So one Day 1 you find a CLUE to where an idol is then have to work for it. Now, with only six days left? You just find the idol right away.

    I don't get it.

New Era Survivor!  It's part of Survivor staff's resume to be lazy with those at this point!

    Freaking.  Survivor.  Resume.

May the first person who came up with that phrase not have won a million dollars.

It's a damn TV show, not a job at a beach somewhere!

Has the Survivor opening credits song and music ever won anything?  I think it’s so cool and so forever recognizable.

It probably should have.  To be fair, based on what TAR does, the deserve(d) all of the awards, but their credits are/were just a little more than okay

Next week's episode is called Mamma Bear.  I think that will probably be the turning point for either Kenzie or Maria, and it is possible Maria will get blindsided out of the vote if Q goes home (assuming he doesn't tonight but I'm really leaning towards Venus).

Yeah that makes sense.  I was just saying that Q going home would not be a surprise to him at all, but it sure would be (or might be) a surprise to Maria if her crew were the people definitively responsible.

With that comes yours truly seeing how an 8-0-0 vote would turn realistic.  First things first: I think it would be a Survivor first if Kenzie the beneficiary of that.

It would be easier for that to play out if both Ben & Charlie survive over Maria & Liz.  It just depends on how the final boots play out.  7-1-0 is just plain boring

Since Tiffany said that Charlie was open to blindsiding Maria, I wonder if Kenzies big move might be stealing her alliance of Charlie/Ben/Liz, blindsiding Q, and then running the end game.

That should be more than enough to crown her.  Though I think it would be more of a blindside for Maria than for Q at this point

  6. It's either a combination of both, or neither.  JMO, but trying to get someone you hate out of the game is fine.  You just need to going all in if that's the plan (i.e. using an idol).  Furthermore, if one is actually a great player, they're going to have a plan B, so taking out a hated player doesn't work, HII or no

I didn't either. Now the Timberwolves are up 2-0.

Hopefully, that will put an end to the notion some people thought the Lakers could of beaten just about anybody in the West except for Denver. There's probably a very good chance that the Lakers would of gotten their asses kicked by the Timberwolves despite LeBron's best efforts.

Well, I called this out when Denver barely beat the Lakers. They trailed by double digits in every game. I noted that the TWolves would be a greater test, and here we are. Denver looks like hot garbage.

It's all about matchups.  I'm not too surprised since the expectations were there for these outcomes to occur.  I do agree that LA would have lost to the TWolves, but that didn't come up since it was more likely that LA would beat OKC and avoid one of Minnesota or Denver in a possible second round had the Lakers been the 8th seed.

Nice stuff from Minnesota, as they'll always have this West Semis in their history on their way toward getting completely pummeled by the East winner

  8. At the end of the day, to be fair: I still look at the positives when it comes to the new era.  I'm more of a fan of what was very good in the past for the most part.  As mentioned, I respect Jeff Probst.  The jokes have come & gone, and hit or missed, but he's been the face of the program since Day One.

It is a shame that things change based on what he prefers before anyone else, but for me, if it were totally bad, I wouldn't watch.  Hats off to him for doubling down and not making excuses for what may be unpopular.

JP ain't going nowhere.  If so, that's outside of the foreseeable future.  Hopefully Survivor doesn't get to a point where a change makes the show look like TPTB putting something together with bare-minimum effort.  I image they'll adapt which is what contestants have to do or they're out of the game.  Maybe they will; maybe they will not.  Hopefully the latter isn't the case since there's never been a (network) TV show that lived on forever taking the cheap & easy road

  9. I'll get to the Probst interview from US Magazine in a minute.  I do have to say it's a combination of laughable, sorta unnecessary, and a non-shocker that 90-minute Survivor is hear to stay.  I think there is plenty of time to fit in a quality episode within a single hour.  Like most things at the very least, it doesn't make (too much) sense to go backwards.  Furthermore, no sense in putting a new show slated to fail when to fill it with 30 extra minutes to go along with 30 extra minutes of The Amazing Race (or whatever airs after Survivor when TAR isn't on the schedule).

