Brandon and Kelly sure are made for each other, given they like to kiss people who are in relationships/while they are in relationships themselves.  I mean, Brandon has one foot out the door, but still, not cool.

Truly, how many times can they cheat on their partners so casually?! Is there some "soulmate exemption" w/r/t kissing people that I haven't been informed of?

  2. Y'all, this occurred to me during the pod but I forgot and had to double back to say: I hope Kim and Joe's discussion of Johnny being 100% for sure gone wasn't a jinx - what if Hunter is disqualified bc of his hand for the next challenge? They need an even number of men and women, Johnny was next in line after the winners of the last challenge...(I don't read spoilers so maybe this is a naive paranoid thought, and it's certainly strange, chronologically impossible magical thinking to think events can be jinxed from the future, but STILL WHAT IF)

Manufactured, calculated and annoying AF, is what it is.

Regarding the Jordan/Cara Rivals Conspiracy - do y'all think Cara is on it, or Jordan is just playing her? I'd like to believe she's in on it, because she's acting SO ANNOYING, but I can see Jordan egging her on without letting her in on why - she's so easily rattled that she doesn't even have to know there's a conspiracy afoot to be part of it!

I felt bad for Kailah and Jenna being stuck with an injured Hunter and a terrible competitor in Tony as partners.

Agree - I thought they were going to pull Hunter - it seems irresponsible to medically clear him given how he described his doctor's visit (assuming that it wasn't pure braggadocio to say that his hand will be forever ruined if he keeps competing). But even if they leave it to him and his own irrational decision making, it's not cool to tie Kailah's (or any partner's) chances to someone who can't use that arm at all!

Jordan and CM are playing it up so much that it seems to me that they're setting themselves up to be Rivals (teammates) if they ever have another of those.  The whole thing between them is silly and feels manufactured.

I'm all in on this conspiracy theory after listening to the pod this am. I'm even wondering if CT's cryptic comment about there being something else behind their bickering was a reference to THIS, not any underlying romantic motivation!!! It seems like a very Jordan thing to do, all "I'm thinking 5 moves ahead and setting myself up with the strongest girl for the next Rivals round...".

$1 million is the total payout for all finalists that complete the last mission, right? As opposed to the winners getting seven figures apiece? I'm betting most of the kids think it's the former. If it makes them feel better, I reckon the grand prize would exceed even Johnny's half-ill-gotten gains.

I was thinking the same this morning - curse or no, Johnny's lost (the opportunity for) way more money since that season than he gained by snaking Sarah. Even if that's kind of magical thinking math, it's soothes me.

  5. Strongly believe that So You Think You Can Prance and It's Always Sunny in Foal-adelphia absolutely fit the clue and were cruelly denied!!!

[ETA: ok, SYTYCD is in LA not NYC, so fine, but Foal-adelphia totally works and I stand by it!]

While I understand the need to cut the podcast down to once a week, I am a little sad that I will have to wait a week for the next episode, which in my opinion has the most ridiculous St. Donna plot - Donna tries to rescue a fawn, her dumb ass gets trapped, fireman whose life she endangers falls instantly in love with her, and she receives an award (I think).

I'm re-watching it right now and I truly think Donna deserved to die for being such an EPIC idiot.

He didn't know it was offensive.  That was not his intent, surely.  Sometimes white people trip on some things we just don't know.

While it may be true that he didn't know that, it's pretty basic racism 101 shit and I am of the mind that it is the responsibility of white people (self included) to educate themselves on those kinds of biases early and often. (Unless Rachel said off camera that she considers herself "from the hood" and that it's a point of pride and even THEN I wouldn't go there...).

Intent really doesn't matter when the consequences of racism are so real and so high stakes, in my opinion.

I listened to the Bros podcast.  Nothing too insightful, but Benji is convinced that Twincer was at Toby's cabin.  Marco made a pretty good argument against the existence of Twincer, in that the show runners wouldn't want to reveal her then have to spend 45 minutes explaining her backstory.  It's a decent argument, but they did exactly that with Charlotte in 6.10, and I'm not sure they've learned from their past mistakes.

Yeah, I think there's no way they DON'T want to do that, actually! To show how clever they are in all these little misdirects along the way. I really hope Twincer is also Bethany Young (one of the variations on the Twincer theory), because THAT would be awesome, and give a reason to go and re-watch the whole series with those reveals in mind. I've been down the rabbit hole with fan theory vids a few too many times, and though they are a little....wacky, I really love the practice of going back and getting a second read on things throughout the series - particularly things that happened prior to the Charlotte reveal aka when the show broke my goddamn queer heart. If the AD reveal only pertains to things that happen post-time jump, I'll be sorely, sorely disappointed.

I think this was brought up on the TWOP forums every time this episode aired: what about the woman with AIDS who spoke at West Bev? Kelly learned when she was 16 that there's a "disease that kills lovers."

