The writers are *really* pushing it with the men who take one look at Kate and instantly fall in lust/love.
Yes,,,,,that's not really believable.

I think this will be a UO, but I thought William was a jerk. You show up unexpectedly to your son's work, he tells you he needs to work through lunch, and you emotionally blackmail him into taking the afternoon off? I haven't seen any indication that Randall needed to learn how to treasure moments with his family so count me unimpressed
I'm going to agree with you but my reaction to it is a bit different. My feeling was, that is not the personality we know William to have. The William we know wouldn't show up unannounced and then ignore all Randall's requests that he needed to get back to work. That William we saw tonight was very different than the usual William.

Blah...whatever...I'm not watching to be taught lessons and be manipulated. Think about it, they can manipulate the hell out of anything they show via flashbacks, etc
Very true. Lets hope they dont go too far with it.

For some reason, the whole crap fest with Brooke and her husband seem staged. I cant really explain it but it didnt seem real. I know reality shows are not real and a lot of it is scripted but this part with Brooke seemed forced. All of a sudden she calls her "hotty" husband (her descrption) and he's not busy (go figure) and then he refuses follow the plan. It was like her own desperate way to have him included in the show, no matter how stupid he looked.
Also, Kyle and Brooke look much older than the ages they claim to be. The lighting on this show obviously isnt as good as others they have been on.
I love Carson and Boy George. Vince Neil seems a bit off,, from the usual Vince Neil.

The firefighter and his marriage was too much of a reach. There's no need to go off on so many tangents. I get it - What happened with Randall ended up being life-changing for several people. Wonderful. But I'm really only interested in the main family, and I really love seeing present day far more than the past.
Yes, if they start going in too many directions,,,i lose interest, quickly !
Tonights show just didn't do it for me, I found myself doing other things and missed some of it.

Sorry, but 1980 wasn't the dark ages.
Thank you. At times I think i'm watching a show from the 50's not the 80's ! (the flashbacks)

Carnie seems to be such a try hard. Not sorry to see her go. I actually tuned in for Carson, whom I adore. He just makes me smile.
You're right. Carnie is one of those people who look like they are working hard but never really get anything done. And, she is annoying.

I just can't with the actress who plays the wife. She ruins an already terrible show. Not that another actress would have made this show amazing but she is awful and has been in everything I have ever seen her in.
And I'm sorry but Kevin Nealon has never been funny once in his entire life.
He ruins the whole show. Very poor actor.

For some reason I still think Patsy did it. Not on purpose but I think she lost control and something went terribly wrong. I dont think she ever went to bed that night and was up trying to stage the whole scene. Who knows what John knew or when he knew it. He seemed like just a pawn in her life.

I agree, I have never been able to see how her story could be about anything but weight, at least until she got under the 250 range.* At her size absolutely everything would be a struggle, and require extra thought or work or planning. I hope this show makes it a story about how she lost enough weight to live like everyone else - not how she learned to accept a life of never knowing if a chair would hold her or if she could get through a door.
*My basis for that being, the first question for chairs I always see on the ask-a-question section of online furniture stores is, "weight limit?" It is almost never more than 250 pounds.
Very well said.
I think the show has fudged a few of the hurdles Kate/Chrissy has to go thru on a daily basis. There is no way she would fit in that coach seat on the airplane. Yes, I know she bought 2 seats. But, she isnt just big from side to side, she is very big from front to back. No tray table for her.

But I do think the writers understand this. They have her saying "I've GOT to lose the weight". Because it really is massively out of control. It's just enabling IMO to say to someone like that "nah, you don't need to lose weight: beautiful at every size!" (Again, I'd sing a different tune if she were even a rung down in the "morbidly obese" category, which I didn't realize was so common.)
Thank you for all the great information. I'm glad you made things clear. It was bothering me that viewers think she is morbidly obese and using that term. She is way past that, as your research showed, being morbidly obese can be pretty common. Kate's weight is not common.
When the viewers want her story to be more than about her weight, it cant be. Her weight is a daily struggle to find a chair she wont break, a booth she can fit in (none), a seat belt in her car that will fit, if she can even get behind the wheel. A watch that will fit her wrist, can she get thru turnstiles at events, clothes that fit and so on. She has to plan every move with her weight in mind.
If they went with an actress that was just obese, we could have a lot more story lines. Believable ones.

Very interesting. That would make things very tricky !
