Tonight's episode had me wishing Emilia had been given her photo as well - I would have loved to have seen it!

You're in luck.  Emilia posted her photo on Twitter and MasterChef retweeted it.  She also responded to a few comments, including one from what looks like her mom(?).

To be fair, there's a valid reason to cut people out of the credits this season.

Also, straws can have multiple designs. There was nothing wrong with the way they looked..

Have to agree to disagree.  This is a season of returning all-star (for the most part) contestants.  A lot of favorites went home, like Amina, who should still be represented in this season's credits.

Even paging thru google's images, I didn't spot any horizontally striped straws, so for 'realism', they SHOULD be spiraled.

  2. A few thoughts on the pressure test episode...

Knew for sure we were down to 12 contestants because they chopped the opening credits and song in half.  Why do they do that?!?  This is still season 12 and those other 12 contestants should be featured for those few seconds because they helped make this season.  It will NEVER make sense to me why they omit half the cast.

I'm assuming they blasted the kitchen with a/c in order to have successful chocolate work, and that they informed the contestants ahead of time that the kitchen would be cold.  Otherwise, I'm surprised they had coats and hats in the gantry... all except Reece, who stupidly decided to wear shorts.  (*singing* One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong...)

That dessert looked incredible and I would have loved the opportunity to try it since watermelon is one of my favorite foods.  However, I took issue with the straw.  Kirsten Tibballs needs to do a little more research on straws (a simple google images search of striped straws would have been enough),  Straws are NOT striped like that, they spiral from one end to the other.  Doesn't take much to change what she has, just a slight shift... or is that too difficult for these MasterChef contestants?

And finally, I'll throw in my 2 cents on Melissa's earrings.  Don't like them!  Every time they showed her, those earrings distracted me and all I could think was... one day, 20 years from now or so, she'll be getting reconstruction surgery for elongated earlobes if she keeps this up.

  3. I can't remember, and I'm too lazy to download it again, but what was green team's required equipment?  Was it the pressure cooker?  Because if it was, they shouldn't have won since their protein was changed.  Anyone remember?

I remember this happened to Elena. She was basically in the background the majority of S8 and then really started getting attention with less than 8-6 contestants remaining. I think it's more the show favouring some contestants too early on for their stories and personalities. They end up overlooking more talented and quieter contestants. Similar thing happened with Billie; I remember Georgia getting way more attention for most of the series.

If that's the case, it's very poor production.  I never saw Emelia's season so I know nothing about her except what they showed leading up to the sushi train immunity challenge.  It's tough for the public to have faith enough in any contestant to wager on them winning if they never get to see them!  As it is, here we are with over 25 episodes in and whenever I see a wide shot of the contestants I try naming them off and actually have difficulty because I can't remember which one they are, or what their name is (sorry Emelia, it's taken a while).

I really don't care for Poh. I can't actually give a sane reason for it but not my cup of tea. Even though Reynold is a bit over confident this season at least he's quiet and doesn't flap around with all this drama.

I finally figured out why I don't like her.  I thought it was her monstrous cave-mouth, but no... that's just the results.  It's her laugh... at everything SHE says (either aloud or in her head in response to something someone else says)!  She isn't given credit, that I'm aware of, as being a comedian... but boy, does she think she's funny.  I do have a sense of humor, but the only thing I can remember laughing at all season was Ben's phallic twill.  Okay, okay... I also laughed during Katie Perry's visit... but that was awesome.

I've never liked loud, obnoxious people.  Give me Jess, Tessa, Brendan any day... I'd rather watch and learn how their minds work than have to feel frazzled after an episode because 'I've done this so many times I can do it in my sleep but this is the Masterchef kitchen and "it HAS to be perfect" even though I don't have enough time to do it'.  Bah, faux drama!

I think the judges are favouring certain contestants like Simon, Laura and Poh over the others. It'll be interesting to see where they place especially with flavour masters like Sarah T. and Khanh around.

