  1. I laughed until I cried when Judy acknowledged her fondness for Tiffany!

Procedural: Next episode shows everybody at Zion’s Landing but Eli just now gave Jesse the $10M he wanted.  They gonna do a time hop?  Or is it not Zion’s Landing, but a worldly prototype they’re experiencing?

When they wiggled their fingers at the old man’s cement grave!

Loved so much that the old man screwed Juniir over long ago. I knew them that Jr. & Eli would  be okay. Although I could’ve done without the pasty pale old-man arse!

Could Junior in fact be the undoing of Thaniel  Block and the two guys who wound up as collateral damage?  I can see where the rationale could be explained- but I can’t, at the same time.  SURE hope that’s explained next week!

Everybody BUT the Lissons has been eliminated as the Ninja puppeteers, I think. Dang. It is gonna be a LONG year before S3 rolls around. I HOPE it’s only a year - or less.  This show is outrageously good story-telling.

BJ being so happy that Eli shook his hand was just the sweetest scene. If it weren't for him and Keefe, I don't know if I could watch this show every week. They're the characters with the most humanity.

I’m hecking annoyed with them for going in too many directions (more info on Block’s murder, guys!).  However:  when Judy tells Tiffany that all the men in the family are effin’ losers, and BJ walks in as if on a cloud, I saw Judy’s face relaxed and hopeful for the first time.  She’s listening to BJ describe his meeting with Eli, down to the handshake.
Yes - Billy, Eli, Jesse & Kelvin have been losers.  But BJ is now in the family.

And he’s lessened Eli’s loser-ness (Eli goes to make amends with Kelvin).

Wow! Which brings a question: is BJ’s given name Benjamin Jordan? I should just look before I post but what the heck: Benjamin was the last son of … Jacob, right? BJ is Eli’s last son(-in-law). (I’d love to see Keefe & Kelvin make it legal but let’s be real.) And Jordan … the river that features prominently in the Bible?

Of course if I’m misremembering just ignore me.

I'm in the camp that doesn't want to lose Eli.  So, thinking on that ending and it being fuzzy from several hours passing from watching, I don't remember seeing any/much blood on Eli, and he should have been drenched after all those shots, so I'm going to put my hopes on maybe he was smart enough to start wearing a bulletproof vest after the incident with Jesse and those assassins on motorcycles.  Let's all hope that is true and Eli only took non-lethal hits.

The teaser for the next episode show an ambulance with security detail arriving on the family compound so I’m sure he survives. Thing is, i don’t recall ANY blood on Eli (I consider John Goodman a national living treasure and sometimes my lizard brain kicks in irrationally if his character is in danger! LOL) so I’m thinking the windshield was bulletproof and if he did take bullets, they were to his legs.  Though I would guess the entire engine compartment would be bullet-protected, but I have no idea.  Anyhoo I’m thinking maybe he was having cardiac events or a seizure from the shock and mere impact of all the ammo. Still life-threatening, but tidier. /graveyard humor/ ;-)

  4. There’s parts of the show that are so insane - Judy drawing a phallus on her fan club photos.  That kind of thing would be on SM in a heartbeat and the scandal would reverberate.

I’m sure Eli’s not dead nor “away,” but it seems like they’re really prolonging the varieties and depths of troubles the family can get themselves into. Maybe I’m just not wired to follow a plot line week after week after week.

All that said, 2 questions.  Was that Keef in the tiger cage?

And why did Aimee-Leigh condone and even enable her kids’ foul behaviors? Betting we find out that she wasn’t one-dimensionally perfect.

  5. Answering my own question: according to a source who says they know, the age regression is 98% computerized.  Well dang. There go my hopes for a big surprise at my next high school reunion.

HBO MAX newby  here, with Questions:  How zoo will this episode be available on demand?

And where are people seeing the preview of the fire at Pluff Acres?  (I have friends in The Carolinas who say “pluffmud” is an especially stinky phenomenon related to the aftermath of hurricane storm surges. Cracked me up to see it used as the name of a high-end housing enclave!

Thanks in advance for any & all info, accurate or otherwise. 8-D

  6. Okay, #1: Who did Goodman’s 1993 makeup? He’s a year younger than me snd I think he looked better tonightthan he did IN ‘93!!!

Eli snd his father - John Goodman is king.
Baby Billy - what a storyline. TRG is my first Walton Goggins experience but fella is a Prince.

The child actors in this also blew me away.

What is the name of the actor who played juvenile Harmon last episode? I’ve not been able to find him online.

Episode ended with me saying, “Wow!”  Not much tv does that, anymore. This show delivers.

  7. I just want to know who were the other dead guys at the reporter’s house! And how did one get into the tree?

Liked that KJ is on the Judy behavioral spectrum - no wonder BJ felt comfortable around Judy to begin with. Also explains a lot that their father was abusive; BJ goes to what he knows.

How do all these crazy things not get reported in the news? Do Eli & Martin have that strong  a lock on local media?

    It's a regional thing.

