  1. How does anyone hate turtles?? They’re so BENIGN. I was surprised when Ali revealed that, almost more than learning Tom went to clown school. Did a gang of them eat his garden or something? LOL.

It was funny, though, when he said if he won he would get one and name it Amar.

  2. I was so nervous for Ali the whole ep. He really needs to get back to form next week — he’s been off his game the past two weeks.

Buddha was such a clear winner there was zero suspense.  I didn’t care for such a gimmicky challenge this late in the season. It seems like it takes a specific skill set to excel at. Nobody but Buddha really succeeded at it, with Gabri kind of doing so.

Most random fact was that Tom went to clown school.

About the worst time to go home: no trip to Paris and no chance with LCK.

Tom said this challenge was made for him. He is for sure not going to France, like it's the kiss of death every time they think its in the bag.

I hope that's true, because I'm fearing for Ali with him seeming so unsure. I hope the editors are faking me out

That would have been me.  I can't take spicy food AT ALL.  To me it's ruder to assume that everyone has the same tolerance for heat.

I was totally feeling Victoire there. I don’t think she refused to eat anything, she just didn’t eat much. I also cannot tolerate spicy food. It is PAINFUL and one bite blows out my taste buds so I can’t taste ANYTHING, just like Victoire said. And then I have extremely unpleasant effects later, not to get detailed, so it can indeed make someone feel ill. I personally thought it was rude of Padma to call attention to it, especially given the serious allergic reaction Victoire had earlier. People have physical reasons that create limitations on what they can eat, like celiac disease or lactose intolerance.

Regardless, when she said she wasn’t going to season the kachumber salad, I knew she was a goner. That was inexplicable. I was sad to see her go, but it was probably the right call (at least based on what we were shown). But sheesh, Gabri has nine lives. He should have been gone by now..

That was a HARD challenge — so many dishes in only 2-1/2 hours.

Amar was a rock star this week and had a blast doing it. Crazy how he won the QF flying by the seat of his pants without a plan. That was really smart and disciplined of him to take some of his extra time to familiarize himself with the ingredients. I think Buddha totally psyched himself out.

I don’t want to see a finale with only chefs from the U.S. Top Chef, but I don’t want Gabri or Tom to sneak in. I really hope Ali is in there. My ideal finale would be Ali, Amar and either Buddha/Sara.

A double elimination in the final 6 of this group? BRUTAL.

Thali is such a fun way to eat. Like a personal buffet.

Really glad I made the decision to have Indian food while I watched this episode!

  5. Whew, so glad Ali’s team won, because he clearly would have gone home otherwise. He definitely had a lot on his plate, rolling filo cigars AND doing a separate lamb dish. Though I can be ambivalent about Amar, I love the Ali/Amar bromance. “They come as a pair.” LOL.

I really, really wanted to try that dessert from the winning team. Basil ice cream and crumbles of whipped cream! I had a fabulous cullen skink when I visited Scotland, so I was intrigued by Sarah’s dish.

I don’t feel super warm toward Buddha (though I don’t dislike him or anything), but I respect the hell out of his skills, preparation and gamesmanship. He was clearly affected by getting the win in this challenge, so that was nice to see.

I am over cheftestant Tom, despite his ability to provide amusing talking heads. Spending all his team’s money, forgetting the basket of produce he had been sent to get and just paid for….

Victoire was so gutted at Nicole being eliminated, it made me sad, even though I wasn’t overly attached to Nicole. Pasta is up there with risotto as Dishes of Death. I thought Gabri’s dish looked a mess. I don’t think cauliflower would have saved it.

I really liked having the secret judge and eliminating the FOH responsibilities as well as having to plan the decor. FOH is such a thankless, sacrificial role (unless you have Fabio!).

Sylwia Peanut Gallery Hall of Fame, first ballot, no doubt.

Kind of wish that the trio theme ingredient had been potato with her observing.

I totally thought they were having her wheel out a bunch of potatoes at first! They missed a prime opportunity. 😂

  7. Wow, I was shocked Charbel is only 25! That really sucks for him to go home the first time he lands in the bottom.

Ugh at the blatant Fast & Furious placement, but it was amusing to see Victoire’s level of fangirl.

