  1. I'm binge watching the entire DVD set. What I noticed and what really upset me was that the family was so easy to forgive Barrows for what he did but condemned a maid for sleeping with a man out of wedlock and having a child. It was disturbing that Barrows couldn't help what he did but a women is expected to say "no" but a man is allowed to have desires. That still stands today.

How could I forget the epic story of gay Bobby and John (the transvestite performer), which then became the story of hetero Vanessa and John when Bobby went to jail for 6 months, which then became the story of gay Bobby and John with his best friend Vanessa, which then became the tragic story of Bobby and "Diane" when John had his sex-reassignment surgery.

I remember that but damn, you're good for keeping that straight er, um, you know what I mean!

I tend to agree with this. Which is why I'll never stop regretting that they didn't focus on each team member's special skills over the years. From time to time, there should've been one case for each of them to display that special ability. It would've been way more compelling than to have all of them do the same things all the time.

It seemed like Criminal Minds Beyond Borders started to do this, just a little too late. One was a medical examiner, one spoke multiple languages and knew the nuisances of many cultures. They had the right idea, just too late.

I've just recently discovered this board so I'm a newcomer here. And I think this is so amazing to have an unpopular opinion thread like this one. But I hope mine don't shock anyone because it isn't my intentions.

And I have so many of them I don't even know where to start. Hmmmm let's see... OK, brace yourself for this first one :

    1. I think Garcia is an immature, not fully grown, attention seeking BRAT. And I can't stand how everyone seems to always be worshipping at her feet. Despite her huge fandom, that character is insufferable in my eyes. I thought I'd like her better after Morgan's departure, and I did find her to be a little bit easier to tolerate at times, but overall, she remains the same immature brat I've known when he was there.

Which brings me to my second U.O. :

    2. I hate the Morgan/Garcia duo dynamics with the fire of a thousand suns. Every site I go to, people adore them. But me, I found them over the top, in your face, irritating, unprofessional, selfish, overrated, tacky and rude. It's just unbelievable to me that they got away with so many of their antics when Hotch was there. I remember one time, the team was in a police office in another town, Morgan called her and told her to be careful because they were on speaker, and she replied : "Or else what ? You're gonna spank me ?" or something along those lines. You could see the shock over the officer's face. Hotch and the others remained impassible but they seemed uncomfortable too. And this was just one of Garcia/Morgan's countless  unprofessional, classless moments over the years, and they've had much worst than thatTheir convos usually always had a sexual connotation even though they knew the rest of the team was listening. Can you say tacky ? And each time, neither their boss or their partners found it amusing. As for me, it came to a point where I rolled my eyes as soon as Morgan called Garcia, because I just knew what was coming. No amount of "Baby girl" talk (hugh, I hated to even hear Morgan say those words 50 times per season. What a nightmare !) in the world is ever gonna make me like that pair. What other people round cute and endearing I found annoying and revolting.

For as much as Hotch was hard on Emily when she first appeared because he thought she wasn't there on her own merits and her gold was to harm his career, and on Jordan for making one mistake, he sure bowed down to that obnoxious duo. Never once did he reprimand them for their unprofessionalism. Un-be-lie-va-ble

Love this! The show is a fairytale and completely unrealistic. People wouldn't get away with this if they worked at a grocery store , how are we supposed to believe that Garcia and Morgan would be allowed to act that way in the FBI?

  5. I suppose but what do they get out of it? Someone you don't know if you can trust? So they say they love you but how many other women are they writing to? It seems crazy to me. They can't contribute in any way. Yep, I'd rather be single. I don't need a man that much.

  6. I don't know if any of you will be interested in this or not but I thought I would post it just in case. If you are interested in jewelry and antiques from this time period ( and others pieces) , there is a show on AVC ( Americas Value Channel) on Mondays and Thursdays from 5-10pm. It's called Antiques and Estate Jewelry with Sue. You can also watch it at shopavc.com. It's channel 224 on DirecTV. She has a variety of period pieces if you are into that.

Oh, definitely. That and a need to control everything-if they get divorced they'll risk losing some, if not all, of their money/their house/the kids/etc.

Problem is, they apparently don't ever stop to consider the fact that if they get caught and are found guilty of the murder, they're going to lose everything for good anyway because they'll be going to jail for the rest of their life. At least if they were to just get a divorce, they might still salvage some part of their lifestyle.

Typical of the narcissistic personality to think they are smarter than everyone else, including the cops.

