I'm recovering from knee replacement surgery and just started watching Suits on Netflix. For some reason I never watched it when it was first shown.  I was a legal secretary before I retired so find it interesting/amusing.

I was wondering why I never really heard of it but it was a good run. I FF through a few parts as I got to know the characters and didn't want to hear certain dribble but most was entertaining. It was my first love/hate watch in a long time. I haven't found a replacement. Few years before being sick had me find  The Good Wife and I loved that. Better acting and I missed that too.

I know they almost never revisit any of the weekly stories, but it seems to me we leave Deidre's story open-ended on several fronts. One, whether or not she'll be able to properly care for her new baby and get her boys back, and two, whether the abusive husband she left comes looking for her. Her troubles are not over.

Is Cyril still in a state of limbo with Lucille? The last thing I remember is that she went back home and decided to stay there for an indefinite amount of time. So they never officially divorced? Are they still in touch? Has he considered moving there to be with her?

No Violet or Fred this week. Also, I've noticed they've done precious little with Sister Julienne this season. Maybe a lot of her scenes are getting trimmed by PBS but she hasn't been involved an any significant storyline that I can recall.

They've left it hanging and concentrated on other characters. The actress who played Lucille (although not up to her) really wanted them to give him another story line and felt bad her desire to leave effected him. I think the divorce will happen but it will be after he sees there is life without her and comes to grip with it. Probably be in one episode and slowly they might have him start to see the "not religious " midwife who will be a different type than Lucille (she also needs a divorce)

I think they kept Sr Julienne on the back burner with so many new faces but she is the heart of Nonnatus House and probably will be there to mentor when needed. I liked the old episode where her old beau Charles came and then this one I almost forgot about. Season 9 where she takes off her habit.

Mr. Standish," I'll close the saloon to suit your sleep schedule the day I give credit to a complete stranger offering zero assets or collateral!"

and there was never anything but the "big, bad city" where everyone is drunk, nasty and mean and people die (John Jr) or get on drugs (Albert) or Walnut Grove where everything was "perfect" but people were still mean, bigoted at times, got raped, swindled, abused their kids, the list goes on. It was like they had to knock you over the head with how awful the city was but what did they do.....move there again!

  4. I had to laugh reading about his friendship with Jonathan in The Inheritance when Garvey buys the farm and he's like "anyone but you!" I wanted Mr Edwards to pop in and say "Ok I'll buy it, I'm upgrading from my shack". ; )

In the recap they reminded me that Nel's had to take a hit from fending off the real auction participants knowing "Charles would be good for all the goods"

Yea.....I don't think he ever had a good crop after that.

Does anyone else wonder why Jonathan Garvey had no family members ever interact with him? I mean not only did Alice have a memorable episode with her mother (and ex-husband) but  even Nels and Harriet had memorable episodes with different branches of their respective families.

Merle's acting on LHOP was a bit wooden, probably how he thought of the character. Mr Edward's was more lively. Maybe he thought he was too boring or one dimensional to have more of a story line. You are right though, Harriet did, Nel's the Ingall's, Mrs. Whipple, the lady who faked her wake, etc.

I took it that they were a mixed couple and a good fit for her son.

Yes, that was nice. I wonder if they had him have a son (the up and coming dentist) to have him possibly be in the show again or at least have Ms Higgins mention him or go to his graduation etc.

She knew details of the couple adopting her son.  She said the woman was of Dutch extraction and the man was Hindu.  I think she knew their names.

She must have just seen the woman was Hindu and the name Victor didn't matter. I just thought it was odd back then that they would connect people. Some even today have a hard time

It wasn't entirely clear, but my guess is she left some record with the agency that adopted him out?  I loved that Phyllis was a rock for her during the storyline.

The last twenty minutes was all tears.  I appreciated that Millicent's son's family took to Millicent instantly, and it was nice she got to be with her son prior to his death.  When she mentioned being there for his first and last breaths, I lost it a little bit.

I also really liked Trixie's brother taking a hard line with her on her pill use, and that moment when she accidentally set herself on fire was legit scary.