I usually love the mise en place race (second only to my fave the blindfolded ingredient identification), but this setup didn’t work as well for me for some reason.

Yellow team clearly did the best at highlighting the individual ingredients, and in interesting ways. I would love to try all of them, but especially Ali’s — peas and potatoes work really well together (samosas!).

Green team totally messed up with their decision to all use lamb.

  8. Amazing looking spread! The dish I most wanted to eat was Charbel's fetteh. It's a dish I make and love -- though of course not as fancy as his. Ali made a lot of components with the mezze and pita. I like his and Amar's bromance.

Buddha didn't really show himself well about being in bottom three.

    I really enjoy this group.

The Six of Crows spinoff would be the Crows investigating the Jurda Parem in Fjerda.

Is that speculation or based on something the producers or actors have said?

Would there be a reason they wouldn’t or couldn’t do that story simultaneously with what’s going on in Ravka like they have been doing? Heaven knows they covered a ton of different stories this season!

And, yes, the bee is significant and a clue to a storyline from the books.

Lamb confessed to Katinsky that he was ordered to stand down- i.e. Do NOT eliminate Partner - however, Lamb killed Partner anyway.

I thought he didn't kill Partner until he got the OK from above. River's granddad was waiting in the car for Lamb when he came out from the hit.

Shirley did have a screwup, she turned her back on the guy on the train and didn't make sure he was actually neutralized before getting Roddy to open the door.

What I don't understand is why the mom stood down in the end. Did she just break? I wouldn't think that would have been the plan, because it would have been better for them to have the chaos of a plane shot down, and I'm sure she was seen as expendable anyway.

Not as good as S1 but I still enjoyed it.

I think the chefs are allowed to bring a few special ingredients to use when possible in the season.  I love that she got local miso in Detroit.  I kind of want to find out from where and go get some myself since I'm close to the border.

Right. Nick brought his spice blend he used several times.

If you ever try Jamon Iberico de Bellota, which is made from pigs fed exclusively acorns, you get the gist of it.  It’s wonderful.  The first time I tried it, my reaction was “this is what acorns must taste like”.

Given that I’m a pescatarian, I’m more likely to eat actual acorns! But that is a very interesting consequence of their diet.
For some reason my mind has decided they taste like chestnuts. But since I haven’t tasted chestnuts, either, that doesn’t really mean anything to me! 😂

  13. It went how I thought it would. Can’t complain with the outcome. Buddha is thoughtful and innovative, and Evelyn made more missteps. A great end to a great and enjoyable season. I’m sad it’s over.

Out of all the dishes, the one I would most want to eat is Sarah’s acorn cake. I’m just really curious what acorn tastes like. It was super intriguing.

Why did most of the talking head interviews look so weird, like they were using bad lighting and 1980s technology to superimpose them on the fake background?  Very distracting.

It really was strange. I could not figure out what that was about. It was definitely distracting.

I am sooooooo sad about Demarr, though it was obvious that was how it was going to go and seems like it was the correct decision. He started so strong and was a definite frontrunner, but he clearly tailed off over the past few weeks. I hope the competition gives him more confidence. I also hope he wins Fan Favorite.

I think any of the remaining three would be a worthy winner, though my money is on Buddha winning.

  15. I really enjoyed watching both chefs this season — they have both cooked some excellent dishes and also serve up terrific talking heads. They both make me laugh! I had to root for Sarah because it would have been brutal to sweep the first part when they both thought that was it, only to have to cook again, win more time, then ultimately lose. So I’m glad she didn’t come up :this short: again. I would love to try both dishes (except for the olive relish, because olives are the most vile flavor in the universe to me. Impressive run for Sarah!

Also: SHOTA! You know they just want to pretend he won last season. I know I do.

  16. I enjoyed the hell out of this show. Gary Oldman was clearly having a blast. Right before Lamb got in the car at the end, the penny dropped for me about who would be waiting. Nice setup for S2.
