  1. Given the current Coronavirus situation, I would think this would be GOLD for the producers of DCC: MTT! What a great way to refresh it and get everybody interested in it again - do a 4 or 5 episode special season intro about the unique challenges AND opportunities that the #COVID19 quarantines and social distancing posed in the audition and tryout process, with a MUCH deeper dive into that process than we've seen in the past, THEN pick up from the Training Camp announcements as usual and go through TC, including, if needed, how TC and the start of the season was/will be impacted by the Coronavirus quarantine delays on events.

I hate to say it without knowing their personalities but they all seem to kind of blend, so far.  Sadly, that seems like the direction the DCC has been going for the last few seasons.

AGREE with this so much! I feel like I don't know hardly ANY of the returning vets from last year because they didn't really focus on many of them, it was all the "Victoria and Dayton Show." They used to give nice little glimpses into many of the TCC. Wish they would do that again.

Has she actually said that on the show?  I’ve seen this said about Kelli over and over and am just curious as to the source.

Kelli has mentioned this to various girls during uniform fittings. Vivian was one that stands out (the first season Vivian tried out) but there have been others. "Our girls your height are xxx pounds ..." I think Liz Reuter (not sure of the first season she tried out) was another she mentioned the height/weight comparison to.

Sad that girls from Dallas have nothing else to do. LMAO!

Maybe she means that Dallas doesn't have the kind of professional dance and performance opportunities that the coasts do?

Definitely not 500 girls. A picture doesn’t lie

Wow! That is DEFINITELY down from years past! But the prospect of there only being seven open positions (barring any veterans not invited back to TC or being cut during TC) kept many of the marginal dancers away? I wonder how much of an effect the prospect of being on DCC: MTT has had on audition attendance?

There will also be the 27 different ways we will not so subtly be told that there was no favoritism (for a refresher or a drinking game they will sound like: she did it one her own merit, proved to the judges, everyone loved her routine, flawless, best legs, that girl was clearly in her space and it wasn’t at all VK being out of control, etc.).

Also the "legacies have it tougher because ... " line. Jay mentioned at one of the judging sessions last year about Victoria being heavy and said he expects the highest standards of legacy cheerleaders, since they HAVE lived with it all their lives and they know, better than anyone, the standards.

I agree!  She also does mock written tests and brings in alumni to coach on presentation and technique.  I would say taking her class every week would be worth the money.  She, like Sarah G, tells it like it is, which is what girls trying out need and it is what they are paying for.

It is okay for Kelli to be critical of the girls because it is a part of her job. She may not do it in the best way and we may not like what she says or how she says it, but it is part of her job as director. We, as fans, are the ones who have no right to be critcal of the girls. And, like it or not, a lot of what is said by fans is just as critical and unreasonable (and many times even more so) as what Kelli says. Look at how much Maddie was raked over the coals as being too heavy and not having a 'DCC body' this past season (with at least one poster saying flat out she should have never been a DCC because she doesn't have a DCC body). We say we don't want Kelli to be so harsh and hypercritcal of the girls, but the exact same things (and worse) are said here and on other fan sites over and over. If she wasn't so stringent there would be even more complaints about girls being "overweight" and not having a DCC body. Doesn't make what she is doing right, but I can see the why in it.

And I've been biting my tongue on this for a long time, but it really isn't fair to put all the blame on Kelli and DCC when these girls do develop problems. It takes a certain personality and many other factors (one of which is the DCC environment) to develop these problems. If it was really all DCC's fault, 36 out of 36 girls (or a far higher number than do) would be developing these problems each year. Still doesn't make the DCC environment correct or healthy, but they aren't fully to blame either.

Eating disorders and an obsession with thinness, fitness, etc., are not unique to DCC. There have been hundreds of column inches written by former members of famous ballet companies, by former gymnasts, by former members of other dance and performance troupes, about their own battles with eating disorders and striving to stay thin and fit in order to keep performing and stay qualified under very strict weight and body shape requirements.
I think the most honest anyone ever has been about how the girls battle to stay thin came in two scenes - one was a girl at the first day auditions who was waiting for the board to be brought out and she mentioned if she saw her number, she'd be eating tuna and celery "again," but if not, she was going have a cheeseburger. The other was when Kelsey (not black-haired Kelsey but the one before her, with reddish-brown hair, who had stomach troubles and lost a bunch of weight) was eating a Combo pretzel snack as she drove to practice and mentioned that was her supper.

