The sight of Whitney sitting on the edge of the bed in the beach house, wearing his baseball cap backwards, cradling his guitar and talking about throwing a party with "no fat chicks" was like watching a Twilight Zone episode about a fourteen-year-old trapped in a cosmic time warp. The amazing thing is that he's in charge of this show; does he have no idea how ridiculous he looks? How deep does the self-delusion run?

A "hyperactive multi-tasker"? Most of the time he's doing absolutely nothing and looks like he's having a hard time staying awake.

I feel bad for JD's wife, Elizabeth (???). This does not seem like her 'crowd' at all.
Elizabeth is keeping a very low profile. We only saw her a couple of times in the first season: she accompanied JD to the party at Whitney's in the first episode and there were the two parties she and JD hosted, the Sunday dinner at their house and the Columbia Day bash at the restaurant. This season, we're still only getting brief glimpses of her in the background. Maybe she's just shy and doesn't want to be in the spotlight. Maybe she's a lady of the old school who finds the whole reality show idea tacky and vulgar. It's clear that this isn't her "crowd" and she's just going along with it because JD loves it.
I think another reason we don't see her much is that she's not nearly as enchanted with T-Rav as her husband is. She doesn't seem to go anywhere Thomas is unless she can't avoid it (JD must have really sweet-talked her into being the replacement godmother in that stupid christening). She's probably spent way too many evenings listening politely to T-Rav's pompous drunken ramblings and as the mother of a young family, she's probably not as quick to shrug off his drug conviction as the rest of his "hip" entourage. I'm sure she considers him a bad influence on her husband.

I wonder if it's pissing T-Rav off that the opening credits have been changed this season and he has to share his intro with Kathryn. It's now "Whitney", "Shep" "Kathryn-and-Thomas", "Cameran", etc.

I agree. I'm sure that Whitney intended this to be "The Whitney Show" with the others as supporting players, showcasing his sparkling personality and many talents and jumpstarting his show-biz career. Now, he's the producer of a successful TV show (which is no small accomplishment), but because of Thomas and Katherine hogging the spotlight, it's probably not as much fun as he thought it would be.
Whitney really isn't very likeable, but I feel like at one point he had some potential. I, too, blame Patricia. She's entertaining as hell, but the worst possible kind of mother figure.She's kept him a perpetual teenager out of pure selfishness, to provide her with attention and companionship. Horrible.

But seriously how can JD who seems so normal and cool be such good friends with him.
I like JD a lot, he and Shep are the two guys on this show that I'd actually like to have as friends, but I think his friendship with T-Rav is a little pathetic. Have you ever noticed that JD always seems more happy and excited to see Thomas ("T-Rav-A-Nation!!!", "T-Rav is in the house, y'all!!!") than Thomas does to see him?
Thomas and JD have know each other for many years, but I think that for most of that time, Thomas probably didn't consider JD a close friend, just an acquaintance and occasional drinking buddy. I get the same vibe from JD that I do from Craig: a solid upper-middle-class background, in no way under-privileged, but without the old Southern lineage or inherited wealth that would place him in the top drawer. He seems quite successful, but he's probably had to work hard for everything he has and that's not something that a snob like Thomas would respect.
Then T-Rav crashed and burned and went to prison. When he got out, a large section of upper-crust Charleston gave him the cold shoulder and suddenly he was alone. JD was there to take the place of the old friends Thomas had lost. And for JD, it was like being the nerd who finally gets invited to eat lunch with the cool kids in the cafeteria. And being on the show as T-Rav's best friend (and godfather at that ridiculous "second christening") makes it official.

He's developing that icky, alcholic WC Fields kind of nose. In the dinner party scene of this latest episode, he also had that lushy, red-splotches thing going on in the center of his face. So far, they've done a decent job of editing how bad he really looks, but in more candid shots, he's starting to look super rough.
Once the Bravo producers get pissed off at him and decide to give him a bad edit, we'll see a whole lot of the broken veins and red blotches.

I don't think he's worn out his welcome with the FRC just yet; they'll probably keep him around for a few more years. As long as the show keeps garnering respectable ratings and the leg-humpers keep turning out to hear him speak at political events, they'll keep him out on the road making appearances. Once the show is cancelled and the crowds start to thin out, they'll drop him like a hot potato.

"Patricia had martinis made by Ian Fleming? I'd roll my eyes if I didn't think that was fucking awesome."
Patricia was once married to Ian Fleming's nephew and I think she meant that HE was the one who made her the martinis, not his famous uncle. I think she and Whitney both enjoy dropping Ian Fleming's name (Whitney was bragging about his stepfather being Ian's nephew last season). Since Fleming died in 1964, it's likely that they may never have even met him.

Speaking of age, did anybody notice that the other guys in the band are young enough to be his kids?

S02.E03: Raising the Roof
in Southern Charm
A question for the posters who live in South Carolina: did the commercial we saw actually air on TV during the campaign? Is it possible that it was just something outrageous that Whitney cooked up for Southern Charm and that Thomas gleefully went along with because he knew it would enrage Kathryn?
