This whole storyline is gross, but the reason the report reads so weird is because it's the physicians report. It's dictated and auto translated by a software program. I've done the same thing (not a doctor, though, so no clue about any of the rest of it). Funny that they're arguing about who would best know how to interpret it. None of them?

I did not know that. So they just give these hard-to-read reports to patients? Or is it meant to be just for the physician? Nothing to do with the Brooks' story, just curious.

It was pretty funny when Tamra was trying to interpret it.

  2. The thing that gets me about that medical report is how it's written/typed. All the words running together? It says "ClinicaHi istory" and "thereisalargemasssurrounging..." "thespleenisnormalinsize" what kind of document would you get from your doctor that was written like that?

To me, the doctor visit came across as entirely fake. Everyone playing their parts, but none of it seemed believable to me. And the fact that Vicki and Brooks went to such trouble to have their visit aired and then showed the 'report' to Tamra on screen to me screams of lying and trying to cover their tails. And though I agree it's no one's business, V&B have put this out there on the show and have made it part of Vicki's 'story' for this year. Yes HIPAA is very important but it was Brooks who brought out the doctor's report.

Regarding Ryan's house, just how is he going to pay the $4000 rent every month when neither he nor his fiancee is working? So Tamra giving him money was a one-time thing? I think Eddy will need to start counting the pennies.

Lu and the others weren't getting it. No one is begrudging you getting a little action on vacation, but you need to take responsibility for your dude. You can't just leave him unattended in the next room from your unaware friends. This is not the same as having a one night stand in your apartment back in the city. You're sharing a house with several other women, and you need to take them into account. They had JUST met these guys, and they were clearly heavily intoxicated - what if that guy had tried something with Heather or Carole, what if he stole something? But the crux of the matter is, no one told them. NO one really knew what was going on and THAT was "uncool".

But the thing is Lu didn't leave the dude unattended. From what I can gather Lu and Ramona brought guys home and continued to party after having been out. At some point the party broke up and Lu got it on to some extent with her dude (I presume they had sex, but didn't see it so don't know) after having whatever way she had with her Scotsman, Lu then got him out of the house. I would think she had done so before going to sleep herself. Whatever the deal, there doesn't seem to be any point where Lu left her dude to his own devices. Why would she?

It was Ramona who left the guy in the bed in Bethenny's room, next to Heather and Carole's room. It was Ramona's guy who was left to his own devices for a period of time. That's nothing to do with Lu. At all. And yet it was Lu who Carole and Heather went after. Sure it's probably not cool to bring a guy back regardless, but Lu's guy left the premises hours earlier from all accounts. Somehow it became all Lu's fault that there was a guy in the room next to theirs.

As to the snark and slut shaming, especially on WWHL, I think it makes me dislike Carole even more then Heather. Not hard, since I generally dislike Carole. But all season long she has put on this Sex and the City persona. She has made sexual comments in every situation (remember the names she wanted to give to Kristen's nail polish colors) and generally wants to be seen as too cool for school. So for her to be commenting on Luann's sexual behavior is beyond hypocritical. She should be embracing Luann as the Samantha to her Carrie.

And regarding Carole - just what is her story this season? She hangs out? She gets together with Bethenny and is cool? She's got a young boyfriend we don't see? As much as I love to hate on Ramona, Carole is more annoying to me.

  4. My shallow observation for the night - I think I've decided that it's Hannah's dark red lipstick that I find off-putting rather then her eyebrows. Or it's the combination of the two. She has two dramatic things about her look and it's too much. Kind of like a statement necklace with a dress that's bold in its own right. Like this:

I did love that scene Mary had with Penny and Leonard near the end, though. At least that was something. And I liked how Penny teased Leonard about the ring. She didn't seem terribly troubled about it by that point, just giving him a ribbing about it by pretending to drill his arm. Heee.

I liked that Mary was making them spaghetti with cut-up hotdogs - but wanted Sheldon to come in and see them eating it together. Just so that he'd have a moment of feeling what Leonard was feeling when both moms were fawning over Sheldon.

  6.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Maybe I set my expectations too high based on how much liked both Laurie Metcalf's and Christine Baranski's other appearances, but I didn't enjoy their scenes together at all.