They reran Under A Full Moon on Saturday - the one about the Las Vegas cocktail waitress found dead in her home by her husband who was a firefighter. I hadn't seen it before. The minute the husband revealed they were separated I knew it was him. Even when it turned out he had a solid alibi I knew he must have hired someone to do it for him. They also started the episode with his 911 call and he sounded way too calm for someone who'd just found his wife lying dead on the floor. Not much of a mystery here, typical "husband did it" story. Why are there so many of these? Why is murder such a commonly preferred option for divorce for so many of these men? Is it just an ego thing?

Because the significant other usually does it. Statistics show it's usually someone close and that's why they have to rule out the spouse.

  9. She was a child when she lost her friend and treated like a suspect. I can imagine it's been very traumatic. Maybe it isn't the same as losing a daughter but she was only a child and treated very badly for years by the mom and I suspect the mom only played nice for the cameras. Had they not been doing the show, I doubt there would have been any "apology".

I watched the recent Murdertown, and a young mother's ex-husband says that she ran off with her new boyfriend.  Some family members doubt it, but also think that it could be possible, but still are skeptical.  As more years pass without hearing from her, they get more and more concerned.  IIRC, after thirteen years, they decide to contact the boyfriend that she supposedly ran off with.  WTAF?  Thirteen freakin' years later?!  And of course when they find him and talk to him, they learn valuable info that helps solve her disappearance.  I simply don't get it.

And it turns out to be the creepy father-in-law.

I think woman who feels the urge to nurture or mother, or ones that feel that even a murder has some redeeming quality, or ones that think only God can judge are the ones who hook up with prisoners.  They get a man who will always be where he says, will make you feel needed.  A lifer has nothing better to do than write letters that say you are the best thing in his life, he has no one else, he looks forward to your letters, etc.  All that fills a void or makes them feel "special".  Then I've read that the savvy prisoner may start with "the food here is awful, can you send me $ for commissary" and the woman can feel good that she is taking care of him that way too.

That's a mommy not a wife. I'd rather be single. Lol

  12. Apparently women can't help themselves. This a-hole is getting love letters in prison. Why? After killing his pregnant wife and two small daughters, why would any woman give him the time of day let alone write him a letter. SMH

Yeah. On the one hand, given what we've heard about abused women still defending and overlooking the crap they put up with, and given it's clear she was struggling with some personal issues of her own (acknowledging she wasn't a good mom), I feel for her and sympathize. But on the other hand, it was strange to hear her so angry over this abusive creep's death, too. I liked the daughter's honesty in admitting that on some level she wasn't sad that her stepfather was killed. That poor woman, though...

Also, what kind of friend decides to set somebody up with someone who's in jail? Especially somebody who they know has a child? Why bring that risk into their lives?

And what kind of mom agrees to it? I have to think the mom was a mess before this guy was introduced into her life to even think this was a good idea. IMHO

Got'cha. I've made the comment before, but will say it again (yeah, yeah, I know - I'm a crotchety old dude who likes to spout my opinions). Given the choice - I'd choose to be an wild animal killed by a hunter rather than a livestock animal on a factory farm any day of the week.

Sorry/not sorry.  The authorities will never get a word out of me (other than "lawyer"), much less my DNA.

And I have nothing to hide.

I very much agree with you. Did you know that the police now have access in some states to blood tests from newborn heel pricks? Parents have no idea that this blood has been stored and did not give consent. In most cases , for adults, the police must either have a search warrant or you must have committed a felony ( in some cases just been arrested). The law has not caught up to this dna technology and as Americans we still need to protect our privacy and that of those that cannot speak up even if it's solving cases and we have nothing to hide.

I definitely think Burke had a lot of jealousy issues with his sister, but I'm not sure the name was part of it. I don't even think of the male, "John" when I see a name like Jon Benet.

I think it gives some insight into their family life though. Patsy fussed over JB so much and Burke saw that. He was still a child and needed his mom too but life was all about his sister and maybe that's why he lashed out at her.

  17. I have my DVD set to record new episodes. They have these labeled as new. The date was December 16, 2018 even though there was nothing new about it, no new updates or anything. This has happened a few times. I'm not sure why they are doing this.

    • Love 2
  18. Another thing I thought of that may explain something is... isn't it strange that JB is named after her dad but Burke isn't? Doesn't this show maybe in his mind how his parents thought of her and why he lashed out at her?

Edit: Dad has children from first marriage, one of them being a son named John Andrew. I guess naming another son "Jon" wouldn't work.

