  1. I assume this is a nitpick rather than general episode chat, but OMFG. I can't stand Taylor. That guy is a world class asshole and I can't believe that Luke doesn't beat the shit out of him for the stupid crap he has pulled. I just started season 7, and the incident where Kirk drives Taylor's car into the diner because Taylor insisted on a traffic camera? How did Luke not lose his shit over that? Any scene with Taylor raises my blood pressure. Annoying fucker.

That's what I think is most bothersome about this show--it tries to present the various interpersonal relationships to reflect actual issues people would have (mother/daughter, boyfriend/girlfriend, neighbors etc) but the stuff that some of these people, like Taylor, get away with is so OTT and unrealistic.

  2. I'm watching the Binessa wedding right now. Someone needs to put a muzzle on Jim Bob. Everything he says or does comes off as creepy.

I thought that Bin's emotional reaction as Jessa was coming down the aisle was sweet. I felt that their vows were sincere. It seems pretty clear to me in the lead up to the ceremony that Jessa was like "I can't wait to get the fuck outta here" I think she is SO glad to get out of the circus.

Oh, and don't get me started on Michelle and her crocodile tears! She is awful, and that helium voice of hers is beyond obnoxious.

  3. I'm sure this has been talked about ad nauseum but the set dressing is laughable--I just watched A Vineyard Valentine...and I'm seriously supposed to believe they ate outside in the dead of winter?  And the vibrant green, fully-leaved trees when they are back in Stars Hollow? Come on show, it's like you're not even trying!

  4. Most state universities require at least one or two humanities courses of some kind, regardless of major. Doesn't have to be English Comp. Derick's writing was fine, if pedestrian. And I say that as someone who writes professionally for a living. (Obviously not here - I break all the rules here! :) )

My school has a humanities requirement separate from the english comp requirement. I think all of the schools I considered had their core curriculum set up that way (english, math, social sciences, natural science and humanities) ETA: Sorry mods! I didn't see your post to take this discussion elsewhere until long after I posted!

Jill looks pretty good for being overdue. If it was me, I sure as hell wouldn't be smiling! But I was a crabby pregnant type LOL

  5. I saw the people magazine photos too. Very clearly pregnant.

Are you talking about the pics posted with Bin and Jessa making the heart shape from their hands over her stomach? Or are there other People photos out there? I need to speculate!

  6. What is Derick's degree in?  The only writing course (or language course of any kind) I had to take in college was technical writing.

It's possible Derick has not seen an English class since high school.

If he has a bachelor's degree, it's likely he had to take at least one english comp class as a general education requirement. I'd be surprised if he didn't. I go to a state university and we have two english comp requirements plus 2-3 writing across the curriculum requirements, one of which has to be in our major. I can't imagine any college graduate getting out with a BA and not having at least one composition class.

A freaking TWO HOUR special? Puh-leeeeze! (also, they need an editor/proofer on those blog posts!)

  7. in the opener for Jews and Chinese food, Paris says that Lorelei would be a great "lead off antidote" for her project on women and loneliness. shouldn't that be "anecdote?". maybe it's just Liza's pronunciation, but i've seen the episode literally thousands of times and she is definitely not saying anecdote.

I watched this episode today! And I heard antidote, too!

  8. Accidental double post, so I will use it to say that I was just now starting on "Parenthood", but I might have to watch a different show in between because it's too weird to see Lorelai be someone else's mother.  She sounds like the same character in her speech patterns and inflections, and her hair is the same, and in the first few minutes of the pilot my brain got all confused, first from seeing Peter Krause jogging like he did on "Six Feet Under", and then from seeing her physically attack her very unRory "new" daughter.  Guess I need to decompress a little.

How funny you mention Parenthood, because that's the next show I'm going to watch! I still have a ways to go with Gilmore Girls yet. I started in the middle of season 4, so I'm going to have to go back and watch the beginning before I move on to Parenthood.

  9. Can I nitpick about the god damn interstitial music on this show? Maybe I find it annoying because I've been watching several episodes a day, but that "la la la la" shit is grating on my nerves.

  10. I binged watched the last two episodes of Season 4 and several episodes of season 5 today (hooray for working at home!). Up until this point (I've seen bits of Seasons 1,2 and 3) I have really disliked Luke because he's such a miserable SOB! But then, as soon as he and Lorelei start dating, I find him to be much more likable. He smiles and seems relaxed...for now. He was actually sort of cute about the whole thing. And I love that when they went on their date, he was like "I'm in" and there was none of that stupid crap where someone says something, it gets misconstrued, and then no one is sure if they are liked by the other one and it's just one big annoying mess. They actually talked about their feelings! It was refreshing.

I hope Logan becomes more likable, because right now he seems like every rich kid douche that ever walked the planet.

ETA: I think I might be slightly obsessed with this show. I only ever saw an episode or two when it originally aired, so I'm happy that Netflix has it on instant play now!