I think a big part of the problem is how short the episodes have become. They're at about 16-17 minutes at this point and since they also include a b-plot there just isn't time to really develop the interactions or the jokes a lot of the time. Earlier episodes were probably around 20 minutes long and I think an additional few minutes makes all the difference. There just wasn't time for all the beats that should have played out between Beverly and Mary. They went the quick and dirty route with jokes about religion vs science, but could have done so much more. In past episodes Mary has been very motherly to Leonard (and the others too) and I just didn't believe that she wouldn't say something about how Beverly was treating Leonard.

And there's always been an undercurrent of how much better a match the mother/son pairings would be if they were switched - cerebral Sheldon with cerebral Beverly and loving Leonard with loving Mary - so to have there only be that one line about Sheldon kind of getting that his mom really was a good fit for him wasn't enough either.

These super short episodes in an aging series are kind of killing it.

Agreed about Bethenny. I think what we might be seeing about her is that she seems so impatient, so over this, meaning the show itself. While she signed up for it, thinking she could cash in and perhaps easily go through the motions, somehow her true feelings are showing. She is impatient with doing the show itself.

I agree. To me it looked like Heather was following the script so to speak and she was thrown because Bethenny was ad-libbing. It's a tried and true production/filming thing for these shows for a couple of the women to sit down together at a restaurant and have a discussion about how one of them has an issue with another ho-wife who isn't there. Like Ramona did with Heather about Bethenny or how Kenya did with Cynthia about NeNe. This is in the script so to speak.

    An example:

Kenya and Cynthia get together and talk all about how Cynthia and NeNe are having problems. Kenya tells Cynthia that she has to sit down with NeNe and hash things out. Cynthia goes on about how NeNe has done her wrong, Kenya agrees, but still they must get together face to face to "deal with their issues". Cynthia texts NeNe to set up the date... And scene.

We've seen it a million times on these shows and all pushed by production I'm sure. It's not that there's an actual script but the scenes are scripted to set up the next scene where the real drama will happen. Cynthia and NeNe trying to settle their differences but ending in a shouting match.

I think that was the scenario Heather was pursuing. She informed Bethenny of Kristen's hurt feelings and the next part of the script was supposed to be Bethenny ranting for a bit, but then agreeing that she must meet with Kristen so they can "deal with their issues". But Bethenny didn't play her part in the conversation and that completely threw Heather. This is Heather's second? third? season, so she knows the way things are supposed to progress.

In a meta way it was all pretty funny and I sort of half admire Bethenny for throwing a wrench in the scripting works, but I'm also impatient with her. She knows better then almost anyone how this reality game is supposed to be played. So to me she is coming across just as you described, so over it all. Well that's all fine, I get that, but she is cashing the big checks from Bravo and hawking her SkinnyG crap endlessly so that she can make even more money. So she needs to suck it up.

  8. IMO both Bethenny and Ramona came into that scene edgy and ready to spar, but for different reasons.

Ramona is definitely feeling threatened in her alpha position and was going to find something to go at it with Beth no matter what.

The same goes for Bethenny, she too was looking for a way to start with Ramona. I think she's not happy to be back on the show. And I'm betting she took the gig for the money and more exposure, but is feeling like its a step back and that she's just so beyond these people. So having to do these group things is not high on her list. She was considerably later then everyone else and as soon as the argument got going she was up and ready to go, because she wasn't going to do this with Ramona. Got her out of the event pretty quickly. And I won't be surprised if something similar doesn't happen at the Luann event next week. "Oh my god, Kelly BS is here, I'm not going to do this and out the door". She's fulfilling her obligation to the show by attending, but doesn't have to linger.

The rest, though... how he got so worked up about her past relationships and expected apologies and embarrassed her in front of her friends, that was way out of line.

I agree. When the kids (who needed a villain for their reality show) were filming the "I Never" drinking game and Dre was being such an ass, Zoey said "now we have our villain", I was sure the next words out of her mouth were going to be "It's dad". That totally fit with how he was behaving. Instead she decided it was mom who was the villain? It did not compute for me because Dre was the one who was sooo upset that his star wife was really a dud because she'd been dumped so many times in college. And it wasn't about her, it was about him and what it said about him that his wife was a loser.

  10.

