The whole temperance thing is utter nonsense. It would be one thing if Ada became involved just to take her mind off her late husband and keep busy, but using it as an excuse to honor the late reverend is baloney. As Agnes has pointed out, he wasn't involved with the movement and had no issue drinking wine. This does nothing to "honor" him. If she really wanted to honor him, why not volunteer somewhere he actually supported like a charity or church or something that has a legit connection to him?

I can't decide if the point here is that Ada is throwing herself into this as an excuse to take her mind off her grief or if the writing is so weak the show is using the reverend as a tenuous connection. Given some of the idiot plotting of last season I'm leaning towards the latter.

Ada finally has permission to assert herself.  She has entered a new phase of her life. She is new to it, similar to how toddlers and later teens are new to it, and will make mistakes.

I listened to a podcast this morning where they interviewed a guy who had a superhero podcast a while back.  DC has been having issues with their superhero movies (something I didn't know) while Marvel has had A LOT of success.  They said that Warner is really counting on Superman being successful. so let's hope so!

James Gunn has just taken over the franchise, so this is a big test of his leadership. However, I think the marvel movies have been losing momentum as well, certainly they have with me. I haven’t been interested enough to watch one for a while, and then it was just for the Flerken Goose and her kittens. So he has to overcome general superhero burnout and the fact that Zack Snyder, at least in my opinion, is just really boring.

They don't give a shit about sexual abuse or they'd want his ass in prison, not the White House.  The ones flipping out are the Pizzagate crowd, equally convinced the Epstein files contain only a bunch of prominent Democrats, and will finally expose that cabal.  It's all about that "gotcha", nothing to do with the girls (who were abused by men of all political persuasions).

I’ve read that people are waiting for the expose of the ‘deep state’ and do, in fact, think that this is part of that story.

Yeah, but I can’t help but be bitter than Barbie spoonfeeding its feminist message to audiences wasn’t enough for some of them to get off their asses and actually vote for Kamala Harris.

Was hoping to go to Superman tonight but looks like we’re waiting for a weeknight.

I’m bitter that Gunn cancelled Superman and Lois and Doom Patrol, although I assume there were business reasons. But this Superman had better be damn good, is all I can say.

  3. I’m pretty sure that Jeff got his ID and assets straightened out without our seeing the petty details, since he was alive. I assume he wasn’t living hand to mouth, either. Dexter being upset with the ‘dark passenger’ name is funny. I feel better about the idea of his dark passenger, which means I can accept a few other things about them. Somehow during the prequel I think I gave up on this being anything except a fantasy story.

Dexter could cry, but he can’t cry. I’m wondering if that means that at some point during this show he is going to cry.

Bautista is going to assume the ‘dark passenger’ killer is Dexter. I think it is possible that will end up clearing Dexter’s name, unless they plan on Bautista’s pursuit being a multiseason event.

If Dexter is still alive the NYPD department needs a better forensic person to work with bodily fluids.

I wonder if Uma Thurman’s character is the serial killer. It makes sense and fits in with their casting of people like Lithgow. Security expertise, no presence online, etc.

  4. I did think it was a direct continuation of cold blood, but I probably read something online.  I think that there weren’t many ways Dexter and Harrison could both legally walk away from this, and his girl friend felt she owed him. It is also pretty contrived that he is alive and probably that he can walk at all without a walker, so it continues the theme. The flashbacks were nice. Bautista clearly is looking for some answers, but it seems to me that Dexter/Jeff should have not left that way, since it looks really suspicious and he should leave the town continuing to think he is the nicest guy ever, even if he doesn’t plan on returning.

If this show runs long enough I’m guessing the girlfriend shows up again, but I don’t expect it the first season.

The original series Dexter during the Bay Harbor Butcher season said he had sort of a “run fund”.    I forget the details but Dexter knew a day might come where he had to run so he prepared for it.  But also Dexter Morgan didn’t have a lot of hobbies that weren’t connected to his dark passenger or at least his image of a normal guy.

Yes, I’d think he’d have one or two aliases with assets he could use.

Boy, that episode was loaded with fluff, almost nothing of consequence happened.

I think we’ve needed more of Harry and Bridget for a while. More than we had here. Their relationship is fairly opaque to me, still.  I get that Harry’s people are a harsh people, an abusive people, and yet how does he form relationships at all, and what is going on in Bridget’s brain, eating his half siblings? He’s been around long enough to know better. It is fairly confusing, even if it does allow for some amusing moments.

I hope Gary Farmer is healthy.  Two other characters have had weight loss starting this season - Liv and Sheriff Mike - but that seemed to be Wegovy/Ozembic supplemented by Liv's long mountain hikes of course.  Terry O'Quinn looks to have put on about 100 pounds but that could just be his costume.

In the diner he seemed unsteady when he moves to sit on the stool, which is more concerning than the weight loss, which could have been deliberate. I hope he is okayk, too.

“‘Egregious.’ ‘Brazen.’ ‘Lawless.’ How 48 Judges Describe Trump’s Actions, In Their Own Words” New York Times, Opinion, The Editorial Board, July 12, 2025.

Quite a few years ago the E channel asked celebrities what they thought of the E channel and put the answers in self ads. They shoved a microphone in front of Keanu Reeves and he said “Egregrious”. They used it for quite a while until someone told them what it meant.

Maybe I’m not getting your point, but it is “business as usual” right now, unfortunately for all of us. There seems to be practically nothing that Republican lawmakers aren’t complicit with MAGA on, both on the National and local levels.