The Mother of the Year contest was lovely as well from Reggie talking about his two mothers to the surprise ending where Sister Julienne was honored.

Also, good for Joyce for standing up to her sleazebag of a husband.

Yes, I wish they didn't rush finding her son and his death in one episode. I found my only complaint was the constant going back and forth with so many plots. Ms Higgins is talking about her son, a woman is screaming in labor and back and forth, it felt choppy to me this episode vs others. Maybe because one one was more emotional than others. I didn't feel anything bad was going to happen with May so I wasn't as invested.

I didn't know if you could leave something back then, but maybe in the that country you could. I wonder if Harry will make an appearance or at least have Ms Higgins say she is visiting him or going to graduation.

Actually, at least in my part of the country, it is progressing towards universal access.  The large city where i practice had two competing teaching hospitals which each chose a competing record system, so, if a patient went to one, the other had no access.

However, as the record system chosen by one of them (Epic) has shown itself to be most popular; the other hospital system is in the process of switching to it and I can now, as a practitioner, get patient information from their proividers, too.  Once the transition is complete, I'll be able to obtain virtually the entire chart from the competing provider.  Pharmacies have also adopted EMR systems (it's the law in the US, including requiring an accessible portal for patients); so, if you get immunized at a pharmacy, it will show up on your record, too.

I've also been able to obtain records from providers in other states as long as their provider also used Epic.  When someone tells me they don't remember their last mammogram or Pap, i can often find out within minutes.  Really helpful.

Since every provider has to give patients electronic access, it may be that patients who use different providers from different systems may have to download more than one app; but patients, at least, have a means of accessing all their immunization records.

We are switching to epic in a month and Yale Hospital's Epic and Hartford, another hospital will all connect so you don't have to have multiple accounts. My smaller group, Gyn has a different one but she can log into Epic without a problem.

I wonder if grandmother's syphilis was too late to treat. Dr. Turner sure was making a lot of silent faces. I think she said it had been at least a year since her chancre disappeared.

The Trixie and Matthew storyline is now loathsome. Get rid of both of them or do better, writers. I'm not interest in drunk weepy Trixie. The actress wore a noticeable wig in this episode.

Her hair has looked kind of odd lately, stiff and brassy. Is that why?

I didn't realize there was only one more. Was the shorter season planned or cut short for other reasons? I guess they had less time to move them along, but fans had pretty good ideas they didn't agree with and thought this was better, but they also could have not had the downfall, Trixie a money hungry "Lets spend" kind of girl and just had them move somewhere where she could drop in to visit but not so far. The son Jonty is a bit of thorn, if he stayed and she was "motherly" to him, who would mind him and if Dad takes him, which is happening, who will watch him when he's busy at work. A stranger? Poor kid, he loses his mom, second mom didn't really connect, now Dad is taking him off to another country, he'll be resilient but not want to connect much.

  11. Finale already!!! : (

I haven’t cried with this show in a while, but that hug with Miss Higgins and her son broke me. Very emotional and very real story. Love her relationship with Phyllis too and I still hope a little bit, that Sgt Woolf can visit her again. They were sweet.

I didn't understand how Ms Higgin's knew about "Victor" when she thought of him as "John" or how they knew where she was or had a photo of her young. Was it explained and I missed it? I'll suspend reality either way because it was well done despite.

This synopsis didn't explain it either https://www.whattowatch.com/features/call-the-midwife-season-13-ending-explained-a-devastating-death-and-trixies-exit

The Mother's Day award twist was nice and well deserved but Reggie's planter was definitely sweet and would be much loved by his mom.

I'm glad May's story line was tied up in a bow and mercifully Trixie was put off to the US before she fell down the rabbit hole and was aloof or cold with any more patients. They ruined her character and it wasn't needed. Her brother was welcome respite. I'm also happy the blackmailer got his walking papers and was afraid that would go on longer and be a soap opera like side story. Maybe a divorce will be neatly done by next season.

