I believe Olajuwon and Jephte from the previous Boston season played college football together.  I wouldn't be surprised if Katina who works in HR had some level of college education as well.

Could be, but Jephte seems heads and tails above Olajuwon in intelligence.  Just my impression.

I don't interpret "Municipal Wastewater Operator" as garbage man. I work for a federal agency that manages lots and lots of infrastructure and the people who run our locks and dams and other projects would have a similar title. He likely has an engineering or technical background of some sort and helps keep a plant running.

I actually took the time to look up the requirements for a position with that title and at least in NY State a HS diploma or GED is the minimum educational requirement for all levels of the position.  As the grade levels go up there are more courses required to be certified, but even the highest level only requires something like an additional 6 courses, and I'm not even sure they're college level courses but specific trades courses.  So it he's not a "garbage man" but it's also not a job where one needs a degree or background in engineering.  I am sure the managers at higher levels would need those degrees, but not someone with a title of "operator".

But seriously, there is no shame in that and like others have said, I'm sure it's a good career with good benefits.  Both Olajuwon and Katina don't strike me as having been college educated but so what?  My husband has a GED and so did my dad.

It gets even more interesting apparently. Alyssa was told that her man would actually have a lion tattoo not an eagle.

    Steve has a lion tattoo.

She told Noi that Steve should have been her match and made Noi cry.

So, when she says eagle, she was told to say that because of the issues it caused.

Also, Steve was told to cover up his lion tattoo as a result of this. This all comes from Steve.

I saw that on the after party and I find it very hard to believe Alyssa's story about the psychic.  That's a very specific thing and most psychics don't get THAT specific.  They may use more general adjectives about eyes and height but tattoos?  I think she liked Steve and caught a glimpse of his tattoo and then made that story up.  Then she stirred the shit by telling Noi about it.  She's figuratively throwing a tantrum because she didn't get what she wanted and when she saw Noi with someone better in her view and happier with her match, she tried to take her down with her.  Her maturity level is an insult to toddlers.

Agreed.  But if Jasmina wanted this to work, she would reassure him rather than criticize him when he does so.

Yes, and did you see the cold way she reacted when he told her about all the loss he's experienced?  If a man told me that the first thing I'd say is, "Oh how horrible for you, my heart goes out to you".  But nooooo, all Jasmina could do was coldly point out that if he dwells on that it could be a problem for their relationship.  She is one cold hearted self-centered bitch, sorry.

This woman drinks an inordinate amount! That’s why Mark, upon hearing they were going to a pina colada-making class immediately said let’s try to take it easy with the drinking. He’s not concerned about 3 glasses of anything—though three is a lot for me and probably for a lot of women. But we’ve seen Lindsey pounding back shocking amounts of alcohol this whole show—and her behavior changes the more she drinks. Honestly, if Mark had the conversation with Lindsey about slowing things down earlier in the day she may have better understood the point he was trying to make that they’re still getting to know each other. But he made the fatal mistake of waiting until evening and after drinks all day and at dinner, when her blood-alcohol content was probably at its highest.

Not to defend Lindsey because she's taking the bait, but this show plies them with alcohol at every turn.  Drinks are handed to them everywhere from the moment they say "I do" to every moment they're in a limo., the hotel room, a meal, even pina coladas at the hotel.  That's no accident and I bet it's all paid for by the show and handed to them.  They know it will make Lindsey say and do things to offend people and that's exactly what they want.

  6. Katina thinks she's the shit but she's naive if she breaks down in tears over Olajawon's smarmy sales pitch.  I thought she was supposed to be street smart but she bit into his schmoozey line of crap hook line and sinker.  She only knows this guy 3 days and already she knows he's had a checkered past and yet she's STILL buying everything he's selling.  He would have sent my red lights blinking like no tomorrow!

Michael and Jasmina are hard to watch. They do not understand each other and cannot communicate. It was very telling that in next week's preview, he says that this is the first time he has seen her smile. That says a lot. He also is putting words in her mouth and is not understanding what she means. When she said she was sorry that he felt that way, and he said that he would accept that as her way of apologizing, I wanted her to scream that she was not apologizing! She was very insistent that she was NOT going to apologize for something she did not believe that she did. If they are having this much trouble communicating now, what happens when they get home and he has to start getting up to go to work at 4? Oh, I didn't see the first part of the show where O and Katina were working out, but why didn't O and Michael work out together?