I don't put much stock in Patsy wearing the same clothes as the night before. As someone else pointed out, she was a secret slob and she might not have done laundry in a while. Also I believe she'd gained weight in the past year and maybe a bit more during the holidays ... she might not have had a lot of outfits that fit her properly. She mentioned in one interview coloring her own hair in the day or two leading up to JonBenet's murder. I would think that a woman of her means would never EVER allow her hair to come into contact with box color -- they make appointments in high-end salons. So her behavior was, to say the least, not predictable or consistent with someone of her wealth.

She's a control freak. Patsy held the control , not Jon. Her son was not right and the more you are away from home, the less control you have. I suspect Patsy was worried something could happen because of Burke's violence. I suspect he may have molested JB and that's why she was having issues that the school brought up maybe even why she was wetting the bed. Maybe Patsy was very fearful for her image. Maybe she was worried about her kids if she died. I'm not making excuses. I think she felt all control slipping away.

    • Love 2
  20. I  also wonder if Burke injured JB severely, enough that she was unconscious and maybe Patsy walked in on it and panicked. In her mind maybe she started worrying about an investigation into their home life, Burke's previous behavior, her reputation would be ruined . What if this  explains the garot? What if she or Jon finished JB off and set up the scene to protect Burke. I also think it's possible Burke had sexually abused JB and it's possible he has been molested by someone. Child molesters often repeat what is happening to them on other children or their siblings. It could explain his violent outbursts and why he reacted to JB. He wanted and needed his parents attention but she received it all.

  21. I haven't been a huge follower of this case but something has always bothered me about the mom. I saw an interview with her and JB dad. I cannot remember if it was a police interview or a media interview but the question was like this "Do you feel that the pageants had anything to do with JBs death?". The mom vehemently denied that they could have and right then I thought "how do you know that unless you killed your daughter or know who did?" So, I've always felt the mother knew something or was covering.

I don't think this case will be fully investigated again until everyone that was involved before is dead. The crime scene was mishandled, the investigation was blundered and all of that would come out if it ever went to trial. It would make these people look worse than the cops at the OJ trial. It's not because they don't know, it's because they are protecting themselves.

Two hours of Keith give me the will to live another effing week!  :-)

I agree! Keith is an excellent storyteller. His use of descriptive adjectives just pulls me in. I prefer him over Josh Manka-whatever and appreciate seeing new stories for a change. It makes me sad that they are at the expense of some families heartbreak though.

Currently there is no nationwide governmental database that accurately compiles the number of people who annually get shot by the police in the United States. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/mar/04/police-killed-people-fbi-data-justifiable-homicides

But there are groups who are trying to figure out the data from various sources. This link above will take you to an interesting analysis of this data. https://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/09/04/the-real-story-of-race-and-police-killings/?action=click&module=RelatedCoverage&pgtype=Article&region=Footer

The general conclusion is that racial disparities are evident. African Americans are shot in disproportionate numbers by police officers. One could also argue that even if the police officer doing the shooting is African American: the quickness to shoot a black person can still be the result of a systemic racism in which black people are viewed as being more dangerous.

In fact, racial profiling can even start in preschool:  https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/09/opinion/racial-profiling-in-preschool.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&version=Moth-Visible&moduleDetail=inside-nyt-region-1&module=inside-nyt-region&region=inside-nyt-region&WT.nav=inside-nyt-region

So sadly, one's skin color does matter - even though it's 2018. As for the news media - I can think of quite a few stories where the person shot by a police officer was white. Now that everyone has a video in their phones, and cameras are on so many building: police shootings are probably bigger news than ever.

That's not to say that a police officer's job is easy. I sure couldn't do it. In fact, I just heard a segment on NPR the other day about how a lot of police departments are having difficulty finding qualified applicants. People just aren't choosing it as a career option the way they used to. So there are a lot of issues at play here. But the first step to solving a problem is admitting it exists.

My point being, the media shouldn't be reporting on it in these cases at all or they should do it in all cases. How many African American men rape and/ or murder white women, pimp them, traffic them? How many white men rape and or murder black women, pimp them , traffic them? How many African American men rape and/or murder African American women, pimp them, traffic them. What about other races? Why is it only important to report about white  cops shooting African American men? If the media is going to report a victims race and a non convicted suspects when they are white, then why aren't they reporting this in all cases? White woman raped by Asian man. Black woman killed by black man. White woman killed by white woman. See what I'm saying? When two black men kill each other, it's not important to mention the color of their skin.Profiling comes in many forms. Insurance companies do it, doctors at the ER do. Just mention you have pain and they won't take you seriously. Profiling of any kind is wrong but it seems that only racial profiling is frowned upon. But I do appreciate that you spoke without insulting me. It's a touchy subject and I don't mean to hurt anyone.
