  1. Huh. I totally didn't notice I called Jonathan Roberts Jonathan Edwards. Yeah, I knew he was Anna's husband and all. (Jonathan Edwards is this fire-and-brimstone preacher from several hundred years ago who's an ancestor of mine; why I would bring him into it, I have NO idea.)

  2. Admittedly it was a few years ago, but have they forgotten Steve Guttenberg and Jonathan Edwards' Mango?

ETA: It's true, the Mango was campy and the planned dance presumably isn't. Still....

  3. If they wanted to bring Alexa back, they could hold the show Monday and do a GMA-via-satellite elimination or something.

About the scores on the duet dance for Nick and Tamar, the judges did a LOT of discussing before putting their scores in, which is rare. I wonder if they decided to score Nick on the basis of the rehearsal (which they theoretically don't see but everyone knows they do) so he wouldn't suffer. He apparently changed his dancing on the fly to work with what she did, which wasn't what was planned (forget where I saw that, but I believe it).

  4. According to Paywizard:

Dancing With the Stars Contestants Salaries

    Weeks 3 & 4: $10,000 per week ($20,000 total)

    Weeks 5 & 6: $20,000 per week ($40,000 total)

    Weeks 7 & 8: $30,000 per week ($60,000 total)

    Weeks 9 & 10: $50,000 per week ($100,000 total)

If a celebrity makes it to the final episode, his or her earnings can go up as high as $345,000.

The Pros salaries are negotiated. During the early years they each earned $1K week. It was raised to $5K per week at some point. It may have changed since these numbers were published. I have heard, but don't remember when or where, that the Pros who have been with the show longer are paid more and are given quite a few extra perks, depending on differing specifics.

Just to be clear, as I understand it, the above is in addition to the $125,000 (or whatever it currently is) for doing the show in the first place.

  5. By the way, "derrick" is "a kind of crane with a movable pivoted arm for moving or lifting heavy weights, especially on a ship." Is that like a forklift? Because Derek has just demonstrated he's not a forklift dancer at heart. I've been wondering for a while if Derrick is a misspelling or a commentary....

  6. Just wondering....are all the All Access camera feeds recorded so all the time zones can see the same feed as the eastern time zone when the show is live?

Yes. I watch the show (I'm Eastern time), then at 11 I watch All Access when it airs opposite the Pacific time airing. I try (sometimes I miss it) to switch to the Judges Table feed during dances; you can see how the judges are responding (sometimes big smiles, Bruno often stands up to see better, etc.), and when the dance moves between camera and table you get a different view of the dancing, which is cool. I occasionally visit the other feeds as well.

  7. We don't know that Val hasn't worked on faces with Tamar. Just that if he has, it hasn't helped.

ETA: Anna was saying on All Access that you can tell someone something over and over, but until they do it, you're stuck. (Not how she put it.) I also think sometimes pros can explain in ways their contestant understands, but for whatever reason some can't do it, some can do it some of the time, etc.

Reminds me of long ago when a riding instructor (I was a raw beginner) kept telling me to get my heels down. I had NO idea he meant straighten my legs.

  8. The Season 19 problem, IIRC, was that Derek was voted with someone not in LA but he couldn't leave town because he was also doing a big Macy's Stars of Dance choreo. So they had to adjust.

I'm not aware of an analogous situation this season, though.

  9. The scores from the dances just danced and the switch-up dances will be combined, but the elimination shouldn't be till the following week.

I always like switch-up week. You get real changes. I've often wondered if Witney got a second shot because she and Drew Carey really meshed, for example.