I think Michael and Jasmina are two sides of the same coin.  Or maybe the same side.  They have similar issues with loss and mistrust and are both engaging in relationship sabotage and gaslighting each other.  She wants to make it his fault so she latched onto what his family said about him going into things with a negative attitude.  But in harping on that SHE becomes the one with a negative attitude!  So they both take turns borrowing trouble that doesn't exist.

Then he wanted to turn the tables on her and make everything her fault so he tells her she cut him off.  I didn't see her cut him off.  Now he's the one looking for problems that don't exist.   At least he was willing to cop to some of what she said about him.  She is never willing to cop to anything and gave him a lame non apology.  Meanwhile is there really anything for either of them to apologize for?  No, but they are both looking to find fault with the other one and are way too touchy about everything.  They are so much alike and a perfect match but one made in HELL.

Katina is getting on my nerves. How could she possibly do a workout with 40 pounds of extensions, six inch long nails, and three inch long eyelashes.

I thought similar about Alyssa.  It's not just that she didn't want to go snorkeling with Chris, it's also that she wouldn't want to get her hair wet and mess up her false eyelashes and eyeliner.  That's the absolute BEST she can look and I'm sure she knows that she would look awful with wet hair with wonky eyelashes.  She was fine with the boarding on the water, because she didn't get wet at all.

The way Mark kept repeating himself during the conversation makes me wonder if he was prompted by production to slow things down, or if he genuinely found it difficult to talk about his feelings, had rehearsed what he wanted to say in his head and didn't want (on camera) to deviate from the script.

You are not the only one to wonder about that.  In my house we all wondered if production put Mark up to saying he wanted to slow things down.  I think this show keeps firming up the contracts to make them have to say what production wants them to say when they tell them to say it.  Like there is a script they're sometimes told to follow.  Lindsey was obviously put on the show for drama and if things are going too good between her and Mark she might not provide it so much.

He banged them separately, at different times. Then picked them up together at the station. Then had to make sure he told the world about it, in front of his new wife. Is he pitching his own post-MAFS reality show? 😂🤣🤮

What grossed me out is that it seemed like Olajuwon was bragging about it in front of his new wife and everyone else.  That was the height of bad taste and low class.  If he had truly changed he would cringe to have people know that stuff.  Unfortunately I don't think Katina will be put off by that, which says something about her too.

Why did our favorite sensible character, Miranda, become such a flibbertigibbet in this iteration?

It's almost like she's playing the same character as in "The Gilded Age".

Why does Carrie keep texting with the absent Samantha as if Kim Cattrall, who refused to return in her iconic role, might actually show up? (She won’t.)

If I didn't know better I'd think the show was trying to tease the audience for a possible appearance of Kim in a 2nd season.

I don’t know. I think because they are clearly intending to remake Miranda, down to reusing identical plot lines, the waving, etc., some comparison is fair. The original meshed better with the lead actress’ strengths. If they don’t want comparisons, they should write to Mayim’s strengths and stop trying to shoehorn her into a character that just doesn’t seem to fit her.

This.....exactly.  I've watched Miranda and she was a natural for the part because she created it.  I think Jim Parsons thought Mayim could pull it off and since he was instrumental in this it was produced, but perhaps those decisions are best made by professional casting people.  It would be a hard role for anyone to pull off.  I get it that they were enthusiastic about recreating a really funny, unique show but they were probably biting off more than they could chew.

Perhaps that comment was made because for the most part, in this show, white men win.  Maybe the OP was glad that for once the tables seemed to be turned.  Last week one of the chefs said something like, “ no more women eliminated.”

I'm happy when no more women are eliminated but not happy to see men go home just because they're men or they're white.  So I agree that the comment mentioned was mean spirited and prejudiced.  A white man has won in 6 out of 14 seasons on this show so a non-white and/or non-male winner would hardly be tables turning "for once".  Considering that most gourmet chefs in the US have been historically male and white in this country, it seems to me that Top Chef has done far more to help non-white and female chefs get recognized and given their due than it has done anything against that.

So after the hot date with Danielle and Cody, she says she was too tired to have sex when they got home? Wha? She acts like an old lady. A passive aggressive old lady.

There's no way she would have been too tired for sex with him if she really wanted it.  That was total BS.  I think he makes her feel like an "old lady".  She talks to him as if he were her son or something.  Then again, he asks for it by acting like an unsure teenager.  What a horrible match!

She could also use a different hair do and eyebrow .

OMG I have been thinking this about Danielle the entire season!  She needs an eyebrow intervention in the worst way.  I understand the strong eyebrow is in style but she has no idea how to shape them!

