  1. Reflecting on the podcast, I realized that Dave gets Sarah's goat with Tom Carvel ads to the same degree she gets his with D.B. Cooper references.

  2. How did Barry cause Mason Bridge's death? He doesn't bring up Bridge with Wells until the news story of Bridge's death is breaking.

Wells just knew apparently, and acted, which it seems he would have done anyway.

Barry already knew about time travel; he sort of knows the recipe now (surprise, surprise, run really fast).

My take was that Wells wouldn't have had to kill Bridge in the last timeline, since events conspired to force him to reveal himself as Reverse Flash. With the reset, things unfolded in a different way, so Bridge's death took the place of Cisco's. I think the writers thought carefully about how time would push back against any changes (as Wells predicted), which I think elevated the episode quite a bit.

  3. Did I miss Blaine being referred to as "Blaine"? Or any explanation of how Blaine found out that Liv was looking for him?

I kind of want to watch a show about Blaine being evil and putting together a zombie army more than I want to watch Liv solve mysteries.

IIRC, in the pilot, he introduced himself to Liv on the boat in the very brief moments before the zombies attacked.

  4. Not for nothing, but I will admit that I'm occasionally and momentarily confused by the fact that Chris Carmack used to play a macho dunderhead called "Luke," and now plays a fellow named "Will" and Will Chase plays a macho dunderhead named "Luke"? It's just me, right?

Nope. It's embarrassing how often I have to check my work when writing about those two.

  5. Ridiculous ending. If Stein wanted to protect people, travelling 30-odd miles away to detonate on the surface is still going to kill thousands. He should have found a deep tunnel or abandoned mineshaft. An underground nuclear detonation kills no one.

I only noticed this on second viewing, but Ronnie/Stein had a gun; it seemed like he was planning to kill himself rather than detonate before Caitlin showed up and gave him a third option.

  6. So this is a crazy thought; I didn't see it mentioned earlier, but if it was, I apologize. But tonight we learned that Wells is Reverse Flash, despite him appearing in scenes with RF at the same time. Also, there's now a trend, both in tonight's episode and in casting spoilers, of actors from the 1990 Flash series reprising their roles. Given that we learned tonight that there was a Red Flash running around when Barry's mom was murdered, and given that it's possible for a Flash to appear in the same scene with his alter ego, is it possible that Barry's dad, played by the original Flash, was the Red Streak running around in the scene where his wife was murdered?

  7. ETA:

Couch Baron, I love your writing but you are scaring me here. I really hope the PTB don't listen to these calls to be "ballsy" and "complex" and kill off someone important. IMO, this show, tonally, is not one that could recover from something like that. WC is a light, cool, optimistic show. I've already inhaled the toxic fumes from burning my HIMYM DVDs - please let them not go there. Can we leave all this main character killing to the GoTs of the world and leave something that escapists like me can watch? Plus, killing someone off at the end is not ballsy, it's cheap and easy (or is that the same thing). YMMV, of course.

Oh, I hear what you're saying. I'm not calling for this at all; I'm certainly not in favor of them killing anyone off for the sake of being shocking. I just think that's how the network and producers would regard the possibility. If the show were better, I think it could maintain an overall light tone and still do the occasional death well (Chuck comes to mind as a show that walked that line well, for the most part). If they killed someone at this point, it would serve no dramatic purpose and alienate what's left of the viewership to boot.

  8. Just spec here but is the "don't know the evil that lives in your own house" with Susan going to explode in Ellie's face? Perhaps Danny was going to expose something that Tom was doing -- and Ellie's husband (whose name I have forgotten) killed Danny to protect Tom? Vince looks too guilty to be the killer and the priest, while hot for Beth, doesn't do it for me either (although I am curious as to whether Tom said that he hit Danny in order to throw suspicion off of the real murderer?). The other situation that also fits is Chloe's boyfriend, who conveniently thanked Mark and Beth for bringing him into the family.

Susan's story about Vince being her son was a bit too much of a bombshell for me at this point. Mark Solano has no right to say anything about Beth's visit to the priest given his own affair with Gemma.

The theory about Ellie's husband is my guess too; I seem to remember hints dropped about his abusive behavior on a camping trip, but the "evil in your own house" theme cemented it for me. Tom being the culprit would be disturbing but I don't think the network would approve a child killer.

  9. The thing about thieves not knowing Neal is like every episode, I feel. I had it in my notes and didn't even bother mentioning it because I feel like it's such a ubiquitous problem. Same way I used to wonder why SoCal vampires didn't circulate a photo of Buffy Summers.

  10. The "Magical Negro" or as I prefer to call him, "the homeless guy", was played by Mykelti Williams AKA Bubba from Forrest Gump and Boomtown.  I am a big fan of his work.  I think he is a highly underrated actor.

For the first time since Season One, I actually enjoyed the show.  I found the story lines interesting (even though some didn't ring true) and all the actors seemed to have brought their A-game.   Well done!

Williamson was also Ellstin Limehouse on Justified. He was great.
