  1. Happy Monday, everyone! I hope folks are seeing sunny weather where it's wanted, rain where it's needed, and warm temperatures that don't constitute a heat wave. (Or, for folks in the southern hemisphere, cooler temperatures and an escape from fire season.) I actually got up early on a MOnday, which I figure is a cause for celebration, especially since I'm still dealing with back spasms. Grumble.
  2. MMMmmmm; jam. Az, I grew up with my Nana doing the two day thing, and she very definitely used the melted paraffin method. There was even an ancient metal teapot that she used, year after year, to pour the melted paraffin onto the tops of her goodies (usually apple jelly, apple butter, plum jam, many different types of pickles and such.) I finally got around to getting jars and paraffin a couple of years ago, and they're out on the back porch, gathering dust. Shanna, what you describe sounds like it might be easier. I still would have to figure out how to boil the bottles of jam without knocking the stock pot over and causing potentially scalding mayhem in the kitchen. I think I'll settle in and have a cuppa with some of Shanna's jam to go on some of the brown bread I brought in. Home made; it didn't rise as well as I'd have liked it to, but it's quite lovely, otherwise. I assume there's some butter at the back of the fridge? *goes to look* Sitting here is quite comfortable, and that's important, since I've been fighting off a back spasm all day. I've also been fighting off the results of an unexpected crazy-bad cluster headache triggered when I tried doing some exercises (to loosen the back, of course) and instead managed to set off a bad nerve in my neck. It went mad, caused a bunch of muscles in my neck and shoulders to cramp and - voila! - instant cluster headache. Luckily, the cluster attack only lasted about two minutes (although from the inside, it felt like a week and a half), but it drained me for the rest of the day. And of course, the original purpose of the exercises? Yeah, still have the back spasm. Bah. The only good thing about growing old as a couch potato is that ... well, I'm growing old. The alternative would, at the very least, make it difficult for me to post here. Hi, Sharpie, hi, Books; welcome! (Good to have someone else who hails from Chicago, too!) Hope all the yard cleaning and weeding went well. Az: I've been using a trackball that BB got me for the last year or more. He got it for me because my wrists were acting up with my RA, and he figured moving a single digit, my thumb, would be better than constantly moving the wrist. I had about 24 hours of not liking it, and then fell in love with it. One of the coolest things about it is that all you have to do to clean it, is pop the ball out, and you can actually just use your finger to wipe off the small working parts, then give it a good blow to get loose dust out, and it's good to go. In other news, y First Born and his wonderful girlfriend have finally found a good apartment; they just got accepted today, and will move into it July 1. Hurrah! Finally, after a year's worth of baby sitting his two cats (along with our three), we'll be back to having just three cats! Oh, and I finally got the Doctor Who General Gabbery subforum that I downloaded all wrapped up in a zip file, and uploaded the zip file to my Google drive. I'll be glad to share the link with anyone who gives me their email address, so that they can access it and download it to their own hard drive if they so desire. Now I have to think about getting another cup of RL tea and taking something else for the frakkin' back. WyKnott, I can't believe someone would knock down so many fruit trees! That's so uncouth! Unless ... maybe they all got diseased, and had to be removed?
  3. All things are possible, but I believe you may get snapped up faster than you think. Even from across the Pacific I can tell that you'd be a corporate catch; you're smart, create, able to operate in crisis mode when necessary and good and caring about your teams. I'll be here rooting for your when you head out on the job hunt. But in the meantime, go, you, for having the time to do what you wanted to do around the house! And I will add you to the list of people who get the zipfile, as soon as I see whether that works.
  4. Ah, megs, it's good to see you here. By the way - I ended up archiving the entire Doctor Who General Gabbery sub-forum, and a couple of people have asked me to send them copies, if I can figure out how to put the collection into a zip file. If you'd like a copy, once I figure out how to email it, I'll send it to you. Today was the first really warm day of the year, and I made the mistake of not putting the AC on in the car as I was out doing chores. I enjoyed the fresh air, and thought that the breeze was keeping me cool, but got home to find myself completely drained, with that kind of prickly, slightly uncomfortable sleepiness that the heat sometimes inflicts on me. Ah, well. Thank heaven for AC at home.
  5. Just dropping in right now ... in the last throes of watching TWoP fold up into its own singularity and disappear; I've been a forum-archivin' fool (although it's been easier to get the individual threads; I figure I'll ultimately have about 70, maybe 75 percent of the DW threads I wanted to save, saved), and I'm just this side of teary about the whole place disappearing in *checks watch*- -AAAAAAuuuugggh! Less than an hour!!!!! But this is going to be one of my new homes, and I feel like I should be bringing the last of the boxes and the furniture over from LINDA. *is slightly dejected, but trying to make it only slightly*
  6. Just wanted to drop by to say how much I loved Amy. I remember not being quite sure about her for awhile, after loving her in "The Eleventh Hour" - and then "Amy's Choice" came along, and so many more, and "The Girl Who Waited" ... and then I realized how much I respected this broken, fierce girl turned woman - selfish and loving, generous and scared, brave and confused and dangerous and all sorts of awesome, and then I went back and watched all of her stories all over again and - yeah, this old broad thought she was fantastic. Then again, I love her daughter too, and her husband, so ... yeah, missing Pond and her family? Pretty much standard for me now.\
  7. Az That may be difficult; how about we just put out a message saying "Whoever had it last, drop it off at the door, no questions asked"? Might save someone a bit of embarrassment at having kept it too long. Heh. I am going through the kind of withdrawal only necessitated only by the loss of TWoP. I am reading GRR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books, and enjoying them, but I haven't been watching the show. On the other hand, I've been devouring TWoP's recaps of the show (plus *ahem* loads of fanfic and fanvids and just plain clips of the shows), so not having the recaps is ... unsettling. But I figure I can come in here and grouse about it. I'm not going to grouse about DW, because at least I'll be watching that when it returns, so I won't have to depend on recaps.
  8. My favorite Doctors are Nine, Three and Eleven, and I think as of now, Elevent juuuust edges out Nine. I'm rather fond of Seven as well, and I wish we could see more of Eight's adventures. Companions? I loved Rose, never got tired of her; I also adored Donna, and never really got around to forgiving RTD for what he did to her. Jack, Nine and Rose, and Eleven, Amy, Rory and River are my two favorite New Who teams. I want to be River Song when I grow up. I really like Jo and Liz with Three (and the Brig!), as well as Ace with Seven. I wasn't much of a Four fan, but I did like Romana II. I always liked Ian and Barbara, too.
  9. Hello, folks - it's good to find a new place ... now we have to go about decorating it. But, like moving anywhere, you're not quite sure just when to bring the last of the furniture, books, CDs and records (does that date me?), celery, etc. over, because you always want to stay at the old place until the last possible minute .... Hi, Mack, hi Nam, and HB and Ms. Sherlock! Hi, LTL; what would you like to add to the decor? Az, you are an excellent and welcoming host!