I seem to remember her being just as shallow about engagement rings when Tom proposed, but that was quite a few seasons ago.  I could be misremembering.

There was, of course, the whole freak out about the tiara before the wedding.

I was so shocked Sister Julienne told Matthew about how unimpressed she was with Tom's ring...she's a nun and telling him to buy her a big ring.  Ugh. It was so out of character as many fans pointed out to butt in that way. It wasn't like he was poor. (yet)

I'm glad if we get a break from them for a while.

I saw footage of JG's Simi Valley Q&A session and a few things stood out. One is that he said that he got the part of Willie because he somehow made ML laugh a great deal instead of having going through an audition process and that he had  liked hearing ML laughing. So, no, there was nothing about ML taking up the reins as 'father-figure' for JG after Paul Gilbert's death (which MG said ML had done  for her) but it seems they got along very well.

FWIW, he said he was 'currently' single but whether this means that he'd ever been married or had had a significant others (much less offspring) went completely unaddressed.

BTW, he laid great praise at the late Miss MacGregor for being an 'acting genius'!

Yes, he said they'd be alike now with his spiritual journey and hers. Mike seemed to be fatherly more with the girls , mostly Laura but Richard Bull said Jon was ignored by their mom vs MG. She was more popular etc. He could have used it but I'm sure Katherine and Richard were there too. Obviously he felt little emotion leaving and wanting little to do with anyone which could have been home or work or both but I don't think he didn't love his TV family. If he sent any feelers out it was to Alison and early on some other cast members heard from him, Hard to remember there weren't phones unless attached to a wall or cordless and no email etc.

Although the money was good, I think he knows if he does other panels or events, questions will get more personal. You can control a panel, have questions you vetted from fans but once they know something they wont ask the same things. To be gone for 30 years from events and then be "naked" is hard. The elephant in the room that he didn't keep in touch with MG and sporadically with Alison and others wont get ignored forever. The silence from all the kids he knew there on the set and lack of info does too. I thought it was wonderful the French writer Alison tours with now, got the long interviews with Katherine and Richard and they spoke of him while others just barely mention he was there. If he chooses to write a book and not tour with it too much (you have to do something) he would risk opening old wounds but he can gloss over some and concentrate on what memories he has and if he has any photos, share those. Time will tell, but I don't see it unless he needs the money. This is the sweet spot, fans are still interested but it will slowly ebb. (except for the rabid fans who want to date him, lol )

There is a woman on his Instagram in photos with him, who she is, have no idea. Time will tell with that too, if a very significant other or friend.

Loved how Miss Higgins took care of Reggie when Fred first became ill. Later she helped him with the garden.  She is bossy sometimes, but she really was helpful and kind this episode.  Another character that has grown personality wise.

I was hoping Miss Higgins got to see the "cop" again she liked but he got sick. They were cute together.

Honestly, I thought last season should've been her last.  Marrying Matthew would've given her a good exit storyline.  Logically she wouldn't still be working at the same level in the same district for so many years.  I definitely think it's time for Trixie to be moving on, as much as I like the character.

I don't think it's out of character for Trixie at all.  I just think in previous seasons we saw more of her doing other things so it wasn't so obvious.

I agree, with the hullabaloo of the wedding, it would have been a perfect exit. I have to believe something happened too late and it wasn't planned to have the chaos now. Sad but I just minimize that part of the show and concentrate on the others.

I don't think the modeling industry has changed much in that respect.

As much as Fred dying would've made sense, given how frequently patients with tetanus do (1-2 people out of every 10 who get it, according to the CDC website), I'm so glad he didn't because he's always been one of my favorite characters.  And Cliff Parisi really deserves a meaty storyline; he was extremely good here.  I knew he was going to get ill after that cut, but didn't think of tetanus until the first muscle spasm hit.  Then it was obvious.

I didn't interpret her reactions as being entirely about the appearance of the brace.  She seemed pretty upset that her daughter was clearly uncomfortable and thought it was actual pain.

