  1. When I read that this episode was about Jughead trying to keep the drive in from being closed, I really thought that sounded dull.  But this was the best episode of the season, I thought.  One dramatic turn after another.  Betty was kind of dumb taking the gun and writing that secret stuff in her diary though.

I'm enjoying this show tremendously, I hope it gets renewed for another season.  Only four more episodes to go.

  2. I've always preferred Betty, and probably still do on the TV show, although the jury is still out.

I have to say that this is by far the most likable version of Veronica I have seen.  She seems much nicer and not at all snooty.

As for the "real" Miss Grundy, didn't they show her obituary?  Besides that, the music teacher's name could have been Grundy, and just changed it back after she got divorced.  Or did I miss something?  All I recall is that when she was married her name was Simpson, and when she got divorced, she "changed her name".

ITA, I should bite my tongue too, but it just seems like yet another TV trope where the men are made to look like bumbling idiots next to their stronger, more capable, and yes, now higher-earning women.

I do almost get the feeling I'm being preached at with an agenda.  But I still think what is worse is the message that you will make peanuts if you work hard and get an education.  Why do that when you can just have a friend recommend you and you can pull down six figures and lord it over your husband.  If Penny makes significantly more than Leonard, she must be making six figures, or close to it.

Other money oddities in the show include Penny being able to afford her apartment on a waitress' salary, and that pile of uncashed checks that Sheldon kept in his desk drawer.  Sheldon probably does save a bundle by not having to pay for a car, auto insurance, gas, maintenance, etc.

I'd stick with The Movie DB for that purpose rmontro. The Moviechat.org site is another one worth checking out.

Thanks for the suggestions, and there is also the old standby, Rotten Tomatoes.  I hope IMDB's traffic drops like a stone.  Maybe it's a blessing in disguise, so far I think I actually prefer the message boards over here on Previously TV.

He left an episode or two ago to "do something I have to do, in the lower 48".

He and that producer chick are going to be starring in a spin off, "I Love Bam".  In his spare time, he will be leading his "Respect the Danger" lecture tour.

Howard has a masters degree. The rest have doctorates, I'm pretty sure.

You're right, I messed that up.

Regarding working for a university, they still should be earning well above the national average.  They won't get rich, but they shouldn't be living in squalor either.  I still think it sends a bad message to say they earn peanuts.  Working in the private sector isn't a guarantee of making a lot of money either, because they have to turn a profit.  Although Bernadette and Penny work in Pharmaceuticals, and I'm sure they're not hurting for profit.

Bernadette acts like she is supporting Howard, but they are living in Howard's mother's house.  I'm assuming she left it to him when she died, and that it is probably paid off.  That helps cut their expenses, I'm sure.

I hope they get past this "through the eyes of madness" angle on this show soon, or rather depict it better. I am already getting tired of the jumbled nature of the first couple episodes which makes it difficult to follow anything that's going on.

Yeah, I'm surprised I'm still tuning in frankly.  I didn't really intend to watch this, but kind of ended up seeing it anyway.  I hope that the whole jumbled, fragmented mess isn't going to be the main thrust of the show, because then I'm just going to say this isn't for me.  I know some viewers will enjoy the portrayal of madness, but it leaves me a little cold.  And the main character stumbles and stammers through everything.  I'm just not sure what the appeal is here.

Definitely this and when you couple that with their attitude that scientists make peanuts it's extremely annoying!  I know I've said this before but these guys all make more than most of their viewers probably make - certainly as much! - few of us are pulling down the kind of money they say Bernadette and Penny are making,  And yet we're constantly being told that this means we're on the edge of being poverty stricken.  Grrrr,,,,,

Totally agree.  They're not wealthy, but they are definitely pulling in well above the national average in income.  Being constantly told they make peanuts is a slap in the face to a large part of their audience.  Also, aside from Howard, they have master degrees.  What kind of message does this send to kids about pursuing an education?  Go to college and you will earn peanuts?  But if you're cute, wear low cut tops, take off your wedding ring, and flirt with the clients, you'll make a bundle of money.

Good to see you and some of the others here from IMDB rmontro :)

Likewise.  I need to find me another source of info for trailers, cast, etc., because once those forums go down, I don't intend to ever use that site again.  A meaningless gesture, I'm sure, but it's the principal of the thing.

Regarding Bird's teeth, I believe she's over 18 now, so my theory is that it is her decision not to get her teeth fixed.  Billy and Ami both have talked about having a distrust of doctors, so most likely she's inherited that.  And a lot of people are afraid of the dentist.  Of course the parents should have had them taken care of a long time ago.

Next up, Bear falls from the top of a large pine 60' straight on to his head. He will never be the same, which can only result in a much improved Bear :D

That would be funny, he could start dressing in a suit, lose the dutchy accent, start talking in perfect English, and express interest in getting a real job..  You should be a script writer on this show!

Regarding Rock Knocker's question about the dimensions:  Matt made a comment at one point about how they had finished all the siding, and were moving on to whatever else.  So obviously we didn't get to see all the details of the deal.  Pretending this is all real for a moment:

Matt even said he didn't plan on using the mill for business purposes, just for providing wood for the family.  That didn't stop Billy from stepping in and having it used for his own purposes though.  And sure enough, it didn't hold up to the labor.  And we got the typical scene where Billy gathers everyone to tell them how much work needs to be done, and telling everyone to "Git it!" while he goes off to have a nap or stare at Ami.

So did Raj's dad say 5 of his 6 children were married? I guess Priya got hitched.

Good observation.  Although I guess since Leonard is also married now, it doesn't really matter.  I hope she's more faithful to her new husband than she was to Leonard.

It's nice to see them giving Raj some personality development, but it made for kind of a dull episode.

