  1. Yep, I was complaining about the multiple simultaneous battles a couple episodes ago. I'd rather they show just one battle all the way through, to cut down on recap time.

I suppose the down side of that is that if you are a Rock Lee fan, you'd just tune out for a whole month. So maybe that's the whole reason?

  2. Just realized I misnumbered last week's thread. I type these on a device and sometimes typos happen, sorry.

This week: Nothing on Team Gai. (At this point, my bet is that they show up to save the day at the end off this fight, with a flashback about how their doubles were defeated.)

Kekkashi manages to catch up and talk some sense into Naruto, after showing off his own Shadow Clone skills. (I always forget that he's my favorite ninja, at least until he's back on screen.) Maybe now that Daedara's out of clay, we get to see what other tricks he has - maybe involving his eyepiece?

Meanwhile, Sakura shows in a montage that she can kick, punch, and heal - including two extra doses of antidote. Unfortunately, she learns that with Sasori, it's puppets all the way down. He's made a puppet of himself, and unlike the almost simultaneous Franky storyline from One Piece, Sasori was able to reach his back. I'm guessing we won't get to see how he did it.

You'd think that having ones' own body marinating in poison would be problematic, but I suspect Sasori has spent his lifetime building up an immunity to Iocaine powder.

My only complaint about this episode is that it relies on the Shonen time dilation effect - the total time of the episode was about one minute, by Sakura's count. Even ignoring the time spent with Naruto, that seems quite optimistic. Why not just say the antidote lasts for only ten minutes, and roughly approximate real time as aired?

  3. Kekkashi has a plan to handle Daedara, but Naruto's not one for waiting, as usual.

Team Gai is still kicking (and spinning, and scrolling), but other than using Neji for some limited recon, they don't do much.

Sakura and Sasori raise the roof of the Akatsuki hideout, and then drop it on the floor. Pardon our dust! The walls aren't looking that great either.

Sakura starts to figure out Sasori's attacks, so he turns on Iron Sand Giant Pointy Spiderweb Jutsu (not its actual name) and manages to trap Lady Chiyo and scratch Sakura, poisoning her. We get a nice flashback to Lady Tsunade telling young Sakura that her main job is to not get hit - woops!

The good news is that Sakura uses Sasori's innate impatience (combined with some playing possum) to ambush the Third Kazekage puppet when it closes in to finish the job, possibly destroying it?

  4. This show keeps up the surprises with the Titan-eating Titan. I'm trying to figure out the pattern with the abnormally but so far haven't quite caught on.

I keep hoping Eren isn't dead, but my hope is fading somewhat at this point.

I'm kind of a history buff, and I have to say that the reactions of the cadets (and the military overall) match up pretty well with what soldiers in the First World War reported. The combat environment was so new, so different than what they expected, and so horrifying, that many were "shell shocked" and literally could not fight, in some cases even knowing that execution awaited them if they didn't.

  5. I may be in the minority - I like the Sasori story line, although I suspect he won't be a recurring villain at the rate it's going.

What typically bugs me on this show, as well as Bleach for example, is when the show trades off between two or three fights. Usually that requires extra recap, so the story moves more slowly.

I totally forgot about Team Gai, but you only need to show them if the fight's going someplace. No need for a five minute checkin to see that they still haven't figured of how to beat their duplicants.

  6. Sasori's backstory - raised by Lady Chiyo after his parents were killed by Kekkashi's dad (?), he built the Father and Mother puppets but was ultimately frustrated that they couldn't really love him.

In the present, we also find that Lady Chiyo pulled a Finn the Human, and her right arm was a puppet with a chakra shield built in! Sasori's comment on this is that "we puppet masters are all alike", which causes something to occur to Lady Chiyo - hopefully more on that next week.

Unfortunately, Sasori's Third Kazekage's Iron Sand Jutsu disables Chiyo's arm and the Father and Mother puppets. Apparently the puppets are made of iron and steel, which explains their durability but not the woody clattering sounds they make.

The good news is that Sakura is made out of something a lot flimsier but not ferromagnetic, plus Lady Chiyo is only 50% as manipulative now (literally), so it looks like the fight will get interesting.

The really good news is no distractions with Daedara or Naruto this episode. Presably he's still running out of Model Magic or something.

  7. The FAQ suggested to start a character thread, but unfortunately I prefer to watch Naruto succeed in spite of himself, so perhaps this was a poor choice to start with.

I'll say this about the guy: he's incredibly loyal and inspires the same in others. And on a ninja team, that may ultimately be the best skill of all.

  8. In this episode:

Sasori tries to poison and then tie up Sakura, but she remembers her plan to not be dead weight, and blows up the poison cloud, injuring herself in the process.

But she's OK enough to look startled by the Third Kazekage's next attack, until Lady Chiyo blocks it with scroll-summoned puppets of ...Sasori's parents?

Apparently she doesn't create them the same way he does, so perhaps there's no ick factor involved. Summoning your puppets from a scroll seems almost too convenient - Kankuro should look into this.

Meanwhile, Deidara is still running out of detonating clay, and can't peel off Naruto from Kekkashi.

Also meanwhile, Team Gai have not yet figured out that when fighting exact clones, you have to trade enemies. Although I'm not sure who can take on Might Gai other than himself. (I'm not spoilered, this is just my prediction.)