What's hilarious is new era survivor is about 66.67% compared to Old Era Survivor in terms of taping length.  Meanwhile old era survivor is about 66.67% compared to New Era Survivor in terms of TV time.

I disagree with Jeff (to a point).  Part of it is due to casting, and remaining, well, isn't.

The old era had less benefit from previous seasons compared to the new era.  Going over 5 weeks is more taxing than South of 4 weeks.  You played against a ton of decent players.  While it is just a game, those people cared about the top prize and really just winning.  More often than not.

Jeff is right in that you cannot easily hide with 6 people, but there weren't always teams of 10 in the old era.  In fact, several seasons had even fewer than a half dozen to start.  Plus, hiding wasn't automatic.  If people can make a case over several people as to why they should stick around, the invisible player loses that invisibility.

Another defense for Probst is that you have to earn stuff that used to be given to people at the beginning or close to it.  Given all the changes within the new era, that can be difficult.  Plus, it's not cool when it feels like it's done on the fly; it's at a point where someone can't prepare for it.

Finally, there weren't an infinite number of HII opportunities in the past.  Not that it matters on the show today

'Maya Rudolph, Jake Gyllenhaal to Host Final Season 49 Episodes'

How unusual (or not) is it to have so many former cast members host in a season?

It might be a result of the strike, all the stars are now back to work at the same time on their projects. Lorne probably had to call in a few favors to find a few uncommitted stars to host.

I think it's a combination of that & preference.  I don't recall a strike in the latter part of the 90s; Lorne might've preferred to have well-known people host around that time.

To be specific 35% of the hosts in Season 22 were previous cast members; five consecutive shows featured former repertory players.  Probably not a common occurrence, and until proven otherwise, probably something that will not happen again.

On the other hand, the 50th annual season would be the best opportunity for a repeat of it.  Nonetheless, it's nice to see former players return to host.  Especially when it gets to the point where one loses track upon their fifth time hosting

I agree, but I think it’s because they don’t do anything. No hunting or fishing, no building a better shelter, etc. No exploring for more resources. Just sitting and talking.

i think they could just not eat and do the show on a Zoom call from their apartments.

Pretty accurate points, Tango.  I basically agree here.  If we're wrong, that's on production for not showing us more.  Plus, that's on them being lazy since they've increased the show by 50% which now seems permanent.  It's pretty sad as they have over 2 decades of material to adapt to avoid being voted out.  Sure the show changes, but the basics and what not are available for people to study & prepare for prior to their shot at the title.

The zoom thing actually makes sense in all fairness.  I think they'd still have to meet in one setting for a TC.

From that comes a visual that'll be stuck with me this evening.  Since Survivor loves Survivor, they'd have TC in an empty Applebee's restaurant (store settings are still there for visual effect).  Amid pre-voting chat comes (at least) two survivors like Maria & Charlie having to hold Liz back from Jeff Probst as he eats an Applebee's dinner in his spot during TC

Oops, I meant Tevin. He also left with a pocket idol, right? If not, never mind. All these idols, can't keep 'em straight.

    No, Hunter did.

I think 30 Helens was wondering if Tevin left with an idol in addition to Hunter & Tiffany.  Or not; it isn't easy to keep everyone in track.  Tevin was booted big time in the aftermath of HII talk.  Q wanted Tiff gone & so did Maria, but there was a fear about the plan getting skunked with her idol.  If only they knew that she was planning to use it on one of her opponents at final tribal council if she'd made it that far.

That last sentence was a joke, BTW

Personally, I’m not a big fan of any of Survivor’s  episode-long restaurant chain product placement ads - but relatively speaking, I’d take Outback over Applebees any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

100%.  No burgers or dip for me.  The safe bet for me is to go to Applebees for a drink while placing a takeout order from Outback

  14. Too bad I didn't get to make my joke on Darvin Ham's future & how he would not make it to May.  Well, I didn't get the chance since I didn't bother to post it before Game 4 took place

Sure, but both Liz and Tiff talked about going to Applebee's every week. Liz for a burger, Tiff for artichoke dip and cocktails. I think both of them were exaggerating, possibly urged to do so by whoever is in charge of marketing.  It just seemed like one big overblown commercial, trying to convince us that contestants on Survivor miss Applebee's food more than anything else in the outside world.

