In the case of Vivian, I think she did the dreaded Tin Man solo in Season 9? because she thought she was going to make it into TC by the fan vote alone. She also thought she was going to make the team because *gasp* her "fans" voted her into TC.

Interesting angle that I've never thought about.  It's a no-brainer that her tin man solo was staged for some unknown reason - I just assumed it was for manufactured show drama.

The girls are too busy I would hope to care about looky-loo's  - unless the gym customers have their noses pressed up against the glass, lol.

It actually might condition them to being watched as a DCC. Even if they've performed in front of crowds before, being a DCC I imagine gets a lot more notice and you have to be used to getting stared at.

I was going to say the same thing.  I would think the ladies are either accustomed to the attention or are in the process of normalizing it.  This job demands being able to perform under intense scrutiny.  For performers, they may actually enjoy the attention.

I'm glad Madeline made it back this season. She seems really sweet.

I love her too!  I remember voting for her on the fan vote during her first year of tryouts - she has always impressed me with her dancing.  I'm glad they finally got her look right and she matured a bit from that first year so she could finally be a part of the team.

Did see in the DCC newsletter noted above that they showed the original 2 hour pilot which I remember watching.  They would know who owns it in order for them to acquire the rights to show the movie to the former DCC.  Wonder if there is anyway it can be released for us to buy?

I would LOVE to get my hands on the first 2-hour special from 2005!  I've never seen it.  HELP!!!  :)

Now, as for Kalyssa:  I have mixed thoughts and feelings about her at this point.  I think she's gorgeous and has real performance power.  I'll be interested to see her technique in solo and the audition routine during finals.  We saw this week that she is a strong kicker, so that's definitely in her favor in this process.  I, personally, would not have made the same life choice regarding dancing for the OKC Thunder instead of going to college.  No big deal--we all should go our own ways in life.  However, based on the preview for next episode, I began to feel some disdain for her level of ignorance.  The girl doesn't know who the freaking First Lady is!  So, to me, this indicates that she doesn't give a shit about reading or knowing much of anything going on in the world, and this suggests an almost total lack of intellectual curiosity that explains her lack of interest in college.  After seeing that, I'm not so sure that she could have gotten major scholarships anywhere.  Seriously, if she was valedictorian, I'd hate to think what they are and are not learning at her high school, and I don't know that she would have a scholastic foundation to succeed at college.  Certainly not an Ivy League, and maybe not at community college, either.  She'd be there for an Mrs degree and the parties.  I'm fine with her not taking someone else's place in college who might have worked really hard to get there and stay there.  So in addition to thinking she's gorgeous on the outside and a fun performer to watch, I also am starting to think that she's entitled and willfully ignorant.  I'll have to wait and see.

YES!  This has been at the heart of my anti-Kalyssa attitude all along.  She seems to care mostly about self-promotion and making sure everybody knows how fabulous she is in all aspects, to her own detriment.  And of course the never-ending ta-ta shaking.  I think it was back in season 3 prelims where Kelli was mocking the <ahem> large number of ta-ta shakers that showed up.

I know this would hurt a few girls, but what if the age to be a DCC was raised to turning 21 during the upcoming season? Like someone above said, Kelli does not want this for none of this matter to become public. When the age was raised to 21 (I was grandfathered in at 18 when the law changed in my state), a lot of other things also raised, just to avoid issues like this.  Now granted you still could be acting a fool with the wrong people at the wrong place, but at least it takes the law out of the equation. Also, since so many of the TCC seem to come from college and/or other teams, it looks like the majority is already knocking on the door of 21.

Or you could raise  the age level by raising the requirements - like must have 3+ years with a professional or college team, teaching, full-time work experience, etc.. that would put a person closer to 21

I highly doubt this will happen, especially when those 18-21 year-old ladies are most likely in their prime dance years.

Adults are drinking. And especially college kids. Quite honestly, being able to go to war at 18 but having to wait until 21 to have a beer is stupid. The only reason why people are being so irresponsible with drinking is that making it illegal makes it even cooler. In europe we can officially drink at 18, unofficially 16, and if we are with an adult we can legally drink even if underage. That's a different discussion though, but my point is that most people at Holly's age drink. Most of the girls throughout the year would definitely break those rules, what Kelli really wants is that none of this becomes public.

And I honestly think that Jenna should be severely punished for this, even if she wasn't the one breaking the law. We saw them having a discussion about her stepping up and becoming a true leader and then she went on to not only allow one of her "mentees" to break the law, but she stood beside her all along.

I lived abroad in Europe for three years and completely agree with your point regarding alcohol consumption by those under 21, but the laws in the U.S. are different.  Until the laws change, they have to hold these girls accountable for lawbreaking behaviors.  Holly broke the law and Jenna didn't - it's pretty black and white.  It seems like Jenna's alleged suspension reflects a punishment for not being a "leader" in this situation, but they can't keep someone on the team who has broken the law and risk the inevitable public relations fallout.

