Yes, and there was also a subplot of Ross scheming to get Rachel to move in with him, then changing his mind? Or something? Anyway, he was sabotaging and then un-sabotaging Monica and Chandler for his own gain, which threw an additional wrench in the works.

    The "silliness"

Michelle McNamara's posthumous I'll Be Gone in the Dark about the Golden State Killer is now available for pre-order with a February 28th release date.  I'm really glad Patton decided to have her researcher and her friend finish the book, she deserved to have it finished even if she didn't live to see it through.

I think she knew who he was.

That's so fascinating! Do you know if she reveals the identity in the book?

Lol yet when Rachel clearly wasn’t ready to move out and reneged as she needed more time, Monica eventually threw her out the same day.

I think it was definitely strange that there was such a tight deadline for Rachel to move out. Why did she have to leave the day Chandler moved in? Why was Monica pushing her out so quickly? I get that it's a sitcom and it thrives on conflict, but the logical thing seems to be if Rachel had been able to stay for a while, until she found her own place, then she could also have seen that Monica & Chandler were successfully living together (she told Monica that the reason she wasn't moving out was that she didn't believe M&C were really going to go through with living together).

I think once Monica and Chandler got married the series took a nose dive. Monica and Chandler  constantly trying to have a kid storyline got old fast.

One thing that always irks me is how Monica basically kicks Rachel out of the apartment with no kind of real notice so she can move Chandler in. Monica wasn't even concerned about where Rachel would find a place to live.

I'm always so torn when Monica tells Rachel that Chandler would be moving in; I understand that it is Monica's apartment (illegally subletting from her Grandmother) but Rachel had been living there for 6 years. Monica shouldn't have unilaterally decided Rachel would obviously be moving out if Chandler was moving in.

And in further Bad Podcast Behavior, MFM is on a tour of Australia and New Zealand.  They were doing the third of three shows in Melbourne, when a guy, who clearly didn't read the name of the show he bought tickets for started yelling (not heckling, which they've handled) abuse at Georgia when she was telling her story because she was "making fun of murder."  It apparently upset her so much that she started crying and couldn't finish.

Georgia can annoy me, but seriously, fuck that guy.

Oh yeah, she also has a lot of anxiety about performing in front of a live audience.  Seriously, REALLY fuck that guy.

They address it in the episode released just today. I definitely support Georgia and think that guy was totally out of line for going to a murder/comedy show and being offended by the murder/comedy discussion.

I think I've figured out why Georgia bugs me: she talks out of one side of her mouth about strong females, female empowerment, etc, and out the other about how Vince has to remind her to eat because she's such a delicate flower who can't feed herself without a man.

  6. Paula is unwatchable. I don't think I've seen her in anything before and I cannot fathom how she got the lead role in this show.

Beyond that, I don't think I pay close enough attention when watching; I didn't even recognize the lady with the bad wig who was conspiring to save her son from going to jail...

Okay, back in my day (first time I've ever used that phrase...I am now officially old), a 19-year-old announcing a pregnancy was viewed as being an accident and/or something kinda sad because it meant the mom wouldn't have the chance to really enjoy being young and free to go to school, travel, meet lots of diverse people, try different jobs and move around before dealing with the realities of houses and babies and limits.

It still is, IMO.  Nothing against the innocent baby, of course...but children having children, especially since the Duggar girls are so immature, is still just...sad. Getting knocked up is not a vocation.

Seriously. I became unexpectedly pregnant at the age of 25; I had a degree and a long-term partner and I was still extremely nervous to tell my parents because I was so "young".

Actually, Derelict got a full ride at OSU, but point taken for being out of state. That costs a fortune, even at a state school.

Let's call the 12 grand about equal in today's money. I have no clue what his tuition would have been when he attended, and I forgot he was out of state.

Still, 12 grand for a program that awards no credits or degrees is, IMO, throwing money down the drain. But then again, I don't have Duggar money, so my perspective is colored by that.

Do you know how/why he got a full ride? Was it needs-based, or based on his grades? I'm Canadian and didn't apply for scholarships when I went to University so I'm not at all familiar with the full rides...

