  1. I am very sad this show is ending, but since it has got to its end game (Bess becoming President) I understand it. Sad nonetheless.

But focusing on the positive, I enjoyed this premiere, although I will admit it was a bit confusing with the flashbacks so I had to watch it a second time once I figured out the strategy they are going for.

I missed Ali, Kat and Jay terribly, but Matt not so much - as I was watching it I kept thinking to myself: "who's missing, I feel like there was another character but who the Hell is it?!" Drove me crazy until I re-watched the first episode of the second season - then I was like Matt!

I wasn't super surprised Bess chose Senator Morejon because I figured with Ali and the Senator's son (whose name escapes me) were dating at the end of last season and theoretically got to know each other better in a non-rival way. (Of course that all depends when Ali left for her internship...)

I am perhaps in the minority but I adore Mike B,, for as aggressive as he is I believe he has a heart and wants the absolute best for Bess and team. He also provides some necessary comic relief.

I am stunned that no one prepped Henry for the Colbert appearance, sort of running through any possible situations / questions / or trip ups he could pull. Especially since this is the very first First Gentleman. Henry looked so uncomfortable on Colbert but he should have had the presence of mind not to put the hat on.

Blake, honey ROTUS - No just NO. You're downgrading yourself (in my opinion).

RUSSELL!! I legit squealed when I saw Bess go to Russell and he accepted! I realize in the real-world this would never happen but for a TV show I loved it!!

I can't wait for the rest of the season!

  3. A few thoughts / observations from this episode:

I wholeheartedly agree with others who have stated Liza appears to be regressing to her 26 year old assistant self. It's almost as if she's going through a mid-life crisis, now that she's moved up to a position of authority / responsibility. Now that she's with Charles, and Josh has accepted this fact she's pinning for Josh. Make a damn decision Liza, this isn't cute anymore.

I'm not sure who's worse, Liza or Kelsey: Liza for showing Charles' book to Kelsey as a possible pitch, or Kelsey for not honoring Liza's request of not mentioning it to Charles without giving her thoughts to Liza. It wasn't Liza's damn business anyway...

Speaking of Kelsey, I am probably in the minority but I am not buying Kelsey as the publisher, not at all.

And for all that is Holy - HOW does Diana STILL NOT KNOW about Liza's age?!

Speaking of Diana - I am THRILLED for her and Enzo, but she has to let Charles go!

The only thing I liked about this episode was them flying to St. Ignace. The lady at the ferry station seemed particularly excited to see the crew. I've always wanted to go to Mackinac Island, but definitely not in winter! And then I wondered if Tullulah had ever actually stayed in a motel before. At least it looked fairly new, and not a dump.

As for the actual catfishing, Kristina sucks for cheating on Sami, and Sami sucks for lying to Kristina her and entrapping her. They both have issues, and I think it's good that they broke up.

So I've read on here that the producers know everything beforehand and contact the catfish before they go to film. So does that mean that they knew Sami was the catfish? Did Nev know? He looked fairly surprised.

The producers more than likely know everything but keep Nev and co-host in the dark to get their true reactions. Although that said, Tallulah's reaction didn't seem all that shocked, so who knows.

Mathan seemed flaming to me, so I’m not buying he was into her.  They probably chatted when they were bored and then he thought the salacious details would help his aspirations to act.  The fact that they met after the show and deleted the pic is suspicious.

If that is even remotely true (I fully realize you're stating a theory, not a suggestion nor implying) that is THE LOWEST thing anyone could do to another person. I would NEVER watch anything he was ever in.

  6. Random though rattling around the ol' noggin:

At the end of last season when Charles asked Liza if she thought Kelsey was capable running Millennial, do you think Liza was aware of what Charles was thinking (making Millennial the flagship company and Kelsey THE BIG BOSS) or do you think Liza was unaware of the complete plan an was specifically referring to the imprint only?

Because if the former, Kelsey's snip to Liza about how her being blind when it comes to Charles - she needs to take a seat and STFU (IMO of course).

Even with the terrible name, I think it's a no brainer that Liza should take the other job. She could at least work there a year or two and then come back to Milennial. Everything would have worked out much better if she'd gone over there. Plus, we could have had some delightful "martha plimpton is a crazy boss" moments and then see Kelsey and Liza compete over authors. It would be great to see Liza gain even half the confidence in herself that she has in Kelsey. If they both kind of landed on equal footing career-wise but at different firms, it could take the show into a really smart direction where we have to look at whether being younger is better than being older as they compete against each other in the ever-shrinking world of publishing. The name of the show would still work but in a different way.  I can think of a number of really great plotlines that could come from them being at competing firms. Friends but also professional competitors.