@123DCCWoooo I get that the producers are trying to introduce them to us and get us to root for them but ask them something different. They are already a bunch of nerve s so of course they are going to be emotional over certain things and I'm like, why are we crying about our mama like she died but she is there packing your audition suitcase? Lol calm down. At least we didn't have anyone sashaying past the SMU sign with a backpack on.  ?

???For real! I would love to see some segments that show some past footage of the ladies dancing in a competition, an interview with a former dance instructor, literally anything that doesn't involve some contrived story while crying over a mother that is packing your suitcase. Even for those few stories that are a bit believable, they dim in comparison to the other garbage stories. Chelsea's sob stories were the WORST.

Please no more "how I overcame stuff" segues. Some are misleading and some are...over dramatic? I mean....My heart goes out to these ladies, but I'm here for the auditions and dancing. Also, I am a little bored of the ladies dancing in apartments and random studios. Show me more auditioning and decrease the amount of cutaways. I would like to see maybe one whole 8-count before moving to another shot. And I totally don't care about what happens before numbers are called I.e. Dancing like at a dance competition before numbers are called  everything seems so disingenuine this episode or fake. Do I need to take a nap?

Ugh...those segments are my least favorite part of the show.  I tell Hubby to grab my violin as I wait for the sob story of how they overcame some completely unremarkable circumstance (anyone raised by a single mom recently?) while dancing in some beautiful home/pricey studio in an outfit that costs upward of $300.  #crymeariver

I just know how it feels to be asked something in an interview situation that you know and have your mind go completely blank ... and then the panic sets in. Sitting in front of Charlotte, Kelli, Judy and everyone else on that panel has to be scary — especially for girls with not much life experience. And on top of that, add the CMT cameras and MTT's penchant for highlighting the "I don't know" responses. That is SO much pressure!!

Absolutely. And they really have to be able to handle themselves under that type of scrutiny. I think the political questions reflect that - I doubt they are looking for the girls to spill their guts on why they do/don't support Trump's wall or whatever, but how they would handle themselves if they were asked that question. The political climate is such a huge part of our culture now that I can't imagine that they wouldn't be exposed to that a least a few times while in uniform.

    Lol! The sparkle was gone.

I've never been a Kelsey fan. I don't see the appeal.

Kelsey has never been the strongest candidate out there, but she's always had the beauty to help her coast onto the team (similar to Emily from season 7). But she didn't have her beauty during this episode. At all.

I think it also had a lot to do with all that eyeliner she had on.  It was pretty thick. Usually Kelsey wears minimal eyeliner and it makes her eyes look so bright and big, blue, and shoes off how gorgeous they are.  I think all that liner darkened her look.

It totally could have been. Kelsey's blue eyes are usually mesmerizing.  I understand the idea of heavy makeup for the cameras, but it doesn't do these gorgeous ladies any favors. And can you imagine what their faces look like after hours of heavy, aggressive dancing? Blech.

I think that's just a matter of them being called in during the technique class and we have no idea how long they'd been dancing a that point. There's also no guarantee that they show the office visits in the order they occur.

Good point. I'd look like crud if I'd been dancing all night as well! I'm surprised K&J don't make them do a fluff and puff for the cameras before getting called into the office. ?

Did they have online voting this year? Usually they show the candidates filming it after semis.

I don't think they did the fan vote.

I'm afraid for Kelsey.  It sounded as if she was still a struggler with learning.  I sure hope she makes it back on the team.  She seems to be such a great ambassador for the team.

She definitely looked disheveled during her meeting in K&J's office. I'm used to her looking absolutely gorgeous all the time,  so it took me by surprise. I think she's feeling the pressure and is probably just as afraid as we are for her future on the team.

No offense to Jenna, but I think the team would have survive without her coming back for another year. After Season 5, a lot of the veterans with three or more years experience retired, and the team survived. Season 6 had 17 rookies out of 34 girls on the team, and Season 7 had 19 rookies out of 39 girls on the team.

      Reveal hidden contents

I wonder how Judy and Kelli are feeling now with all the Jenna rumors floating around about "asking her to be a guiding light" for the newer members of the squad. I wished they would have shown the conversations for the three vets who were cut, the weight/out of shape vets, and the other ones on the bubble. They did show Kelsey because I think she is still on the radar bubble of being possible cut.

Yes. Jenna is 100% replaceable, just like every other dancer on the team. Hell, just like anything in life. I thought Jenna was a doll in her rookie season, but I've liked her less and less with each passing year. Her meeting with K&J this year sealed my disdain for her forever. She seriously can't go away fast enough. #byefelicia

  16. I'm with the previous comment of can we PLEASE move past Kelsey's interview flubs?  I have to hand it to Kelsey for sticking with it because I would hang it up if they kept bringing up my past flaws mercilessly.  Jenna's visit in the office seemed overly contrived.  Yuko's English is improving by leaps and bounds (as expected when exposed to the language 24/7) and KaShara's accent is just adorable.  Cersten is going to be great in medical school!  I loved seeing the tidbits on some of the veterans....more, please!