Couldn't agree more! Both season's early taps were "Oh no! Bears!!! Gotta get out of here!" Nicole, despite attempts by the editors to make us think she was running in terror, was more "Bears! Hmmm, wonder what they're eating? I have sea asparagus here, wonder if that's what they're eating, or maybe they have berries over there? Look, they're fishing at the mouth of that stream. That might be a good spot to put my net." The seals were actually kind of a surprise for me, but I was halfway expecting the bears to start eating her fish. Guess it makes sense, though. The seals have a bigger area to hunt, while the bears find the fish concentrated in a small stream.

Nicole could afford to wonder what the bears were eating because they were far enough away from her camp for her not to feel unsafe.  In fact, in earlier episodes she mentioned that they were no threat as long as they stayed at a safe distance on their side of the cove, which it looks like they did.  They even looked far away and zoomed in in all the camera shots we saw of them.  I actually think it was the other way around and the show was trying to make it look like the bears were more of a threat than they really were.

  18. Starting sex early wasn't just Tres' fault, it's on Vanessa as well. He did not rape her. They made a mutual decision to have sex early on. Vanessa didn't love him at that point because they barely knew each other. So why does she get a pass? It was a bad decision by both of them that ultimately caused problems.

It's not starting sex too early that's the problem, it's that having just married the guy, Vanessa assumed Tres wouldn't be just having his fun like no strings attached, but doing it within a serious relationship.  That isn't too much to assume in what at that time was a legally binding marriage  So I agree with Snarkle that Tres had the responsibility of being up front about not being on board with a serious commitment if he was just having fun with her at that time.  He could have said, "I want to have sex with you but if I do please understand that it's just for fun and not within the context of a true marital commitment."  Of course he'd never have said that because if he did he knew she would probably have said no.

The fact of the matter is that even with a "normal" metabolism, Whitney would be just as heavy if she kept up these habits of hers. Studies have shown that metabolism only accounts for a difference of 200-300 calories (meaning you take two people who eat exactly the same and exercise exactly the same, and one is high-metabolism and one is low metabolism...the difference between them is 200-300 calories burned per day.) Is it slightly unfair that the high metabolism person could afford to eat a donut once a week and maintain the same weight as the low metabolism person without any extra exercise? Yeah, I guess. But life's not fair, and we deal with it. Whitney didn't gain 100+lbs in a year, and then more on top of that in later years, because of a low metabolism; she gained it because she eats more calories than she burns.

Weight loss with PCOS is also nowhere near as hard as it's made out to be. I have lost 70lbs, and that's with all of the times that I fell off the wagon and wanted to eat loads of junk and not exercise. You don't have to starve, you don't have to go crazy and only eat raw, vegan, sugar-free. You don't have to eat perfectly and never make a mistake. You just have to eat less calories than you burn. That's it. There is no magic secret.

Whatever anyone's personal experience may be, no one can speak for how Whitney's body reacts to dieting only their own.  And no two people are the same.  I have read that no two people with PCOS gain or lose the same way.  It may be harder for you to gain weight and easier for you to lose it even with PCOS than for Whitney.  Insulin resistance for anyone is a tough thing to beat and cutting out only 300 calories a day will not even make most normal people lose weight, which is why most diets always cut people down to somewhere around 1500 calories a day.  And it's circular logic to claim that Whitney gained weight not because she has a low metabolism but because she eats more calories than she burns - It's precisely because she has a low metabolism or insulin resistance or both that she doesn't burn calories as efficiently as someone without those issues and gains weight more easily and on less food than a person without that problem.  It is common knowledge that insulin resistance causes a person to put on more weight on less food plus makes them have a much harder time taking it off than if they didn't have the insulin resistance.  That's a double-bind I wouldn't wish on anyone.

I am taking my post on this to the small talk thread.

  21. Yeah, I'm not going to bash Christine for taking advantage of a little help.  She's paid her dues as far as I'm concerned.   I pay someone to clean my house when I'm stretched thin for any number of reasons, including that I just need a break.  And it's not even that easy for me to afford it, either.

  22. For God's sake the women HAS NO JOB.  What the hell does she do all day that she needs a break from?

Not to defend her, but this used to be the rationale men used to devalue "women's work".  I've worked full time all my life and never had kids and yet I would not say this about Christine.  When I'm home (like I was yesterday because of snow) I find I've got plenty to do, and my house is half the size of hers plus I don't have a zillion other family members taking up my time.  Hubbie is out hustling his butt to make $$ round the clock so all the housework, food shopping, cooking, etc. falls on me.  I feel kinda sorry for Christine and the rest of the wives because as far as I can see they don't get any support from Kodouche with these things.