IIRC, Bethenny was already in talks with Bravo for a spin off when she met Jason (which is why Jill was upset) and the focus changed to accommodate her pregnancy and marriage to Jason. Jason knew who she was when he met her and hitched himself to her bandwagon as fast as he could, he showed up in the opening credits for the housewives as soon as they started dating. I don't see him any differently than the woman who gets knocked up by the rich celebrity to ensure 18 years of child support. The fact that he won't move out of the multi million dollar apartment paid for by Bethenny tells me everything I need to know. Jason is a goldigger.

This may be true but it also means that Bethenny isn't any different from the wealthy men/celebs that the gold diggers hook up with. She, like they, got something out of the deal too. Bethenny was in talks for a spinoff and what was the spinoff going to be? More of Bethenny unsuccessfully dating? No, that'd been done on the HW show. Instead she was going to be the NYC gal who'd found her man and was getting her happy-ever-after. She was looking for someone to be her hubby and baby daddy just as much as he may have been looking for someone with deep pockets. Did they care about each other? Sure, probably. But I never believed in anything deeper then that. They were each other's right place, right person, at the right time to fulfill their goals.

They used each other as much as they cared for each other. IMO. And now they are both doing so without the caring. Bethenny wants to use Jason for her storyline. He's her tormentor, she's the victim, still scrappily fighting for what's hers. And he is using their divorce battle to get everything he can. I have a feeling much of this season will be about Bethenny fighting the "good fight" against the evil Jason.

I've never been as fond of Carole as many are, but she sank even further in my estimation last night. It's clear that being on the HW show has gone to her head (in addition to her face with all its fillers). And she's taking her role as the "cool girl" (see the GONE GIRL movie for a great explanation of what that is!) to exaggerated heights. I always find the most awkward scenes in the HW shows to be the ones where a HW is interacting with a real person from the real world (not a reality show character). Here's this real person trying to do real business with the HW and they're faced with a character who wants to play to the cameras and act a part. That's all Carole was interested in doing with her editor, playing the "cool girl".

  11. So apparently this must have been filmed after Hayden had had her baby. We haven't seen her this mobile in months. Glad she was able to do some active filming but thought the story for her tonight was weak and threw off the rhythm for the other storylines.

Liked the Rayna and Sadie stuff. Rest not so much. And because it can't be said enough, shut up Gunner.

    And I hate Mopey Gunnnar.

When they were trying to think of a name for their trio, first thing that popped into my head was The Mopey Schmoes. Avery's been a little more chipper lately (though I anticipate that changing soon with whatever birth/bus crash angst is coming), but man they can be the glummest of the glum and that's saying something on a show that has Deacon.

Gunnar in particular is just so beyond annoying with his endless long face. He's been glum pretty much from day one on this show. In love with Scarlett when she was with Avery, then upset about his wild brother's ways and his death after he got Scarlett, then mopey about their breaking up, then mopey because he was then with Zoey but Scarlett was unhappy, then mopey because Zoey wasn't thrilled to be an insta-mom to his ten-year-old son, then mopey when he found out his son was not his son but his nephew, double-mopeyness because his brother BETRAYED him ten years ago!, mopey because he lost his not-son, now mopey because Scarlett is seeing someone else - and darn it he wants her now. In between all of these he's been mopey about his career and various other things.

Scarlett at least has had some reason lately to be depressed given Deacon's cancer. But I just need Gunnar to snap out of it for more then an episode or two.

Regarding Deacon/Rayna last night, I was totally with her. To think that somehow her and Maddie's pain will be less if he keeps the in the dark or at a distance is just stupid. I know that Deacon likes to be alone with his man-pain, but people who love you aren't made happier when you die by not having been with you when you did. There pain will be just as bad, if not worse, if they were not able to spend whatever time was left with you.

I can't see Mary Cooper letting Sheldon call the shots where birthday greetings and/or gifts are concerned!  For me having us believe that in 8 years Sheldon's birthday never came up from anyone at any time is just one of those little "let's do something because it would be funny" things that sitcoms writers do that doesn't really stand up to too much scrutiny :).

Agreed about Sheldon's mom. Additionally, there's no way the guys would have let this go all these years. In the episode where Howard and Raj realized that Sheldon was disappearing every afternoon for a half hour or so, they became obsessed with finding out what he was up to. They would have been the same about figuring out his birthday. They might even go so far as to send for his birth certificate if they had to, though it's pretty easy to find someone's birthday if they spend any time online.