And the whole Josh fantasy was nutty. Sutton Foster and I are the same age. I do NOT want kids anymore. I also am not terribly sure I could even physically have kids anymore. Yes, I know that Brigette Nielson just had a baby and she's in her 50s. But my 43 year old body is dunzo with babies. Beating that dead horse is so silly.

I think the show needs to hire you as a writer / Creative Director! Your proposal of a story line is brilliant!

I think Kevin had been divorced/separated from Sophie for 12 years in season 1. They were 36 in season 1 so Kevin and Sophie had been apart since they were 24. I think Beth and Randall were at least 25 (met @ 18, dated at least 7 years) when they married so that explains why Sophie wasn't there.

That would explain it. Thank you.

    Nitpick.

Why couldn't we see Beth's siblings? I mean Beth is standing there and who is next to her? Kate!! Why not her sister(s)/Zoe?

This is as irritating as Randall proclaiming "We're getting another Pearson" when he got the news that Kate was pregnant. No Randall, you are getting a Damon!

    Rant over.

I came here to post a similar question! It was so odd to me that Beth chose Kate as her MOH! I was immediately like: "where's Zoe? Where's Sophie? Where are Beth's other siblings?

I honestly don't think that will ever happen as Chuck Lorre seems to want to forget that Christy ever had kids. When people complained about not seeing Violet and Roscoe, he gave us an episode in which Violet basically said she didn't want her mother in her life and wouldn't care if she fell off the face of the earth.

Did they ever say where Roscoe is? Did they mention it when they visited Violet a while back?

  11. As others have stated, Mike comes across as a horrible person and IS a horrible Catfishee! I say comes across because I read his actions as hoping to get his own reality show. His extremely high opinion of himself would definitely make him think this would happen. Granted it would be work, but he would become a beloved celebrity with everyone fawning over him (yeah, right!).

I agree Carrey's daughter comes across as a very genuine and likable person, I really liked her but also agree she didn't bring much as a co-host. That said, I feel like she might have brought more if it wasn't with this clown's episode.

  13. I echo others' comments in regards to Darlene being rude for salting the paella.

While Darlene was rude for not at least trying the red wine with the paella, Ben should have been a gracious host and opened the bottle of white for her.

The shoe thing I totally get, but I don't insist my guests remove their shoes if they aren't comfortable (mainly because I quickly run my swiffer steamer over the floors after they leave).

    But I do wonder:

If the paella was made with vegan ingredients and Darlene was expecting it to be bland - again doesn't excuse her actions - she should have salted her own serving.

Why Ben served wine with a vegan dish since wine isn't vegan.

That was the most disappointing part of the finale for me. C'mon Liza, find a way to tell Diana! Of all the people, she would probably be the only one who would shrug it off.

I mean, is Diana just going to find out about Liza's lie next season when she watches her on The View?!

IKR! Actually I believe she knows but for whatever reason is keeping quiet about it. If memory serves Kelsey told Liza when they first met that Diana lied about her age - granted only a couple of year but still...

I've seen elsewhere that Diane is not a publisher or editor, she's a head of the marketing and PR, so that's why.

Point taken....that said so is Charles (a publisher and editor - presumably on the latter) and look what a stellar job he has done with it.

  16. So if I'm following this correctly: Millennial is now the parent company and Empirical is the subsidiary and Kelsey is the new big boss running everything, completely disregarding Diana the most competent person to fill that position (at least IMO)?

  17. I'm wondering: If Cheryl and Diana knew each other from when they were beginning their careers, and Cheryl and Liza were co-workers at that same time, I'm wondering if Diana remembers Liza from years ago (they may not have worked at the same company, but like most industries, most of the players know or know of each other)?

I love Sutton and Caitlin is a pill, but YEAH.

I was trying to include the quote from @thesupremediva1 about how nobody was believing this woman is 26 but I could figure out how to do it (technologically challenged, lol).

Uh Caitlin dear, you really shouldn't make snide comments about your mother's appearance, especially since YOU look like a middle aged woman! Your mother looks a 1000x younger/prettier than you.