I really dislike the way this show deals with money.  The physicists are all portrayed as being paupers basically, except for Sheldon.  What does Raj do with his salary?  Maybe he pays the housekeeper and the dog walker from the sound of it, but still.  I'm surprised they didn't say Penny and Bernadette made more money than Leonard and Howard back when they were still waitresses at the Cheesecake Factory.

And if Raj is so lazy that he needs a dog walker, how is it he is Mr. Superman when it comes to doing chores at Howard's house and taking care of the baby?

  11. As much as Billy creeps me out, I think Ami may be worse with her passive aggressive attempt to make Bam feel guilty for wanting to leave.  I actually expected to see him back already, with ladyfriend in tow, but that may actually wait until next season, or the season finale (whenever that is).  Unless he has left the show for good, which I doubt.

Funny how no one hardly mentions Gabe in these discussions about independence.  Has he ever even had a date?  He seems to lack the confidence with the ladies that Noah and Bear have (in thier own screwed up way lol).

  12. Billy has always given me the skeeves, but my theory is that he has abandonment issues after his entire family was killed when he was 15.  I think that's the reason that he has made sure the children were unprepared to ever leave the nest.  That doesn't make any of what he does right, but I bet he makes for quite an interesting psychological profile.  And yes, the kids also make for useful servants.

-Dave and Callie were out a day apart so they spent the week together (they spent most of the time in the kitchen cooking and eating). She tapped out on Aug 1st and went back home 8 days later. I guess the 8 days were for recovery?

I wonder what contestants thought when they were "tapping in" to their families only to find themselves stuck in the Loser Lodge on a restricted diet?

By the way, thanks for typing that all out, Joan, no way would I have had the patience to watch that whole video.

Good to see all of Zorn's training rubbed off on Craig. He finally has a spine! Also, no shock that Edie likes selfish jackasses.

Maybe it isn't that she likes selfish jackasses, it's just that she'd like Craig to show a spine once in a while (as you said).  Makes you wonder how they got together in the first place though.

Is it wrong that I would like to have an mp3 of the Whiskey and Zorn song?

Yes, according to local rumors...there was some troubles (not the boat is always breaking down, we have no food and winter is today kinda troubles) that Matt, Bam, Gabe and Noah no longer wanted to do the show.  Commander Billy mad.  Contracts flashed in faces.  Threats of money cut off.  And voila...they were all back for filming. But, is it just me or does it seem the mood of these manboys changed.  You can see it in their eyes that they feel the ridiculousness of it all, especially in the company of Billy, and that they just don't want to be there.

Now that you mention it, there does seem to be some tension there in the scenes with Billy that weren't there before.  And it's interesting that you don't mention Bear, who seems to genuinely enjoy his position on the show.  Maybe the guys have read the comments about Billy using the kids for cheap labor - it's one of the first things that strike you when you watch the show.  Maybe they've read about how Billy and Ami have left their kids unprepared to function independently out in the real world, maybe there's some resentment there.  They surely must have seen these comments by now.  And maybe they've read about how Billy is making the vast majority of the money, while the show seems to focus mainly on the kids.

Regardless, they should just stick it out.  This isn't an opportunity that comes along every day.

  16. Was anyone else hoping for a tie there after Carleigh was pulled?  The medics were at both camps that day.  That would have been interesting.

Fowler was a worthy winner though.  As much as I would have preferred a tie, or even an outright Carleigh win, I don't think it was unfair.  Fowler didn't look nearly as bad as Carleigh, she looked absolutely skeletal, especially those scenes of her in the hospital.  Looks like Fowler practically lives on a homestead already, they have a yurt and a greenhouse.

Not sure why Callie seemed more annoying on the reunion show.  It was like she was aware of her popularity, and came across as too smug or something.  Oh well.  I agree the reasons she gave for tapping were garbage.

While it wouldn't be a surprise that they're tired of being shown as mindless morons do we know that's one reason there were rumbles of dissent when TPTB wanted to get the new season going?

I didn't know there rumors of dissent, if anyone has details I'd love to hear them.

Anyway, I'm not so sure they object to being depicted as morons (although if anyone would object, Bam would be my guess).  Bear in particular seems to enjoy being on TV with his tree climbing, somersaulting, extreme character.   Noah doesn't seem bothered by his "I'm smarter than my brothers" character.  I do think they are bothered by the talk that they haven't grown up or gotten lives of their own.  That's all just conjecture on my part though.

The moron twins used a shiny, new shovel (tags still clearly visible) as a paddle. That's what I always did..."damn, lost a paddle, let's go to the hardware store and get a really big, heavy shovel which will probably cost more than an oar/paddle".

To be fair, it looked like it was a snow shovel, which is lighter than a spade.  It might even be made out of plastic, which would be lighter yet.

I agree with your point that if winter is such a big concern, why are they wasting so much time?  Billy spent most of the episode staring off into space, either when Noah's girlfriend was visiting, or when visiting the turbine site.  Not that we would expect him (or Ami, for that matter) to be doing much else.  Besides, easier to blame it all on Bam's absence lol.

Speaking of Noah's girlfriend, I had a feeling there was something different about her.  I suspect she's going to be around for awhile.  If nothing else, she probably wants a spot on the TV show.  Maybe it's all part of some demand on the part of the kids that they not be portrayed as such losers.

  19. Is it mean spirited of me to say that the highlight of tonight's episode for me was when they dropped and broke the turbine?  I knew as soon as Gabe started following Bear's orders there was a disaster coming.  Gabe doesn't seem capable of an independent thought, he's always following someone, like Bird or Noah.  Following Bear's lead is probably not a good idea though.

I was impressed that Noah did the right thing on his "meet the parents" date.  He said "We probably should have left two topics ago" and dragged her out of it.  I thought wow, he did something right for a change, good job.