  9. Danny has really come into his own in this series; I struggled to finish Iron Fist, but I'm really enjoying him in Defenders. His interactions with the other "heroes", as well as all of the jokes at his expense really lighten the tone and make for a less sulky Danny.

Jessica Jones is still my favourite, and while I enjoy Luke Cage, I do agree that his acting could be better.

The Atheist I know have no tolerance for homophobia, racism, or misogyny.  They are intolerant of those they think are intolerant.

I personally relate to this. I am an atheist and I don't discuss it with many people because honestly, it is a lack of faith or belief in any sort of religion so in its essence, there shouldn't be much to talk about.

I begin to have a problem with someone who uses religion to support their homophobia/racism/misogyny. Without hiding behind their religion, I don't think someone could really defend their views on women, the LGBTQ+ community, etc.

I have a hard time with religion as a whole because I see it as a source for most of the major conflicts, from the beginning of civilization.

So, My Favorite Murder ran into some trouble after being accused of being a bit casually racist.

Let me say up top that I am saying this from my perspective as a white, cis, gay man, who is well aware that he's near the top of the food chain of those who aren't white and cishet.  But while I think a lot of the article's points are perfectly legitimate and agree with plenty of them, I think some are a bit out of context.

I was at that show at the Beacon Theater that the article mentions, and while Karen definitely mischaracterized Spanish Harlem, I think it was born more of sensationalized media reports that want to talk up a minority neighborhood as a crime-ridden slum, since a white person dying under bizarre circumstances in that place, instead of a perfectly nice ethnic neighborhood makes for better headlines.  Spanish Harlem is one of the few pockets of Manhattan (really, the entire city) that has actively fought gentrification, and more power to them for that.  But I don't think she did it with any real malice, just another example of them not thinking too deeply about some of the stuff they talk about.  And honestly, the focus on white murder victims (specifically, white female murder victims) is just a small part of the bigger problem with a lot of True Crime.

And while her flippant comment to the Stay Sexy, Don't Be Racist Twitter was, at best, not helpful, and at worst, outright offensive, I'm not sure the Twitter itself is constructive.  Lord knows I have problems with their (particularly Georgia's) lack of insight into certain issues, but I do honestly think they're receptive to learning new perspectives, and Georgia seems to have improved her understanding of things as the show has gone on.  There was a mention of a clearly-guilty man appealing a verdict that was based in part on some shenanigans by the prosecutors where one of them commented that the guy was right to do so recently, and I felt like cheering.

Honestly, it's some of the murderinos that actually worry me.  I'm a member of the Facebook group, but it's so active I don't participate all that often, and some of the comments I do read have made me think about leaving it more than once.  And they posted audio recently from a live show where, once the murder (a horrible human being, to be sure) was sentenced to death, there was cheering.  That's flat-out gross.

I left the Facebook group - it was just too much for me (in many ways).

I've started listening to Gone at 21. The structure is very confusing...there are episodes called "The Investigation" and episodes called "Evidentiary Notes" and they each have their own numbering system. Has anyone listened to this? Do you recommend that I continue? I'm on Investigation Episode 2.

  12. Devon Sawa was the draw for me; he was my childhood crush and I follow him on Twitter, where he was promoting this show.

I'd never seen Paula Patton in anything before and agree with all of you above - she is horrible!

I am really having trouble following the story and am also confused about things such as: how do Ruby & child who comes back to life know each other in this alternate timeline? What is the significance of Jesse's death?

It's a pretty terrible show but I'm going to keep watching (for some reason).

I think he's become totally unhinged. Who goes on Twitter rants when you've got a brand new baby to take care of? Not to mention a wife recovering from major surgery and an active toddler. I don't know what's going on in their household, but he's clearly not in a happy place. I wonder if he's starting to resent Jill because she's the reason they couldn't become real missionaries.

I'm so curious why this is something he feels he needs to talk about NOW. I'll be honest and say I'd never heard of Jazz before this, so I'm not sure how long her show has been on, but why is he complaining now and not when her show first started? (NOT to say I support him saying anything about her AT ALL).

Derick is sure throwing a lot of stones from that glass house of his...Ass.

