Congrats to Steven Spielberg. His acceptance speech was funny and sweet, especially the part about using pieces of his life in different films and finally realizing that he needs to tell his own story while he still can and based on the reviews I've seen, it's a great story; otoh, since he's been in the business for over 50 years, I'm not surprised.

As problematic as some of Ryan Murphy's work is, his contributions to TV in all forms (broadcast, cable and streaming) are undeniable plus he gave one of the best acceptance speeches of the night.
Zelensky was unexpected.

Kudos to Matthew McFadyen and Julia Garner. McFadyen''s been great ever since the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice and Julia Garner managed to steal Ozark from Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, which isn't easy.

Here's the thread for the dialogue of "House of the Dragon," such as Lord Corlys' words to Prince Daemon: "We are the Realm's second sons. Our worth is not given. It must be made." This is a great line because it shows Lord Corlys as a man who just wants to protect what's his, but the King, aka Prince Daemon's brother, doesn't seem to care, hence their new-and unholy-alliance.

Bumping it up to show love to the use of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," one of my favorite songs in "Stranger Things," one of my favorite shows. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but it was used in a very clever, suspenseful and ultimately emotional way.

You know, now that you mention it, the joke about Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz was actually pretty insulting to them both. Insinuating that Penelope is so insecure that she couldn’t handle it if he won while she didn’t.
I have my doubts that Chris even wrote any of the jokes. They were stale is a way that I associate with jokes written for presenters. It wouldn’t surprise if Chris wrote a joke that was received poorly but he’s generally funnier than he was tonight. Amy’s jokes were the only ones that didn’t have that feel and I suspect she wrote or was involved in the writing of her own lines.
In the cases of Javier and Penelope, since they actually laughed at Rock's jokes about them, if they were offended, they didn't show it. IIRC, Rock has won Emmys for his comedy writing, so he may have written at least some of his own material, for better or worse.

Oh, HELL, no! News Flash, Will: Chris Rock IS! A! COMEDIAN! He's been telling jokes for *decades*! Rock's joke about Jada may not have been his best, but you made it so much worse. Plus, Rock's a Covid survivor, which is yet another reason why assaulting him isn't a good look. IIRC, Rock also joked about Javier Bardem and his wife Penelope Cruz, but they didn't overreact. If I had alopecia and Rock had made that joke about me, I would've laughed my entire ass off because though I'm a serious person, I don't take myself that seriously all the time. There's a right way and a wrong way to defend your partner and this was wrong, to say the least.
Even worse was Will's basically being rewarded for it moments later with the Best Actor Oscar, which, despite it being technically voted for weeks ago, was cheapened both by Will's behavior and his weepy, condescending acceptance speech-which, not surprisingly, didn't include an apology to Chris Rock. Worst of all, Will's victory was at the expense of Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Garfield, Javier Bardem and Denzel Washington, all of whom are better actors who gave better performances than Smith. If Rock wanted to press charges against Smith, I wouldn't blame him. To say that Smith crossed the line would be an understatement.

After the Will/Jada/Chris debacle, I was hoping for some relief and the "Pulp Fiction" reunion was just that. I was twisting with half the audience, but as for the contents of the briefcase, I was expecting a Royale with cheese.

It's great to see Coppola, DeNiro and Pacino in the "Godfather" tribute, but I'm surprised that Diane Keaton, James Caan and Robert Duvall weren't there, too.

Yes, "Summer of Soul!" Any documentary that makes people sing, dance and smile at the same time deserves to win.