Yup! I’m told a Mainer says they’re “going up to camp” when they are heading for their cabin / cottage / camp / getaway.

There’s talk of new shows so I guess it’s not cancelled yet!  I’m so eager to visit Maine and enjoy an evening at their little outdoor  entertainment venue.

Well, maybe next year [/Stephen Sondheim]

I noticed on Bargain Mansions that all of the sudden she is having her husband and children on every episode.  Of course Chip and Joanne's show was always centered around segments with their children, and Ben and Erin have Helen on quite a few of their episodes, but part of the dynamic in this home improvement shows is for us, the viewer, to fall in love with the personality of the people as much as we love what they do on their home improvements.  For some people (you perhaps?) that is off-putting, but for most people I think they find it comforting "these people are just like us only they can build a house"!  I suspect millions of dollars were spent in studies by marketing people to establish this point -  we are all being duped by a marketing person somewhere IMO!  I obviously went into the wrong profession.

Makes as much sense as anything!

I'm so sad that HGTV didn’t pick them up. Wondering about the future of Barnwood Builders, who again aren’t very sleek but I enjoy watching them way more than all the rest  - well, except MCM of course!!!

  10. @Jadzia, thanks for the Hot Mess mention. I’ll give it a try, for Marie’s — er, Old time’s sake.

I have only 3 very small drawers but a decent length of closet hanging space.  Folding underwear, slips, socks and long underwear works fine but I even hang my bra’s now - with only the clothes I really need & love, there’s plenty of room.

  11. @RoxiP, thank you! I had not known the kids were becoming standard issue. MCM  is the only rebuilding show I watch anymore.   I can always just head for the kitchen for a cold beverage when I see them come on. And if you've had the chance to watch or listen to the woodshop 101 podcast with Chase and Ryan, Maggie Morrill really does a nice job moderating.

I totally agree with you about Lance, I think. It was fun for a couple seasons, glad to see him go, and I have erased protected the wedding cabin episode. I can't imagine what his and Lillys children look like! Adorable tall, lean little bird people!

  12. I guess I'm a grouch but I really lose interest when the kids are on.  Tonight all 4 of them! Are we to be visited by every Morrill in the county?, to borrow from Jane Austen.

Again with the grouchiness: Ashley is getting on my nerves with her snarky attitude toward Ryan. Am I alone?

All that said, I positively adore watching the guys work and problem-solve and Ashley's crafts and design process are enjoyable.

For all my pique, I am Hoping against hope HGTV or someone picks up this show when the Gaines galumph off with the "Magnolia" rebrand of DIY.

  13. I’ve liked Dale and the easy chemistry between him and Meemaw.  LOVE Wallace Shawn but Sturgis & Meemaw have no chemistry that I can see.

So now I’m thinking that their pairing is probably permanent because it’s just another example of the wackiness that ensues when geniuses live among us.

The poster conversation was way too much fun!

I finally got to see some of season 4. But it came after several earlier season shows (including dear old Lance). I think I've put my finger on the change. I know it's early in the "year" as S4 begins, but a lot of the commradery is missing. It seems to be all business. No making chowdah (by Dixie). No taking a break on the shore of the lake to grill & eat hot dogs. It will be interesting to see if these heartwarming scenes appear later in the season.

I felt like there were several of those, but maybe they were outtakes I saw elsewhere.

Somebody likened Ryan’s behavior to Chip G and I’ve watched carefully since then. I see the similarities, but I don’t think the starting points are the same.

Chip just has to be the funniest, most remarkable guy in the room.  My major memory of him is rubbing his groin on his wife’s sides and backside,  his hands clasped behind his head and a stupid grin on his face.

Ryan is one of those guys who wisecrack just because, but it’s hardly ever at anybody’s Expense, far as I can recall. He’s got an opinion on most situations but Chase does value him as his “voice of reason” so I doubt those inputs are a problem.

And I’ll be honest - I don’t miss Lance even a little bit. Probably I’ve just got enough conflict IRL and don’t enjoy watching somebody pushing the boundaries and annoying the guys who are just handling everything Chase throws at ‘em.

Differences make the world go ‘round, so—!

Well, something sure was missing. They need to get Lance back. He's such a Mainer, as well as being naturally funny (as opposed to Ryan who's his own best fan).

Halfway thru the lobster legacy and I’m saying they’re  back on track!!!  Something was just off about that caboose episode.

I like Ryan’s humor.  He seems to me like the kind Of guy who’d crack wise to lighten a situation.

Eh, I like Ryan. His corny laugh, I’ve adopted a version of it as my own. Hadn’t realized how much I’d needed it, or would use it!

Lance got on my nerves a bit, but with hindsight, I do see where he livened things up. His response to Chase’s gift of emus (a gift of ponies) was classic and well done. As was Chase with the birds. Yeah, maybe it wouldn’t be s bad thing to get him back every 3rd episode or so in S5, hoping that I’ll still want an S5 after S4.

Just PLEASE don’t anybody turn into northern versions of Chip & Jo, not Erin & Ben. Puh-leeze!!!
