  1. There really hasn't been much clarification about Derick's dating history. He was raised Conservative but not Fundie. I think he's probably still a virgin but has dabbled with other physical contact.

Hey, BJs don't count so you know he's dabbled with that!

To be honest, I'd be pretty surprised at a guy his age (25? 24?) to still be a virgin.

  2.

Speaking of Almanzo, he was one of my biggest crushes growing up.  Good to see he was just as hot in real life as I had always pictured him, but I have stumbled upon that picture before.  Laura chose well.

My favorite book of the series is These Happy Golden Years, since I am a sucker for romance and find Laura and Almanzo's courtship to be one of the most romantic things I have ever heard/read.  You know a guy has it bad when he travels miles in the snow to bring his sweetheart home for the weekend. *swoon*

Everything you said. THGY makes me weepy because it is just so damn sweet.

The Little House series is my all time favorite and I love to reread them from time to time. They are a nice reminder of what's really important in life (family, the little things) I've been trying to convince my sons to read them, as I think they would enjoy the stories.

  3. OMG, you guys. Titanic is on right now on Oxygen. It will be over at 10:20 BUT IT IS RESTARTING right after. And then, I just saw a commercial--tomorrow night is a a 13 going on 30/He's Just Not That Into You sandwich! 5:35--He's Just Not That Into You, followed by 13 going on 30, followed by HJNTIY and then 13 going on 30 AGAIN. It's like they are reading this thread...

  4. The scene in the Anne Frank house where they were kissing and people started clapping seemed really unrealistic to me -- I can't envision that happening at all. Not the kiss, but the clapping. It's been a while since I read the book -- was that in it? Other than that, I liked it and definitely a tearjerker.

That scene felt really weird in the movie. I think that it worked better in the book--it's been awhile since I read it, but I seem to remember that in the book, other visitors were more aware of her struggle to get up the stairs and that's why they started clapping? Something like that. But in the movie, it seemed like there was maybe one person who was behind them.

I did enjoy the movie though, I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. I agree with those who said this was Ansels' movie. When it was announced that he would play Gus, I was skeptical (especially since he and Shailene play brother and sister in Divergent) but he did a great job as Gus. I thought he was just perfect. I'm not a huge fan of Shailene, but I thought she did a good job as Hazel.

  5. Pearl Harbor.  Seriously.  When we were on vacation a couple of weeks ago, the treadmills in the hotel gym had personal televisions attached to them and I happened to hop on just as Pearl Harbor was starting.  I stayed with it for an hour and a half (normally, I can only stand the treadmill for about an hour), then ran upstairs, showered quickly and found it on tv to watch the rest (it was evening, we were done going out for the day and no one else was watching anything).

The only thing that can explain it is my crush on Ben Affleck (even though I can admit that it's not his best movie) and my interest in US history starting from WWII.  I know movies aren't usually historically accurate, but I'm still interested in them anyway.

I'm going to go crawl under a rock now :)

ME TOO! It helps that Affleck looks so good in this movie.

My list: Legally Blonde. Titanic. Dirty Dancing. Road House. Independence Day. He's Just Not That Into You, 13 Going on 30.

  6.

One book I would recommend to anyone who likes romance is Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.  I read it last year, and I thought it was sweet with just the right amount of sadness/realism.  I'm really getting into YA now, so if anyone has any YA recommendations let me know. :)

I recently read Anna and the French Kiss. I liked it, I thought it was a good, fluffy poolside/beach read. I haven't read Eleanor and Park but I have read Rowell's Fangirl, and liked it.  I've read several Sarah Dessen books (Truth About Forever, Lock and Key, Just Listen...there may have been others, can't remember!) and I enjoy her stories. I think of the Dessen books I've read, the Truth about Forever has been my favorite so far, although I have enjoyed all of them.

I really liked Just One Day and Just One Year by Gayle Forman. Prior to that, I had read If I Stay (movie version comes out in August) and Where She Went and liked both of those as well.

  7. Why am I watching this show? This is what happens when the baseball game you planned on watching gets postponed due to rain...So I watched the proposal...first, they seem like a cute couple. He seems like a decent guy, too. Fingers crossed that they break the mold a little bit and they don't have 4 kids right away. I bet if they don't pile on kids right away, they would enjoy spending time together. Second, schmoopy love songs are my kryptonite, but I begrudgingly admit that this was a little charming.

I watched this episode with my 12 year old son and had to explain to him what the Duggars were all about. It was like he was watching aliens.

  8. I think the issue with Bruce is that it was an emotional affair even if it wasn't sexual. Maggie was willing to take him back when she thought he was just jerking off, but when she heard him tearfully breaking up with her and promising to send her money for her demo she could tell there was more happening there.

Right--When she first caught him, he was apologetic and it wasn't going to happen again...yadda yadda yadda and then she caught him online with her *again*. He may not have been physically cheating in this instance, but the level of intimacy of what he was doing with this woman through the computer is definitely cheating on some level. That's a difficult place to come back from, as a couple. You still feel like your marital bond is violated even if he never touched her.
