I have no idea why people throw those picks in parking lots. It seems like every time I'm in a parking lot, I see at least one of those things. Are they flossing in the car or what? Can't they take it to the garbage can?

I see them so often in parking lots that I've wondered if there is some 'other' use for them, like drug paraphernalia or such that I just don't understand.

  4. From Jayski:

Chase Elliott to miss Las Vegas race

    Quote

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports, will not compete in this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway due to a leg injury.

Elliott, the 2020 Cup Series champion, suffered the injury to his left leg today while snowboarding in Colorado. He is scheduled to undergo surgery this evening.

Josh Berry, 32, will fill in for Elliott in Sunday’s event at Las Vegas. Driving for Hendrick Motorsports affiliate JR Motorsports, he is a five-time race winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native has made two previous starts at the Cup level.

“Chase’s health is our primary concern,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “He’s spoken with several members of our team and is understandably disappointed to miss time in the car. Of course, he has our full support, and we’ll provide any resources he needs. We hope to share another update later this weekend.”

I'd rather they just declare a tie after, say, 12 innings. This is just gimmickry for the sake of gimmickry.

There's no tying in baseball! There's no tying in baseball!

Out of curiosity, because I don't really follow other sports anymore... what is the ceiling on OT in other sports?  For example, in the NBA, don't they just keep going into successive overtimes?

In the NHL, they play a 5-minute overtime period, first to score wins. If no one scores, they go to a shootout to decide the winner. The NFL plays a 10-minute overtime period, where each team (usually) gets at least one possession to try to score. If no one scores, it ends in a tie. The NBA will play successive 5-minute overtime periods until someone wins.

  7. This should probably go somewhere else, but the Mets have a Super Bowl ad this year, and have dropped a copy on YouTube. Funny stuff!

Andy Richter looked different to me. I kept trying to reconcile his looks with my memories of him, and I kept ending up in the uncanny valley.

I haven't seen him in ages, and I didn't recognize him. My first thought was they accidently called some random 'Andy Richter' thinking he was the actor, and they were offering the deal to the wrong guy.

  9. Is this the end for Yellowstone?

‘Yellowstone’ Shocker: Kevin Costner Cowboy Drama Series Plots End As Taylor Sheridan Eyes Franchise Extension With Matthew McConaughey

    Quote

Deadline understands that Taylor Sheridan, co-creator and showrunner, Paramount Global and Paramount Network are moving to end their signature show in its current form. But they are plotting a potential franchise extension to continue the Dutton saga, a new show with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star. It is unclear which of the Yellowstone cast will move over to the McConaughey-led series, but it is expected to include several of the big stars.

    <snip>

The crux of the issue with the original Yellowstone series involves star Kevin Costner and disagreements over shooting schedules. Sources tell Deadline that Costner, who had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. But for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, the actor, who just won best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, only wanted to spend a week shooting.

Costner is directing and starring in his multi-part western epic Horizon, which he co-wrote with Jon Baird that landed at Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line.

We are told Paramount Network has declined Costner’s most recent proposal and instead has made the decision to move on to the other show, sources said.  What all parties are now wrangling is a Yellowstone franchise extension that Sheridan will write with McConaughey as the star. The True Detective star is currently in negotiations.

  10. They didn't do the Clash on dirt last year, they did it on pavement at the LA Coliseum just like tonight. Last year, they had 23 cars in the final, this year they had 27. Last year they only had 5 cautions in the entire event, I think it was the full Moon...

It's too bad they remain forever unable to generate any interest in the Pro Bowl.  The NFL might be more popular in general, but I think fans look forward to the MLB, NBA, and NHL All-Star games a lot more.

It might help if the players showed any interest in the game. I understand why they don't care, but it doesn't help build fan interest.

At least Herm Edwards isn't playing for the Eagles this weekend, one less thing to worry about!

They also want me to print three copies of my resume and bring it in case it’s asked for. They can’t print it themselves? What year is it? I went to an interview yesterday and my interviewers had already printed my resume.

When I was interviewing in person, I always brought several additional copies of my resume. It's polite and professional. What if someone is added to the interview and doesn't have a copy of your resume already? It's really not a big deal.