  14. I've decided the Granthams are the most permissive employers ever. They've got a ladies maid and a valet, both accused murderers, a ladies maid who served time for theft, a gay under-butler (I don't have an issue with this, but at the time it was very illegal), and a butler who has a shady past. Perhaps they should just accept it and open up a half-way house. Isobel could bring back that young woman she tried to help, the former prostitute turned maid, and then Edith could tell the world that Marigold is her daughter.

  15.

Mary's romantic shenanigans are so dull.  When she was trying to make the gentlemen feel uncomfortable while shooting, she seemed to think that makes her more appealing.  And then the gentlemen seems to agree.  No way.  Please,....let her just give up on finding a suitor.  She's more amusing just being a witch.

Agreed. Mary being nasty to him was not cute or charming or flirtatious. When she heard that Atticus wasn't going to be able to shoot because their neighbor, Johnny (?), was bringing someone to the shooting party so Atticus was giving up his spot, she was put out. But that is what a host does. It's considered the height of good manners to make your guests feel comfortable, no matter how they've put you out. An example in this episode when Rose's mother insisted on having her own room. It was a massive inconvenience but Cora and Mrs. Hughes simply said, no problem, we'll figure it out. That's what you do for guests. Mary should know this. But not only does she show her irritation to Atticus, somewhat understandable, she then proceeds to berate Henry Talbot, who is made to feel extremely uncomfortable.

And what was his crime? That he accepted an invitation to go shooting. He had no idea that he'd taken someone else's place. And because Mary chooses to snark at him about it when she did, it's way too late. When he says he'll give up his spot to Atticus, she coldly tells him that he can't because Atticus left his guns back at the castle. In what universe is that anything but beyond rude? And we're supposed to think that Henry is intrigued by her - he did ask about her marital status in the next moment.

There were a lot of impatient sighs from me as I watched last night; but that whole business made me most irritated - well that and any scene where they were discussing Anna's case.

I was hoping for an additional screen message honoring the actress, something that said "We'll miss you, Carol Ann Susi" or something to that effect, for those viewers who might not realize they were also paying tribute to the woman who played Mrs. Wolowitz.

That was my only problem. They had the toast and it got quiet and I thought they'd fade to a screen with a tribute to the actress. Instead it went from that little bit of quiet to a blaring promo with loud laugh track of next week's episode (complete with reference to the lost ashes). It was incredibly jarring and did a major disservice to what I thought had been a good way to pay tribute and write the character out.

Oh she has every right to be pissed, my issue would be if she used this to try to take parental rights from him.  At this point Teddy is (one of) Maddie's fathers and has been since before she was born.  She can want him to take a time out and that's fair but the my kid stuff crosses a line for me.

For the most part her talk of parental rights and "he's not the father" only came up when she was thinking of using it as a legal strategy to get Maddie out of the contract. It was part of her response to when he first told her what he'd done and why (prostitutes, drugs, almost dead girl, blackmail, etc). At that point she pulled out the parental rights issue. She'd already had the discussion (I think) with her attorney who told her about he one-parent requirement. So in that moment she's thrashing around for any way possible to get Maddie out of the deal - as well as being beyond enraged by what Teddy has done.

Later, after she successfully used Jeff's behavior to discredit him and possibly expose Edgehill to major scandal and possibly lawsuits, she had gotten Maddie released and in that conversation with Teddy she did not threaten to terminate his rights. Instead she told him she wanted to keep the girls with her for the time being. A reasonable thing given he'd thrown his daughter under a contractual bus in order to avoid exposing his own mistakes. He used Maddie and not only that put her future career at immense risk. Isn't part of Layla's problem that she's been shoehorned into this pop princess, bubblegum music that doesn't make her happy? Who knows what Jeff would have required Maddie to do to sell records. And in the moment when Teddy signed the paper he proved that it didn't matter what happened to Maddie, all that mattered was protecting his own skin.

Rayna's stance has always been that Maddie can and probably will have a career in music, she just doesn't want her exposed to the vicissitudes of the business at the age of 15.

  18. Yes, I too thought the ad read "Cheese!" but it turns out, on closer viewing, it said "Choose your own Path". But the notion of a Cheese Cure still delights!

    .

I think Thomas is attempting some kind of "stop the gay" program. Not sure what the drugs are, but perhaps some quackery that will help him not be gay any more.

