  1. Someone up thread mentioned the show about the prison escapees.  It was well done and actually quite scary.  Through the ordeal it hit home how scary it was for these residents.  This pair was hard core and would have done anything to stay out of prison.  I kind of understand why the lady might help but was baffled about the guard.

Anyone else see it?? anyone Ferris??

I watched the show about the prison escapees and enjoyed it myself. About the lady and the guard helping them all I can say is aren't they old enough to know better? The guard said he didn't think they'd escape - really? Wonder what charges they'd be facing if the escapees murdered someone while they were on the lam.

  2. We just got Decades network here in the KS area, and I have to say i'm not that impressed w/the channel other than their "Through the Decades" program.  Their network seems a little too all over the place in regards to their programming.  I know they just started out and will eventually get it all worked out like Antenna TV and MeTV.

I like the history aspect of Decades too but find the rest of their programming frustrating. I haven't watched it much since their official launch on Memorial Day where before I was binging the various shows to the point of watching nothing else. I hope the programming gets worked out too.

  3. With her carrying around her doll Myrtle all the time it was like they were trying to make her another Buffy (Family Affair) unless they thought all little girls did that.

Barbara looked too old to have a daughter around Dodie's age. If she were at least Ernie's age it would have made more sense but it seemed like they needed a little child to go along with the widow Steve was going to marry.

  4. I think I heard something like they were "given" a fire starter or something to that effect. Otherwise you're always counting on someone bringing it then what else are you missing? I'd think the skill would be more in finding enough firewood and keeping it going than struggling with starting it anyway.

I agree, the black sap cure seemed suspect -- Robin just so happened to read about the plant that neutralizes the pain? They don't know where they're going before they're dropped off, right?

I liked this team and they seemed to like and respect each other. It was sad to see them both tap out but with the conditions they were enduring it was a good decision. At least Robin said she got something out of the experience.

  5. I'm enjoying Decades but I thought the programming past the Through the Decades segment would be closer to the TV programming shown during the time they're presenting - no movies. I like that they repeat the block through the day so we don't miss a program.

I miss the binges this week (got hooked on a few of them especially The Fugitive) and look forward to the weekend binges.

  6. The Crowded House episode on Web of Lies was very disturbing and one I won't forget soon.  I just watched an episode about a young guy who was lonely and started a friendship with a young girl, younger than he thought.  She convinces him that they need to kill her parents to be together.

He attempts to kill her dad, stabs him and learns in the middle of all this that she was lying. He administers first aid and Mom calls 911.  The guy lives.  Young man gets 8 years but nothing happens to his girlfriend.  I think she got some counseling. I just saw her as a sociopath and someone likely to hurt or kill again.

I thought since she instigated the whole thing she should have gotten some jail time as in other cases like this. The boyfriend seemed like a good person otherwise and now he's got a jail record for the rest of his life.

  7. The mom was paying the rent and I was wondering too why she didn't stop paying when Jessica broke the no boys rule. The housemate who offered commentary during the show should have left the house the minute the boyfriend stabbed Jessica, but being the leech he was its not surprising he hung around. He looked genuinely remorseful about what happened but who knows if that's because he got caught.

  8. Most probably know this, but if there are soap watchers here, Jeffrey Hunter's last wife was Emily McLaughlin, who played Nurse Jessie Brewer on General Hospital. Apparently, they married not long before Hunter took his fall and died.

I watched General Hospital back in the 80s and remember Nurse Jesse.

There's a comment about this in the trivia section of his IMDB profile along with a mention that he wanted to appear on the show but the producers didn't take the interest seriously. I wonder how they would have worked him into the show.

  9. It's Easter, so we've got lots of Biblical Epics today.

Roma Downey and Mark Burnett can kiss off for all I care.  King of Kings and Jesus of Nazareth all the way, baby!  I just wish they didn't get such a handsome actor to play Jesus.  Jeffrey Hunter = Be still my heart.  Oooooo, I'm gonna go to Hell for liking my sexy Jesus.

And like many life of Jesus movies, all the Romans are British.  And Salome can't act to save her own life.

You'd think they'd get a more passionate and angry sounding actor for John the Baptist though.  Michael York in Jesus of Nazareth did a much better job.  Olivia Hussey as Mary, too.

It's too bad Jeffrey Hunter's career wasn't bigger than it was.  He was handsome.  He could act a bit.  He died rather young though (36, I believe).  Would things have been different had he been the star of Star Trek?  Better remembered, I mean.

Jeffrey Hunter was in his 42 when he died (due to a blow to the head that later became serious enough to cause a stroke that killed him). He was also in The Searchers with John Wayne, and gave a good performance. I'm not sure if Star Trek would have made him a big TV star but it would have been a different series since he was no William Shatner!

  10. There was no one to get married off that season (Ernie too young, lol) so I guess they needed a story to reel people back in.

I couldn't take more than 15 minutes of the first episode - he shows up unexpectedly, expects a place to stay and dictates how they conduct their dinner time.

There is an amusing episode from later in the season where Steve is left with the triplets all day while the rest of the family is out (part planned, other last minute). Steve has a time keeping them from getting into trouble but manages to lose them anyway. No Fergus.

  11. Egad is right. That was the season when they showed some of the episodes 10:30 at night and I was too young to stay up to watch so never saw until now. Caught a few minutes of a Fergus episode and its cringeworthy. Looks like he wasn't around the entire season.

  12. There's been so many mergers, sales, etc. of studios and media companies through the years that it's hard to track who owns what regarding television shows. When Decades shows up on my cable system (I hope) I'll be happy to see many of the shows I haven't seen in years too!

  13. Re: See No Evil, plus some pretty detail oriented and patient Detectives - that guy grabbing Kelsey wasn't easy to spot. Pretty scary story, getting grabbed in broad daylight in a seemingly public area.

  14. I saw Obsessions last night too and was a little perplexed by her statement to the effect of how all of this could have been avoided ... Um, ok. Seems like if your life is in danger and the police aren't as responsive as you'd like maybe you should go see them? Then with her leaving the kids at home while they were in danger too ... Hello?

  15. I think NBC was leading the charge on the move from B&W to color since their parent company at the time was RCA, the makers of color TVs.

I agree with what's been said here about the use of B&W and its conveying of mood. IIRC there was an episode of the X Files (or a show around that time) filmed in B&W and it was a good choice.

  16. I watched the colorized version of It's a Wonderful Life when colorization was "in vogue". It looked terrible. I spent more time noticing the bad color than paying attention to the story. Any of the colorized stuff I saw back then looked "dirty". They could never match the brilliance of color like it could have been filmed back in the day.

A while back Hulu had some colorized first season episodes of I Dream of Jeannie that looked very good. I wonder if the technology changed enough to "fool" those who would never know the difference?

  17. In "The Comeback" when George is in Jerry's apartment vehemently expressing he's using the Jerkstore comeback to his coworker, arm motions and all.

In "The Limo" when Jerry and George are talking about how to get out of the limo and George says to jump out, Jerry says who are we, Mannix?

In "The Chicken Roaster" after Jerry and Kramer switch apartments, the scene where Jerry tells Kramer he's afraid the the dummy is going to kill him during the night. Then the later scene where Jerry is acting like Kramer.