I already hate Anthony Ramos.  Do we really need a fashion analysis on a show where everyone wears the same uniform in the end?  And BIG surprise that Neil just LOVED Kalyssa.  I'm surprised Kalyssa didn't shake her ta-tas as she was running up the aisle after her number was called for finals (as you can tell, I'm NOT a Kalyssa fan).

I knew Cary (from the mother/daughter duo) would be sent packing this round.  And a big BYE to Whitney!  "Even though I messed up, I'm still awesome and deserve a spot!"  Get over yourself.  Being there 5 years doesn't show how hard you worked...it shows how desperate you really are.

Alexandria, Katelynn, and Lauren look great!  Lacey does also, and she resembles Ashley (season 7, the counselor) so much.  Barely saw Christina this episode.

    Dayton is just overall unimpressive.

And how in the heck did Briana get to finals with those awful kicks?

Yes, there's a lot of great talent on DCC. I just hate to have Holly go out in a throwing-a-fit kind of way.  Would rather she have retired when she felt the time was right.  And if Kelli (spelling?) is hinting that we'll see what happened with Holly on MTT, then Kelli's not embarrassed or uncomfortable with what went down. To me, that doesn't bode well for Holly. Maybe Holly just tore a muscle or something...?  Guess well find out!

Agreed.  Can't wait to see if they address it!  I would love to see it on the show.

Regarding the Holly situation, I hope she didn't quit. Though I thought her focus was more on showcasing herself than the team, I admired her skill and pop. And she can certainly take a great photo!  I think of Calia being let go for gaining weight and partying, now maybe Holly and Jenna in trouble for partying (if rumors are true) - I guess that's what the organization faces when they pick dancers that are so young.

Holly does seem like she's in it more for self-promotion. She's an incredible performer, which can get you far in the organization, but it's still a team. And K&J most likely go with the betterment of the team over the individual. There's plenty of good talent knocking on DCC's door, so no one is irreplaceable at this point.

And therein I believe lies part of the issue. For as much as K&J talk about wanting people to stand out, what they really want is a blending into a group they design.  Holly is a little bit "extra" (IMO in a good way) for the DCC life. She appears to have a personality, for example.

This. They want a few standouts/fan favs that they can capitalize on, but at the end of the day, K&J want a team - a team that consists of "yes ma'am's" that will not make waves or tarnish their pristine image. And I completely understand why. The whole DCC brand depends on them successfully playing jump-rope on that proverbial line of good, wholesome girl-next-door that displays nothing but raw sex appeal.

Like others have mentioned, it seems odd that the daughter made semis but the ballroom dancer didn't. You'd think that Kelli and Judy would want to see her do their choreography because they love adding more champions to the DCC. When Kelli said the DCC has had world champions on their team, I immediately wondered - world champions of what exactly? I don't mean that in a bitchy way either. I sincerely want to know because you can't just tell me that you have world champions and then leave me hanging! That would be like someone casually mentioning that their family had several Olympic athletes and then changing the subject. I want to know more! I love when people have other skills or interests and I really like when groups like DCC have members with a diverse range of talents, so of course I want the details!

I can see the daughter getting enough "maybe" votes to make it past prelims, but in reality the storyline probably saved her from the chopping block on this round.  She has the same issue as Ballroom - great body and decent dancing, but doesn't have the "HD-ready face."  I'll be surprised if Daughter makes it through semis.

  21. Long time lurker here that finally decided to join the snark!  I've loved this show since I first saw it back in 2006 (and I would LOVE to get my hands on the 2005 special - I've never seen it).  Thoughts on the first episode:

LOVE Brianna.  Like Judy said, she's unpolished, but definitely has potential.  But in next week's preview, her kicks look to be a "deal breaker." ;)

Kalyssa is already annoying me.  Her attitude of "I started dance later because I was sitting on my couch doing nothing and it only took me two years to start winning competitions!" just screams entitled.  Especially when she mentioned how smart she was but gave up college to dance in the NBA.  I'm hoping for an epic Kitty Carter takedown because her dance ability is now defined by ta-ta shaking and "nasty, but in a good way."

I'm on the fence about Madisyn.  I like her story and her dance was OK, but I'm not disappointed that she didn't advance.

The comeback girls:  Celinda is just boring to me.  I think Brennan has the best chance of making the team, but I'll still be surprised if she actually does make it.  Whitney comes across as an entitled snot - please cut her sooner rather than later.  I was never a Christina fan, but I have to admit that she's starting to grow on me this season.  Her hair is awesome!

Dayton is beautiful and seems like a lovely, well-spoken young woman with a great legacy, but her dancing was lackluster.  She needs WAY more power for DCC.  I'll be curious to see how far she advances.

"4x Ballroom Dance Champion" Kate - just NO.  Go back to the ballroom and get off my screen.

Mother/Daughter duo - The daughter had average looks and maybe slightly above average dance, but Mom totally took one for the team so her daughter could advance.  I'm not sure anyone would have truly noticed the daughter without the storyline.

Katelynn's dance was great, but a makeover is in need.  Her look is horrible.

Totally excited for the rest of the season!  And I'm SO glad we have a new intro!