Totally agree with you regarding the choreo. TPTB are not utilizing the skill set of these women adequately. They are so talented in so many areas.  I realize that the style is Power-Pom, but spice it up already!

Absolutely. I mean, we watch the solos during auditions, which are absolutely brilliant and showcase the incredible talents and physical abilities, then they go into training camp and learn what seems like pretty basic choreo to these routines.

  10. I wonder if/how the choreo will change now that Michelle Keys is out of the picture? I am absolutely NO expert whatsoever on dance or choreography but it seems like the dance steps and the choreo has gotten kind of outdated and repetitive over the last few years. I'm sure it's tough to learn all the steps the DCC has to learn in a season but it seems like they keep doing the same things. I'm so sick of Thunderstruck I could just cry.

Also, did someone get released under the radar? It seems like Jinelle has danced in almost every game this season. Is it just because we notice Jinelle more, whether as a regular DCC or an All Star, than we did past All Stars who were filling in or have there been that many absences and illnesses/injuries this season? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Jinelle and she has always been one of my favorites but it seems like she's danced a lot more in a single season than any of the other All Stars.

On 12/26/2018 at 2:06 PM, MyFavShows said:

Her role this season has been very odd.  They’ve had all stars that have performed in multiple games before - like Emma did it a lot the season after she retired - but Jinelle is taking it to a whole new level.  Like it seems like she’s doing EVERYTHING with the team versus just showing up to do Thunderstruck at games.

She’s giving me a serious “refuses to get on w/ her life and would be a DCC forever if she could” vibe.  How old is she again?

I'm curious about this too. She's at least 31. The Daily Mail Australia did an interview with her in late December 2014 and she was 27 then. I love seeing her, it just seems we've seen her a lot this season. And, I suppose, social media wasn't around to the extent it is now so we didn't see how often Emma or some of the other All Stars performed during a single season.

So you think this might be the new CMT banner for the show?????

That is VERY interesting, ESPECIALLY after the very awkward "ad" for Cowboys Fit during the swimsuit episode last season. I wouldn't go so far as to say Victoria was cut with an eye toward that, I don't think CMT tips their hand on whether they're renewing until they see viewer numbers and advertising dollars from the season - and see what advertiser commitments they have for a prospective next season - but if they do renew, this is an interesting preview of a possible/likely storyline.

Season 10 was KaShara's rookie season, as well as Holly P, who's gone, Robin, who's gone, Megan, who's gone, Jackie, Jax, Selena, Stephanie, who are all gone. I think Amy and Kash are the only two members of the Season 10 rookies still on the team.  (OK, I am actually watching the final episodes on Amazon to do this for all you you! SUCH a sacrifice, lol!)

I totally get you. It really is the same show every year. Because of it, I think a lot of us have some degree of DCC: MTT fatigue. We're so familiar with it that it makes it easier to notice when something odd, inauthentic, illogical, or seemingly out of character happens. I realize it's hard to keep this kind of thing fresh, and I do appreciate some of the tweaks they made this year. It's probably difficult to cater to both new watchers and those who've been watching for 14 years. They have to cover the basics (....yes/no/maybe...) but the basics are hella boring.

"its so much "show" in the show." <-- that's it, in a nutshell. I'd like some reality with my "reality" please, LOL. I would totally watch a documentary.

That was really good -well done.

(I assume the title is meant to be Roster Reveal not Roster Real.)

Sorry, JUST catching up since computer gremlins erased my bookmarks and my password to this site.
And YES, SleepyJean, yes!! I so agree with you!
I don't know whether it was the atrocious editing this year or the fact that none of the rookies really stood out as unique or the fact that it seemed to take FORRREEEEVVVVEEEERRRRR to get to the roster announcement (in reality, they announced it AFTER the Cowboys played their first home game?), but DCC:MTT seemed really tired and tedious this year. There are a hundred ways they could keep each season fresh and interesting but it seems like someone is running out of ideas or imagination or energy or all of it.
The "ad" during the swimsuit episode for Cowboys Fit was just ... embarrassing. I remember they did those kind of ads for the then-new DCC fitness DVDs and it was just as embarrassing then. And we keep seeing the studio rehearsals. OK, we get that part. Let's see the group practices, let's see how the "sausage" is made, ie how the routines are choreographed, the trial and error of putting steps together for the various routines. Let's see some of the run-up to the actual first day of auditions, the DCC prep classes. Let's see a typical work day for Kelli and/or Judy. Let's see an episode on diet, what do they eat to stay so thin yet have the energy to dance for four hours at a game? How about fitness? How DOES Lauren get and keep those abs? Let's see the game day preparation, hair and makeup. Let's see a typical weekday practice DURING the season, do they review film, like the players? Do they still get critiques?
I follow Michelle Keys Greaves's Instagram and she has posts on there about getting makeup done for the DCC episodes this season and waiting to film segments for it and you see how much, more than probably any of us realize, the show is staged and posed and planned and how very little "reality" goes into it. I LOVE DCC:MTT, I adore it, and always will but it really needs to be freshened up.