  19. Here are my thoughts on last nights episode:

I feel like Kelsey was trying to deliberately mess with Charles & Liza's relationship by emphasizing his status as single when Quinn inquired. Liza's response was very professional with a hint of "bitch mind your damn business", how did she say it: nothing publicly? However she worded it - it was spot on. Speaking of Quinn, I realize she is suppose to be this real go-getter and aggressive personality and probably doesn't care what people think of her, but to me that seemed a very unprofessional question to ask. I mean she's all about think of number one and no one else, and do what you want. So why bother asking?

I'm not so sure Charles & Liza were keeping things as secret as they think they were. When have we ever seen Liza sit in Charles' office, especially by herself for any length of time The exchanges (in his office) have always been very quick and didn't warrant her to sit. That is something I feel other employees would definitely notice including her relaxed demeanor since she was always kind of "on guard" when she was around him in the past. And did anyone else feel like Diana is sort of picking up hints about Charles & Liza? I thought she might have listened for a minute to their conversation before she barged into his office.

I do understand why Charles was to keep his relationship with Liza a secret especially where Quinn is concerned, I'm sure she would pull her financial investment once she knew she was out of the running relationship wise, and if that is the case that is a dick move.

Caitlin needs to go away. I don't find her to be an enjoyable character.

  20. A friend recently asked me which team I was, and after giving it some thought I realized I'm neither because I can see the appeal of both. That said I do feel as though the writers / producers haven't given Charles and Liza the time to develop as a couple the way they did with Josh. If memory serves (and please feel free to correct if it doesn't), the first three seasons we saw Liza & Josh's relationship develop as it would IRL (or at least on a TV show), but they just put Liza and Charles together and *BAM* they have their first real relationship challenge (the claw chick), I'm not sure they will survive this and I am disappointed because I have always wondered how that dynamic would work out.

Additionally I'm not real thrilled with Josh at the moment he does seem to be a little manipulative as of late. I didn't like it (or him) one bit last season when he was blackmailing Liza with her lie, it came across as I lied for you so you owe me this. I would expect this from a frenemy NOT a true friend or someone you deeply cared about. Now it seems like Josh is only interested in Liza because 1). He's coming off of the high of Claire and the crashing of that relationship and 2). He doesn't want to see / hear  about Liza being with Charles because he still has resentment towards him from the Hamptons (even though Josh did give her a free pass because he didn't want her to feel like she missed out on anything).

We'll see how tonight's episode goes.

Lauren is still the only one in that circle that doesn't know Liza's secret, correct? I'm surprised it hasn't slipped out in passing between Liza, Kelsey, Josh and Maggie. I realize Diana doesn't know, I was talking more about her social circle.

I think Kelsey’s good at actually editing, but terrible at the other things that would make her a good head of an imprint. She’s lost several authors with her stupid behavior, doesn’t make good connections at networking events, and always needs an eleventh hour Hail Mary not to run Millennial into the ground.

Yes, this is what I was attempting to say. Thank you for so eloquently stating what I failed to. :)

Kelsey is an editor and we've seen her edit the English translation of Anton Bjornberg's book, she edited Colin's book and caused a bidding war over it by making much much better, and she's editing Jake's book. She also helped to poach the author who was writing Tom Clancy/Robert Ludlum-esque books and encouraged him to add a female protagonist. So she's good at her job, but she has terrible personal and professional boundaries.

Thank you HunterHunted for the reminder, I had temporarily forgotten about those facts and as @dubbel zout commented, I apparently was only seeing the terrible dating choices the writers want us to see/focus on.

  23. I have watched this show since the beginning and admittedly I don't have the memory capacity a lot of you do in remembering story details (jealous!), but there is one thing that I have been wondering about this season in particular: With Liza doing a fabulous editing job with the poodle book, and Marriage Vacation, combined with her idea for the Reese Witherspoon movie/rights deal, does anyone else wonder if Kelsey is really even that good at her job? I realize Kelsey is ambitious and the head of Millennial and she gets all the praise and glory publicly for running a successful imprint (I know Liza shys away from the attention), but with her questionable dating choices - which some could have been potentially bad for the company - what would happen if Liza wasn't there?

I'm NOT saying Liza is the saving grace, but it does seem that her skills and creativity are carrying Millennial.

I do like Kelsey but I think she either needs a slap upside the head or an epiphany to strike her.