It's not just the judges, it's the producers.  I decided to do a count... since Poh had immunity and wasn't cooking... and she was shown SIX times in the first half hour (I stopped counting then because I was furious).  We've got 14 contestants cooking to stay in the competition and they WASTE time showing us her walking the gantry with resting b**** face or sitting on the steps.  Really?!?!

I'm over the faux Poh show... time for her to go... along with "always stay safe with pasta" Laura.

  7. I wouldn't have minded the pressure test twist if they had just added one more twist...

At the beginning they were warned to read the recipe to the end, as usual.  The added twist should have been, buried in a paragraph on the second to last page... "Congratulations, you've found the hidden twist!  In the final plating, ONLY plate the passion-fruit pavlova, not the entree-me, and we will know you found and followed this twist.  Continue cooking as though you don't know about this little secret, and do NOT hint at it in any way or you will automatically be judged as a bottom 3... versus other's full desserts."

Hehehe... I've got a devious little mind!!!  But also, removing the recipes wouldn't have been that big a deal in the end.

Thought it might be time to check out the Sportsbet odds again to see if anything has changed in the past few weeks.

    https://www.sportsbet.com.au/betting/novelty-bets/masterchef-australia/masterchef-australia-2020-back-to-win-5042016

Reynold being odds-on at this early stage doesn't surprise me and Poh being part of the top three is probably a given.  Laura will make it a long way (hopefully not because of Jock).  But Reece at number five and Callum in the bottom six?  I can't see how that could possibly happen!

We outside of Australia can't access sportsbet.  Any chance you could copy and paste in future posts so we can see for ourselves?  (I'm really curious where Tessa comes in 😉 )

I thought we were in for more Faux Poh drama when the challenge was announced and she immediately had a 10 minute talking head about how she can't taste things. But it was no faux! She get A LOT of screen time. I don't know how I am gonna feel if she win. My main concern is that she was a mentor employed by the show last season and I can't get around that.

How can no one know why Ben was arrested? Do they not have tabloids in AU?

It wasn't just the screen time, she was the most tweeted about on their Twitter page, too.  (I read that to keep up to date while I wait for the episode to become available.)

From what I was able to read, Ben will be there until about the halfway point before his arrest.  Poh stays in longer because she was there during COVID filming.  BTW, it also results in the judge's finally get separate plates to keep them safe.

Toooo many questions are roaming in my head , if each contestant has a helper why sometimes they forget to put spices ? And i remember in the last seasons they have been told to clean their benches Many times

I was always wondering how can they keep the dishes hot or cold while waiting for the judges to call them so it’s totally normal

I figured the dishes were placed in hot or cold storage until the judges were ready.  I noticed long ago the contestants stand behind empty counters during judging... except the one who gets called up.

Sarah T copped an incredible amount of Facebook abuse in her season (mainly due to the flopping messy hair but there were so many other things) but I still really like her because she is articulate, an excellent narrator and so very passionate about food and cooking so I hope she goes far.  She just needs to pick up some plating skills stat!

I agree about her being articulate.  However, I'm not a fan of how she comes across in her private interviews, it's a very 'forced' excitement.  We see her speak outside of there and she's nowhere near the same.  I just wish she'd talk to 'us' like she does the judges.

I haven't watched the episode yet, only saw the Twitter pics, WHY do they have to tweet so many of Poh?  Where was the 'wow' in any of those dishes?  Harry was the only one who looked like they tried to take it over the top, the rest were just cooked food.  Oh, and the picture they posted of Poh's pie looked dry, I wouldn't want to touch it.

Yes, Reynold is very big on teeny-weeny! Heheh!

Out of interest to overseas viewers, during the show last night they were advertising for contestants for a new edition of Junior Masterchef.  Obviously since the show has become very popular all over again, they're going to ride this wave while they can.