Oh hell, politics was at a stand still. We were not really making progress with anything and everyone was trying to keep theor jobs by not rocking the boat. Boat is officially rocked. Yep ‘publicans pretending it is as usual and dems keeping head down and pretending business as usual will cut it. Something has to give. Maga is not business as usual. On bus gotta go for now. Back. i think we have been not selling big issues and tiptoeing around with tiny lateral changes. Someone saw an opening and made their move. Wasn’t us.

I have no problem with the statement that Republicans = MAGA. It’s different if someone has always identified as a Republican but is not voting R now, but if they’re voting for Republican candidates, then they’re responsible for the MAGA regime because practically every R politician is voting in lockstep with MAGA policies.

I’m not sure it is great to assume this is business as usual.

Trump is in Texas to tour the flood damage havoc he has wrecked with allowing so many cuts to NOAA and NSW and FEMA. Melania is with him. Does she care this time?

I don’t think he can actually walk on the rough ground. Probably not much of a tour.

But I thought MAGAs hated Superman because he’s an immigrant who didn’t enter the country legally

Theoretically he’s a foundling and I think he would be covered under the birthright law, if it survives. He gave up the American Way line a while ago, the new one is something like ‘truth, justice and the people of the world’.  It has been a while since I’ve paid attention. His gay son Jonathan also is Superman.

It's unbelievable to me how so many people just don't see it this way. Something so batshit crazy and extreme and they think it's OK? I just can't wrap my mind around it. Republicans weren't anywhere near this bad before Trump, not that they were ever great, but let's face it, this is several levels worse than anything we've seen in our lifetimes and maybe even in the entirety of our country's history, and there was some pretty bad shit happening before we were born too.

What gets me is that Republicans were always the ones chanting about too much government, government overreach, government in your face, in your business, meddling in your personal life, and blamed Democrats for these things. Meanwhile what do they think Trump and his cronies are doing? So far everything he's done has been a massive overreach and overstepping of of the boundaries and functions of government. And yet that's OK because somehow they've been duped into thinking it's going to benefit them. As long as he cuts out stuff that benefits poor black and brown people, they're OK with outright fascism even if they have to do without some things. It's just freaking pathetic and un-American at this point.

There are republicans against Trump. Maga qualifies as a third party, I think, with some support from the pro business over people arm of the republicans. Also ugh, this is an insult  bastard should keep his gross little hands off of Superman. Yes, official white house picture  and Superman stopped being ‘for the american way’ a while ago  more back to the fifties

I sat on my shoes/feet when I was 3 1/2 and one went up the cervical area.  I don’t think I had any hymen by the time my period came.  It did kind of hurt to pee for a few days back then.  The very fact I could remember that, something that happened more than 40 years ago shows the trauma…

I remember having a hymen and puzzling over it but I don’t remember when it broke, just that it was no longer there.

My sisters and I were so lucky.  Mom was a nurse and very open and matter of fact about things like this.  My Dad was also cool about having to get pads and the like from the store.   I took that for granted until I talked with friends whose parents were definitely not open or 'cool'.  Which is why moves like what is happening in Alberta are so wrong.  Not every child has a family member who will explain things and help them understand what is going on and as @PRgal notes most kids will be going through puberty long before grade 10!

My mother just didn’t want to be bothered, but she did give me a book. It was clinical, though, nothing about emotions or feelings or such. But at least I knew something was going to happen. Very scary if you don’t know.

Narrator: Trump was not, in fact, working on anything at all.

I don't remember exactly how old I was but I know I was in 5th grade. My mom had flown east for a funeral and it was just me and my dad. I couldn't bring myself to tell him so I just kept changing my underwear. My mom felt so bad when she came back.

We may hope there will be some good documentaries, someday.

my mother gave me a book. When I approached her to ask her about something she said: “did you read it? Are you stupid?” So I didnt tell her when I got my period and she was mad at me for that. Probably because a neighbor gave me a pad. I was in he 5th grade.

Every minute of everyday seems to start and end with what Trump has posted, proclaimed, decreed overnight. The cable news networks seem almost regretful when they are forced by circumstances to cover anything or anybody else. It oozes into the local news.  It was a constant distraction during the four years he was out of office. Honestly, I worry that at some point, as a country, we will collapse with the weight of it.

And the work of the tax changes and advantages for corporations and the work of whitewashing history and disenfranchising everyone but white males, the destruction of our educational system, the diminishment of our place in the world, the reduction in out health and our future continues while he blathers and entertains the masses. Circuses.

Yes, I remember the IMDB board and miss that one too, although it wasn't shut down for political nastiness. It was more for the usual spam stuff like how you can make $100,000 a year working at home and where to meet hot singles. The sad thing is that there are chat interfaces that would weed out those types of things (like Disqus) but some sites don't want to use them.

Another sad thing is that almost universally, every time I see such political vitriol being spewed it's from right wingers, never Democrats, even though Dems. have much more reason to spew it now than ever. So in this case there is no equivalent offense being committed by Democrats or whoever they call "the left". Some of the only places I know of to see Democrats opining on politics without being inordinately sniped at is here and on NYT articles, but both are heavily moderated.

I remember that the imdb board was used by fandom in a hostile and negative fashion, to the point where it was becoming really nasty. So there is that. People who didn’t like the ending of a tv show and attacked the creators and actors, for example.  So it wasn’t just ads.

i wonder what will happen after Ellison buys paramount? Trump is looking forward to it.
