  1. Thanks, HartofDixie! It was really bothering me that I couldn't remember or find where I read that story.
  2. I also recall reading somewhere (I have no idea where) that, during the 1984 Olympics, the skaters each got a box of chocolate as a welcome present. Katarina ate some of her chocolates, only to have her coach, who was arriving later, tell her that the box should be intact and full or Katarina would be in trouble. Rosalynn Sumners, who was saving her box to take home as a souvenir, heard of Katerina's situation and gave Katerina her unopened box. I have no idea if this actually happened (I can't find the article/story online), but I want to believe it is true.
  3. Choi did a lovely job. Also, her costume and her music were on point.
  4. I agree, but I fear that Andrea might lack the common sense (and perhaps the decency) to do that. Please, Andrea, prove me wrong!
  5. Choi's dress is the prettiest one I've seen this Olympics (and maybe all season).
  6. Gabby, if Andrea interviews you and tries to make you cry, please punch her. I'd give you a gold medal for that.
  7. Poor Gabby Daleman. I am having a hard time watching this because she is having such a hard time.
  8. The music is beautiful and haunting, but I always feel like the skaters are banking on its evocative nature and the emotion that is part of the film. I've felt this way since Katerina Witt skated to it back in the 1990s.
  9. Even if someone is amazing when skating to "Papa Can You Hear Me?", I will never be able to hear the song (or see the performance) and not think of Nelson Muntz on The Simpsons singing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oy2HvTsYT4
  10. I don't know if "The Prayer" has been used that often in figure skating competitions, but it feels like it has. Can we add it to the list of songs that should be banned on the basis that it seems very cliched?
  11. What is it with the French and costume changes? If I recall correctly, Laurine Lecavelier, another skater from French, skated to Grease and had a costume change during that number.
  12. He talked about how you can't miss in the short program if you want to be taken seriously on the international stage. He also mentioned that you shouldn't give away that you made a mistake right after the performance because it gives the judges permission to be harsher. He ended with "If you're not selling it, no one can buy it." It was especially funny when he mock-yelled "Take me seriously!" after Tanith compared him to the Muppets.
  13. I like honest/grumpy (his term) Scott! It was also cute that Tanith said that Scott's version of grumpy is akin to the hecklers in the balcony on The Muppets.
  14. Now Olympic Ice is interviewing Paul Wylie. This is quite a stroll down memory lane.
  15. According to this video from the 1994 Olympics, they are (in part) responsible for the trend of dying on the ice.
  16. Kristi Yamaguchi is being interviewed on Olympic Ice. She actually looks better now than she did in 1992 (no mall bangs :).
  17. I'd actually like for her (or anyone) to punch Andrea in the face :).
  18. I don't think Charlie is in PeyongChang. When Scott made a comment on Olympic Ice that he missed Tanith (she was with Terry getting ready for the ice dance competition), Charlie said jokingly that Scott shouldn't complain since Charlie and Tanith weren't even in the same country. ETA: COESpiral, Dots and Stripes, and OmeletsMom beat me to it :).
  19. I wonder if Johnny secretly (or perhaps not-so-secretly) wanted to take over that performance. I can see him being personally affronted that she didn't sell/channel Beyonce.
  20. Do you think the judges at skating events ever get tired of the skaters playing to them? I know it is part of engaging the audience, but if I were a judge, I think I'd want to tell them, "Stop making creepy eye contact and pointing/gesturing to/biting your finger at me!"
  21. I thought the exact same thing when I saw her, and then Johnny told Terry that he needs the headpiece. How much do you want to bet that he will be wearing it the next time we see him?
  22. I don't know how I feel about Paganini's ensemble. On one hand, I like the blue part of her dress. On the other hand, the beading and the sleeves give me a Heidi vibe.
  23. I really hate Andrea and her awful, awful interviews, particularly when she interviews skaters after they have faltered. I compare her skills with Scott Hamilton, who did such a nice job with Nathan Chen, and just shake my head.
  24. Johnny's hair is very elaborate. I don't think I've ever had an updo that fancy.
  25. After watching the awkward top-3 sitting area during this Olympics, I have a newfound appreciation for the lounge with the puppy at Nationals this year. While it seemed ridiculous at first, you could tell that puppy helped ease the tension. It also gave the people who had competed something to do and focus on.