I agree with others on how stupid the murder investigation is, in that there's absolutely no way there'd even be an investigation at this point absent saying they saw it happen. But what's been bugging even more is the fact that Anna keeps skulking around making Bates and herself look 100 times more guilty. She's acting so stupidly and I'd like her to be a bit smarter.

Mary wanting to marry again makes no sense to me. She never wanted to leave Downton. That was her entire storyline from the beginning. She was reluctantly willing to marry because it was expected of her, but she didn't want to. Matthew was the answer to her prayers in all ways. She got to marry the man she loved and stay at Downton. So unless she fell head over heels again, I don't believe she's be actively looking to marry.

  19.

The only issue I seeing w/that would be that I can't see Whoopi staying silent if this was her graceful exit out. I can't see Whoopi going out gracefully either unless ABC said keep your mouth shut and we will pay out the remainder of your contract. I would think we would have heard of a big blow up where the powers that be laid it on the line for Whoopi and Rosie to play nice or walk.

I wonder if it's something a little more short term. Perhaps Whoopi has been asked to stay away for a few shows (in other words suspended) because of how bad the tension had become before the holidays. If this is the case I could totally see them giving her the out of saying she's sick and I could see why she wouldn't be saying anything publicly if she wants to keep working there. Given how bad that last show was right before their break, I could see where they wouldn't want both women coming right back to the stage together on day one. This way Whoopi can come back in a while and the discussion will be about her health, not about how things were left.

  20. I usually record the show but was home this morning and watched. I enjoyed it so much I may re-watch the recording! And that's not something I'd ever say about any of the Whoopi episodes. Some of those I can barely get through because of how obnoxious she is. Though I feel a smidgen of guilt, a smidgen only, but hearing that Whoopi has a bulging disc and has to lay flat? Sounded like something you don't bounce back from and that made me happy. I'm evil like that I guess. But the show yesterday and today has just been loads better. And today's panel was a great mix - and who'd of thunk it with three raucous comedians sitting there? That Mario, Kathy and Rosie could all get their jokes in and still have a natural conversation riffing off of each other? Great.

I loved how after the Palin clip Rosie asked Nicole if she had PTSD and Nicole's response. It was funny but better it just felt genuine and natural. The kind of thing I'd ask a friend in a similar situation. The whole panel worked together naturally. Even more so then yesterday, but I put that down to the football announcer dude who was just out of place.

    Fun times.

  21. I wonder if Cynthia's terrible fashion choices and hair have to do with the weight she's put on. She's by no means heavy, but she may be trying to distract from what she considers to be too much weight. For someone who has spent her life being able to effortlessly wear whatever she wanted and look good, it might be hard for her to figure out her new body.

I in no way think she looks too heavy, but she may think she does.

  22. Thanks cooksdelight. One other note about Kandi. For someone who can't stand conflict when it comes to her own relationships, she sure does love to cause it in other people's relationships. There was no reason on earth for her to tell her mom what Sharon had said. She could have left it at "Sharon wants an apology" and been done with it. The rest was just to stir things up again.

Now I realize that the producers probably encourage her to be this tattletale so that things get stirred up, but she doesn't have to play along time and time again.

  23. Just caught up on a week's worth of shows and had just a couple comments. First, these were enjoyable shows for the most part. It seems like they're relaxing a bit and there was even some teasing of each other. I agree some of it may be because Rosie P wasn't there, but even on the day she was there, Whoopi teased her about 'writing a scheck' and when she got it she responded pretty well. It was funny. I didn't notice Whoopi doing the "uh huh, um hmm, yes" stuff that she has been doing - not as much anyway - and everyone seemed to be contributing more to the discussions.

I do agree with others that Rosie P, much as I think she's fine, does somehow slow things down or stop a conversation cold. Not sure why.

And regarding the discussion of Michael Brown's stepdad inciting a riot. I'm in the midwest and the shows are aired live here - Whoopi introduced the segment by calling the man in question Michael Brown's stepfather. She distinctly says the word. But for the rest of the conversation it's as though they're speaking of MB's parents (mom and dad) not just because they say 'parent' but because they're referencing behavior that has been more the hall mark of his mom and bio-dad. The calls for peaceful protest, the ways in which they have tried to calm things down, etc. So if you missed that one brief mention of the word 'stepfather' it sounds like they're talking about MB's bio-dad.