Yes! That's what I kept thinking of, too. This show has done several preachy storylines about AIDS and STIs, especially that one. Kelly should not be so misinformed at the age of 21 or whatever - and moreover, her absolute SHOCK that she should be tested because of all the UNPROTECTED SEX SHE HAS HAD IN HER WHOLE LIFE, along with her certainty that she has AIDS because she got a little blood on her precious, unbroken skin, just really hammered home that this is NOT about being especially safety conscious, it's just about being ignorant and grossed out by HIV+ people. If she really was so worried, she should have been tested once in her g-d life! Just in the course of this show so far, we know she's had sex with at least...what, 8 dudes? (I say that not to say it's bad, just to point out that she should be getting regularly tested. Fuck away, KT! Just have SOME semblance of responsibility about it!)

When I was in high school in 1996, I was an HIV peer counselor in my school and in literally EVERY classroom I went into, there was no one that ignorant of how HIV is transmitted....

but I swear, if it turns out that Spencer has multiple personalities (one of whom is A or AD) or if she has a twin, I am going to cut a bitch.

Hmmm, I think you better get to sharpening your knife and have a bitch at the ready!

(I know no spoilers, FYI, just pretty convinced on the Twincer front!)

If he lost all his money investing in Hanna, he probably wasn't all that successful in the first place.

Amen, and even if he was, he was NEVER GOING TO STAY THAT WAY, Hanna or not, if he doesn't have the SUPER BASIC common sense to not sink his entire wealth into a high risk investment. You don't need to be a money genius to know you should keep some money off the table when gambling with a start up!

Hannah has really become pathetic over the years. She used to be pretty tough and snarky as a teenager, but now she's just a scared damsel all of the time who needs to be saved by Caleb, and whines all the time.

What they've done to Hanna's characterization since the time jump is just straight up cruel!!

  13. I'm delighted by the A+++ batshit craziness of Lolo - she is the apex of Challenge personality disorders and I can't believe she wasn't homegrown in an MTV lab, but rather is this world famous, record breaking, and (heretofore) widely respected athlete! I am clapping my hands with glee over Louise's apparent personal mission of trolling the hell out of her. So good.

Y E S!   Lets all kick Pepper out and put you in.  You sound like you know people !

Why, thaaaank you! The best part is, like Dr. Pepper, I am a sociologist of sexualities, so I literally already have her exact credentials, to boot!

  15. I have a theory that if you gave Nate to Danielle and Cody to Sheila, all would be well. I'm a professional sociologist, give me Dr. Pepper's job, MATFS!

(Kidding, sort of, but I do think Danielle would be attracted to Nate's cocky aggression, and Sheila would be better served by Cody's gentleness.)

  16. I am RIVETED by this TAT/Garth beef! PLEASE CONTINUE TO SAY MORE, regardless of veracity! I'm on the edge of my 90s gossip ear here.

Also - I'm glad it came up on the podcast, because the second Alexis claimed to be an expert on all things 90210 but mispronounced Andrea/Grandrea, I was both mortally offended and righteously gratified in my general feeling of Alexis dislike. C'MON NOW

  17. Despite its rampant sexism, we have yet to see evidence in the show that Gilead treats its people differently based on race. This is the place to discuss race relations, as well as other social justice issues which may arise (such as cultural, religious, or sexual diversity). Comparisons to the book are welcome, but please remember to spoiler-tag book info.

My thanks to @Slovenly Muse for creating the thread!

I couldn't figure out exactly where the doctor was on the scale from 1 to super creepy. Like was he genuinely trying to help Offred when he offered to impregnate her? Or was he just trying to get laid? I didn't see him touching her leg so I must have been distracted. That definitely would have made it seem more obvious to me while I was watching. To be honest, I was a little wary of him from the beginning. Encouraging her to talk to him seemed too much like he was an Eye just trying to get information that could be used against her, so I didn't blame Offred at all for keeping her mouth shut.

Agreed, and I seem to recall feeling the same way in the book (thought it's been awhile) - I think that is what it makes it so terrifying! Is he a spy or a member of the resistance or just a sympathetic ear? Is he a rapist or has he learned that this is actually a life saving service he can provide - or both? Should she trust him or not, should she push down all her revulsion and horror and try to talk to him or take him off on his offer? The creepy ambiguity is part of what makes the whole scene so powerful, to me anyway.

  19. I want to know who gave Aja a makeup makeover of epic proportions this week, because her Snatch makeup and runway look were both like, 10000x improvement over the previous weeks. I was looking for bonus footage of a micro make up challenge or something because, MY GOD. The eyebrows were a tell - it must be Valentina or Sasha who helped because of those signature piece-y brows (which Alexis ALSO had, so I predict a cut scene where Valentina be-eyebrowed everybody this week).

I WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS DAMMIT