As mentioned, Applebee's is okay for me.  Not on my Top Ten for options for eating & drinking.  That's regardless of quality and business level.  People like Liz & Tiffany can eat wherever they want and whenever they want, but IMO, I would think they can do better.  Or there are better options on a weekly basis.

Applebee's is great when it comes to advertising.  There's the part of making money & what I'd disagree with.  That would be someone saying "no thanks".  Unless you have options, I wouldn't pass on Applebee's, so Survivor and other big business are smart to do business with them.  Just not a fan of making an episode out of it.  I guess 90 minute-episodes counted here

Wow, I would imagine that Applebee's would generally be better than most of the sorts of national restaurant chains that don't have dedicated servers and the ability to serve alcohol. I think that it's in a class of restaurants like Chili's, TGIF, Outback Steakhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Robin and Ruby Tuesday. From my memory, I'd rank it at the bottom of those types, but above pretty much most national fast food chains like the ones you've listed that only have counter service.

Applebee's is fine.  While I haven't been to one in quite awhile, the one or two times I went for the full experience was pretty good.  No issues for me.  I can't say the same thing about TGIF; BWW can be hit or miss (rarely the latter), but sometimes things aren't great.  I just concluded it as a busy period and nothing personal.  And it wasn't since the people at the Buffalo Wild Wings I've gone to hustle.  No laziness there.  For me, definitely better than Applebee's.

In terms of quality, of course one would rank it over a fast food place, but not necessarily preference.

Here's a hint:.if you're going to go on Survivor, then teach yourself how make fire you dummy. And speaking of, kudos to what's his name for practicing arm and grip strength for.being on the show! Finally someone with a brain!

This (the lack of not being able to make fire) blows my mind.  And Liz had it in here to say someone wrecked her game.  What game.  While the final 4 fire-making thing isn't unpopular, you sorta need to be able to handle that, or you better win the last IC.

  17. In an attempt to take it one step further than JudyObscure as it relates to the disappointment toward Ben, sometimes I'd root for an unpopular outcome.  Or not, but be okay with the following: Q makes a move to boot Ben.  While being okay with losing, he decides to go with an attempt to do whatever it took to stay in the game.  At least until Ben was no longer in the game.  That way of addressing Q's rights or decision to choose people other than Liz would be fine for me.

It doesn't change how great it would be for him to be out, but at least you doing something that shows care in the game of Survivor.  Can't change past actions, but just have to move forward from here

I mean, no big fan of Applebee's -- don't think I've been to one in a decade or more -- but rich people can have all sorts of culinary tastes and be bound by nostalgia, force of habit, etc. From my quick googling, it looks like Liz lives in the Orlando, FL area, so I would imagine that there are "better" options than Applebee's.

IMO, there are better options in Western Pennsylvania than Applebee's.  Including Arby's, one or 2 McDonalds, Subway, and even one or 2 Little Caesars (the KMART ones)

  19. For several options on news related to the release of the 2024-2025 CBS Primetime TV schedule, I'd go a GOOGLE search for them.  Especially given the fact that The Wrap actually wrote something to the tune of Survivor being back with an "All-Star Cast" for Season 47 which, in reality, is more than the opposite.

I’m sorry, folks, this is all my fault. For the last several years, I’ve been recording all of my shows, including Surviver, and watching them on time delay so I can FF over commercials.

That would make this week's episode about 27 seconds long bc it's mostly an Applebee's commercial.

I probably would have replied with a gif full of a standing ovation if I had more time.  Since that isn't happening, I might have to frame your response and display it in the Hall of Fame instead.

And Jodithgrace, you have nothing to be sorry for.  I pretty much do the same.  Though I never expected a point where it might be better to fast forward from one commercial break to the next, but here we are
