Ashley was (is) well known in the Dallas area and had several friends already on DCC, so she came with local recommendations. I think her potential to be big on social media, which was just globally taking off as "influencers" emerged and what not, was also appealing to TPTB at the time.

She flunked her DC pre-test twice. Her kicks were low, but rumoredly the reason they cut her so soon was the test.

In a mild defense, she didn't have a lot of time to prepare. The Mavs were suddenly dismantled in May of that year. She may have been planning to do another year or two with them before trying for DCC again.

As for Katie, I think TPTB balked because they once again didn't want to deal with weight or "jiggle" in training camp. They had just dealt with that with VK for most of season 13. They would rather just cut at finals at be done with it.

Didn't she say that she'd tried out for DCC before? Flexibility is never a bad thing to be working on as a dancer as I'm sure the Mavs did some form of kicking motion over the four years she was there (not a kickline obviously, but some kicks in some capacity).

As someone who is an influencer (well, blogger) and works in marketing, I can definitely see her appeal though. She'd have been used on just about every poster and promo for sure!

I don't think Katy was even that big, 4 hours of dancing a night is pretty good cardio to lose a couple of pounds! She's built a bit like Rachel A, more of an athletic figure, which isn't usually TPTB's favourite body type. Charm was VERY passionate about her, that's why I was convinced.

These are great! I didn’t realize that they danced to SO many different songs other than Thunderstruck back in the day! These are some of my favorite squad years. Did anyone else notice that Jordan Chanley wasn’t anywhere near hitting her split at the end of the fourth video? ( I believe it was Jordan Chanley from what I could tell.)

Oh god, that was awful from her. I'm going to guess that she pulled something during one of the kicks because she wobbles when she gets up and looks uncomfortable before they walk off. Either that or she didn't stretch enough beforehand.

  3. @ByTor I was just going to say the same thing. The real world and DCC world are very different. It was probably the fact that she was sneaky about it, considering her teammates obviously knew about it. You know Kelli hates it when people use DCC as a stepping stone (I mean they're only there for a few years and then what?). I liked Alora Rose (solid, technical dancer) but her heart was never 100% dedicated to DCC and Kelli hates that. Most only auditioned during that year because it was the only dance job available!

Same.  Plus you get to see just how versatile & well trained some of them are.  It's easy for a dancer to lose some training & technique when not being challenged doing less advanced choreo (ie: DCC style).  I think the guest choreographers help keep the ladies current and perhaps a bit challenged.  Just my 2 cents worth as a former dancer.

I like how you get to see different people shine too. I'm currently rewatching season 12 on UK television and at least they try to get some variety. There's usually at least one hip-hop and one lyrical/contemporary guest choreographer in each season (on the show at least).

I think especially for the vets, it must be a bit boring to keep dancing the same old pom routines year on year. At least they bring in a bit of change! Plus it must save the girls some money by not having to go to other studios to work on other dance styles!

Not tryin’ to be a hater here but, I am one that never really liked all the weird ass choreographers that we’re brought in.  I know they are super talented people… but just gimme Michelle Keys and Denise DiCharry all day any day.  Oh and Ka$h too.

See, as a dancer, I love the guest choreographers. I get a bit bored of seeing the same old Judy choreography and like it when they mix it up. They're some of the best choreographers in the industry so it's pretty cool to be able to take a class from them. Potentially, they could even hire you if you're really good at their style! To each their own :)

Currently watching season 12. Unpopular opinion...I don't understand what was "harsh" or "older looking" about Katelyn. Maybe it's tv lighting, but to me her hair looks dark brown, not jet black; plus, I thought it looked like it was her natural color & not dyed dark. She had such a pretty face and those great kicks, I always get sad when I see her!!

I got very defensive when they chatted about her hair because mine is the same colour! The only note I had was maybe it was a tad long, she looks great with long hair but a couple of inches shorter could've made it less harsh (like Jinelle's). I've no idea what they were talking about her looking old, it's not like she looked 70 or something. I was rooting for her to watch the show back and return the following year.

Tori can't be that far back surely? I'd have her where Armani is at the very least and have Armani out on the edge somewhere. I know Tori is a tall girl so between her, Jada, and Victoria, they need to balance each other out somehow.

Is that Karley the 2nd year on the fourth row? I don't really remember her being a standout in her first year. Then again, it's been hard to follow everything with no show! Looks like she got a Barbie this year so maybe she's stepped up as a vet!

Loving seeing Megan so far forward, she really sells a performance. Lea should be moved forward a bit too but at least she's on the outside.

Is Jessica the new Danielle or Nicole Bulcher? Dependable and a great teammate but not a standout performer.

Don’t mean to be like super stalkery lol but these 13 girls were followed by Dina Brown Donnelly, Kelly’s assistant, last night. She follows almost all of the previous DCC/TCC and this pattern was the same last year. These are my best bet for new girls in training camp not excluding previous TCC making it back (I’m hoping for Bre Harker, Alyssa Barkin, Kayla Garcia, and Ariana McClure).

Only a few have dance vids on their profiles so I've no idea about them. Charly is the new Claire for sure. All styles, crazy technique.

I still want to know why she spent so may years trying to make it just to leave after two years...then try to go back...THEN dance for another team.

I personally think she left because the rookies were getting more technical, meaning she might disappear into the background a bit/possibly risking getting cut at finals. Sure, she is gorgeous (all of them are) but she wasn't exactly a strong, technical dancer. She definitely improved but she wasn't the best dancer.

The year she retired (2018) was arguably one of the most talented rookie classes, with five of them making it onto show group as rookies.

You mean her stripper nails?  😄

I agree it was a little tacky, but I never understood why Kelli thought that curly hair + long nails = stripper.

I thought Brandi was very respectful because if someone was saying I looked like a stripper, I'd have struggled to keep quiet!

I preferred her curly hair, which gave her a distinctive look. She was silly not to cut her nails down a bit though. Long nails and pom poms don't go well together.
