  1. I'm actually inclined to believe that thing about Stark social climbing. Because it is extremely odd how the heir of a Lord Paramount was betrothed to the second in line daughter of another as well as having his second born fostering with a different Lord Paramount. A Lord Paramount that happened to be childless. Also Lyanna, Lord Rickard's only daughter was set to be married by the Lord of the Stormlands. That's 3 different Starks heavily involved with 3 other Lord Paramounts which I think is unprecedented as far as I can tell for Lord Paramounts. Like in the past, the Starks mostly keep to themselves and not even other Lord Paramounts involve themselves like the Starks did in the last generation.
  2. I really doubt it though. Weirwood paste is described in the same way that the Shade of the Evening is described. Interestingly enough weirwoods are red and white and the plant that the shade of the evening comes from is blue and black.
  3. GRRM deconstructs tropes way, way more than he subverts them. For instance, Cersei is a deconstruction of the evil queen from Snow White.
  4. Without being completely sure, I think dragons "old and young, true and false, bright and dark" might refer to different people and the actual dragons rather than just two people. Young = Daenerys' dragons Old= Aemon True = Jon False = Aegon Bright = Daenerys Dark = Bloodraven
  5. The intimacy of their relationship wasn't the problem. It was how needy and horny he got with her in full view of people and kept trying to bang her which she kept putting a stop to. It was so UnStannis-like. Speaking of which, it's kinda sad that Stannis thinks Melisandre was trying to get him to make peace with Renly when it was really that she was trying to see what he looks like so she could assassinate him.
  6. http://www.texaslightsmith.com/assets/images/finishes/Burnished_Copper.jpg This is what I was thinking when I said strawberry blond. Burnished copper isn't actually red
  7. Melisandre also has potions that inspire lust. Now while that's not used on Show Stannis, it's ambiguous with the Stannis in the book but I really hope that's not the case.
  8. I get the idea that Seylse kind of encourages that. Like the impression I get at least in the books is that Seylse is half in love with Melisandre. Who knows, maybe she's hoping for Melisandre or Stannis to invite her to a threessome
  9. Well Stannis doesn't know that sex with Melisandre creates a shadowbaby. Melisandre even says that her bed sees little use since Stannis left the Wall. Now for all we know they could be having a cuddle party because even the one true king needs some affection but it's more likely that they have sex with each other.
  10. Please just let her be living. Can't Stannis have a good thing and be banging a hot red-head without her also needing to be dead. TRIVIA: Although actually Melisandre doesn't have red hair. She has strawberry-blonde hair.
  11. I really do assume that Roose doesn't really care. The only thing he's interested in is amusing himself.
  12. GRRM's mentioned that Melisandre is his most misunderstood character. A shame that the show follows that misunderstanding. I like Book Melisandre as a character.
  13. The Red Wedding didn't work because all it did was inflame the North for a little while. The Northerners are aching to kill Lannisters and Frey. That's why it's a horrible idea for Daenerys to murder her wedding guests and no one will treat with her in good faith from then on.
  14. In (not for shimpy) Lemore also has dark hair unlike Tyene Sand and we don't know her eye color. Also Tyene just recently visited her mother who is living in the Reach. I doubt Lemore uses Littlefinger's jet pack.
  15. I will say that Qarl the Maid seems a pretty nice guy for an iron born so at least GRRM is averting "all girls like bad boys" with Asha. Also Tris Botley is like the Westerosi version of "Nice Guy".
  16. Jon Connington was only Hand of the King for a very short time. But yes, he knows Ashara. From the Knight of the Laughing Tree story:
  17. @shimpy Correct. Tyrion does a lot of staring at her body but not her eyes so we don't know what color they are.
  18. @nksarmi I mean they portrayed Jaime as an outright rapist and as a kinslayer on the show. Like seriously, Book Tywin would hamstring Jaime if he killed his own cousin. @Alaynr Stone What about the part where he kills Shae out of self-defense rather than initiating her murder because he felt humiliated by her.
  19. Here are the quotes I mentioned. This is what GRRM said about him as of ASOS:" Even the villains... Certainly I have my favourites. Tyrion Lannister is my favourite. He is the grayest of the gray. In every conventional sense, he is on the wrong side but you have to agree with some of the things he is doing while loathing others" Other stuff he's said: Interviewer: Do you have a favorite character? George RR Martin: I’ve got to admit I kind of like Tyrion Lannister. He’s the villain of course, but hey, there’s nothing like a good villain. @ambi You may be right about Tyrion betraying Daenerys but to me, it's more likely he'll use her to get wha he wants. "Soon comes the pale mare, and after her the others. Kraken and crow, lion and griffin, the sun’s son and the mummer’s dragon. Trust none of them."