I followed her on Insta for awhile but the photos have gotten trashier and trashier. I mean, it's her choice but this doesn't seem like a step UP from DCC in any way at all.

Who's out today? I saw Jinelle (all-star) in the Pro Bowl announcement video.

I wonder what the deal is with Jinelle this season, it seems like she's danced in almost every game, at least on the field. Are they using 37 cheerleaders? I can't see Kelli and Judy being too tolerant of someone(s) missing that many games (that Jinelle would be subbing for). I'm happy to see her, she's always been one of my favorites, but I just wondered if she'd changed her mind about retiring (after the team was announced)?

If there's only 9 or 10 retiring this year, I wonder who they'll be.  We already know about KaShara and Lacey so there's 2.  That means there 7 or 8 left to announce.  At one point, Christina, Lexie, Maddie, Miranda, and Tasha were all rumored to be retiring, but Miranda said she was reauditioning if I'm remembering correctly, so that still leaves four rumored to be retiring.  If those four actually DO retire, that means another 3 or 4 girls who will leave the squad.  I suspect that the squad knows by now exactly WHO is retiring, but will wait until the girls announce it themselves or certain ones just don't show up for auditions. Of the current squad, who are the girls you think will retire and who are the girls you think will get cut if they show up?

I think Christina will retire because she knows she got lucky two years in a row with a lukewarm solo at best both years and the timing of Brennan's cut/Erica's leaving two years back.  Age may have something to do with it, but there are other girls around her age and, from what we've heard, are still going strong with no plans to leave.  If she DOESN'T retire, Christina is the only one I could see cut, especially with the strong rookie class they just had and especially if another strong rookie class comes in.  If any other vet is cut, I will be surprised.

Kelli just got engaged. Lauren is engaged and from her Insta, sounds like her wedding is closer rather than further away. Amy is a multi-year vet. Tasha has had repeated audition-time concerns from the judges, plus she and her husband just bought their first house. I like Christina but I really don't see her being chosen for training camp again over strong rookies. Heather has been there for a while. It just feels like another year where they lose a lot of veterans for various reasons.

She definitely looks camera ready here. I'd like to know if she ever warmed up to her DCC teammates. She sort of strikes me as having the Holly P. attitude, that her dancing is so much better than the others that she doesn't need to be a teammate.

This goes for Michelle’s stuff too.

Any and everything I know about the mechanics of dance and choreo would fit on the head of a very small pin with plenty of room left over for "War and Peace" BUT I agree! All the dances are starting to look the same, boring, the same moves but maybe in a different sequence.

  21. In order to NOT count the hours until Season 13 gets here, I've been watching the old episodes on Amazon (drawback is that Seasons 1-3 aren't available). In one of the last couple of seasons, one of the TC candidates does REALLY well at something, I think it's during a night of Training Camp, and Kelli makes the comment along the lines of "these Mormon girls are a surprise" or something like that, it's not said in a mean way, but in a complimentary way and that's not the exact quote. I know that Maddie (Massingill) is Mormon but who were the others? I was just curious. I do a bit of Mormon history and culture research so I'm interested in anything pertaining to Mormons and their history and religion. I am a HUGE fan of Maddie and I was SO happy to see her come back and make it onto the DCC!!

I haven't and will not rewatch Brennan's exit interview from last year.  That said, I don't recall Kelli saying DCC wasn't a good fit for her.  I thought that conversation was with Whitney a few years ago.  I could be wrong.  But, I do remember getting the impression from Brennan's final comments that she was ready to close the door to the possibility of ever making the team at that time. At any rate, there quite possibly was more to the interview than we were allowed to see.  All I know is many other (televised) exit interviews on the show for girls who've tried out many times and didn't make it seemed to be handled with much more heart felt appreciation and sincere thanks.  If this is her year, BRAVO for her on not giving up on her dream.  If it isn't, then I hope she can peacefully and confidently move on to other things that will be more rewarding and more fulfilling than anything the Cowboys organization could offer.

Kelli did have that convo with Whitney and also with Catherine Dunn and a couple of others.