I vaguely remember them talking to her fiance about the size of her engagement ring. I thought that was tacky, that she would "need" a certain size. She's not a nun or taking vows of poverty but they certainly started making her very shallow.

There's a lot of gossip about the 2 of them outside the show, I don't read the articles but see headlines. I did notice they both are breaking up with spouses/girlfriends and although that's their business, I wonder if something sparked a talk with the producers. I can be completely wrong but they not wanting to renew the contract after such a big hullabaloo about the wedding, seemed strange. I agree with proserpina65 that if they wanted to write them off last season, the wedding and moving would have been fine.

    Spoiler

There's not chemistry (on set) with them to me and even with his son, Trixie doesn't seem motherly at all. No one even asked who is taking care of him in NY? So odd.  I really wish they went the "happily ever after route"

What did I miss?  Is he now in the poor house?

yes, I haven't watched this one but saw UK updates. I don't know if this had to do with whatever off screen happenings with the actors but they made it so they will be gone or one of them for a bit until next season. It was a way to write him off for a bit but I don't know yet if Trixie visits or goes later to US.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt that never ending wedding and preparation last year was done to make everything collapse. I never liked the paring, Trixie having to have the ultra rich guy and talk about money all the time, this season has been awful with them both being clueless, but maybe if they stay on the show, it will get better as time goes on. Only 2 shows left I think so they have time to recoop if matters get better. I hope so. We don't have to listen to talk about the "best couch and best nursery school and best car etc" anymore.

Great actor. Richard Gerre said of his performance with him in "Officer and a Gentleman"  "“I don't think we ever saw him socially. He was the drill sergeant 24 hours a day, and it showed clearly in his performance. That Little House dollhouse actually looked more spacious and comfortable for its inhabitants than the title abode and I must say whoever made it did a remarkably good job! Yeah, too bad ML didn't consider  marketing toys like that.

BTW, The Waltons DID market a dollhouse on a somewhat smaller scale than the family  home  complete with a few but not all members of the 11 person family as dolls (and came in a box that had Kami Cotler [who played the youngest child Elizabeth] pictured playing with it)!

Wow, I never knew that, I was a teen then but don't remember commercials etc.  Yes, some replicas are gorgeous and that guy had many asking if they could pay for their own but I'm sure it takes a lot of time and labor.

On an unrelated LHOTP RL note: a recent ZOOM interview with several cast members including AA get her to claim that JG himself appeared in the Schoolhouse Willie outfit when touring the reconstructed temp schoolhouse so AA got her husband to retrieve her Nellie ringlet wig from their car and THAT is when they did the recreated photos in the schoolhouse and the reconstructed temp Mercantile! Yeah, it seems that JG had either somehow preserved the Schoolhouse Willie outfit down the decades OR had had it reconstructed but I think it may have been the former since the pants appeared to have been somewhat worn.

He did have it on on his instagram and Alison noted he was in "part" right down to the stockings. lol

well they certainly did have their share of criminals in WG. Creeper who stole food. (boy who was town funded to go to med school, never returned) Frank and Jesse James. escaped convicts that hold Laura and Mary hostage, the Older Brothers, Black Jake, Little Lou, Laura (music box), Albert (drugs from package) etc.

So rightfully so to lock the merchantile.

I thought the " a real door" was addressing the wolves howling and "that locks and has a key" was more about keeping out Indians, but they didn't want to say that.

I thought it was more of a PC way of saying that although odd. She did change, at least on the show in how she felt.

On a different topic with so much LHOP memorbilia being sold, some of it a  bit tchotchke, why back in the 70's, early 80's didn't they cash in on nice toys. They had large dolls that didn't look like any of the characters. What a huge profit they would have made with LHOP dollhouses. Adults and children would want them lol Lunchboxes? no, colorforms/paperdolls, "ehh" but a nice dollhouse is an heirloom like brio trains. House comes with family and you can add on barn and horses, wagon etc. I mourn an idea never realized. ;  )  Some fans own homes they did. The video below is fantastic with replicas. The store too.
