If anyone out there hasn't seen that episode yet the scene where they play charades is an excellent example of why this show has stood the test of time and why it's on so many "Best Sitcoms" lists.

"Treachery. Two-faced. Malicious accusery. Pearl Harbor... I got it: On the Street Where You Live!"

Agreed, that is amazing writing, and so well-performed too.

Are we ever told how long Rob and Laura have been married?  I know Mary Tyler Moore was only about 25 when the show first came on the air but of course an actor's actual age doesn't have to mean that's the age they are playing.

In the episode "Draw Me a Pear," which was during season 5, Laura says they've been married for 9 years.

Context: Rob and Laura take an art class and the teacher's attracted to Rob (not knowing at first that they're a married couple). Teacher later phones him but Laura answers, saying "He's my husband. Yeah, yeah, 9 years now."

I noticed Cameron seemed to feel he had to ask permission to wager $1000 on the first Daily Double when he had only $800.  Come on, production, Mayim, make it clear to all contestants when the  situation arises.

    Fixed that for you.

  4. Chandler and Monica got married in Manhattan, did they not? I'm baffled why all 6 friends were checking out of a hotel the next morning. I get why the bride and groom would book a hotel for their wedding night, but we actually see the others checking out as well. (Joey watched porn and the girls got billed for it.) I feel like I'm missing something.

I'm wondering if the writers were subversively trying to bring attention to domestic violence through humor, as was often done on Barney Miller, although I suspect the subliminal message went right by those viewers to whom it was directed, resulting in those viewers just laughing and not achieving any awakening.

The episode's on YouTube, and the big reveal comes at the tail end. Rob and Laura are suitably freaked out by his confession, but it's mystifying why the writers thought that was a "funny" trait for the character to admit to. They were talented enough to find another resolution to the story.

One of our local channels plays 'vintage' tv shows during the day and last week they started showing The Dick Van Dyke Show.  Oh my god I had forgotten how good this show was!  Dated, sure, but if you can put that aside these shows are comedy gold.  I hope they show all 5 seasons!

I'll start by saying the series is one of my all-time favorites, and "sophisticated comedy" is still the phrase that best describes it, for me. But on the subject of "dated" - there's an episode where Rob and Laura play matchmaker for a new neighbor, and the big punchline is that he doesn't want to get serious with a woman because he has a tendency to hit them. Oh man, "cringe" doesn't even begin to cover my reaction to that episode.

Why isn't DiMaggio attached yet? He's on Disenchantment, so it's not like he doesn't have a good relationship with everyone. Or did they just not tell him?

    He tweeted this earlier today.

  8. There's something wrong when the contestant knows more about how the game is played than the host does. "Can I bet $2000?" Yes, you can, sir... and you should also help yourself to Mayim's salary for this episode, since you're doing her job for her.

I liked Emma and am happy she won.

Obviously I can see that Sean Penn is a great actor, but THAT was a bad storyline.

Totally worth it, though, for "You're blurry, but you still look like Ursula. You're Blursula."

  10. The ruling of "Sorry, too much time" seems very different now compared to the Alex era. It feels like only one second goes by before Ken says no. I swear it's a lot quicker. Just me? Or maybe it's the way the show is edited.