Have you seen the US version of MasterChef Junior?  I'm just wondering how much different it is.  Here, they have team relays that result in the winning team getting to dump stuff on the judges.  It's very kid forward and friendly, even with Gordon as one of the judges... he only yells (no swearing) during their service challenges.  😄

  13. The editors of MC must have agreed with me on Sarah T's dish, that it looked like a dog turd, because the next day's episode had only the chopped fresh tomatoes shown next to a sliver of brown as the winning immunity dish during the 'previously on' segment.  Seriously, that was all they decided to show!!!  *facepalm*  I did laugh at Ben's dish, along with everyone else... that was funny, and I don't usually laugh out loud.

During the triple challenge, it was really nice to get to see Tessa cook for a change.  She was my favorite last year and I'm really hoping she goes far, or even wins it this year.  I'm also hoping that those contestants who haven't had much airtime will be the ones going farther, and those with the drama are only being featured now because they leave sooner.  Ten episodes of Poh's near catastrophes is more than enough airtime, in my opinion.   I know there are a lot of contestants, but some have been invisible.  I watch the opening credits and think... have they been eliminated, where are they?

Was I the only one who said out loud, "keep it up, Jock" when he described Tessa's dish to the audience?  Doesn't he realize the whole point of them being judges on a TV show is that there is a home audience that wants to know, too?????  I think they all need to sit down and watch a few episodes... or even a season... of MasterChef UK to see how a judge describes a dish properly.

  14. To be fair, I wouldn't have been able to name off any of the ingredients in that curry.  I've never had one and probably never will...  I can't eat peppers of any kind, so that leaves me out on a lot of dishes.

I know most of you are happy that Sarah won immunity, but to be honest and fair, I'm not so sure I am.  Sure, she's a great gal and chef... but did you LOOK at her dish!?!?   A dog turd sitting between a puddle of yellow mustard and some chopped up fresh tomatoes.   Come on!!!  Khahn had the same ingredients and he was able to grill up the spring onions and make up some kind of mousse, besides having the meat and a sauce.

With the judge's poor descriptions, all we are left to judge the dishes by is how they look... and her's look like s**t, literally!  Sorry.... lol

Andy just shovels in giant bites and it's completely irrational how much this annoys me.

It seems like Gordon really did prop up these three in the first week because left on their own they are flailing. But none of them are George so that's a huge plus.

Honestly, I don't know which annoys me more.... Andy shoveling in huge bites or Melissa's prim and proper smaller bites being shoved in between bright red lips... so bright they draw my attention (what can I say, I get bored waiting to hear "fantastic flavor!').  Her top lip reminds me of the tip of an elephant's nose.  You know, that little nubby finger-like thing that grabs a-hold of things.  😄

I think it's time, especially now that this pandemic is upon us, that the contestants prepare 3 separate dishes for the judges.  I believe it will test them further on their ability to maintain consistency.  It will also allow the judges the opportunity to sample every element without cross contamination or using up a dozen spoons per dish.

  16. Am I the only one who though Harry's dish looked like a baby croc?

I'm with everyone else about the judge's poor ability to describe what they are tasting.  I know why Andy has such a difficult time, he shovels in half the dish in one bite.  He has no idea what any of the separate elements taste like, there's nothing left.  Melissa is suppose to be a food writer, where are her words?  Poor Jock does the best he can, but when the other two rely on him to start most of the critiques so they can agree with him, it's putting a lot of pressure on him.

I'm glad they changed it to taste everyone's dish in the mystery box challenge, but where were Tessa, Jess, Reece and I don't know who else that made what else.

I may have missed the rationale of her choice, if she explained it (I have this show on the background while I do other things) but I didn't quite get her dish. It did look like a beautiful cake (and apparently it was tasty, so good on her) but it was basically a cake with filling, frosting and decor, and it seems most of the time was needed for cooking the cake and cooling the cake.

So while I get the idea of "using all of my 90 minutes to make an impressive dish" I didn't feel that this particular dish looked like it was worth that risk, when you think of all the other dishes she could have done in 90 minutes (or all the dishes she could have done in half the time).

