  1. Buffalo to Madrid:  Mr. Chill was awesome.  Some wit and amazingly managed to be a somewhat unique character for House Hunters without being annoying.  A very nice change of pace.  (I'm still pissed at that Germany/ghost/charm/fake drawers moving abomination that was typical HH at its worst, and I only saw the last 7 minute of the episode.)

In a different direction, that realtor cracking the whip made my mind wander....

Yeah I can sympathize with the notion of wanting to make a complete break and get as far away as you can from the stress and tension!  The problem with HHI is that they can't just say that, noooo, they have to make up some silly backstory that raises more questions than it answers.

Yep, a lot of producer written BS lines in that episode.  They were portrayed as moving to a simpler life in a small town, but they were already from a tiny town.  Lawrenceburg, TN, has a population of 14,000, relatively in the middle of nowhere.  Trying to escape the grueling 3 minute drive to McDonalds?  They moved to Palmerstown North, about 6 times as big at 85,000.

As a Texan, I'm almost certain his accent was Hispanic.  I thought they were fine, just a victim of HGTV's typical canned phoniness.  Hope they enjoy NZ, I'm a little jealous.

  3. Does the Montana Home-Dream Home series go here?  1st episode isn't over, but I've concluded it is best to watch it muted.  Was curious if that floor that was half below grade had any moisture issues.  Anyone able to get past the inane attempts at humor?

  4. Oh COME ON, HGTV!  The Midlands are, ya know, towards the middle of England, not way down south of Bath where your intern marked it on the map.

"This feels like a suburb of Dallas."  Such BS.   A shame they listened to the producers' advice:  "Disagree about everything, complain a lot.  Wife, frequently express how things like windows, stairs, and paint color will kill your children.  Husband, say how that adds charm and the Euro experience you are seeking."  Husband seems to be a graduate of the Reynolds Wolf School of TV Fakeness.

  5. This San Juan Islands, WA episode was just stupid, even by HGTV's low standard.  "We are looking for a vacation home" so the first house he shows them is 5 minutes from their home (yeah, they are going to rent it out much of the time, but still.)

Second house was a goofy yurt with the bathroom in a separate building.  "And this island is not served by a ferry, you will have to swim to get to it." "Oh goody, this will provide us with the sense of adventure we've been seeking!"

  6. Texas to Auckland, I really felt for the young lady whose mom had died at just age 35.  So unfair.

Really felt raging hate for the producers who had to milk that into 20 mentions in the episode, along with constantly repeating all the hokey quips ("In Texas we go big or blah blah blah.")  If not for the producers, this show could be really good...

Also, I'm pretty sure you can't move to NZ full time without either a job in certain govt defined occupations, or investing at least $850,000 US in NZ bonds or companies, or a NZ spouse.  So was she on a 6-month vacation?

  7. Speaking of producer driven, I'm not sure there was a genuine sentence in that Boston to Sheffield episode, everything sounded like bad acting or ticking off all the 100 catchwords they were given.  His obnoxious remarks towards the realtor were not enjoyable tv, ended up muting half of it.

Edit:  Wow, what a contrast!  MD to Costa Rica episode was HH at its best.  Interesting family, gorgeous houses, and incredible scenery.

    "What blood type?"

    "I'm be positive..."

Yeah, it's total formula but I appreciate that Ben isn't as goofy as Chip Gaines and Erin isn't as serious as Joanna.

This.   Though some of her hair styles can be distracting, otherwise I'm loving this show.  Like the Gaines, they remind me of the people I grew up with back home.

Creeped out by the bats.  They can carry rabies, and can even potentially bite people without them realizing it.  Unlikely, but just knowing that there's a risk of that....

They were an interesting couple, but I was distracted by the one guy who looked like he was one steroid away from exploding.

We only tuned in for a minute but busted up laughing.

Assumed the taxidermy thing was just a producer encouraged euphemism ("He's really into mounting and stuffing...")

Speaking of producer driven phoniness, in tonight's San Angelo episode one of her wish list talking points sure seemed totally legit:

"He's in the military and so we move every 2 years.  We don't have any children but I want 4 bedrooms now because someday we will...."
