'm fine with him and Deja, I thought it was sweet that their day made her remember her day out with mom and grandma. I do agree though that has to be some serious discussions about how the dating works with his kid, Deja needs to know Janelle is his priority and he can't be expecting her to step into any mothering role. Also as Janelle gets older need to be clear on what Deja's relationship will be to her, will she be "aunt" Deja, or will she just see her occasionally

  4. Even putting the whole murder thing aside, Pat still isn't entitled to date Nicole because he helped her out. Nicole did care about him, but doesn't mean she wanted to date him and for Pat to go off on her because she said no is huge red flags.

Also totally agree that it wasn't necessarily that Pat was such a nice guy that it was surprise that he was the villain, but so many tropes in tv/film that would make him the good guy really.

Couldn't agree more. This is what I said a few weeks ago. It could be just a minor cut while on a routine call, and if it's not noticed, like we saw in this episode, Buck could bleed out. This proves Bobby's point. He shouldn't get out of Buck's way. Until Buck is off the blood thinners, he can't be on active duty, no matter if he believes he's ready. There should be no compromises when it comes to this. Until he's off the blood thinners, he's not ready.

I feel if they were to go ahead with siding with Buck, then he should have noticed the cut and then told the paramedic. That way he could show that he was being careful and responsible even when accidents happened. Instead he didn't notice and thought blood belonged to victim and was dismissing paramedic's concern at first. Which just proves Bobby's point.

  6. One thing that has been annoying me with Maddie is how she answers the 911 calls sometimes. I've noticed it a few times where someone calls with a shocking incident, like the windshield man and her first response is "i'm sorry what!", its like I get they are trying to show her surprise but it's not very professional or helpful!

I'm glad they aren't dragging out the Maddie secretly stalking the woman. I was surprised at Chim's reaction and the comparison to what Maddie's husband to him. It's not something I would have thought about but I was glad he called her on it.

Yay for Buck and Eddie back to being friends!

I think after the strong start to the season and intensity of tsunami, some of the episodes that have followed have been a  bit of a let down, particularly with some of the Buck stuff.  Still fun episodes but those first few episodes are hard to top.

  7. Just watched this episode. Wow I thought something was off with Pat but didn't think he was storm man!

Early on, I didn't like how he undermined Nicole encouraging Dion to use his powers with the basketball and I thought he may be power envy when he said everyone got superpowers. But this episode  withh his entitlement to expect something from Nicole because he was playing "nice guy", I hoped they weren't going to have her come around and go out with him, so it was a good surprise to have him the villain!

Pretty satisfying ending though I'm not sure that I like Beth Ann and April as BFFs raising a kid together. While April was nice to "Sheila" she was not a good person to Beth Ann; she was having an affair with her husband and didn't give a shit that he was leaving his wife for her. She showed absolutely no remorse for her affair and when she learned about who "Sheila" really was went to the house to confront Beth Ann. I would've rather seen Beth Ann find a husband who really loves her and with a gaggle of step children and/or adopted kids.

Well, they were close friends even if April didn't know who she really was, and I'm sure after Beth-Ann would have told April about Rob's other affairs and they'd bond over both being duped. Also I don't know about remorse, but April did seem concerned about the cancer

I'm good with them raising kid together, I think Beth-Ann would enjoy mothering but also having more freedom and working together as a team with April rather than having dinner on table. And I suppose she could have found another man but I think its good she found happiness in her own way without relying on man.

The three crossing deaths was so well done. THough one thing is I didn't catch what Beth-An mouthed to Rob before he died?

I like the epilogue of them handing keys over too.

My guesses for the deaths next week:

Beth Ann (or April?) kills Rob, but they (including Mary) kill two birds with one stone by framing Ralph for the crime.
Karl, near death, asks for Simone's help to die, and she acquiesces, helping him to die at home, with his boyfriend also at his side.
Taylor kills Jade, saving Eli (and Lamar, who we know witnesses the death).

I had similar ideas, though I was thinking Beth Ann will end up killing Ralph and frame Rob for the crime, letting him spend life in jail as punishment for all he did. Think maybe her and April will end up staying friends and raising baby together.

I think maybe assisted suicide with Karl too, which would be sad, I really like that him and Simone ended up being very supportive of each other.

I would also guess Taylor kills Jade in self defense.

As soon as I saw the first flashback I knew it would end up with Rob's misstress leving the gate unlocked, what a scumbag to blame Beth and make her think she was responsible.

I agree confronting Jade in car probably not the best idea, but maybe lucky Eli didn't do it in house where nobody would be around to help him if he got attacked.

  10. I liked a lot of this episode. Nicky and therapist at the start were really good, I like that he put Jack's picture on his fridge too.