Well, it paid out, so I guess she made the right choice in the end, but I was not that impressed.

I'm with you, I wasn't impressed by Poh's dish either.  It wasn't frosting, it was whipped cream... and she did a pretty bad job of spreading it out evenly or smooth.  When I saw her finished product, all I could think was "that's it?".  Every summer I buy fresh strawberries, an angel food cake and some Cool Whip to have 'strawberry shortcake' (I'm not a fan of the 'cups' or the drier biscuit form).  So she spent 90 minutes making what I can buy and make at home... aside from the lychees (never had or seen one here).  Oh!, and I also wasn't impressed with her bouquet, either... completely drenched in edible flowers?  *puke*

I never saw her season, only got to see her as a guest mentor and she did nothing to spark my interest in her.  Seemed strange to me that so many contestants were in awe of her, and I got the feeling when this season started that she thinks she's better than everybody else.  Watching her forget her chili oil that 'brings the dish together' and then her breaking the tart shells that she makes ALL the time in her shop, on top of this 'risk taking' fiasco, she can go any time and I won't miss her.  I am not a fan!  Besides... I really don't like watching people who laugh with their mouths so wide open that their jaw is resting in their lap.  😄

What is that and where do I find it?

Would love to see Dave on US Survivor, but I don't see how any other players would let him stick around very long. They should do a season with players from around the world.

RHAP is "Rob has a Podcast".  Rob Cesternino is a former American (2-time) Survivor player who has become more famous by covering several reality shows and getting interviews.  He's won several awards for the work he's done.  Give his website a google search and give a listen.

BTW, Australian Survivor is hosted by Shannon Guss, not Rob... he can't possibly cover them all alone.

On Mo's Jury Villa, they had her give her "speech" and it was so bad. More of her "invisible game" stuff with her sulking in the shelter where no one would notice her, but she could hear and watch everything. The table was less than impressed. Neither of these ladies stood a chance, and rightly so.

Mo looked devastated in the reunion. I think she still believes if she could have just gotten to the final, she could have won. Um, no.

She believes that because she had the jury stacked with friends and figured they'd all vote for her the same way she voted for her friend, Sharn.  Guess she found out the hard way that jury members tend to vote on 'game'... they know the public will see it and judge them if they don't.

BTW, Shonee posted on IG that it was Moana that voted for Sharn.

Shonee seems like she might be a bitter jury member.   Gone is her giddy personality and she now seems to have a scowl on her face at all times.  They showed her a couple of times giving everyone death glares.

I want to bring this up in my last post, I wonder why by in large the women dominate Australian Survivor and the men seem to dominate American Survivor.  I am talking overall there have been far more men who have won US Survivor and there have been three women who have won Australian Survivor.  The Aussie seasons also tend to be run by the women.  Is it a cultural thing?  Does Australian Survivor tend to cast stronger women (Not just in physical strength, but overall.  Meaning women who are more leaders than followers.) instead of just going for the pretty girls.  It is just very interesting to me.

I believe it is a cultural thing.  Aussies work to live, not live to work.  They spend much more time with their families and therefore are more respectful of others naturally, be they men or women, young or old, any race, etc.

Americans live to work and are ruthless to get whatever they want.  Kids are raised with no discipline or respect for anyone.  Many women are still battling to break through the glass ceiling and be shown they are just as capable (in many cases more-so) then men.  There are still many, for instance Mormons, that think women must be subservient to men.  This is 2020 and the House keeps having to fight for the equal rights amendment for women (namely abortion - a bunch of men should not get to rule what a woman does with HER body.  IMO, if that's the way they want to rule, fine... every rapist gets his d*** cut off... NO EXCEPTIONS)!!!!

I digress... sorry.  If you listen to the 'sob stories' in both versions, Aussies are all about their families and how they are doing it for them, American's are all about how they've been ostracized by their family because they 'came out'.   Blah, blah, blah... wah, wah, wah.  Just get on with the show already...

    Dave's gotta win!   😄