I'm the total opposite of everyone here. I think that gay men and women raised in a society so aggressively homophobic (for which all straight people are accountable, yes) that they don't realize they're gay until they're in their twenties and married aren't cheating in the traditional sense if they step out on their spouse. Sure, it sucks. More for the straight person than for the gay person? Not really. Doesn't mean the straight person's feelings don't matter just that the understanding needs to go both ways. However. Ross was a homophobic guy. Oh, sure, he was also a go-along-to-get-along guy as well, but he was shown over the course of literally every season to be homophobic. (He was particularly bad about this when it came to Ben.) So I really have no problem with Carol and Susan not being nice to him all the time.

My issue is NOT that Carol realized she was gay while married to Ross. My issue is with how Carol and Susan handled the unexpected pregnancy and how they did not include Ross in monumental decisions such as the baby's last name.

There was definitely terrible gay panic on the show with all the male characters, and Ross did not handle Ben's exploration of toys outside standard gender norms well, but I saw his support as more than just "go along to get along". As an example, he stood up for Carol at her wedding to Susan.

I cannot for the life of me understand all the Murderinos who are getting MFM tattoos.  I have four tattoos, but most are abstract, with only my most recent one standing officially for something, and even that's just the symbol of my profession.  I'm planning on getting a Star Trek-themed tattoo for my 40th birthday next year, but I've also been a Trekkie for more than 25 years.  MFM is only about a year and a half old.

    Their following is definitely something...

Unconcluded is a great podcast. It covers the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse in Orlando.

Thanks for the suggestion! Checking it out now.

Edit: I started the first episode and this was definitely on a Dateline-type show before.

I totally agree! I'm not sure if any of the guys would have dated her, really. I like Paget Brewster, but man did I hate Kathy! I hated how she was written, how she was acted, and dear gawd, I hated that haircut!

I actually liked Chandler with Janice for awhile (before he gave her the shelf paper). But of course, Monica was Chandler's lobster!

Mona for Ross. Not Rachel! If Rachel had met Joshua at a different time in her life (and his), I think they could have made a good couple.

For Phoebe, I liked David better than Mike. But can understand how she went with Mike, she knew him a whole lot better than she knew David. David was cool because he was around so little, he didn't have time to make mistakes or be a drag.

I'm not including the major final pairings (Ross/Rachel, Chandler/Monica) to keep it more interesting:

For Chandler, Janice is my favourite ...my least favourite would be Rachel's boss Joanna (the handcuff lady)

For Ross, Mona would probably be my favourite and Charlie and Emily are tied for least-favourite. Charlie was soooo boring, and Emily didn't appeal to me right from the beginning (with the exception of the "there's a deer just outside eating fruit from the orchard!")

For Rachel, again she didn't date that many  guys but I guess Gavin was ok?...my least favourites are Danny (the Yeti) and Paolo.

For Monica, Richard is my favourite with Pete coming in a close second (until the whole UFC debacle). My least favourite would be the high school student (ICK).

For Phoebe, I like both Mike and David, although I agree that David didn't really stay around long enough to do anything wrong. My least favourite would be the creepy psychologist.

I don't like the connetion between season 7 and season 8. Everything goes on so fast. Monica just gets married, but the next moment, Rachel is pregnant.  I feel a little hasty.

As Monica states, Rachel always steals her thunder!

I thought it might be fun to see how everyone else feels on the topic of the friends' worst boyfriends/girlfriends.

I'll start with Joey's: The fruit basket lady. On a superficial level, she was just NOT who Joey would be interested in. Sending Joey all those fruit baskets was also just weird.

I don't think there was really anything wrong with Tag. He was only 23 and just wasn't quite at the same level for the serious relationship that Rachel was interested in. If she'd dated him five years later, there probably wouldn't have been a problem.

Mona, however, had the bad judgment to date someone who had so much baggage that he clearly did not have any time for her. The scene where Rachel's father came in while she was there and yelled at Ross about getting Rachel pregnant? That was Mona's out and she should have taken it. She should have run like the wind. Instead, she kept dating Ross, where he kept forgetting to meet her on their dates, gave her a key to his apartment and promptly changed the locks, and then the capper: moved his pregnant ex-wife in with him and didn't tell her. So that was what was wrong with Mona.

HA in that episode where they're all listing each others' terrible dating history and Ross says "What's wrong with Mona?!?!".
