[S21: Before The Episode]

Brittany Cherry said she is not returning to DWTS. After her stint on the tour, I thought she'd return, even just in the troupe. Sucks.

 

I wonder if they're reducing the troupe after expanding it for last season. If that's the case, then a male trouper would be out the door as well.

 From fans on Twitter? They don't work on the show, so how would they know anything? I'm harping on about this because I don't like seeing someone's character slandered based on made-up fiction. When a rumor gets repeated over and over again, people see it as fact.

 

I saw her shout-out to Alan Salazar too - I guess he didn't do enough work to receive a nod, whereas Tessandra Chavez obviously did do more for the Houghs.   

 

I've noticed this on another forum too - a little "reverse ageism" against Witney. Some people just can't seem to believe that she does most of her choro, simply because she's only 21.  If she were 30 like Sharna, I don't think people would question her.

It's just a shame that people have to tear others down, instead of being happy for the nods the show did get - especially since the pros seem to be close friends.

 

I did some research and Emmy rules state that chorographers with "significant contribution" are to be credited, and since Witney was listed solo, then no else did anything significant. Mandy said on Afterbuzz (last fall, I think) that she is credited as  "performance producer" and that she helps in one way or the other with all pros.

I think some people were upset with Witney's nomination because there are rumors that she had a ton of help. And a chunk of that help came From Mark, Sharna and Mandy Moore. Non of the 3 had their own nomination.

All of Witney's dances were great though. They deserve some regonition.

Stuff like this bothers me. Where did these rumors come from? Without proof, it's slander, and no pro should have their character assassinated.  

 

Just because she's only 21 doesn't mean she shouldn't be taken seriously as a chorographer.

Never say never.  In 20 seasons men have won 9 and women have won 11 - not a bad showing for the male winners. .  

 

In recent years I feel like it's become lopsided though - gone are the days when we had four straight male celebs win. Maybe the next year will be different now that all the big male pros have won.

Why does there have to be a narrative?  Why do they have to go through so much just to get a certain pro a win?  But since it seems like that's the way it goes now, I can see them going for Sharna (she's getting a lot of face time from her pairing with Noah and she is a fringe Fam member) or maybe Mark who apparently hasn't won in a while.  Derek is never winning again.  He's got five and they figure that's enough.  I can see them trying to get Val a back to back win.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but I have a feeling they want a female pro to win, probably Emma or Sharna. The women don't seem to get enough credit as it is, so it would be nice to spread the wealth a bit. That's why I was pleased to see Alfonso and Witney do so well together. I think DWTS is slightly sexist TBH - it's like they have this attitude of "we'll throw the women a bone once in a while, but we can't let them equal the male pros".   

 

I don't think Mark, Derek or Tony will ever win again.

[S21: Before The Episode]

This is my first post and I wasn't sure where to put this topic.

 

I started watching this show in S17 but I feel like something is "off" this season. I've been reading some of the comments here and several others have echoed similar sentiments. I guess I still miss people like Alfonso, Tommy, Sadie, Nene, Bill, Leah, etc; most of this current cast comes across as dull and charmless by comparison. I feel over this season and want to look forward to September.

 

Here is my wish list of suggestions/improvements for season 21: 

 

1. Give Tony and Artem partners around their own age. Suzanne felt like Betsey Redux. Don't pigeonhole the pros into "boxes" in terms of partners.
2. Give Mark and Val partners over 50 (hasn't happened yet for both). Again, Willow was too similar to Sadie. Give them old legends like Raquel Welch and Roseanne Barr.
3. Give Sasha, Henry, and Lindsay second seasons as pros. 17 seasons in troupe between the three of them - that's a long time. If Keo/Artem/Allison got second chances, then so should them.    
4. Derek should take a season off or retire altogether. I'm tired of all the discussions and analysis surrounding him.    
5. NO FOURTH JUDGE! Three is enough (I'm assuming Len is done with fall cycles, if not the spring too). Carrie Ann should be fired and replaced with Anna, Karina or Louis, but I think we're stuck with her forever.
6. The Packages have become too long and elaborately produced and edited. This isn't an SNL Digital Short. Stop with the outdoor "skits" so we can have more time for actual dancing. This really started when Rob Wade replaced Conrad Green  last fall.
7. With each passing season it feels like the troupe is in more and more of the routines. Don't know if anyone else has noticed this.  
8. With Kym returning to Australia to judge, it's really the end of an era for female pros. It's going to be very strange without Cheryl, Karina, and Kym.
9. GET BIGGER STARS! This season we had Patti, Suzanne, and...crickets. Whereas S18 had Billy Dee, Candace, Danica, Drew, Nene; S17 had both Bill's, Valerie, Amber, Leah, Elizabeth, arguably Snooki.

 

I'm sorry this post is so long. What does everyone think? What's your Wish List for 21?