I'm glad Randall didn't fire Jae Won, I also thought it was fun that his "proposal" he wanted to talk about was a marriage one, I wasn't expecting that. As for the open door policy for one day a week I don't think there is anything wrong with that, though with some provisos, firstly Randall taking note of these issues is good, but he shouldn't be making any promises about actually being able to change anything, because Bernice is right that he will need support else where to make some changes. Secondly they should really be having a time limit, say 15 mins with maybe flexibility to stretch to 20, but that last guy he was in there for over 40 mins, that's too much, even if he hadn't drinks arranged, he could have been having family time.

The sibling bonding was all really good, I liked Kevin coming to Randall's aid and Tess and Deja's talk. As for Kate I thought she handled Toby's news a lot better than she would have in earlier seasons, she was just a bit thrown and had to take some time to herself, nothing wrong with that. I like the friendship she is developing with neighbour too.

It seems like this is a one-season story.

Maybe a second season would be a different house, with different characters, but the same actors?

Well if we don't get to the murders until the last episode, next season could be about aftermath. Will the deaths be ruled accidental, could someone else be arrested for the crime? I could see potential for 2nd season, but also could be cool to have a whole new characters for another season.

I really like how Simone and Karl really care about each other. Last episode Eli was competing with Rob for being biggest jerk, but Rob comes out on top of that competition again!

What happened to Buck last season? He was the one pinned under the fire truck, right? But how did that happen? I remember the rescue scenes but not how he wound up under there.

If I remember right, a kid that blamed Bobby for his father going to jail set a bomb on the truck, causing it to go over and pinned Buck.

And did anyone else get weird vibes when Athena's ex walked past the pic of Bobby/Athena? He was intently staring. Idk if it was longing for the past, jealousy, something else... just my imagination?

Think this will be an ongoing plot, think feeling insecure about his place in the family, which did seem a plot point last season too, but must have unresolved feelings. He seems the most upset about being left out of wedding, while the others were more joking.

This was good, I do like the high drama/absurdity of the situations! If I have one nitpick it is that previous seasons seem to emphasis, that the teams job stops at the hospital doors and they don't always find out what happens after that, so it was weird that everyone was hanging around with the mother and baby in the hospital.

Buck and Christopher are supercute. Love Buck maybe how he deals with the tsunami will lead to him getting his job back, or a new career path if that's not possible?

I like Chim and Maddie together. Think Eddie and Buck will have to get together and then everyone will be paired off into happy couples, I do like their bromance and that Eddie was the one to kick Buck out of bed.

Well things have gotten real for the modern era.   For the first time I really liked the modern era storyline.   Taylor and Eli both fighting for top dog status in the relationship only to have Jade show that she has the biggest dick in the relationship.  Or possibly that she is just crazy.

I think this was the best episode so far. First time I thought all three storylines were good.  From the beginning I thought something was off with Jade, I thought she might be manipulating them for her own gain, but after this episode I'm thinking it's possible she cares about them too much and is going to get scary possessive and protective!

    Also loved stoned Beth Ann!

  14. Yep they've really made Rafael and Jane the worst couple this season. One of the few character's that has been consistently good this season is Petra. Love her relationships with everyone. Wasn't a massive fan of her and J.R. but at least they were trying to communicate, Petra put well being of her children first and even this episode she was considering JR's happiness over her own and was still willing to make it work.

Like her and Jane's closeness now, was glad to see her go to her first. Also agree Rafe and Petra seem like the better co-parents this season. Funnily enough when Michael first came back this season, I thought maybe him and Petra would end up together as "Jason" had an attraction to her and he did save her life in first season. Think if Rafael and Jane are endgame, then it would fit with telenovela drama to have Petra and Michael be together a switch around from season 1.

  15. The abortion storyline was well done, and Valerie has been around for a while now, so good to see her get focused on.

Mei is cute, but yeah I thought it was going in direction of the Turners coping with her leaving, no problem with her staying around. Them trying to cover up Tim being missing, made it more blatant, it was very odd that "Tim" was at dance with his hand covering his face all the time!

I was happy with how the Nurse Crane/ Sergeant Wolfe romance was resolved, that was unexpected and I'm glad that Phyllis didn't just get worn down and just settle for him.

  16. I was surprised about the gran, I didn't connect the two stories at all, though in hindsight with what else we learned about her in the episode it made sense. The confrontation between Val and Gran was well done and well acted. I also liked the Gran and Sr Julianne's talk.

I agree that there was maybe a bit to much going on, I was glad to see Sr Francis get a win, but yeah lot of side plots, including more build up on Mai leaving. Next week seems like there'll be a lot heartbreak, hopefully they'll have something light to balance it out.
